I agree with Max and Kenny wholeheartedly on Shenmue, that game absolutely is one of the best games for Dreamcast and even though I might have a slight bias/attachment to it since when I played through it for the first time I was going through a pretty rough time in my life and it helped me a lot through it, I think the game on it's own is genuinely really good and worth checking out to this day if you haven't tried it. The waiting and walking around and talking to people thing is not that bad at all since there's fun stuff you could do like gambling, arcade games, gachapon collecting, etc to break it up and once you find a way to progress that feeling's great. There's also a good amount of charm in this game, from the mostly funny English acting and the systems in play that were revolutionary and got me impressed like the fact you can pretty up open any drawer and closet (usually with no item to collet but it's still cool) and this game has more charm than most newer games (AAA speaking) that are coming out. The fighting, although a bit jank and maybe cumbersome to people who aren't used to Virtua Fighter or older Tekken but still a lot of fun, and the lack of it is not a bad thing really since you should just imagine this game as a early life sim adventure game in 1980s Japan really and enjoy the slow burn of the pacing. Also fighting is not what Shenmue 1 is about, that's more Shenmue 2. But Shenmue 2 does not have the vibes of Shenmue 1 since the areas are so big and then you go to a complete different place like halfway through so you don't get to soak in the environments for long. In Shenmue 1, the whole game takes place in one location even upon reaching the pier part of the game it still feels like one big area rather than split into two. Also the problem with Shenmue 2 you can get lost easily in Hong Kong and by the time you might've got used to your way around your sent to a different area, in Shenmue 1 it takes like an hour or less to know where everything is. Also it just feels great to walk around in Japan in any game, everything is so nice there even the cities feel like you just wanna be there at all times. Sorry, I love Shenmue so much, to anyone who took the time to read this mad man's rumblings, thanks. Also Sonic Adventure 2 for me is in the top 10, I still enjoyed the mech and treasure hunting stages (not all obviously) but it still has flaws like every Sonic game honestly despite being a pretty big fan of it but it's true (except MOSH) and I don't blame them or anyone for not having it in their top 10. Edit:ok I just watched more of the video and I’m taking a plane ride to Max’s house along with Lythero about Jet Set Radio
Sonic adventure dreamcast is actually top 10. Look I'm not the biggest sonic fan out there. But everyone i know always agrees the dreamcast version was superior. Hell there's a mod on the steam version or a website to make the entire game look like the Dreamcast version. Plus it was the game that sold the most with the console but i know that really doesn't count.
Sonic Adventure 1 might even be top 5. Liked it or not, it was both the best selling game on the system, and, well...its fucking Sonic, the only reason why is not #1 is because of how iconic Soul Calibur, Crazy Taxi, and PSO were.
I think the story is great and the gameplay is fun, but a ton of glitches and not all the gameplay may be great across the board, such as fishing or gem hunting. Also no 2 player. Top 20 for sure.
It’s very true with the amount of bugs are in the ports. I’ve never fell off the loop de loops but watching other streamers and game grumps playing the gc version or 360, dropping thru the floor. Also I like the chibi look to the models.
Regarding Shenmue, the criteria for it being a top 10 Dreamcast game, is that you had to experience it 20+ years ago. Back then, the whole game was an incredible, unforgettable experience, but it's very hard to recommend that someone play now. That is a tricky debate though, deciding which of those holds more significance.
As one who had a DreamCast, I salute these DOODS to attempt such a challenging list… (PowerStone, Grandia2, MvC2, RE CodeVeronica and Sonic Adventure 2 would be my top picks…) Edit: OH HELL NO THEY STRIKED OUT VIRTUAL-ON O.T.!!!

In the west it had a great launch lineup. Japan had theirs a year before that and only had 4 games on it and they mostly sucked. One year later and the US had about 20 games, all of which were cream of the crop. Midway had some issues with the discs not being pressed right or something so they had to immediately reissue games like Hydro Thunder and Ready 2 Rumble Boxing, but the games still sold well. Also for how short lived Dreamcast was in the west, it's library is mostly high quality. It does have some stinkers here n there, but they aren't ever mentioned in anyone's lists of games they think of when it comes to Dreamcast. Japan got a few extra years out of it and some exclusive fighters and the direct sequel to Shenmue, but that was it after that.
Soul Cal was a defining moment in the shift towards console from arcade, but PSO did something that no game had ever done on any platform. It was truly special.

