    New subscriber here! That's really interesting to see the price comparisons with M&S, I've only ever gone there for specific treats or gifts so had assumed the price difference for a normal shop would be much greater. I do shop in Aldi semi regularly but usually just for store cupboard ingredients as i agree their produce isn't the best quality and doesn't last long. I usually get produce and meat from Sainsbury's which luckily has loads of items price matched with Aldi now so you get the low price and reasonable quality - win win!

      Hi and welcome. The price difference on basic stuff isn't overly different. We all have our preferences. I love Sainsburys as well. 🩷

    Seems like any aldi I've visited is chaos and m&s isn't expensive like people think, they have budget lines plus least you know it's in date and good quality.

    • @jahcia
      @jahcia  6 месяцев назад +2

      Sara, this is what a lot of people are missing. There are stuff that I'll only buy in Aldi and nowhere else because it's good and reasonably priced. However, many do not take into account the chaos and the anxiety that follows when you can't find what you need, etc, as people move things and don't put them back. You see freezer stuff in the fridge or on the shelves where they don't belong. I shop at M&S for certain stuff, and then I go to Costco and other stores that carry what I need. On this Internet, people love to crucify others for their personal preference it's actually scary. 🩷

      @user-bz9wo4hw5q that was my experience with the fruits from there as well. I had grapes for well over a week and blue berries and mine were still good and firm. I even had a 3 week old pomegranate that was still good. I store all my fruits and veg correctly. I think people are confused and thinking I am telling them to shop at M&S. I will be honest I thought I might enjoy this but the longer it went on I started to feel anxious.
    Things got pulled about, squeezed , knocked over, picked up and put back after the lady stated she had no hygiene wipe for the trolley handle, so bacteria is spread about on the food like the pineapples.
    I could not see any dirt on the fruit juice cartons but when you get home give the packaging a quick wipe you probably are not going to drink out of the carton but a glass .
    What was wrong with the smoked fish you just made a sound and rejected it .
    The M and S fish looked like it was artificially coloured .It was very yellow.
    Aldi also sell smoked Bassa fillets, ive tried them a few times no complaints.
    I agree about checking your receipt I have been charged numerous times for the same item when I only bought one .
    I'm disabled and have to rely on somebody to give me a lift to the store and back and its embarrassing going back and saying you charged me for 2 packs of pork chops or 2 boxes of free range eggs .sometimes I cannot return for 3 or 4 weeks and food that was damaged or rotten inside , I had a black rotten coconut and dozens of bad avocados over the years .
    Another thing I've picked up on is reduced priced food was rung through at the full price .
    It is annoying to arrive and find empty shelves and freezer units .
    The short dates I agree were not good especially if like me you have to shop for 2 weeks in advance .
    Some M and S items are much nicer than aldi .Sausages for example I used to buy 3 packs for 10 pounds but they were 92 % meat not meat derivatives .
    Aldi chicken has no flavour and sometimes it's grey

    • @jahcia
      @jahcia  6 месяцев назад +2

      I am sorry my video made you anxious. Slightly moving items to see the quality is not a big deal. A few items may have been put back "aggressively" by accident and it was not intentional. I am right-handed. I am filming with my right hand without a tripod in a store with customers left and right of me, behind and in front of me. I am trying to get out of their way, I am not entitled to hover because I am filming. Anything I "squeezed" which was the garlic I picked it up and put it in my trolley. You are aware that your food is constantly touched from the production line to the supermarkets, right? You could not see the dust, but I can. I did not state anything was wrong with the smoked haddock. Most manufacturers add dye to the smoked haddock to make it the colour it is. Smoked fish are usually lighter in colour.
      There are people who do way worse than me just moving about things then placing it back.
      You stated the bacteria from my hands is spreading around on the pineapples. There were over 100 other people who touched those said pineapples before me. All produce should be washed before use. Thanks for watching. Be blessed.

    I do agree, quality is better at M and S. That broccoli was not as good as the M and S one. I buy somethings at Aldi like their organic oats and in a paper bag too! Also their gluten free pasta and the rice cakes. Aldi is cheaper on the shelf stable products but the fresh foods are better at M and S, thank you for showing us the difference.

