My daily beater watch for several years now has been the Casio Duro. This past summer I finally had a fresh battery installed( the original was still working) and had it pressure tested along with my other dive watches. The watch maker said the Duro looked perfectly fine. Yes I could have just bought another Duro instead of servicing this one, but I have a lot of wrist time and memories with it so I’m glad did.
The Garmin is probably the ultimate everyday watch, at least if you do any sports and want to track performance metrics.
I have a Garmin Instinct Tactical, and it's very much like a G-Shock with better features, but with none of the usual smartwatch distractions. It's the perfect middle ground.
I agree with the G-Shock 'Casioak' but would choose the GA-B2100-1 AER for the Bluetooth, Solar, and Positive Display. Comfortable to wear as a daily without worrying about knocks, water etc. Any minor scratches to the crystal can be sorted with Polywatch and a soft cloth. The Garmin is far too complicated for the average beater watch. The Casio has it for me.
I also used it and I added tempered glass and a bull bar on top. Over powered😂
id go even further and say the mudmaster been wearing it for 5 years and other than the metal buckle no scratches.
After so much struggles I now own a new house and my family is happy once again everything is finally falling into place!!
@axelbrooks7533 The economic hardship, recession, unemployment and the loss of job caused by covid pandemic is enough to push people into financial ventures.
@Markleo237 Ok, I'd love connect Christine Wright Nese, how do I do that please??
My current beater is the Citizen Titanium ProMaster. Light weight, 200m, solar powered,
A beater is not something you have to charge up, i wore a Seiko SKX007J for 12 years, and it went through everything i did and came out the other side…..battered but unbowed, when it finally died, i sold it on eBay, for £120…….£10 less than i paid for it originally 😂
Now That’s a beater watch
Should have framed it and put it on the wall
Not here to judge but that poor watch got dumped after serving you for 12 years 😢
Sad to see a vital member of the team, dumped like that. To me watches are a companion, that accompanies our journey. They serve, and once they start to creak, they get a respectful retirement. My oldest watch, is a Rado diastar. The ETA still chugs along. Never been serviced but it still shows COSC levels of accuracy. It looks like nothing else in a 70's way, it's ceramic case is unmarked, and people regularly give it a compliment. What a watch.
My favorite beater is the G-Shock 5610U. All the goodness of the OG-Shock, plus a radio time hack & Tough Solar. The one thing I don’t care for is the LED; the old EL light was much softer on the eyes at night.
100% agreed - I regret selling my EL version - I have the LED version now and you’re right - the EL version is far easier on the eyes
I have it and it's so cool I'm just afraid to wear and tear it! Just ordered this CasiOak to add to the "collection"
At least the LED can shine long enough so I can actually read the time. :D
@@vlajster Don't worry, it's a G-shock. I've worn it through all kinds of stuff and not a mark.
@@vaclav_fejt That’s the truth! There are no problems with reading the time at all.
A former german soldier that is now fighting for the Ukraine said in an interview that they are not allowed to carry phones in the field, as they might be tracked by the enemy. I'm afraid there goes the "Tactical" in the Garmin...
My best beater watch is a mechanical, handwound Sinn Chronograph with the mighty Valjoux 7760. Meaty Hesalite on top doesn't crack, 100m water resistance, and silly me even dropped it several times on the bathroom floor without any issues due to the lack of a heavy oscillating weight. Also did roughly 200k miles on motorcycles (often offroad) and about 50k miles of mountain biking. Three services so far, crystal still original. ❤
Yeah, nothing that is GPS is allowed in "real" missions/operations. Huge tracking risk.
The best beater is actually another Casio, the MRW-200H. It's not as robust as the G-Shock, but it's so cheap that you can buy 10 of them, and just throw one away if you break it. And it has the only feature you really need: It shows what time it is. 😉 (Well, actually it shows the date and week day as well, but who cares...)
I’ve got one of these & it’s a great watch!
I have one I call the Hockey Puck. It has blue hands and numbers. SEXY!🙃
Also has a quality most underrated in a work watch. It weighs nothing.
