the fact that frank emphasized how touchy and personal this topic is to him, but then gave the interviewer the time to finish his thoughts and let the conversation come to a natural end instead of changing the subject speaks volumes on just how genuine this guy is.
I was in the crowd in 2011 and it was amazing to see it come full circle after the way they were booed and bottled at their first Reading/Leeds appearances just a few years prior. With their (awesome) return to the stage and huge popularity now it's easy to forget that liking them was a surefire way to get yourself bullied and labeled emo back in the day, it wasn't cool in the way it is now. Mainstream media described them as a cult, music was pretty tribal when it came to genres, it was a very different landscape before TBP was released and even then it took a little while for them to become more accepted. So happy for them and their journey - hot emo summer here we go!

This band meant *everything* to me growing up. It’s interesting because almost immediately after their split I “renounced” being emo completely. I felt it made sense for allot of reasons, mainly the fact that I was growing up and I am black so it was difficult outside of the normal emo bullying. I always still followed Franks career but couldn’t really explain to myself why. So mcr had bad experiences at some festivals in the past.
