Last night my kitchen double sink clogged. Plunged it on and off for hours. Gave up, went to bed. This morning, dressed to run to store for chemicals but decided to check videos first. Your 3 min video was it!
It was difficult (70 yr old female) to hold down one side while plumbing the other, but IT WORKED after 3 tries!!! I don't know if you're still around online, but I owe you a BIG THANK YOU!! So,,THANK YOU!!!!!!!
I hope all is well in your life.

      Congrats on the repair!
You still have it going on regardless of age!
I stay away from chemicals completely. They are hard on both the environment and your lungs. Always a way to do it without the chemicals. Glad it went well for you!

      Hello ShortJay,
      Great job on the repair!
never be afraid of mom if you are doing dishes and something like this happens. Things like that happen all the time. I am sure she would understand.
I would tell her that you made the repair. I am sure she would be very proud of you.

Yeah..the fact it was blocked when you just happened to be doing dishes proves that it had been getting worse over a period of time while your mum was using the kitchen. You've done her a huge favour. Well done. Next time it happens to her you can show her.

I am so thankful to you! This worked exactly as you called it. I was plunging and plunging without applying the plug to the disposal side. I was frustrated and ready to give up. Actually I gave up until I saw several videos. Your video was the easiest to understand and follow. I had to chime in and express my appreciation for your channel.

Spot on! Sink has been blocked repeatedly for months and for the past 3 days, it got much worse. I don't pour oil or food debris down the sink but I am in rental accommodation so probably a pre-existing condition... Poured lots of different chemicals and natural baking soda/vinegar potions with little improvements over the past few months. Just tried your method and it worked to unclog it after just 3 pull. I found that the water in the sink forms a seal around the plunger and it goes down by itself so no need to push it down, just pull. I could hear the blockage clear and the smell was a big clue!!! Then the water flowed. Perfect! Thanks so much for sharing :-D

Plugging the other compartment of the sink makes all the difference in the world when it comes to using the plunger to clear the drain.
Having water in the sink definitely helps the plunger work better.
I stay away from chemicals altogether. they can not only cause problems for the environment, but can cause serious burns to people who use them. I have seen them happen to homeowners a number of times. They are nothing to play around with.

THANK YOU!!! This worked perfectly!! My mom was panicking because the garbage disposal wasn't draining. We were able to get the disposal reset, but the water won't drain. She pulled up a video of a woman that showed how to disconnect the water line and pull the clog out by hand. I found your video on u tube and told her to watch it. She ran to wal-greens and got a plunger. I plunged the sink and it worked just as you demonstrated in your video. Now she does not have to hear my dad telling her , "I told you not to put to much stuff in it." Thanks again!!

Little tricks of the trade like plugging the other side of the sink makes all the difference in the

Thank you, sir! This worked well.
Anyone who wants to do this keep in mind that you are applying pressure to the pipes below. If it is a really severe clog, you may want someone to hold the bottom pipe in place so that the pipe leading to the sink doesn't fall out.
Also, you should plunge half way then bring the plunger back to starting position on the first few plunges. It helps loosen up the stuff in there.
In other words do not go whole hog like you are plunging a toilet or you may end up with a bigger problem than you started out with.

Thanks for the video. I usually peel my veggies into sink, then scoop them into trash. I got lazy yesterday and put things down the disposal that I usually don't (onion peels and egg shells.) The disposal side of the sink plugged up, and your tips worked great. The store only had the bell type and an accordion type plunger. The accordion worked. So glad I did not have to take the pipes apart, snake or call plumber. Thanks again.

      Congrats on the repair!
Generally with a sink if the plunger doesn't work; then grease has taken over the piping and you need an auger to clear the lines. Most sink drains can be cleared with a plunger.
Allowing as little as possible an amount of grease down the sink will ensure you have no big issues with the drain in the future.

Hello @@TheOldkid888 IT WORKED! It was a EUREKA moment... Literally! Tell you the truth, I've had a challenging day...Friday evening, While preparing for a religious get together for about 40-invitees at my home, I discovered (totally accidentally) that my water heater tank gave out, and was leaking... fortunately a slow trickle, but regardless, a major headache and expense. Then three hours later as my wife is doing the dishes, and the kitchen sink suddenly backed up. Using plunger by itself was no help; in fact, the water continued to back up even more with each run of garburator. A little while later, my son used Liquid Plumer without my knowledge based on my wife's instructions, again to no avail.
Then running between the basement & the kitchen, and trying to contact a handyman and/or a plumber was proving to be even a bigger challenge at around almost 10:00 PM at night (on Friday). Thought of RUclips and after a wild search, I ended up on your channel; and decided to give it a try based on your demo video. As you instructed, plugged up the right sink with a towel and used the (only available) small-mouthed (for the lack-of-better words) plunger (not the kind that you suggested though) to drain the left sink. However, it was not going down, although, the right sink was bubbling up with each push of the plunger.
Little frustrated, I walked away for about five minutes. Apparently, then it suddenly occurred to me to turn on the garburator while using the plunger; and voila, with a couple of gentle pushes of the plunger, down went the water through the drain from both the sinks. And it has stayed that way so far. A great deal of relief for all of us, especially, my wife for the Saturday morning planned religious activity.
The next morning, our hired help made a great adjustment despite lack of running hot water. Using the old fashioned way of heating up the water in a pan to make do with major dish washing chore on the day of the religious function.
So, Kudos to her and a BIG KUDOS to YOU SIR! One down, or I should say, DONE (the kitchen sink) and one to go (the water heater)!
An absolutely amazing, awesome, and a no-cost practical tip! Worked for me, and it will be a lesson learned for LIFE.
      FOREVER GRATEFUL! 👍👍👏👏👏

