What kind of mask do you have to wear it?
I said "mask" in the video, but you should be wearing a respirator. amzn.to/3gMZtR7
Ok thank you! Just ordered it :)
How long until it dries?
24 hours
Coming from ETOE videos 3M mask with filters: 3M 5925 P2, 3M 6055 (higher quality/tolerances) or 3M 5911 with 3M 6051.
These filters require additional filter holder: 3M 0501. I'm using half mask: 3M 6200 (but I do wear eye protection too).
I use 2k on refurbished metal working machines. This clear coat makes the colors pop and eases clean up because dirt doesn’t stick to it. Good review. Thanks for sharing this.
I have been using the 2K Max Clear Coat for a while and by far amazing result.
thanks, bought some and huffed it like an abbo down under my brain feels good
Lol. Next time wear the respirator I linked in the video's description.
I was not happy with another clear coat and bought this. It is amazing. Really good stuff. Thank you for the video.
Glad you like it! In my opinion, it's the best clear coat in a can. Thanks for watching!
I recently sprayed my passenger side on my car and just couldn’t find a clear coat that worked I’ve just ordered 3 cans from Amazon and will be strippeng the paint back and redoing it all again just to get a professional finish thanks for the review 👌🏽
I’m getting my track bike powder coated next month, gonna give this a try
Thanks your video made up my mind. Good video straight to it and show how to do it . You’re a Boss😎
I appreciate it. Thank you.
The other clears are basic enamel or lacquer clears. This is a 2k automotive urethane clear. Same clear that's used in automotive body shops. Many body shops use it for small repairs to avoid the hassle of mixing up additional product and cleanup of spray guns.
I appreciate you informing us about the life span of the hardener inside the can - that’s crucial information for people like me who might not use the entire can. Thanx.
You bet! Thanks for watching!
@@ExtremeDailyDriversI painted my real plastic valance with rustoleum 2x gloss white paint and primer . Could I use this over the dried paint to protect the paint? It's Rustoleum so I'm not sure . Really appreciate your wisdom/ advice .
@@Berighteousone You can use the clear over any paint. Thanks for watching.
I got my xB back in February and stumbled across your channel shortly after, so glad you started Toaster Tuesday it's given me lots of ideas and help with my car!
Keep up the great content! Sidenote what brand strut tower brace do you have? It looks amazing and I haven't been able to find one I like other than yours.
It's' a Hotchkis bar. I think they are still floating around on ebay every once and a while. I obviously painted mine, and did a video on it. Toaster Tuesday is a big hit for my little channel. Lots more xB content coming! Thanks for watching!
You can buy them at NAPA, also you can get color matched base coats custom mixed. Locally
I found this stuff at my local car paint and body shop. Got my paint color matched and put in a rattle can!!
I use 2K for headlight repairs. Tried using normal clear coats and they still turn yellow because I didn't know. Found out about this stuff and used it on some new headlights for my truck because cheap aftermarket housings don't come with clear coat. A year later and they're still crystal clear! I also redid my original taillights and they look just awesome :D
how many coats?
@@EazyDuz18 I think most do a minimum of two coats for most housings, but since it was in a rattle can and the contents go bad within 24 hours (the hardener will harden the clear coat in the can), I used the whole can, so I probably put like four coats on all four housings.
I'm starting to look at doing it with a normal spray gun now, though, that way I don't have to waste any, but Spraymax is awesome if you don't have access to a compressor and spray gun.
they sell speicalized clear coats for headlights normal 2k clear coat defracts the light from the headlights everywhere instead of on the road in front of you.
@@growingup4487 Never noticed any issues with the lights I coated with it.
This clear is all I use if I want pro results without breaking out my spray gun and mixing stuff. So when I saw my local Napa carries it I picked some up. Was $30 but didn't have to wait for shipping!
NPpa Carrie’s this?
There are stores locally that sell it. We have one here called westco auto body supply. You can get it at any store that sells actual auto paint like non spray can paint. Every major city will have an auto body supply store. You just may not know it!
