DNF Duel of all games has one of the most banger character select themes ive ever heard. Instant classic when i heard it for the first time. Shame the game might not live on forever, but that theme sure will.
One thing not a lot of people mention about SF6's character select music is that the song is dynamic. The first third of the song plays during stage select, then the next third plays during character select, and then the chorus goes full blast during the walkout screen. Not a lot of fighting games that I know of do that.
It's Daisuke Ishiwatari, I swear any music that man composes is God tier. There is reason the meme is you get a cool video game with this dope ass rock album.
Third Strike select theme is just so powerful with the “Welcome to the World of Street Fighter 3, prepare for battle” It really made me feel the street aspect of SF
I wish SF6 felt this exciting. Something is missing in its soundtrack. But SF3 Third Strike goes all in, it goes hard. It does not hold back. From the first stage, to the last. The music drives you to keep going
@@kadosho02you have to remember that it's their third try and is a very different aesthetic. The street in sf3s and sf6 are very different streets. In sf3 it's about being salt of the earth and a part of the world and in sf6 it's about fighting as an individual and bettering yourself independent of what others think of you. I think both aesthetics were perfectly realized by the ost
Soul Calibur 2 holds a special place in my heart. Growing up, I had the Xbox version of the game, but family ended up selling it cuz we needed money at the time. A couple years later, I got the PS2 version, unaware that each version had different guest characters, but a few years later, we went to a fancy mall that was an hour away from our home, & I found a retro game store that had the Xbox version for cheap. When the 10th anniversary version came out, I was in middle school & got it for christmas the year it came out. Soul Calibur is & always will be my favorite fighting game of all time
Blazblue Calamity Trigger's _Blue Beating_ is such an _interesting_ song. Blazblue itself is this bizarre hodgepodge of genres and styles that just work together; in essence, it is a magic cyborg samurai anime rock opera, and its music goes the extra length to encapsulate all of that. The title music of Calamity Trigger basically sounds like an orchestra warming up, leading into its main menu music which sounds like a very withdrawn prelude. By the time you reach _Blue Beating_ , the harpsichord and the orchestra reach a peak before it transitions into rock, and everything just folds together into a cohesive whole.
Blazblue is the only FG franchise if you asked me what my favorite character select theme in the franchise, I'd probably say *all of the above.* Blue Beating (CT & CS), Proof of the Warrior (CP), and Next Force (CF) are all bangers in their own right IMO.
I think Proof of the Warrior is by far the best character select theme. Absolute head bang rock theme. The riffs go so hard. I think it blows the others out of the water and its a shame they missed getting to hear it.
MBAACC, UNIB and Skullgirls have that laid-back feel to their character select themes. Instead of the "bombastic entrance in a stadium" feel, it's going for the "oh, I stumbled into an opponent while walking around at 1AM" feel.
It would’ve been way better received if they just kept it like Dissidia 012. Instead they were trying to make some kinda esport out of it when that was never a goal of Dissidia. It’s a shame too cuz the characters were pretty great
I want Tekken 5 "Who's Afraid of" to play when St. Peter is deciding whether or not to let me in the Pearly Gates. Other than that, I'll just turn back.
Not a fighting game, but Mario 3-on-3 stood out to me for having a really catchy Character Select theme. It was by the same composer who would later do music for Final Fantasy 16.
@@jweezycosmoif you listen to the OST version of the songs you can kinda hear his influence more. But yeah, learning he did the soundtrack for that had about the same impact as learning the KH composer did the SF2 soundtrack
Calling Gathers Under Night from Uni boring is absolutely insane. Easily a 10/10 character select theme, especially if you play Uni it fits so well with its aesthetic.
@masterhand177 doesn't really matter when he loves GG. They clearly prefer more guitar sounding songs, the UNI song wasn't to their taste, that's all.
I love how third strike's theme literally tells you that the game is twice as hard lol. They really valued the coolness that comes with mastery and challenge.
Damn the edits crazy, loved the animated Tekken logo with the fire moving along. Also, I missed the absolute banger that The Last Blade II character's select theme is. You guys need to give it a listen at that as well, it's like Samsho's but MUCH BETTER. It's a bit limited by the hardware but the composition is freaking great, please add it on a Part II
sure a great track, this Meiji-era chanbara fighting game has the one of best select song which reflects a historic, destined people's blood-drived life in to it.
I used to do a live web radio show about fighting game music. The recordings are still out there as podcasts. So this is right up my alley. Great selection here, but there's a few brilliant ones that are missing. Hoping for a Part 2 someday.
