I had one from baby (managed to jump through the holes in a light diffusor) to adult. It was fine with other tank mates until it reached adult. Easily a foot long. It decided that noone else was welcome in the tank anymore. Made it his mission to destroy or attempt to destroy decorations in the tank and my bichir became a target soon after. Had to get rid of him.
These fish hate surface agitation (its actually the reason they jump so often, so get an internal filter) and need floating plants or other surface cover
Revolver Reptiles That’s very true BUT I think it has to die with diet when they’re young. Mine looked odd to me (young, in this video) but looks “normal” now due to eating like Jabba the Hutt 😅
The one I purchased had the beefiest head of the bunch, he was also the best eater and most aggressive. I think what you saying is most likely correct.
