@@DasaltwarriorI believe he is talking about the last Killer Instinct motif he did called the “instinct farewell.” I believe it is in Shadow Jagos theme at the very very end, since that was the last song he did.
52:41 Speaking of Mick leaving to go and make DOOM 2016's legendary OST, you can hear just a snippet of THE MOST popular song from that soundtrack. BFG Division showed signs of life here, ready to emerge and unleash its true self just a few years later.
In Hold to Block's doc on the KI OST ("Composing Instinct"), Mick mentions that Cinder's theme specifically (both original and 2013) influenced the core of BFG Div with the 6/8 time sig.
The sabrewulf theme describes a scene of a mad scientist looking desperately for a cure to lycanthropy. The ticking clock tells the battle against time that he is losing, trying to kill the beast that lives within himself, tearing its way out, leaving a hungry monster, a savage form that lusts to the smell of fresh blood. Alone in the tower of a castle, his scream resonate to the glowin' moon, a howling that sends the town nearby down to shivers. Tonight they'll dine in hell.
I was at that PAX Australia panel with Mick Gordon back in 2013, it was incredible. I loved original KI and the og killer cuts CD; to hear Mick talk about his love of the games and the music was a treat. Dude's passion was infectious and got me more hype for the game than any trailer could have done.
This was such a good stream / Rate the Music session, and we get to know more of Max's backstory while working on some the Killer Instinct trailers. And most of the Killer Instinct music are BANGERS, Dood. Too bad Max didn't upload this on his channel. 😔
Cinder's theme is the GOAT of this game which makes sense cause his original theme was Mick's favorite so he probably put everything he had and then some into making it
Fun Fact about the Thunder character of KI: In Brazil there was some people who have the surnames "Machado" and "Trovão" that played him a lot. Mostly because "Machado" is a surname that translates as "Ax/Axe" and "Trovão" translates to "Thunder". Those surnames also had their origins as being given to the natives when they converted into Catholicism... So, if you meet someone from Brazil who got those surnames, the chances of them having native origin are very high. I also knew a dude that played KI and had BOTH surnames. Daniel Machado Trovão.
When I saw the remake of Super Mario Bros Z and Fulgore´s theme played, my internal 14 year old and my 23 year old just freaking ascended my guy. Truly peak. And I do love Spinal´s theme, the lyrics, the chorus, is such a great vibe for a spooky spooky skeleton. Cinder´s theme is just putting an egg to boil and a dinosaur comes out.
KI's OST is easily one of my favorite fighting game ost's from the last decade. So much love & care was put into the Original/New character's themes you can tell both Mick & Celldweller we're cooking
I love that of all the tracks Celldweller did, Kim Wu's is the one that feels the most like his regular music...and yet it's still got that KI feel. Probably part of why she's my main now.
Big fan of Jago's Theme, Hisako's Theme, Thunder's Theme, and Spinal's Theme, of course the Instinct as well. God all of them are bangers but those 5 are just insane.
There are good instruments, but the incorporation of traditional instruments and vocalizations in those elevates them to a different level, even Orchid's theme is a banger
Riptors theme grew on me a lot over the years. The blend of the Turok Jurassic orchestrals coupled with the Ultratech electronic elements are really amazing
I still absolutely love Riptor's theme. There are better mixes of it on RUclips that I prefer over the OST version, and it makes it one of my top five tracks. It's too bad Max didn't listen to one of those mixes instead. The Heavy Action and Danger Themes are awesome.
1:24:50 it's sad that he stopped about 30 seconds before the escalating and 50 seconds before the stormy reverbs... however, it's also true that the 30-second segment is too much a drag to listen to.
In all of season three you can really hear Celldweller's thumbprint the most in Kim-Wu and Gargos' themes. You can even hear a little Scandroid in Eyedol.
The grand and epic part at the end of Aganos' theme is probably the best piece of video game music I've heard, besides Bury The Light I can probably say this aboht KI's whole soundtrack, depending on the day
I think it's absolutely amazing that Max keeps saying he wants to get into King of Fighters more and Fatal Fury and most SNK stuff but hasn't done the deep dive into any of the themes. You can't mention legendary fighting game music and not mention the master class that is SNK sound team and all their efforts through the years. Hell what's most impressive is that most of the people that work on the music now at the company or the same people that were there through the bankruptcy years and back when they initially started and they're still there. You can't listen to the KOF 96 esaka arranged theme and tell me that that's not a master class and fighting game music. I'm not trying to dog on Max or anything I would just like to see him include or at least take the time to look at more of that music I especially when he says he wants to ingrain himself more in SNK stuff
Mick is the Metal Hans Zimmer. Change my mind. Also, the most epic ones are the ones that incorporate the original tunes. Just like the Main theme, Combo's theme, Cinder, Maya... But I miss some. Like the old Galcius and Sabrewulf theme. Hell, how epic was that? Omen's Gargos part should have a separate music theme. I want them Gordoned!