@@GamerTowerDX thanks for the interest! It was called FiGHTS into Streams (a pun on NiGHTS into Dreams) and it was part of RadioSEGA's family. Please keep your expectations low, though - I couldn't afford a mic back then and used my laptop's.
Man they only got to Calamity Trigger for BlazBlue, but I was waiting for them to land on Chrono Phantasma so hard, that theme hits ALL the right buttons! I remember being in the crowd at EVO 2014 waiting for top 8 to start and it played on loop because things got delayed. Never got old! Central Fiction's is great too, and honestly is probably the better character select theme because it fits better, but I'm too in love with Chrono Phantasma's. Really hope they hit the rest of the BBs for part 2.
35:27 It truly does sound like it's taking you to an Adventure and the Editing here was Beautiful! This video is nothing but an absolute Banger, these two got them Dance Moves. 🔥
50:06 Facts. Tekken always delivers with the music. I wish they played the Tekken 2 character select music (arranged), one of the absolute best character select themes.
Them's Fightin' Herds character select theme would need a video all to itself. For those who don't know, TFH has a base theme and is layered with 1p select, 2p select, and every combination of characters for a wholly dynamic theme. If there was an 11/10, that would be it just for the amount of sound engineering involved.
When they put the Under Night in Birth theme…. I was like, don’t give it a 9, not even an 8. That’s a perfect 10. One of my all time favorite fighting games. And i can’t wait for UNIB2!
UNIB honestly has like the perfect character select screen to me im excited for the sequel but honestly im really disappointed they changed the character select screen so much it feels like a major downgrade even if i understand why they did it
@@syoukoosanai8541 the character select screen is not the worst honestly, I give it a pass. I do like the immortalize theme at the beginning of the match 👌🏼 always have love for the original one too.
This video was a 10/10! Also props to the editors. Loved Max hyping Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown, it's really one of the best themes. Would've liked to hear more from Soulcalibur though, I mean SC6 even made it to the friggin' Olympic Games in Tokyo!
I can’t believe he didn’t play Soul Caliibur 3’s character select theme. That one is very underrated. Also, Soul Calibur 5’s Online Character Select theme hits VERY HARD with the intensity.
@@danielclark653 It lives in mines too, soley because I lived on that game for years and still do but…I didn’t mention it because I feel it’s the weaker theme compared to the rest of the trilogy. Those weird drums and remixed melody of the original theme just didn’t do it for me but…I will say Soul Calibur 4 is my top pick for best Soul Calibur game. It was the last real Soul Calibur in my opinion. SC6 tries to be Tekken and it’s over saturated with mechanics now instead of just being able to play 3D chess with your opponent!
Editing team props to you for adding to this already awesome moment! And now i want rate the music to be a thing! There’s so much music out there in the fighting game sphere!
The definition of a wasted opportunity is Mortal freaking Kombat having the hypest music ever, Techno Syndrome, and never ever using it in any character select screen. It's absolutely perfect and should've been used in every MK after 1995 :D
@@NiiRubra I always thought some of MK3's stage BGM came close to matching that tone, like the Subway, the Street, and the Bridge. Shame we didn't hear more of that in subsequent games.
@@NiiRubra they are insane, indeed! Besides the kickass beat, it starts by saying "Test Your Might", inviting you to pick a character, play the game; it proceeds to yell the name of the game; and last but not least it says the characters' names (which they could probably edit to include all the roster)!
@@ciaranlentze5946 Dan Forden's work is actually pretty good imo, his MK tracks kind of follow the "tone" that the NRS folks want while still sounding catchy and fun, the MK3 character select theme they listened to in this video being a good example of that.
I think one character select theme that was missing was the DNF Duel theme. Its incredibly hype and yes, its recent, it has no legacy, but it is as good as any of the ones in this vid.
DnF has 20 years of legacy. All the music is from the game DnF which has been the #1 grossing game worlwide since before WoW released, it's just not really known in the West.
I was waiting specifically for SSF4 and I'm so glad it got in. That theme holds a special place in my memories since it was the first fighting game I put hours into to really try getting better at.
I believe the Korean ost for GGX2 came about as a famous and popular musician was offering to work on tracks as a marketting tactic for Korean releases of the game.
This specific kind of music is a huge part of the arcade experience. You put the token in, and now you have to prep not only your character choice, but your mind for the action about to unfold, in 60 seconds or less.
