Except they didn't! The tweet clearly says "SADLY, THAT'S NOT THE CASE" and this guy is reading it out loud to you! How could he come to the exact opposite conclusion??? And how is nobody in these comments getting it?? Are you all seriously such NPCs???
@KombatGod Sorry, it has been a while since I've watched the video, so I'm not 100% sure which point you're referring to, or if I'll even get this right. If I remember correctly, they were saying that on official hardware you could do memory manipulation by performing arbitrary code execution using different button inputs. I could be wrong on that, though. Honestly, my initial comment was more about the fact that Sonic and Tails were in Fighting Vipers and that the Sonic fan community had been aware for a while. If you use the Wayback Machine to check out X-Cult (a branch-off of Sonic-Cult) and go to one of the timestamps around April or May of 2008, you can find a section on Fighting Vipers that has a screenshot of Sonic in the game, and the page also has Cheat Engine codes to access him, Tails, and other secret characters. Hopefully that helps you understand my personal point of view.
@@The_Metal_Mechanic you remember it right. The problem is that it's false. The conclusions this guy came to in the video are wrong, they did NOT find a way to select Sonic in the original hardware. The tweets this guy's reading are quite simply somebody sharing a bit of trivia that has been know for a long time. It's saying "can you perform a trick to go beyond the selecable characters? Sadly that's not the case. So who is that first inaccessible extra character? It's Sonic!" I mean after watching it again I admit it is a bit confusing, especially since it seems he put the wrong images next to the bits of text, so I don't really blame anybody for misunderstanding it... except the guy for actually setting up a camera filming and editing a video with a sensationalist title before he even understood what he read.
It's funny how Max pointed out that people used to dive into the source code just to find these hidden characters back in the day and not that long ago MK2 has had it's source code leaked, I wonder what brand new discoveries can mind-blow us the way Fighting Vipers did.
I thought this was all solved ever since it was discovered how to select Honey the Cat in Sonic the Fighters Who is in fact a pretty neat callback to the game's history, as it's just a Sonic-style version of Honey from this game (which the US version strangely renamed to Candy) so dare I say, the cycle is complete
Yeah there is nothing new, the tweet was just reporting the inaccessible characters in the game (we've known for a long time). How did the person in this video think somebody found a way to unlock them is beyond me. At no point in the tweet it says you can unlock them, in fact he clearly says "SADLY, THAT'S NOT THE CASE" ...and this guy even reads it out loud! Has the whole world gone insane?
I've known about Sonic and Tails being in Fighting Vipers' code for some time. However I didn't know about the actual Devs putting themselves in the game. Great video max!

Pepsi Man was also included as an unlockable character in the Japanese only version of Fighters Megamix
I love secrets like this, characters being hidden so well, it actually took, not years but decades to find.
I remember Fighting Vipers, Honey (Candy), Grace and Raxel are my favorites characters there.
Love the soundtrack too.
Honey is an underrated waifu 🥰
I'll never forget the many times my cousins and I tried to unlock Nimbus Terrafax in MK1. EGM was a savage for that.
The 90 ies were Funky Times for Fighting Games. Oh the Memories i have of Tekken 2 and Soul Edge. and the first Marvel vs Capcom Game. and Virtua Fighter 1.
and i remember being blown away by the Animations of the very first Street Figher III.
I'm still blown away by SFIII
@@macuser7048
Oh Yeah. Hugo s animations alone and His Stage and how the clothes move on Ibuki and Ken. I remember seeing a Making of Street Fighter III and it was VERY Expensive to Develop they were disgussing If its even worth it. The ONLY 2 D Fighter that Looks better is Capcom vs SNK 1. Man these Backgrounds.
Oh man, we're getting closer for people figuring out how to unlock Akuma in RE2 original.
Is he able to punch zombies? lol
It would be crazy if Jean-Claude Van Damme was tucked away in the original Mortal Kombat
This same type of thing actually happened with Castlevania SOTN. There is a sword in the game called the Muramasa that can be leveled up to 999 attack power and be carried over to new games that wasn't discovered till like 2009 or so.
In street fighter 30th anniversary collection if you go to museum and look at alpha 3 music you can find shin akuma and evil Ryu's themes even though they are only in the console versions of alpha 3
Edit: I found out it's just the music that plays when you fight Ryu at the end of arcade mode as M.bison
The Sonic community has known about Sonic and Tails in the code of FV for decades now. It is cool to see that they have found a way to select them without hacking
yeah, the funny thing is that they didn't? the guy say in his thread replies that you can only select them by memory manipulation.
It's Sonic!"
I mean after watching it again I admit it is a bit confusing, especially since it seems he put the wrong images next to the bits of text, so I don't really blame anybody for misunderstanding it... except the guy for actually setting up a camera filming and editing a video with a sensationalist title before he even understood what he read.
@@KombatGod ah, okay. That makes perfect sense. It's a shame that information like that can be glossed over so easily.
Great Stuff, as always!
That hidden cheat journey to finally get to Sonic was wild 🤣
Makes me wish the early Tekken games had Namco characters like Pac-Man and Klonoa.
That’s literally just jotaro it’s not even trying to be a little different lmao
Man, I really been under a rock. Idk know what has me more shook.. A Max Dood video where Max doesn't bash Sonic or the fact he cut his hair.
You mean to tell me that we would've had Sonic vs Pepsiman?
It turns out the secrets to playing Sonic and Tails in Melee were for the wrong game all along.
It's funny how Max pointed out that people used to dive into the source code just to find these hidden characters back in the day and not that long ago MK2 has had it's source code leaked, I wonder what brand new discoveries can mind-blow us the way Fighting Vipers did.
They need to Revive Fighting Vipers…. One of the coolest fighters ever
You know how SNK is bringing all their fighting games back? Sega should do the same thing with all the AM2 games.
Shen Long literally crying and shaking right now
you know theres some old guy somewhere who found this and would always tell his friends , for them not to believe him
I thought this was all solved ever since it was discovered how to select Honey the Cat in Sonic the Fighters
Who is in fact a pretty neat callback to the game's history, as it's just a Sonic-style version of Honey
from this game (which the US version strangely renamed to Candy) so dare I say, the cycle is complete
My dad showed me Fighting Vipers when I was small, I recently ported it over to my Steam Deck, it still holds up.
I've known about Sonic and Tails being in Fighting Vipers' code for some time. However I didn't know about the actual Devs putting themselves in the game. Great video max!
Between this and 2P Super Punch-Out!!, it’s neat to learn all of these crazy things on old games THIS LONG IN THE FUTURE!
This is old news, though. The Cutting Room Floor already had an article for this a few years ago, about Sonic and Tails being accessible in the arcade version through cheats.
This is so fascinating! I knew they were unfinished and unselectible by normal means, but I never knew that there was technically a way to do it!
Holy shit man i love the fresh cut idk how long you've had it but it's fresh as hell my guy 👌👌
