💯 I got a degree in journalism and proudly use it every day in my career but I’ve never done gonzo journalism like this, it’s truly incredible.
Two of my coworkers are sisters who escaped from Honduras. They were raised by a father who abused and raped them, witnessed multiple murders a day, and had family members who refused to answer their cries for help or food. I'm so glad they were able to come here and have a safer, happier life.

Being Honduran and having to escape that from a young age kills me. I’ve been here for 15 years and everytime I think about Honduras all I recall is seeing my teachers dead body in front of us. Hearing the gun shots. While we cried. No mercy on the children. I was 6. The killers didn’t care. I pray for our country but I know it will never get better.

My granddaughter was shot, point blank three years ago, in her back by a young male whose apartment she was helping to paint. He was given but 3 years in jail, but I'll venture a guess that he didn't even
serve that. He stuck the pistol in her 18 yr.-old back and pulled the trigger as a prank. He "didn't know there was a bullet in it" Sure, right🙄. Despicable and heartbreaking

I was adopted at three months old in 1982 by the best American couple ever, but from what I know about my birth parents is that my father was Costa Rican and my mother was Honduran. They had an affair in Honduras and she got pregnant with me, but because she wasn't married, her own father would disown her if he found out, so she fled to Costa Rica to have me and put me up for adoption.

I live in Honduras and the abc news is not telling the whole truth about what really happens here and what really happened to miss Honduras, well not only women are assassinated here there's no discrimination when it comes to killings there are teens being killed everyday and no body does anything to stop it, in my town a lot of women have been killed because they get involved with drug dealers that would be the mayor reason women get killed in the city I live, I don't know about other parts of Honduras, what happened to miss Honduras well that's very sad, but her and her sister were hanging out with the wrong people he's sister's boyfriens was a well known drug dealer in Santa Barbara where she was from! I'd like to add that the government is corrupted the government institutions are corrupted and this is a poor country there's not much work opportunities here those factors make everything worse, they said crimes against women don't get prosecuted they say it in a way like women are target here and it is not true, crimes against anyone don't get prosecuted, I would need dozen of pages to explain what is really happening here, hope people reading this can understand my point my grammar is not the best!

Yes, there are many things that can be done to make things better, target inequality, see violence as a priority, first we have to understand what triggers all this violence in order to implement programs to reduce what causes the high rate of murder not only to women but also to men, the violence of man to man is very high, out 11 murders only one is a women, I'm glad that there's people from out side that worries about our situation THANK YOU!

@Dave Valens I have been to Honduras many times and you have nothing to be ashamed of. I know many good men there who work hard and have good morals. The crime there is extraordinary and it has mostly male victims, especially young men and many innocent young men who are not involved in any crime.
Myself as a woman, who is blonde and clearly not hispanic, have been a target for violent crime many times in Honduras. Shootings, abduction attempts, hold up attempts, it is common and during the day in populated areas. I'm lucky that none have been successful, you have to fight for your life in some areas.
But please know that there are good men in Honduras who have been very kind to me, even as a stranger, and you are clearly another good man from a country that has unfortunate turmoil.

No positive comment because Honduran culture and general humans like drama so they will always tell you the sad and violent part. I visited Honduras 3 years ago and I love that country you should visit it and you’ll realize that not all the country is dangerous. of course if you go to a marginal neighborhood at 10pm you’ll see drug dealers and stuff but if you visit Roatan bay for example you will love it or La Ceiba city is a wonderful city

I'm honduran I'm 13 I came here when I was 7 and i remember that in those 7 years I spend there I saw about 20 dead bodies and I remember getting use to it.i remember me and my mom would always be one of the first to get there and see what happen . I remember hearing gun shots all the time .if u don't believe me Search CHAMELECON HONDURAS and it would tell u is in San Pedro sula and that is one of the most dangerous parts of Honduras