Hey man! Noticed you weren’t wearing a long sleeve while spraying 2k. That iso can be absorbed through the skin so be careful!
Thanks for the tip!
Same for gloves. Nitrile ones will do the trick! Nice review. I used it for guitars.
Shoot I never thought of that!! Thank you
That's one hell of a clear coat...it definitely is worth the money considering how good the hardener is in it.🚗💥🗯👍🏽🇯🇲🌴☀️🌴
I get that locally. We have a chain called Neds. Can mix any paint and put it on a spray can. That's how I found out about 2k
If you have a paint specialty store around they will have it. One that sells automotive based paints and supplies. I've used that to restore headlights numerous times and it's awesome. I cant speak highly enough about that product.
I tried the Sherwin Williams store near my house, but they don't carry it.Thanks for watching!
Got my bumper painted and I didn’t let it cure enough and I got a bad clear coat crack from a rock, paint under is fine but the clear is cracked and a piece fell off, gonna use this to sand down and fix it
I love that stuff! Works so well
Thanks for watching, Amanda!
That may be true, however the can says otherwise.
Dude that's sick! I've been looking for good clear spray for years because I redo some of my drums every now and then and this should be perfect for the shells! It is a bit pricey but not bad when it's used for a investment. Cool vid man, I wonder what you'll surprise us with next.
Tuesday is right around the corner!
@@ExtremeDailyDrivers Hey man what kind of spray paint did you use on your dash?? I just got an xb and just found and binge watching your videos. Theyre sick!! Was it duplicolor, krylon? I'm stressing out about it.
@@GrinchTheGeneral Duplicolor I think. I did a video on it. It's the same paint I used on the valve cover.
@@ExtremeDailyDrivers thank you so much!!
This stuff is legit, Just did my new Splitter and it really came out good. For 24 shipped this stuff cannot be touched & it cures hard so it will protect the paint.
I picked up a 2pack on The Website for 35 bucks not including taxes. Used for restoring an old Honda trail 90.
im thinking about doing my whole semi truck with this after painting it at home next week
probably need 20 cans though? ideas ?
I have used this and the Eastwood 2K clear coat and the Eastwood 2K clear just seems better. The Eastwood 2K seemed to last longer, and it had a better fan.
Thanks for sharing. I'll give Eastwood a shot. Thanks for watching.
what do you use to paint the base coat?
good point on wearing a mask. but not just any mask. has to be a fresh new mask NIOSH approved mask for isocyanates. Also eye protection and cover every inch of your body. no short sleeves
What kind of compressor do you have?? What is a good one for a diy person
Napa has that on the shelf. Used the 2k matte stuff today
Awesome! Thanks for watching.
Can you use this on a regular rims just to make them shine???
Its like you heard my laugh then the pause HAHAHAHAH EPIC!
Results aren't as good over a darker color and spraying over a larger area like a car hood. The spray fan seems good but the overlap isn't consistent. I will try more cans.
If you live near a Summit Racing store, they have it on the shelf.
First off I wanna say I LOVE THE XB CONTENT I NEW MORE
Thanks! See you on Tuesday! #toastertuesday
Thanks a lot !
You are welcome!
Thanks for the review. Did you get any orange peel on the finish? Can't tell from the video. Would you then just compound and polish it out? Thanks,
It's an interior part so I didn't do any wet sanding or compounding, but you could.
For you interior pieces. What are the steps you followed ? Did you use a plastic adhesion promoter? Did you get primer ? Or just sprayed base and clear ?
Yes and yes!
Canada here...painting a van this wknd, this product an on Amazon up here...snap, auto paint stores only and a lil mo' dough...
Yeah, it can be hard to find.
Nice video! 👍 How long does the 2k spray max clear coat stay good for unactivated? The production date is Oct 2023 so I'm wondering when basically it will expire
I'm not sure, but I'm assuming pretty long. I'm sure what you
have is still good. 👍
Yes u need 3m Respirator. Must have.
