Finally people restoring history thanks for having a brain and restoring it instead of demolishing the beauty
3 Million Doesn’t sound too bad of a price the house is BEAUTIFUL.
Cheapenough for history
I take it sold
Evanston land.
Oscar Mayer mansion before restored
The stone base of the building is the reason the floors are still perfectly flat.
Other reasons too... likely right-sized wood structure, craftsmanship, and well-cured, stable beams, joists, etc. Unlike many new homes where wood shrinks/distorts (bows & twists) however slightly used in rush to construct.
Thank you for saving this old house.
Thank you for saving this astounding beauty
Absolutely beautiful. So glad it’s been restored. 👋
Awesome house! Awesome rehab! Wish I had $3 million . So happy it was saved unlike so many we have lost.
It’s sold for only $1.7 million. For the most part it looks way too modern inside. For someone to pay 3 million for it they would have needed to stay with the original features much more. Had they left the original decor, appropriate for the time period, it would’ve been timeless. Instead they put in decor that looks like any decor in a track home.
@@emmas1082 yes I agree I restore old houses and the kitchen was way to modern but that's rehabberes for you I see it all the time
@@emmas1082 ...Agree, Rehab took a hit on his investment...There are units in Wrigleyville that have the same resonance inside.
...It's more of an "Upgrade renovation" and really doesn't maintain any historical prestige. Just having been "The Oscar Mayer Mansion" alone would have been worth 3Mil for openers but now with interior modernization, It doesn't carry enough weight on its own...1.7 was pretty much the going. Add another 55Gs in annual taxes not to mention the annual landscape maintenance bill....No Thanks!
@@raymondkunkel9615 Same here👍
@@imanonattorneyspokesperson Exactly!
I love the architecture of houses like that one.
So do I, I loved the stained glass windows.
It's always a heartwarming feeling when you see the vintage homes coming back to life❤
Agreed...I live in Altoona PA and there are a ton of victorian mansions built by the railroad that could be rehabbed. Would love to see that happen here!
If I bought it I would have vintage themed parties. I just adore this house!
You could serve plenty of cocktail weenies!
Ummmm.... Ketchup is usually my first choice on a hot dog. Mustard is ok too, I guess...
@@m4d2h0 Mustard no ketchup is a Chicago thing.
Really nice. Just way too close to neighbors, for the price.
that's what I was thinking....amazed it is not on an estate piece of ground. must have sold off the ground around it, perhaps, after falling on hard times. No little Oscars to pass this mansion onto.
I was once a guest in the house. I still remember the woodwork in the dining room and, of all things, the cedar closet.
I'm surprised those details were not mentioned here. Perhaps over the years, those exquisite features were removed and installed elsewhere. I don't know.
I always put ketchup on my hot dog
Wow! What a beautiful house! That front door was amazing!
the company should buy it and turned into a museum
steph soppanish lol, the neighbors would love that. Can you imagine the Weinermobile outside all weekend? Actually, that would be the good part!
@@kohljackal 😂😂😂
@@kohljackal lol how busy do you expect it to be? probably would barely be a bother and the company could at least own it and keep it up so it never falls into disrepair. those old homes are a money pit unless you’re very rich. it’s about preserving history
What a beautiful home! Wish it was in my price range!!
thumbs up to rehab job ....
Beautiful. Glad they didn't tare it down.
Trouble is it’s in Chicago
Goddamned shame the house sits on a standard residential lot - for $3,000,000.00 I wouldn't want to be so close to my neighbor.
Plenty of multi-million dollar houses in Evanston on top of similarly sized lots.
I actually got the chance to visit and tour the house once as a kid.
Fun and creepy at the same time! Loved it. I’ll never forget that experience!
I am curious. I used to clean house for a daughter of the Oscar Meyer family and I wonder if she would have recognised this building.
I kinda really like the ivy on the outside. Too bad it couldn't be kept like that.
Stunning! Absolutely love it! I bet the taxes on that are about $50,000 a year though.
Blanca W Blanca you got it ... you rich
They are a lot more. Remember, It is in tax city Evanston Ill,
You need to add reparations tax as well
Beautiful.
This is old but there is so much to enjoy. Don’t put ketchup on your hot dogs and Chi Chi Chia. 😆
1:11 The potential I see is a massive property tax bill. Especially since Northwestern University is exempt from paying property taxes in Evanston even though it’s a private institution.
Fantastic restoration! Wish I could afford to live there. Thank you for showing to us.
Nice house, imagine living there in old America, nice.
Beautiful homes
If I could get a lifetime supply of Oscar Meyer hot dogs 🌭 I would buy it
I wouldn't want to pay the heating and cooling bills
I love old mansions like that! We have a beautiful mansion in Pueblo CO that looks similar to that and has been restored and is now a museum!
I would love to purchase that home
Only a weenie would live there. Ahem... hellooo... 'Weenie'?.... anybody?... Is this thing on?
Thank you!
Can y'all restore the houses in Virginia and Ottawa Canada? Really pretty. Your time is now! Their falling apart!!!!!!
P&I $141,144. yr Tax $62,016. yr
Gorgeous. Good story
Beautiful house. Thank goodness they didn't tear it down.
This strikes me as a place with a lot of paranormal activity
Ghosts wandering the kitchen looking for their Oscar Meyer Weeners ....🌭🌭🌭🌭🌭🌭🌭
It sold in 2018 for $1.74 million.
Beautiful and i want it.
I will buy it.
What's wrong with ketchup on a hot dog? It's sacrilegious of all things, to even bring ketchup into the house? It's tough times when news people can't report the news.
Love the doors and all absolutely breathtaking
Just beautiful.
Hot dog!