I really, REALLY love Jago's and Maya's, also Thunder's. Idk if there were original tunes but the way it incorporate traditional elements(chanting, throat singing) and still makes a banger
I feel like a lot of season 3 songs just don't hit the same without Mick's involvement. Kim Wu and Gargos are perfect, but for others... Tusk's doesn't feel like the early parts build up to the great climax. It needed chanting, warhorns and wardrums. Mira's was too much like a muddled mix of Sadira and Sabrewulf. I would have focused much more on the ORGAN since it's synonymous with vampires and can give a lot of depth and power to a song. For percussion I'd also add something like sounds of steel clashing and shlink-ing to sell the idea of her having silver blood and armlets. Heck, add sounds of meat chewing and blood draining, make it feel like you're being eaten by a covenant of vampires! Eyedol didn't need any changes in instrumentation but you know what would've made it peak? Utilizing mono and stereo sides. Left side instrumentation is the electric guitar, drums and heavier sounds, right side is the synths and then at the climax they combine and you can hear the whole thing in both ears. Cheesy, but that kinda fits Eyedol. I can't really speak on the guest characters since it's for the fans and has more restrictions on creative ideas.
Kilgore would work if it sounded like a jankier Fulgore theme. More stuttering, more chaotic, replacing synths and techno elements and going full industrial. Shin Hisako, I don't get as a character, but if she's meant to be like a saner, non-horror Hisako then maybe dropping the heavy metal elements would work? If Orchid can go full pop, then Shin H could be more like a pumpin' samurai theme, still some guitar in there but mostly the chants and the drums would work well I think. Eagle's is good as it is, a sadder Thunder theme, though I wish it had some twisted techno or synth elements to sell the idea that Eagle was transformed into a cybernetic horror.
My favorites will always be The Instinct Harold of Gargos Dragon Spirit Village of Whispers Inferno Temperance and Vengence Shattered Eyedol Back to Rise Champion of Sanghelios Touch Me and I’ll Break Your face Kim’s theme always had a special spot for me cause I wish they’d give that level of effort into a theme for Juri in sf6
I'm upset to not have a high comment with Herald of Gargos. Because that song is Fire. There are a lot of 10 out of 10s, and Omen/Shadow Jago easily deserve the recognition.
Herald of Gargos Back to Rise For the Horde Champion of Sanghelios Type 03 Inferno Warlord Ballet of Death A few others, but those are the ones I care to know the most off of the top of my head. I didn't give enough respect to Glacius' and Chief Thunder's, though.
If KI was a multi console game and Kratos stepped into the world of KI, Aganos's theme would be Kratos's theme instead As a BIG Halo fan, I was glad that they brought in Arby, The Swords Of Sanghelios Courtyard, and remixed the shit outta Impend (Arbiter's Halo 2 theme)
So many amazing themes man. Although, I don't think the judgment for kilgors theme was very fair. Especially considering how he accidentally stopped the track and skipped ahead some. One of my favorite themes of them all.
KI 2013 orchid, jago, cinder combo, eyedol, kim wu, thunder. KI 1 Glacius, killer groove and riptor were my favorites from the original soundtrack. 2013 Riptor was a HUUUUUGE let down vs the OG track. I thought it was a joke.
He was kinda harsh by giving Riptor's theme a 5/10 imo since some S3 tracks are less good than this lol. Even though it's not beating the OG KI1 Riptor theme & Mick Gordon had a lot of time constraints with this one, it still match perfectly the "Bloodthirsty Cyber Raptor is hunting your ass" kind of feel. Would of give it a 7 or an 8. The KI 2013 soundtrack is full of bangers and Fulgore, Thunder, Spinal, Hisako, Cinder & TJ Combo all deserves 11/10s.
The main heme and Cinders theme are the best. I do though prefer all other themes from the snes game though. Shame they couldnt have done a better job updating them
31:36 I'm biased about Maya's theme. I really liked the in-game version (the one Max is playing here) I really dislike the album version which has saturated electronic pulses, which butchers my ears.