@@randomcharacter6501It's good that Sega remembers that they have IP. I don't care if it's a remake, a remaster, or a port. I just want to play Skies of Arcadia without having to shell out money for a dreamcast/gamecube, the game, and without needing to sail the digital seas either.
An interesting idea for a video. This actually inspired me to make a tier list of some notable games I’ve played, and I’m working on an actual numbered ranked list.
Simmons argued that Sonic should be removed because the Gamecube version was better, but then said that wasn't something you could use to remove a game when it came to Skies of Arcadia. Totally not letting his bias get out of control.
People that say "Only the Sonic levels are good" in Sonic Adventure 2 are the same people that say that only the Ozzy albums in Black Sabbath are the good ones without listening to the DIO ones.
I like Sabbath with Ozzy and Dio, to be honest I even prefer the Dio albuns. And I can say with all honesty in my heart, when it comes to Sonic Adventure 2, only the Sonic/Shadow levels are good. Tails being stuck in a robot is a crime, and makes the game slow, repetitive and annoying, and Knuckles/Rouge stages are an abomination of game design.

Jet Set Radio & Sonic Adventure 2 have both had larger impacts than football/basketball 2k. People still talk about JSR and SA2, no one talks about ball games 2k. It's not like you're talking about Blitz or NFL/NBA Street. JSR deserves a top 10 spot for that Hideki Naganuma OST alone.

To see a chat bubble pop up from someone else, and you’re holding a controller and looking at a TV… my childhood brain imploded on itself. Good job lads
I think they should be considered Dreamcast first not just because that was the console they released on before GameCube, but also because they were made in-house by Sega themselves. Sonic Team is part of Sega so that's why I count that. GameCube got better ports, sure. But that's like PSO getting more content on GameCube so you gotta include that too.
To be honest, it’s really hard to choose which Dreamcast games are the best because a lot of them were WAY ahead of its time. One of my all time favorite games is MvsC2 and CvsSNK2 for the Dreamcast because it was the first time that a game console version had the same quality as the arcade. Also Jet Set Radio should be on the top of that list.
I will always put my hat in for SA1 being better than 2. I love both but playing both recently SA2 has so much more BS in in than I remember lol All that said the Dreamcast had such a wild library of games lol. So many bangers and just as many "wtf is this?" and I love all of them haha

Edit:ok I just watched more of the video and I’m taking a plane ride to Max’s house along with Lythero about Jet Set Radio
for Kenny and Max trying to get Skies out while not even playing it is wild. They do not know how much of a good game that is.
Hot take. Skies > FF7
@@Kuro_Tama I’m with you there!
@@Kuro_Tama not a hot take, Skies is top 5 JRPGs of all time.
While Simmons is trying to scratch off shenmue and Max's only defence is the vibes and ambition.
19:58 How appropriate having an animation from Violet in a video discussing Dreamcast games.
No I had a dream cast jet set radio is both above them
Soul Calibur, Crazy Taxi, and Sonic Adventure are all tied as early system sellers imo. Ready 2 Rumble maybe but that was multiplatform.
Of Course Simmons is Biased. He is the main RPG lover compared to Kenny and Max. Skies definitely should be in the top 5
Do more of these. Please this is my 3rd time watching this lol so many good points from all sides
As one who had a DreamCast, I salute these DOODS to attempt such a challenging list…
(PowerStone, Grandia2, MvC2, RE CodeVeronica and Sonic Adventure 2 would be my top picks…)
Edit: OH HELL NO THEY STRIKED OUT VIRTUAL-ON O.T.!!!
It needs the twin stick.
Power Stone 2 should have been MUCH higher on that list. That's gotta be top 3 EASY!!
Y’all need to do a list on top 10 GameCube games now.
Melee’s placement would make the comment section implode, regardless of what it is
@@bulb9970 don’t forget resident evil 4
Skies was the last game I ever did promotional art for... I would do canvases for Babbages and Electronic Boutique... I miss doing that stuff...
Cool! Where is the art? I wanna see it
@@Sonicfalcon16 Unfortunately, those are GONE... Those were on-site commissions, and when I went back for them, employees had taken them and nobody would admit who did it... After that, I took photos of my stuff and I'd do the canvases but only hang prints of them... I did get a ton of free Sega stuff for the hassle though... But it was the last time I ever did store type promotions work...