And yes this clear coat is amazing and u can get at napa.
Agreed. I now own one. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the great vid ! Question . . . if you were doing a headlight restoration and using this, what would be your final grit sandpaper prior to sprating? I've heard 1500 . . . would there be any benefit to go finer, or would going not be beneficial? Thanks in advance.
I would never use clear coat on my headlights. It's totally unnecessary. Just polish and wax them to keep them looking good. The finer grit sandpaper you use, the less polishing you will have to do.
@@ExtremeDailyDrivers no that's not entirely correct. You can sand headlights and spray with 2k. It will prevent the plastic from yellowing and far superior to buffing and waxing repeatedly. For the ultimate protection sand, clear, and then ceramic coat the headlights and they will stay perfectly clear for many years 👌🏻
Like I said, take of them from the start and you will never need to clear coat anything. Any sealant will work fine. Don't get oversold on that ceramic coat "magic".
Im racking my head trying to figure this out bc I always mess up spray paint jobs. I have a Rustoleum spray paint which Im pretty sure is an Acrylic Lacquer (its the Custom Auto Series in Matte Pearl White) which Im going to use to paint my motorcycle (steel tank & fiberglass fairings). So my question is: Can I use this 2K urethane over that Rustoleum, and what wait times should I use between base & 2K clear? In addition, would it be the same process if I wanted to use the 2K for a different project I have in mind where the base would be an Acrylic Enamel? Thanks.
It should work, spray a test piece first and check the results. 10 minutes between costs.
Great tip! I wasted 4 bottles which I used to clear coat carbon fiber stuff and threw away all the "Red" cap lol. Thats why even after 1-2 weeks, the paint still felt soft.
Yeah, if it's not 2k, it's not really going to do much. Thanks for watching.
Most of your local auto paint stores carry it. The one near me was cheaper than Amazon.
You are lucky. None of them by me carry it.
Can anyone help me! I tried using this exact spraypaint but ended up with a bubbly kind of texture twice and dont know why. I sanded it supersmooth beforehand en cleaned it, also had the perfect temperature but still this bubble texture
Prob a dumb question but here goes. Can I apply this to a brand new car if I want more 'POP' on the gloss side of things? I guess what I'm asking is can I spray this on new paint job that has clearcoat already if I just want the most absolute shine? Or will I damage the paint?
Do not do that. Hire a detailer and have them polish and wax your paint. Thanks for watching.
Can anyone tell me how long I need to wait to recoat using the 2k glamour clear coat.
I ran out of paint on the third coat and I have some areas that aren't covered well and the finish isn't so glamorous on those areas.
I have another can ordered that should be here in a week.
10 minutes between coats. Thanks for watching.
77 olds sanded hood with 800 then 1000 cleaned and used max it is awsome 👌 wear a respirator dont be a fool. Also it drys rather fast I let it dry for 2 days and it perfect.
It's great stuff. Thanks for watching.
Hi, what kind of respirator filter is best to use with this stuff? I’m gonna get a half mask but there’s all different filters, on the safety sheet it says to use no less than A1P2 but what’s the highest filter level for maximum safety without having to invest with an air supply mask, fyi I’ll be doing the spray work on the road so won’t be in an enclosed space thanks
I am not the one to properly answer that question. I would check out some automotive paint forums or ask a sales rep at a Sherwin Williams store. If you find the answer, please report back and thanks for watching.
Hello, I am completely new to auto repair and trying to paint a primered replacement quarter panel for my 2020 honda crv, in its metallic silver. My inexperienced self thought everything was under control after applying the basecoat and clearcoat. HOWEVER, I forgot that all cars have the shiny reflective look, so I was disappointed to see my beautifully painted, albeit MATTE finish =(. Will this 2k clear coat product make it shine after a few coats? I assume I need to do some 1200-1500 grit wet sanding before proceeding..I only applied 3 light layers of that original clear coat.