I think the first Killer Instinct game's character select screen music has this dark, almost gothic medieval build to it. It's very dark and serious. My personal favorite has gotta be Deadly Alliance.
For me Tekken Tag Tournament has the best character select music, as it might not be the best 'song' but it absolutely nails the fighting game essence by being upbeat and memorable
12:44 I remember Samurai showdown select screen/music so vividly. My dad had this on our wii and I would always try and do story mode but always get my butt kicked since I would just mash. This vid is the only one that could make me remember something so nostalgic!

@@jweezycosmoif you listen to the OST version of the songs you can kinda hear his influence more. But yeah, learning he did the soundtrack for that had about the same impact as learning the KH composer did the SF2 soundtrack
@@jweezycosmo And Soken is still very proud of his work on Mario 3-on-3, he still lists the game on his bio, even when promoting FF16
Editing this good, consistently through a 1 hour video.
10/10
In hindsight, Mutant Academy 2 not having a character select theme when the rest of its soundtrack is straight bangers is low-key criminal
Calling Gathers Under Night from Uni boring is absolutely insane. Easily a 10/10 character select theme, especially if you play Uni it fits so well with its aesthetic.
UNI’s aesthetic might be my favorite in gaming as a whole
He hates anime, thats the problem
@masterhand177 doesn't really matter when he loves GG. They clearly prefer more guitar sounding songs, the UNI song wasn't to their taste, that's all.
@@-8h- They also didn’t like Actor’s Anteroom from MBAA so maybe they just don’t like Raito.
Just the way all the character portraits drop in to the piano. It's perfect.
Smash Bros Wii U menu theme still sends chills down my spine.
i love it to death
I love this video dude. Every now and then I rewatch it from start to finish.
I love how third strike's theme literally tells you that the game is twice as hard lol. They really valued the coolness that comes with mastery and challenge.
Soul Calibur 6's character select is so top tier it made it to the Tokyo Olympics.
I was looking for this. A true masterpiece
Hmm
How dare you skipping MK Deception
Forreal. Its the 2nd best character select in mk games
Tekken Tag 1 (PS2 in particular), MK Deadly Alliance, and Soul Calibur 2 & 3 are some of my absolute favorites.
God, the Tekken Tag 1 one is so fucking good.
What about Budokai Tenkaichi series or even Budokai 1 and 2, hell even Shin Budokai 2.
Deadly Alliance's character select went hard. Definitely up there as one of the best.
Deadly Alliance is like THE sound I think of when I think of 3D MK music, I wish we got more of that in MK1
All day long Tekken tag tournament!
No way he just gave UNIST's theme a 7.
I need the name
@@GamerTowerDX thanks for the interest! It was called FiGHTS into Streams (a pun on NiGHTS into Dreams) and it was part of RadioSEGA's family. Please keep your expectations low, though - I couldn't afford a mic back then and used my laptop's.
I hope max and Steve keep doing these videos. An RPG music one would be great!
A couple of bangers that weren't played but I wish were!
- CvS - Player Select 2
- KOF '99 Arranged
- Tekken 7 Season 2
- Darkstalkers 3
The slander for MK Deadly Alliance's Character Select Theme really just left me dead inside
The editing in this video is PHENOMENAL
The steve dance edit was the best thing ever
Man they only got to Calamity Trigger for BlazBlue, but I was waiting for them to land on Chrono Phantasma so hard, that theme hits ALL the right buttons! I remember being in the crowd at EVO 2014 waiting for top 8 to start and it played on loop because things got delayed. Never got old! Central Fiction's is great too, and honestly is probably the better character select theme because it fits better, but I'm too in love with Chrono Phantasma's. Really hope they hit the rest of the BBs for part 2.
Skullgirls has an amazing char select theme. Hell, the whole soundtrack is great.
BEOWULF THEME!!!!!!!!!!!
35:27 It truly does sound like it's taking you to an Adventure and the Editing here was Beautiful! This video is nothing but an absolute Banger, these two got them Dance Moves. 🔥
Amazing job by the editing team creating a lower 3rd for each game! So cool!
"That is definitely a keyboard that they are going in on." Actually, I like to imagine it was Daisuke Ishiwatari himself, jamming on a keytar.
Indeed!
Guilty gear just always having high scores is so great because Daisuke Ishiwatari is a insane composer and instrumentalist, i love it so much
Guilty Gear XX has a slamming soundtrack 👍
Ong my G Raito doesn’t miss!!! 🔥🔥
The song is a 20/10
UNIB honestly has like the perfect character select screen to me
im excited for the sequel but honestly im really disappointed they changed the character select screen so much it feels like a major downgrade even if i understand why they did it
They didn’t even refer to it by its proper name of “Gathers Under Night” though.