I hope they make more of these, this is the second one i watched today and was just as good as the first one
Dreamcast definitely had the best launch lineup of any console so far
I’m not a gamer but I love the passion and insight they give. It’s infectious and fun. Please keep these up. I also get history lessons along the way
Just imagine how long and intense the PS1 and PS2 version of this video will be when they turn 30 and 25, respectively, next year.
Multiple parts
I would definitely add Unreal Tournament in that list .
That's for PC.
JUSTICE FOR JET SET RADIO
100%
Project Justice? 😂
Soul Cal was a defining moment in the shift towards console from arcade, but PSO did something that no game had ever done on any platform. It was truly special.
the great shenmue argument of 2024
I just loved the Top 10 series. You guys need to come up with more of these!
Take “definitive” with the earth’s supply of salt whenever any of the YVG crew make a list.
Bro you don't come to Yovideogames for serious opinions, you come for the fun and hilarity of it all XDD
Having discussions like this with my best mate is one of my favourite things to do. Passionate, shouting, but from a place of love in a healthy relationship.
This was super entertaining!
I never had a Sega console, but even I know that some of the Dreamcast games were some of the best EVER. Some of these NEED a rerelease, especially SC1 and Skies of Arcadia
The craziest part is, most of those games were released in the span of 12 months.
In the year 2000, the Dreamcast was getting hit after hit.
Sega is remaking a lot of the DC classics
@@randomcharacter6501It's good that Sega remembers that they have IP. I don't care if it's a remake, a remaster, or a port. I just want to play Skies of Arcadia without having to shell out money for a dreamcast/gamecube, the game, and without needing to sail the digital seas either.
I think PowerStone 2 is the most GOATED arcade fighter ever made and I STILL break out my dreamcast to play it every now and then
An interesting idea for a video. This actually inspired me to make a tier list of some notable games I’ve played, and I’m working on an actual numbered ranked list.
23:40 The editor really out did themself. Lmao xD
Well, Space Chennel 5 is definitely a top 10 game
Simmons argued that Sonic should be removed because the Gamecube version was better, but then said that wasn't something you could use to remove a game when it came to Skies of Arcadia. Totally not letting his bias get out of control.
we absolutely need more of these ranking videos, this was really fun to watch.
People that say "Only the Sonic levels are good" in Sonic Adventure 2 are the same people that say that only the Ozzy albums in Black Sabbath are the good ones without listening to the DIO ones.
this is the most random comparison but 100% makes sense lololol
Except from when the game gets dickish with the Knuckles/Rouge levels (hiding all shards in the worst possible places) I love all gameplay styles.
@@txcforevercorrect 💯
I like Sabbath with Ozzy and Dio, to be honest I even prefer the Dio albuns. And I can say with all honesty in my heart, when it comes to Sonic Adventure 2, only the Sonic/Shadow levels are good. Tails being stuck in a robot is a crime, and makes the game slow, repetitive and annoying, and Knuckles/Rouge stages are an abomination of game design.
Even the Tony Martin albums are kinda cool, but people pretend they don't even exist
Jet Set Radio DESERVES to be on the list. WHATTTT?
Also, where's Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2, and Resident Evil: Code Veronica?
I thought Orta was an Xbox exclusive?
@@thirdstrikerMAB Oh shit, youre right! My bad
Soul Calibur is not only top 3 Dreamcast but imo it's top 3 launch games of all time.
Jet set radio literally kept the system alive when competing with ps2. I can’t agree with that one being off lol
The sequel on XBOX is so much smoother though!
@@MacUser2-il2cx It is a better game, but I think the first game was a tighter experience, It was a game that you wanted to do everything in one smooth run and go for the best possible score. Sequel was a more chill experience.
you know its gonna be a video when the Yo videogame gang looks like they are about to murder eachother
Soul Calibur was a system seller; but PSO was a revolution for console players.
Thanks for making this! It really brought me back memory lane. Dreamcast was the first console i bought as a kid. So many great games!
It still BLOWS MY MIND that Max has never played Skies. I just finished a playthrough again two weeks ago and had just as much fun as ever.
I really enjoyed this video. It reminded me of the discussions and rankings we used to make with friends in school. The editing was fantastic!!
Justice for Jet Set Radio
I want Justice for Sonic Adventure 2.
I watch this debate of the top Dreamcast games that Max, Kenny and Simmons did was fun entertainment. 2:23 let the debate rage being.