Amazing house!! So glad it was restored
Watching from Canada it is so beautiful all I can say is wow thank you for Showing it 🇨🇦
1901 is quite modern to us in the UK - part of our house is 1760’s. We have this system of grading buildings (1 = most valuable in terms of historic importance; 2 = less so; 3 = less than 2). It’s certainly not perfect and is abused by some but, for the main part, ensures that “valuable” buildings (not just houses) are subject to scrutiny before any work can be done on them. More than that, the local council has a duty to ensure that the listed buildings inside their area do not fall into disrepair and can, effectively, force the owner of the building to stop deterioration. However, as our local council proves, the local conservation officer is meteriocally unfit for their role and many absurd decisions are made.
Taste is personal but I personally love the style of this house. It seems to have been refurbished with such thought as to materials and designs. I hope the developer makes enough money out of it so that they, and others, are encouraged to refurbish more houses that need love and attention. I also love the Meyer Mey house in Grand Rapids and the Johnson Wax building in Wisconsin. I’m lucky enough to have had the opportunity to visit both of those. However, I’m not blinded as to the shortcomings of living with a building designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.
Too bad they cut the lot size. That was a weak move. Great result to the interior. Poor result for the 0.28 acre lot.
What was the added-on structure on the right side that was removed? (too damaged? not the original structure/design?)
Beautiful!
My great-grandfather was good friends
with Oscar Mayer. Mayer convinced my
my great-grandfather to buy a black Cadillac, because when you reach a certain amount of success you buy a clack Cadillac.
One problem. It's in Chicago.
Why did they demo the two sunrooms off the side?
Location destroys the historical prestige...
...Not enough space between next door neighbors. You mean to say Oscar Mayer had ran out of inheritance recipients?
Oh, I wish I had an Oscar Meyer mansion...............
Beautiful
Should have more on the house
Hotdog!
HOT DIGITY DOG!!!
Wow, The house is beautiful! Is in Chicago?
One of the newscasters mentioned Evanston, Illinois.
It's probably haunted !!!!😣😢😳
Can you imagine all the births and deaths and happy and sad times that have happened I n that house, as the news caster said at the start this clip... If walls could only talk.
Can you imagine all the hotdogs they ate?🤗
Sounds like a pretty low profit margin for that level of work, and time, and notoriety. Happy it got salvaged though.
Bunch of weirdos. You don't put ketchup on brats.
Wow
Let Us Give Great Thanks for The Maker of The King of Lunchmeat!
The developer had to sell off part of the property first to cover his cost. The house only sold for 1.4 million.
No one in the real estate market wants to speak publicly about it but high-end properties are searching for new owners. The market in the Chicagoland area for $$$$$$ is saturated and as the older owners die off, there are not many local buyers of means to replace them.
that big of a house is to close to neighbors at first i thought that house on the left was
an ad on to the brick house then i got a pic from another angle it a beautiful home if you have a large family of
like 10 or more
It's in Chicago so no way Illinois is the mid America California.
Awesome
People that originally owned that house were full of bologna.
Lol nice 😂😂😂 one
Jeff Polaras and full of cheap booze 🥃
Nice
It's a lovely old home and the price is fair with one problem. I wouldn't want my family to grow up in what will become known as the "Weiner House". Kids are cruel.
Hot dog! They did a great restoration.
The house bologna built....
If it was soaked with water, It's going to have a mold problem. Either now, or in the future.
Is the house next door also a 'Mansion'? I doubt it!😁
Does it come with the winniermobile?
Spell much?
That is so gorgeous
Did Oscar Mayer hate catsup or something? What's up with them repeatedly saying to not put it on hot dogs?
To bad it's in Chicago.
That house is definitely haunted
Modern touches ruined it..
Isn't this house of ruby waxs family. Her dad was Oscar meyer
Well. Hot Daaaawg!
She doesn’t lives north Syracuse well hope a nice night being your interest in me
wtf are you trying to say?
Uh what?
@@North49191 helllooo?
Beautiful, but those wood floors should be shining. They have a dull appearance.
beautiful building, i just wonder why people plant that crappy ivy? lol. btw i must have eaten 10.000 oscar mayer wieners lol.
well they absolutely DESTROYED the exterior of that beautiful fairy tale castle by removing all of the ivy. SHAME!!!
Ivy can grow back, unlike brick.
@@jamesmcinnis208 It takes a very long time for it to grow to become that gorgeous and picturesque.
@@NationandState Not really. Parthenocissus tricuspidata has a robust growth rate. It only makes sense that structural repairs would take precedence over cosmetic features.
@@jamesmcinnis208 What is the growth rate?
@@jamesmcinnis208"Is Boston ivy bad for brick?"
Self-clinging climbers such as Boston ivy and Virginia creeper (Parthenocissus sp.) do not usually cause damage to wall surfaces, but common or English ivy (Hedera helix sp.) supports itself by aerial roots and where these penetrate cracks or joints they may cause structural damage. Sound masonry is unaffected.
Here's where we're at. 1. you can admit that the ivy could have been left since it doesn't damage brick. 2. you can admit that you were wrong in the type of ivy you were referring to.
Look at that disgusting floor in the factory mmm
True craftsmanship of a bygone era! Everything is made in China now!
QUESTION: Do the Meyer's eat processed meat? "Oh, I wish I were an Oscar Mayer wiener...That is what I truly want to be"
Nice old place. Aren't there any ghost?
W.O.W.
I met the Oscar Mayer weinner moblile. Snowden river parkway. We were there at the stop light.
Me, too! In the 50's in Davenport, Iowa. What a thrill‼‼‼
3 million? Let me pull that right out of my wallet. All the best to anyone that has enough dough to buy this.