I got a Garmin Forerunner 255 about a month ago to help train for a half marathon and have been wearing it on one wrist with a mechanical watch on the other. With how much it has genuinely helped my training I know have to chuckle every time someone calls a (insert luxury mechanical watch) a tool watch in 2024. I still consider myself a watch enthusiast and have other mechanical watch purchases planned, but it does make me realize how ridiculous this hobby can be at times
The same way that someone will call a $30k piece of wrist jewelry a “sports watch” as if they wear it while running back and forth playing football or running a marathon 😂
Not going to lie, the 37 day battery reserve is what sold it for me, my big issue with most smartwatches is that you need to recharge it, but with 37 days of battery life it's no different from someone with a automatic watch who has a auto rotor and doesn't move around much
@@thelogicmatrixthat is pretty crazy on the top end one he quoted in the video, although using the GPS does drain it significantly faster. I get about a week out of my much cheaper 255 with running 15-20 miles per week on GPS
Cheaper Garmins like entry level forerunner are some of the best beater and toolwatches money can buy. We all love watches designed like toolwatches of the past, but when you really need useful functionalities, these Garmins are great.
I recently got a forerunner 255 over Black Friday and have been wearing a mechanical watch on my left wrist and Garmin on my right to help me train for an upcoming half marathon (hopefully a full marathon eventually). Honestly it has made me realize how silly it is to call a submariner (or insert luxury mechanical watch) a “tool watch” in 2024
@@ajgross67 Yeah true, for those into running, cycling or swimming for example it's the ideal beater/toolwatch. I have the 245 with its GPS and its connectivity with sport apps like Strava, it's really the perfect companion. And the autonomy makes it not to annoying to manage on a daily basis. But I don't have any emotional connection with it. So as soon as my sport activities are over, I put back something I like on my wrist ;)
I took my Tag Heuer Professional everywhere in the early 2000’s. By everywhere it went rock climbing, ice climbing, kayaking, mountain biking and other general mayhem. During that time I separated my collar bone, dislocated 3 fingers with avulsion fractures, impaled my thigh with a tree branch and suffered two skiing related concussions. I relive those traumas whenever I fiddle with the poor beat up bezel.
Wow Chiller you have been battered over that time,, i hope your keeping well now. I have 4 Tag Heuer watches they are of great quality and brilliant time keepers 👍 Au
My first “nice” watch was a TAG Heuer 2000 auto that I bought new in ‘04. It was my only watch for a while & it wears its scars proudly like I do! It’s been a great watch & I still wear it occasionally.
That watch had a sturdy Beater Human
I wont be alive long enough to figure out how to fully operate the Garmin. Give me a Gshock!
I think the Casio W800H-1AV . For twenty bucks it does it all for ten years.
To me a beater watch is going to work well. Cost little and does not draw attention and will not make me cry if I bust it up.
A Beater watch in my opinion is a watch that if you break it doing rough activities you can replace it easily. A watch that is as expensive as the garmin is nice but not a beater.
Casio and Timex own this category.. basic shocks , euro and Ironman watches for the win
I'm going to say Timex Ironman 30 lap. Smaller than a Gshock but with a bigger screen, easier to push buttons and a great backlight. At $30-$40 it has a lot you'd struggle to find on most other Casios/Gshocks close to that price, like 3 alarms, annual/monthly reminders, 72 hour timer and repeating countdown alarm.
I purchased a Seiko Chronometer 6138-0011 in Hong Kong September 1976 and it's still beating 47 + years later, it has always been worn and treated with respect almost daily, and the only repair so far is the two push buttons and body seal replaced recently. With no service so far as the jeweler replacing the seals stated it was still in wonderful clean condition inside. This watch is a credit to Seiko, to keep running all these years still keeping good time. I must add this watch is still in Mint condition for its age 👍Au
A $1,000 "beater" that an astronaut wouldn't even be able to figure out how to use? C'mon Andrew!