@@syoukoosanai8541 the character select screen is not the worst honestly, I give it a pass. I do like the immortalize theme at the beginning of the match 👌🏼 always have love for the original one too.
Awesome thing about TTT2 is you can change around the music for the character selection so you can mix and match every stage and menu
I can tell the editors have been cooking with this for a while, this is a quality video right here
Outstanding work!
This randomly popped up in my feed and I don't usually like long talking/reaction videos but these guys are hilarious
If there's no Melty Blood Actress Again in here, I'll be shot through the heart.
Edit: It was there and I was shot through the heart anyway lol
Steve: "I'm not here to dance, I'm here to fight!"
Also Steve: 30:14
I agree with Steve, Alpha 3's theme was fire. All the music in that game was fire.
I can’t believe he didn’t play Soul Caliibur 3’s character select theme. That one is very underrated. Also, Soul Calibur 5’s Online Character Select theme hits VERY HARD with the intensity.
Soul calibur 4s character select lives in my brain dude. It’s legendary
I agree! Soul Calibur 1 for the Dreamcast is also has an amazing sound that feels like you’re on a journey. It’s classic!
SC 2 and 3's select themes are neck and neck. They're both excellent.
Editing team props to you for adding to this already awesome moment! And now i want rate the music to be a thing! There’s so much music out there in the fighting game sphere!
Max’s finger snaps 🫰 ripples through musical dimensions
JUSTICE FOR MELTY BLOOD
3rd Strike's character select theme will always remain as one of the best, never fails to get you hyped and pumped.
This might just be the best edited video. They deserve a raise.
Love seeing Soul Calibur 2 getting a 10/10 the game that got me into fighting games for sure
I want rate the music to be a series
I had Tekken Tag 2's character select theme (Aim to Win) as my default ringtone back in the day.
26:36 - 27:00 . Everything about this was perfect.
i think this was the editor's attempt at asking for a raise, without asking for a raise.
It made my day
The definition of a wasted opportunity is Mortal freaking Kombat having the hypest music ever, Techno Syndrome, and never ever using it in any character select screen. It's absolutely perfect and should've been used in every MK after 1995 :D
Higher ups (Ed Boon?) are insane and think that tone of music is not fitting for the games.
Cant wait for part 2. This is amazing
So proud when Max led off the "bangers" with Soul Calibur 2
Max, this was by far one of the most fun videos you have made. Thank you.
I remember hearing the "Pillars of the underworld" theme the first time in a dmc3 combo video. I went nuts.
I think one character select theme that was missing was the DNF Duel theme. Its incredibly hype and yes, its recent, it has no legacy, but it is as good as any of the ones in this vid.
I second this. DNF Duel's character select music absolutely rips!
Dnf duel is one of the more chill arc sys songs but it has a much better flow than like dbfz does.
Linking made me drop my hitbox when i first heard it. The entire album is a banger.
ABSOLUTELY
DnF has 20 years of legacy. All the music is from the game DnF which has been the #1 grossing game worlwide since before WoW released, it's just not really known in the West.
I was waiting specifically for SSF4 and I'm so glad it got in. That theme holds a special place in my memories since it was the first fighting game I put hours into to really try getting better at.
That's amazing! So many memories...
Fatal Fury Character Select Theme is my ringtone. Yeah, I love it...lol
This video could've been 10 hours and wouldn't have been long enough. Genuinely, that hour went down in the span of 5 minutes. Loved it!
I think the first Killer Instinct game's character select screen music has this dark, almost gothic medieval build to it. It's very dark and serious. My personal favorite has gotta be Deadly Alliance.
For me Tekken Tag Tournament has the best character select music, as it might not be the best 'song' but it absolutely nails the fighting game essence by being upbeat and memorable
its THE css song imo
Tekken Tag has the BEST staff roll/ending music
@@devinc9omg yeah that song is fantastic
43:49. The Blazblue part got me so hard. HAHAHAHHAHAHAHHA! This editing is immaculate!
12:44 I remember Samurai showdown select screen/music so vividly. My dad had this on our wii and I would always try and do story mode but always get my butt kicked since I would just mash. This vid is the only one that could make me remember something so nostalgic!
Steeb's descriptions and analogies were on POINT.
Max definitely listed to Ska growing up. 25:53
The editing on this video is so good. Well done, Jorge.