This is the best clear you can buy in a can. Body work is a skill that takes time to learn. Good luck!
Have 2 cans of it, repairing the Florida sun damaged roof of my xb this week.
Nice!! Good luck!
Did it work?
Hell yeah prelude was my first car man
Nice!!! CRX was mine.
Thanks for the video. I’m using it on calipers. How long before i can put the wheel back on?
Put it on anytime. The wheel doesn't touch the caliper. If it does, you have a serious problem.
NAPA carries these in some stores.
Nice video and good work. You really need to be suited up head to toe, including respirator, before using this stuff. The fumes can actually soak into exposed skin. I've been using Spraymax 2k for 8 years now. I use a full hazmat suit and paint at least 20 yards from my home as I don't have a paint booth. I do have a fully finished garage but I will never paint this stuff there.
Good tip. It is serious stuff. Thanks for watching!
@casiotechI it is identical to factory clear as far as i know.
Man I just started going at it lol shorts, bro tank in my garage an nothing but an N95 mask and a fan
I have read since rustoleum is enamel and spraymax is urethane, that long term these won't work well together. Did you do research on compatability?
My research is on my dash board in the Florida sun. So far it's been aces. Thanks for watching.
I recently spray painted my plastic center caps with dupli-color and clear coated them with dupli-color clear coat. Didn't get the shine I was looking for. Can I use the spray max 2k clear over the dupli-color clear coat or do I need to remove the dupli-color clear coat first. The 2k clear is urethane based where the dupli-color clear is lacquer based.
I would maybe wetsand that clear coat with 1500 grit and then top it with the Spray Max 2k. Good luck.
Yes it stinks that you cannot buy locally, I underestimated the amount needed and ran out. Now I have to sand re-tape and respray...ugggh!
i want to use this over rustoleum gloss black~needed to scuff with #800 to clean up to smooth finish, can I clear over that surface or go up to #2000 or do i need another layer of black and then clear over that untouched surface? Thanks!
You never sand your color coat. Apply clear, and then sand and buff. Or redo the entire thing and prep correctly. Good luck.
I wanna know if u can get gas on this clear coat and it not harm it any. I wanna use this on my motorcycle gas tank but I gotta make sure it won't Crack or discolor if a little bit of gas gets on it..
Buy a can and test it.
Once this has been sprayed, does anyone have any advice on how to remove any orange peel effect?
Orange peel can be removed by wet sanding and polishing. Thanks for watching.
Thinking about doing 6 or 8 coats on the 69 eldo
It will come out looking awesome.
Tell people why............Wear a respirator not a mask. The hardener will harden on your lungs.....
Respirator alone won't cut it. Read about 2k clear coat and how it enters your system. That poison enters through your skin, eyes, etc. Leave automotive painting to the pros. Be safe guys!
F that it's too dangerous even with your cheap grade respirator.
Oh…
you gonna have some shiny lungs.. don't forget to apply the stickers beforehand
we can buy it local, here in Montréal at NAPA for $44.70 CND
That's awesome. Thanks for watching.
To anyone new who is looking at 2k clear products - yes use a mask. In addition, YOU NEED TO COVER YOUR BODY/FACE AS BEST AS POSSIBLE.
@extremedailydrivers, please put this info in your description somewhere but the 2k clears contain isocyanates which can be absorbed via the skin and eye membranes. This is just a quick piece of info for the DIYers. You can probably get away with it if youre only doing it one time but even then, be considerate of friends/family/neighbors nearby since i'm assuming you won't have a paint shop.
Nice vid, and yes the 2k clear comes out crisp af even without wet sanding and buffing.
Definitely need the mask (aka respirator). Thanks for watching.
great video. How long does it take to cure. I just used this on my dodge charger spoiler and and front bumper
Give it 24 hours. Thanks for watching!
@@ExtremeDailyDrivers can we speed up the cure process?
