you got my subscription. Anyone that analyzes mundane stuff like this is awesome in my book! thank you for the insight and wisdom, I'll be buying some shackles.

I've tried many options over the years, and I finally settled on the Secure A Key. It clips onto your belt, and I use a large split ring that snaps into the holder. Works great. You can get them at your local locksmith.

Keys are the part of my edc that I just can't figure out. I have done like everything. I think I just dislike carrying keys.

Your first example, the heavy brass horse or dog snap hook, is intended to be crimped in a vise or carefully peened with a hammer.
Wichard (France) has small to quite large bow or anchor shackles in stainless or titanium which have detents as an option on certain models; these virtually eliminating the screw pins backing out. They also have “captive pin” models in which the pin stays with the shackle body.
Wichard has a great variety of very small to very large maillon rapids in useful configurations, the smallest in 2.0 mm diameter material as I recall. Wichard makes snap shackles with the wire latch which they may have invented(?); these in stainless and titanium. I’ve used the smallest stainless model daily for thirty years!
Davis has marine brass sailing snaps in sundry models which are cute and useful.
Check our Green Boat Stuff as a supplier of the above.
Learning to tie fobs and lanyards is recommended

Using shackles is good, the down side is loosening of the bolt. Great video on key management options. Nite ize does make locking S biners. For a some years my keys have been on a separate locking S Biners on a larger key hook. There is a SAK knife, light pry multitool, and ID tag along with keys. It's 4 oz however the car key is easy to detach.

That was a good rundown of the "struggle" and interest in finding options for our keys. I have been using the Clip Cat by E.K. Ekcessories for 6 plus years. I have tried other methods, but I keep coming back to the Clip Cat. With car key on one side and house/misc on the other, I enjoy being able to easily disconnect the house and other keys from the car key when dropping the car off at the shop, lending my car, or disconnecting it while the car is running so my wife can run back in house and get something we forgot! Most importantly, it has never failed me or opened without my operation. Thanks again for the video and ideas. After thought... I might get a new Clip Cat in a bright color, as the current grey does not help me find my keys given my bad habit of leaving the keys in different places around the kitchen or in the darkness of my pack. hah!

      Thanks!
For me, it's one of those problems for which there is no perfect solution- and since my needs change regularly, my solutions need to adapt as well. And: I loath large key rings- I can't stand carrying too much in my pocket.

The double carabineer is by far the best option, you just need one that locks on both sides. Got mine in Homedepot

MECARMY EH3 carabiner and titanium split rings. The carabiner has a gate to clip onto the belt and a slot cut into for split rings. It’s also got a flathead screw driver/ pry bar comes in titanium and copper pretty nice solution not too big.

I like the key smart mini which is essentially a soft toggle and I put my truck key on a separate one with a quick connect. Also idk if I wanna have them in my pocket or hang them from a belt loop

I have a system that's worked for years, its a clip like the 1st one with a closed loop on the other end instead of a hook. On the closed loop I have a large split ring with my keys and edc essentials.

Ooooooo yeah its hard finding a good best lite useful reality key ring set up. I used to use a plain ol split ring till I thought why do I have this this this I have no idea why I need this on my keys set up and killed the poor split ring every time I would eliminate or add new items. I try the cow nose ring and stop using it quickly as I got home. Then I went back to the split ring but this time I got some thicker and bigger but those became annoying also. Took a trip to hobby lobby and found some janitor ring the one you need to pull open and bingo ! I found a system that works ! I've been using climbing carabiner clips for year's witch I wear on my belt and belt loop so that it stays put. So those janitor rings and the clip great combination ! No more unnecessary keys tools or anything unnecessary goes on my rings.
One house key, one small good functional key lite, one mini pry bar tool and my Fire🔥 Nation ID dogtag is all I have and need on my keys that I have and use.
For my work keys its the same set up but its on a short keyleash without the dogtag and lite but with bike lock key and cuff key. Again simple usefull reality usefull items with out the unnecessary items.
