I personally think the clone either obtained the emerald in the cloning process from the original, or the emerald you gain from them isn’t actually what happened. And the character you play as always had the emerald on hand. So it’s just a visual thing to show what level you beat in the list.
It might partly be my nostalgia, but I always had fun playing Sonic the Fighters with friends back when you could only get it on Gems Collection. Even friends who didn't care about Sonic loved playing it for some reason, but either way still grateful for its existence.
Honey the Cat is one of the best Sonic characters ever, and I am still very upset that the Archie Comics got canceled one arc before she was going to make a return.

I distinctly remember the arcade of this game as a child being at an old children's pizzaria called Jeepers. Fang and Espio standing out to me the most as the only two characters I knew about at the time was Sonic, Tails and Eggman (aka Robotnic). ...Now for my absurd head cannon for a sequel to this "Marvelous Queen" of a gem! Mechanically, it doesn't have to change all that much if at all tbh. Just give different moves to each character more moves than the original, a super meter (shaped like a chaos emerald that goes up to at least 7 levels as well as changes into their colors for each level) and give the barriers more uses than just blocking attack combos like maybe anti combo burst moves as a get-off-me kind of ability similar to skull girls when they do a burst to push back opponents. Or a parry option to quick stun opponents, leaving a window for you to attack. Or perhaps use it to summon notable shields through out the Sonic series such as: Fire shield, Bubble shield, Magnet shield, Chao shield, Gaia Shield, Super shield, Speed shoes, Invincibility, ect. And still be capable of use at least three to go Hyper mode. Honestly you can utilize all of these different functions similar to Street Fighter 6's Drive system (Chaos Drive System lol). As far as a Sonic fighting game goes you could also implement an assist/character swap mechanic like Marvel vs Capcom or something (more specifically Ultimate 3) since the Sonic series puts a heavy emphasis on team work. And just for shits & giggles -- stage transitions and destructable environments similar to other 3D fighrers like Virtua Fighterss and Fighting Vipers, Tekken, DOA, Soul Caliber, 3D ps2 era Mortal Kombat games (Deadly Alliance, Deception, Armageddon ect.) I don't understand why people hated this game, its cute, charming, amazing music, great visuals, fun to play, awesome characters, etc. People hate on Sonic R too even though that game is also great, people who complain about the controls dont know how to use them properly, I explained that all you had to do was hold the bumpers down while you're turning to a friend and he was baffled that I somehow 100% completed a game he thought was the worst most hardest game ever, when in actuality, its just cute, charming and harmless fun. Sonic Fans expectations went up a bit too high at some point, I bet people loved this game when it came out in the arcades. People are starting to like it again too.
This game feels a lot like SEGA's own 2.5D fighters in the same decade, particularly Fighting Vipers (Wherein Sonic and Tails used to be in the game's code, IIRC). Heck, way more so than other 2D fighters.
I find it incredibly strange that this game never got a port to the Saturn. Like Virtua fighter and Fighting Vipers got ports, Sonic is their flagship mascot, and VF apparently carried the damn console in japan. What was the hold up? was Bean too graphically intensive for all 18 of the Saturn's CPU's?

I must say, I love this channel. It reminds me a lot of cybershell in the way that you’ll talk about some niche topic for a while and make it entertaining. While i do like cybershell more, more cybershell is just a good thing.