Awesome video man, I'm doing this to my motorcycle now . do you think it would be a good idea to wet sand after this?
Absolutely. Wet sand then polish for the ultimate finish.
So I have clear coat peeling on my roof when I sand it with 600 grit do i need to use water with it when sanding first then i can clear coat it
Think it's safe to put a vinyl decal on top of the base coat after the base coat dries and then spray this clear coat sealer over the decal so it looks professional ?
Yes it's safe. Thanks for watching.
what was the time it took to fully harden ? I am thinking about using this on my bike as a top coat over 1k black gloss acrylic 🙏
24 hours
@@ExtremeDailyDrivers many thanx brooo 🙏🏻
Wow! That’s a nice finish! Did you wet sand at all or is it really that smooth right out of the can?
That smooth right out of the can. Link in the description. Grab yourself a can and start customizing!!
@@ExtremeDailyDrivers that is awesome! I’m painting guitars. This will be MUCH better than the nitrocellulose lacquer finish I’ve been trying.
They sell them at auto paint supplies. Look up places near you. Most carry it.
I have never seen this at an auto parts store and I worked at one. Can you be more specific? Which auto parts stores? I would love to be able to pick this up locally. Thanks.
Advance Auto parts has carried this for years and this stuff is amazing
Other people have said that too. I think it depends on where you live. Thanks for commenting and thanks for watching.
@@ExtremeDailyDrivers I've been using it for years on small projects we paint a ton of BMX bikes base coat clear coat and it's awesome very very satisfied customers
@@ryanjacobsen9557do wear a mask and cover up
Nice video. I purchased 15 cans to target a project care that’s getting several panels redone.
How long do these take to dry to touch? Also many many coats would you suggest I do on let’s say a hood or roof?
Wanted to dedicate 2-3 can’t for the larger panels I’m redoing
10 minutes between each coat. Allow 24 hours to dry. Thanks for watching.
@@ExtremeDailyDriversthanks. I did my project yesterday and early this morning it drizzled slightly. Now that the sun is out I see water spots on my hood and roof.
Would I be able to wet sand them out once the car fully dries?
@@hhova29 The only way to know is to try. 🤷🏻 Good luck.
So I have a can of this to put over some abs chrome 3d lettering that I sprayed with duplicolor metalcast enamel spray... I've gone over the 1 hour coat time as I didn't know when the clear should be applied. The duplicolor instructions say anything over an hour after the last coat should wait 7 days to fully cure.
Do I wait now to do the clearmax?
Sanding is not an option as these are chrome and need to be smooth and shiny metallic
I'm pretty sure I mention it in the video, but clear gets applied 10 minutes after your final top coat. You can wait longer if you want, but it's supposed to be applied while the top is flashing. Good luck.
@@ExtremeDailyDrivers you mention it, but I watched your video about 6 hours after my metalcast was sprayed...
Does it work on license plates to block scamming speed cameras and red light scam ticket camera's from being able to read your license plate?
No, and that's an old wives tale. Thanks for watching.
I just sprayed with Montana Gold enamel spray paint for my base coat. Do you know if 2k is compatible with enamel?
It should
Every time I paint in my garage I get nervous I’m going to blow myself up because the fumes and the water heater 🙃
Lol. That never crosses my mind.
😂😂 o trust me it happens it happened to me when i was 12 messing around with spray paint in my garage
Do u kno if i would need to sand the base coat before clear?
You never sand a base coat. Thanks for watching.
I bought mine at a local sherwin-Williams Automotive store FYI
Nice. Mine carries it too. Unfortunately, it's almost twice the price of Amazon.
Very true!
You can get it Locally from NAPA I gotta can right now..
Yes, lots of people have said that. Thanks for watching.
Questions;
1. Is it uv protectant ?
2. Can apply tobcomposite materials? carbon fiber to be exact.
I think it is, and I think you can.
World of difference. I Fckd up and didn’t mask up. Left my garage high as a kite the first time.