2:56) Max Vs Simmons: Samba De Amigo
3:50) Simmons Vs Kenny: Sonic Adventures 2
4:46) Max Vs Simmons II: Cyber Troopers: Virtual On
5:40) Kenny & Max Vs Simmons: Shenmue
9:37) Simmons Vs Max & Kenny II: Dead or Alive 2
13:25) Max Vs Simmons III: Quake 3
14:48) Max Vs Kenny: Rush 2049
17:09) Simmons Vs Max & Kenny III: Virtual Tennis
19:32) Max, Kenny & Simmons Vs Jet set radio
20:11) Kenny & Simmons Vs Max: NFL 2K/NFL BLITZ
23:39) Max Vs Simmons IV: Space Channel 5
24:58) Max & Simmons Vs Kenny: Power Stone 2
30:19) Max & Kenny Vs Simmons IV: Capcom Vs SNK 2
32:55) Max Vs Simmons V: Skies of Arcadia
37:05 And here it is the 10 best games of the Dreamcast, but only one will be crowned as the 👑.
This was Max&Kenny vs Simmons
This video solidified my hatred towards Kenny. Keep him away from video games
EDIT: Soul Calibur is the best fighting game on the console
@@JonathanDoryski It is truly not that deep
@@JonathanDoryski Kenny? Simmons was the unreasonable one here as always
@@HadesoftheEast let him get his hate out
I was about to say how dare you not place the FIRST online console rpg at the number one. Those of us that experienced that realize that NOTHING will be that special (gaming wise) again. To see a chat bubble pop up from someone else, and you’re holding a controller and looking at a TV… my childhood brain imploded on itself.
Good job lads
Simmons kicks out Sonic Adventure 2 for having a better version on Gamecube, but Skies of Arcadia does as well.
Skies of Arcadia is my favorite game of all time. Still hoping for that remaster....
I love the interaction between all 3 of you guys! I have the same arguments with my friends about the top DC games.
Spoiler alert:
Sonic shuffle isn't there
I still like Sonic Shuffle more than any Mario Party game, but I was not surprised to see it ignored here. lol
I appreciate the editor putting Katana zero music in the video, also the jsr elimination hurt me but it’s understandable
Quake 3 arena was the first online console game I played.
I love the edit, vibe, chemistry, and the love y’all put in these videos. I need more videos like this💯
bro I loved that jet set radio part lol
Need a giant whiteboard with magnetic labels with the names on it to shuffle titles around
Kenny is such a jojo character, a true diva
I love that guy
I'm glad Shenmue's ambition and vibes are recognized 🙌
Can't believe I just watched 47 minutes of pure entertainment in one sit. Didn't expected that when I click the video. 😂
It's insane how many good games came out for this thing in the span of only 18 months. We will NEVER see anything like that ever again.
A debate among friends on what are the top 10 Dreamcast games of all time… What could go wrong?
Needs more Dynamite Cop & Zombie Revenge imo
They dont know bout that zombie revenge!!! fucking love that game lol
Zombie revende >>>> Shenmue
Came here to say this. 💯
Tough gig! Wonderful display of passion. The editing is excellent.
So painful. It’s like choosing which kid is your favorite. not seeing zombie revenge on here hurts the soul
Dynamite Cop is fun too.
Everybody knows who their favorite kid is tho
This is easily one of my favorite videos you guys have put together. Well done everyone.
I will always put my hat in for SA1 being better than 2. I love both but playing both recently SA2 has so much more BS in in than I remember lol
All that said the Dreamcast had such a wild library of games lol. So many bangers and just as many "wtf is this?" and I love all of them haha
SA1 imo is a better play once game, SA2 had better replayability
both SA games are equal to me. They form two halves of a whole the same way both N64 Zelda games do.
Cant believe they picked a yakuza dead souls song for credits
Jet set loses to tennis IS WILD
Having only played the Dreamcast version recently, SA1 is definitely a top ten for me. Much less jank than the DX releases, thank god for the Dreamcast conversion mod for the pc version. Jet Set and Rayman 2 are neck and neck for top one
I need a Max Yakuza 0 playthrough in my life man.. also i know about the 2015 vids
i never owned powerstone 2 growing up... im so happy powerstone 2 will be available to be played online in capcom fighers collection next year
This was amazing to watch live on stream.
It was just as amazing to watch again here with the brilliant edits.
But overall, what this entire experience said to me is simply one thing:
I need to find my Dreamcast and all of these games and play them all again LOL
It is a bit cold taking out SA2 so early, like a lot of people say its the best sonic game, so you're basically taking down the entire franchise.
