Game changer! I'm one of those that can't stand mattress stitch. I have a vest I need to finish and I'm going to use this technique. Love, love, love your videos. Thank you.

I am about to begin seaming a cardigan and wondered whether it was feasible to crochet it - my sewing skills are a bit blah! - and was so glad to see this. Can't wait to give it a try! Thank you

Yes, I just found this video 6 years after you posted it but I just knitted my first pieced sweater last summer. I've been putting off putting it together because I HATE sewing period! Imagine my very pleasant surprise when I thought about slip-stitching the pieces together that yours was the first video suggested by Google. To date you have been my favorite teacher because your teaching methods make sense to my brain and I get the bonus that like me you knit and crochet. Thank you. :)

I like this for setting in sleeves. Very easy to undo and redo if things aren't lining up just right

You can do it. It is not as difficult as it appears. I am not a crocheter so I feel like I can comment.

You must be psychic! I'm halfway through knitting a bag that is finished with a crochet seam. This is so timely and helpful. Thank you!

Love your videos. This is exactly what I need as I just finished a sweater and need to seam the sides. This is better than mattress stitch as I don't need to measure how much yarn I need. Thanks

nice option for my arsenal. I can see how this may be a good option if you were working with really splitty (not a word but we'll go with it haha) yarn, or one that is really hard to see the ladders for mattress stitch. I've knit some things in super fine yarn in black and deep colors that made it nearly impossible to find where I was in mattress. so this would be a great alternative.
as always, love your videos and look forward to them! can't wait to see some new knit work tutorials!

thank you so much for comparing and giving option to mattress stitch. I have a fear of mattress stitch, in a knitting class year back (when first started knitting) knitting teacher made "focus" of me in class because I simply couldn't understand mattress stitch. was humiliated.

I would say that teacher was a very poor teacher. She/He should have focused on a student that "got it" and had that student help her/him help the other students. You might have had a better chance of learning the mattress stitch from someone else.

You are awesome Staci! I've learned so much from watching you on RUclips and Facebook! I like this way of seaming much better than the mattress stitch. If you ever need to take your item apart, this seam would be much easier to do especially if you use a different color of yarn. Thanks for posting!

I think the mattress stitch seam looks a lot better in your comparison. One column of stitches in crochet stitch sample looks compressed. But maybe it's just these samples and maybe it would block out.

Looking at the front I thought the mattress stitch looked like a smoother join as well. Nice to have the option, but like you I think I would prefer the mattress stitch. 😉

Pull the yarn through the last loop, the loop will hold the yarn in place, then weave in the ends :)

I wonder whether going beneath one half of the "V" knit stitch rather than both legs would make for less bulk. Think I'm going to experiment. Thank you for the idea.

    • @verypinkknits
      @verypinkknits  7 лет назад +7

Yes that would create less bulk, but the seam would not be able to handle as much stress. You can decide whether to go under one or both legs depending on the amount of strain that will be on the seam.

I’m working with knitted sections for Warm Up America … and I am so lost. I don’t knit. I have no desire to learn. I know virtually nothing about knitting. But I have to join these … and I have no clue what I’ll do about the sides if the loops/legs aren’t there … Great video though.

What kind of edge stitches did you use here? Are they suitable for any kind of piece joining, e.g. sleeves to body, neckband, etc?

Staci: Are the Knitter's Pride crochet hooks ergonomically easy on sensitive hands? I have Knitter's Pride knitting needles with condensed wood -- & they're Fabulous. But are their crochet hooks as good as, say, Furl's crochet hooks?