Do you think I can use it on top of the vinyl decals of my RV to prevent fading?
Absolutely.
Great question!
If I sprayed high gloss 2k 2 days ago abut didnt get it thick enough can I just spray more coats on it as it? Or do I need to rough it up or anything? Will it stick since 1st is already cured?
Yes you can spray more.
@@ExtremeDailyDrivers Thanks! I just didnt want to mess it up and have to start all over again
How's this clear hold up to gas spills ?
Used an industrial paint on motorcycle gas tank and was surprised how good it looks but gas dulled the color ugly.
2k clears have a hardener, like automotive paint. Fuel “proof”. I use it to clear my tanks. Does the trick.
Can I use this on something I hydro dip and spray this 2 protected
Yes
Do you think this would work on wheels ? My wheels are in good shape but have lost their shine, do to cleaning to much.
Yes it will work, but you must properly prep the well before applying it.
Thanks for your tutorial! Will this product adhere to bare metal and metal with putinas? Best, John
Yes, absolutely
@@ExtremeDailyDrivers That's great! Looking forward to using it on my illuminated art. Thanks again!
Did you use a respirator or just a mask? Im getting conflicting things from the comments bot sure what to believe or if I should use this.
Use a respirator. There is a link for one in the bio. Thanks for watching.
I'm literally using it right now just did first coat. How long did you wait between coats?
10 minutes
What mask did you use and did you use a hazmat suit I wanna do my roof I just wanna know what do I need to wear
Can I use these (the matte versions) for doll repaints? The surface is vinyl/plastic
Yes, but if the surface flexes, the clear will crack and break.
@@ExtremeDailyDrivers Thank you!
I have a SprayMax 2k question for you. I sprayed it on, and it did a great job... but for whatever reason, I then decided to scour the end finish with 3000 grit before buffing it out with polish.
This left it with a sort of satin finish when I wanted high gloss to help enhance the colour pop!
Is it possible to lay another coat or 2 of SprayMax 2k, or will the polish I used repel the clear coat? If that is the case, is there a way to prep it without ruining the paint below?
I think you need polish it more. What polish are you using?
@@ExtremeDailyDrivers I used a Simoniz scratch remover, then standard wax, applied with a car buffer
You need a better polish with more cutting action to achieve the gloss you are looking for. Also, which car buffer are you using? Does it have multiple speeds?
@@ExtremeDailyDrivers
Yeah, you’re right, I definitely need a multiple stage cutting, Polish and finish product group.
This is my buffer (1 speed)
www.google.com/search?q=simoniz+car+polisher&safe=off&rlz=1CDGOYI_enUS791CA791&hl=en-GB&tbm=isch&prmd=svin&sxsrf=ALeKk02r6Njguf81QUS2-j-G-QT9RFEYkw:1609008556581&source=lnms&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwi3gNL7p-ztAhXKop4KHU46DHgQ_AUIFigD&biw=375&bih=541&dpr=3#imgrc=Beb6kugIvBeqaM
That's what I was afraid of. That buffer isn't going to remove anything. You won't get the look you are looking for with that or by polishing by hand. You need at least a duel action polisher and I would recommend Meguires 105 for polish. Good luck.
Okay I just restored some old carbon fiber pieces using the spray max 2k clear .. I wore a “mask” it was a Covid mask lol. This video has me paranoid I painted in my garage with the door partially open and the back door cracked open for ventilation am I okay?
I can't believe you are still alive!! If you are still alive, next time click the link in the video's description and order a proper respirator. It's only $30 or something like that. Thanks for watching.

Great tip. Thanks for commenting.
Hi! I recently bought new wheel flare molding parts for my car and realized the finish on the parts are like a satin/matte but the finish of my car is glossy. Would I be able to use this product on the parts to make them glossy? If so how would I need to prep the parts?
I don't think it will work like you want it to. It will be more glossy, but remember that clear coat is just that, clear, and will not change what's underneath.
