Swelling and Bruising after Cosmetic Filler Application is Part of the Normal Healing Process

  • Bruising and swelling are indeed a normal part of the healing process, and can occur after having treatment with injectables. An important thing to remember regarding injectables is that it is technically still considered an invasive procedure, as there is a needle involved and work is being done through and under the skin. During the process of administering an injectable, the doctor could accidentally hit a blood vessel or capillary, which could lead to symptoms of bruising similar to that incurred from surgery.
Swelling, on the other hand, can simply be a result of the trauma dealt onto the area during the procedure. It can also be a result of the filler itself. Fillers that belong to the hyaluronic acid family are hydrophilic, which means that they attract water, and as a result, they will expand and cause swelling in the area after the procedure.
The success application of fillers also has a lot to do with the technique, style, and artistry of the attending doctor. Doctors who approach the procedure more methodically and with more finesse are more likely to achieve better results than those doctors who will come in, see you briefly, do a quick injection and then leave.

Thx Dr. Prasad. Do you usually treat hollow eyes with both PRP & under eye filler, or does it just depend on how hollow the patients eyes are? Lastly, is there a big cost difference btw under eye filler & PRP? Thank you for your time. Stay safe!

Thanks for this! I just had my tear troughs done, however they do look dark after? I have been told that is bruising? It was a bit of a shock as I expected to see an improvement and when I got home it looked like the tear trough had worsened and that I had 2 black eyes (not upper lids) Is that common?

Love your videos! I had bruising that has lasted for over a month on the marionette lines on side of my mouth. Than they gave me a free treatment to breakup the bruises and that has caused skin discoloration. I did not have a Doctor do it, but and injector that was in the top 3%. It was not worth it for me. :( I was so disappointed.

Hi Dr Prasad, I have two small bruises under the skin caused by polylactone (collagen stimulating product) injections mixing with bleeding when the needle went in. The superficial bruising cleared but the small ones underneath stay, about 3-4mm deep. It’s been two months now. Do you think any laser can break up the bruises underneath skin? Thanks.

Hello, i have got tear trough fillers done 2 weeks ago but it still hasn’t healed. Especially on one eye it’s swollen and the there one lumpy bit and i could see white lines and bruising. Is this normal, how long does the actual healing process actually take. Many thanks