      Hello dhapumdhap,
I am really glad to hear everything worked out with sink issue. You can also use this same method for the basin and bathtub. Simply plug the overflow and use the plunger on the drain. I use two plungers on the tub (one on the drain and one to cover the overflow) although a wet rag will work to seal the overflow on the tub.
I never use chemicals on drain lines. Not good for the environment and can cause bigger issues such as getting an acid burn should you have to take the drain apart. And they are not great to inhale.
Generally all drains can be cleared with the proper mechanical equipment such a plunger of auger.
Nothing better then going back to basics such as heating water on the stove to make us appreciate how lucky we are to turn on the tap and get hot water.
Thanks for commenting and enjoy your week! Al

Great video Al !! The one thing that keeps me from using chemicals in other homes is not knowing if they have used them before calling. Two chemicals of different makeups can lead to fatal consequences when they meet. The plunger is very effective in most cases and is not too hard to do. As you, just not a fan of chemicals. Take care, Brett

      Hello Hector;
Just like the overflow of a sink or bathtub; a double sink has to have one side plugged while plunging it.
This allows the force and suction of the plunger to do its job!

      Hello MsLyrics16,
      You're welcome!
Glad everything worked out for you! Congrats on the repair!
It may have not been the grease that you poured down, but the grease that was poured down over a period of time. Generally a plunger will not work on a plugged line that is full of grease. It may have been some debris built up in the trap under the sink and the plunger loosened the debris and moved it along. Rice and meat guilty for causing this to happen often.
That being said...You never want to pour grease down a drain. It builds up against the pipe walls and can become plugged very quickly.
I am not a fan of chemicals myself. What most people do first is they pour the chemicals down the drain and wait a little bit to see what happens. If nothing takes place then you end up working on a drain that is full of acids and can cause serious problems to the person working on the drain line. There is generally a much better way to clear a plugged drain then to use chemicals.
Thanks for commenting and enjoy your day! Al
P.S. Mention to mom that there are bigger things in life to lose sleep over. Material things can be replaced or fixed.
Lifes to short to worry about those kinds of things.

      Hello Tasha,
      You're more than welcome!
The very last thing you want to do is get into chemicals. If for some reason you can't get the drain clear with a plunger or small snake; you have to deal with the chemicals that you put in the drain. They are generally very toxic.
Congrats on the repair. Thumbs up!
There is probably very little that you can't do if you put your mind to it.

THANK YOU! I'm not handy at all and my kitchen sink seemed to be hopelessly clogged with about 4" of standing water in both sinks. I was ready to either try chemicals (thanks for the warning) or call a plumber (big $). Instead, I poured in a second round of baking soda + vinegar and let it bubble for about 15 minutes. Then I used the plunger correctly, as you demonstrated. After about 6 tries with the plunger NO MORE CLOGGED DRAIN! Thanks again! 😊

You want to stay away from the chemicals at all cost. I heard of some pretty bad burns that people have received over the years from chemicals in the water.
I stick to plungers or augers myself. They do the trick every time. Sometimes it takes a little more effort, but the job always gets done.

Thank you so much, when I came to my moms her kitchen sink was clogged, it worked really good but it was nasty and had to do it for a few minutes.

Thank you for your help in this video I tried it to unclog my sink and it worked great it took a few times to get suction but it worked 👍 I tried Drano but that was a waste of money. Your advice was great 👏 absolutely right

      You're more than welcome!
I am glad that everything worked out for you and congrats on the repair!
I try and stay away from chemicals. They are hard on the environment and can also cause trouble if you should have to cut the drain out.

I am glad it worked out for you! Congrats!
I stay away from chemicals myself. To many problems can occur when using them besides being bad for the environment.
Always manual ways to clear a drain as you now know!

Plugging the other side is a must in order to apply pressure to the drain with the plunger!

THANK YOU!!!!!! You likely saved me a ton of money. I happen to KNOW that 'under my kitchen sink' doesn't look quite right. And I noted that all the joints are 'glued'; so there isn't any 'removing' a 'p' trap easily. So it was either pay a plumber a ton of money or try plunging it. I wasn't sure if plunging was going to work...but went back to give it another try after your video...and Baddaboom...baddabang...water is going down once again. I felt such a sense of relief and great joy that this old lady fixed my stopped up kitchen sink. LOL You are going to put Rotor Rooter out of business!