      I bought the broccoli, tho it wasn't firm at all. I'm not gonna lie. That's it! The fresh produce and meat stuff I don't like compromising on. We know exactly what we require when we shop, and it's definitely a win in my eyes. Even tesco and sainsburys fresh produce is better than Aldi. Aldi has the quantity as they know who they are targeting. You're welcome. Thanks for watching 🤗

    • @jahcia
      @jahcia  6 месяцев назад +1

      @MumLifeAndMore I actually looked it up after @ellism5896 posted that and I was like oh wow.
      I found this on livestrong.com 👉🏾The "From Concentrate" Difference Both "from concentrate" and "not from concentrate" juices are pasteurized to remove potential pathogens that may have been in the fruit. Pasteurization involves quickly heating the juice to kill any pathogens. Commercial juices labeled "not from concentrate" are made by juicing the fruit, and then pasteurizing it.
      From concentrate" juice is juiced from the fruit, then filtered through a processor that extracts water. This way, the juice takes up less space when transported. Before being packaged and sold, water is added back into the concentrated juice and it's pasteurized, according to the European Fruit Juice Association.

    I agree about M&S, I buy most of my main shop in there. I do shop in Tesco as they have a decent vegetarian choice. I have started to buy salmon and occasionally some chicken from M&S since I developed a health issue which meant I had to give up being a full time veggy. This same health issue has altered a lot of my diet and I find that Tesco is the best shop to find the things I need at a reasonable price things which M&S do not stock. xxx

I hope that through food and good nutrition, you're on the mend.🤗 Once we know what we are getting from each store and what makes sense financially, it is not so bad. I am not a fan of the juice from the concentrate either. But I do buy it sometimes, when I need to be more frugal, and there is no bargains on the better stuff. 😉 If I cant find fresh vegetables or berries, I buy the frozen ones. Depending on how I plan to eat it. Blueberries I normally eat on top of yoghurt with some granola, frozen is fine. Gracia - my lovely dear friend, yes, now you are silly feathers are normal on eggs, I would see it as quality! Straight from the chickens 🙂 Oooh they have the nature valley granola bars.. I bought them when we were in the US. Both the boys and I loved them.

      @@jahcia I'm about half and half between M&S and Aldi. I enjoy M&S very much but I also don't approve of some of the misinformation I see on TikTok and the like claiming that M&S is broadly 'as cheap as Aldi' because anyone who regularly shops at both and doesn't cherry pick particular items - for example anyone who buys meat such as brisket or likes a ready made pie, pizza or curry - will know that this is not true. Even a tin of stewing steak is £4 at M&S. Sure, it's nice stewing steak to have in the cupboard for a pie, but it's definitely nowhere near to being as cheap as the Aldi one which is half the price and is still nice for those on a budget. I can afford the £4 one and am willing to pay it, but I regularly see a comeback to anyone pointing out the discrepancy above as 'But it's better quality'; which is irrelevant as this is about BUDGETS. The Ivy is better quality than Wetherspoon but that doesn't mean everyone can afford The Ivy
      If the particularly chicken leg joints M&S sell at (admittedly) a very good price happen to be the sort of meat you buy regularly then that's great, but personally I buy more whole chicken, pork and beef joints and I spend a lot more on the M&S ones. At least 50% more.

      @jahcia  6 месяцев назад +1

      @PotatoPirate123 I'm not implying there is anything wrong with Aldi meat I just don't buy it anymore. I am fully aware that many stores get their poultry, fish and produce from the same suppliers but we also know some stores get the "best quality" over others. We can't be that naive. 🩷

    • @PotatoPirate123
      @PotatoPirate123 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@jahcia it does vary. There is a misconception that all M&S food is better quality, but personal experience tells me that this is not true. I've had plenty of fairly average meals from M&S, and I've also had veg go off quickly despite the common idea that M&S veg has some magical unicorn dust sprinkled on it that keeps it fresh for months.
      Just for comparison, Aldi have sold a Luxury tikka masala for years in a round container. It's now £3.89. M&S now sell their own 'our best' tikka masala in exactly the same container, exactly the same weight and it tastes literally no better than the Aldi one, despite being £6.50.
      Personally I go to M&S mainly because I like the shopping experience rather than because I think their food is all amazing.