I left at £960 for the Garmin.
you can get one for 300 with pretty much identical features but in a resin case.
My Submariner No Date took a beating for five years. Rarely took it off.
It endured regular recoil from a Barrett 50cal rifle and lesser calibres.
On weekdays it suffered the harsh and abrasive environment of busy construction sites.
After having it serviced, it was returned to me in nearly new condition, apart from the clasp, that took a lot of heavy knocks .
But everything worked perfectly and still does.
Now I’m afraid to wear it for fear of scratching it!!
The ballistics calculator is an awesome device to have on your wrist.
I have a bust down G Shock but every time I bang it on corners my heart absolutely drops 😭😭😭
I honestly have both. The garmin is massive, so I only wear it for trekking in the wilderness and training. The battery life really depends on what data you are tracking. The more data you track, the less battery life you have, but you can go low power mode and get 70 plus days of it. All that to say..... I wear the g shock more. The garmin is like cleats. I put it on for the sport and take it off right after.
The video should end with a GShock, in fact it should only contain few different model of GShock and nothing else. Recently I replace the battery of my GT-001 which I didn't wear for more than 20 years, and it's still working fine. $900 Garmin is a joke, nice try selling us the gadget.
Surely the Garmin Instinct Solar Tactical would be the best beater watch? Does a lot of what the tactix does, has an invincible plastic body like a G-Shock - and has a literally unlimited battery life with enough time in the sun!
Also only costs a few hundred dollars!
Plus Garmins last forever. People still run with ancient models!
I had my suunto vector allblack for a long time. Worn it every day since I first bought it after having it recommended by someone I was serving with. Ideal military watch but my plain standard cheap as chips casio is another favourite of mine. One battery lasts for near 10 years lol its the equivalent of a Nokia 3310 phone if anyone remembers them. Bombproof and keeps on going even after being accidentally put in the washing machine etc
The Garmin is a 51 mm hockey puck. No thanks. My true beater for when it might get damaged is a 30+ year old Timex Ironman.
you have 38mm garmins too and way cheaper variants.
For me, it is the Casio PROTREK PRG 510T. Never needs to be wound or charged. Mine has been running for over ten years with a battery change.
CWC GS Sapphire - 200M water resistance, fixed spring bars, Sapphire crystal (it’s in the name), 8-10 year battery life
The only watch to survive the daily sauna spa hydropool challenge is a Casio F91W. A Lorus lasted 2 years, but sad to say G Shocks don't like doing it Finland style. Two have failed badly, needing a dry out and re-seal. But it is a truly extreme test. Strangely a Casio Edifice, with a screw down case and crown did really well, but got "saved" after 6 months because I felt guilty.
The touch screen is the line. Smart watches are not beaters no matter how cool they are. Digital analog whatever, but a touch screen and software updates is an entirely different conversation and spirit from the question proposed. Shame on you, you know better.
Casio A158w , the price to utility ratio is insane
Tom wins! G shock have low price and very tough. The 5610 is my choice, tough solar and multi band 6 make it extremely convenient and I only paid £75 on offer at argos. Bargain.
Garmin user since starting running in 2019. My Forerunner 235 survived multiple cycle accidents and has the scars to prove it. Since then I've also used the Instinct v1 (really good watch, that is) but got a great deal on the discontinued v1 Enduro which has ridiculous 50-day battery life. I still kind of prefer the Instint in many ways, and the Enduro is a huge lump, but I love the functionality.
Previous beater watch to that was a Seiko 5 in the 2010s after my 00s daily wearer gave up. That one was a mid-70s Rolex Oysterdate. It took a huge amount of abuse so I have a lot of respect for Rolex's engineering! I had it fully serviced & repaired last year and it's enjoying a more relaxed retirement now.
Casio Duro is my favorite beater - only thing missing from being perfect is electroluminescence
Do check out the Marathon Navigator now out in stainless steel. Screw down crown (10ATM) and sapphire glass + tritium lume. A light, slender and easy wear..
The ga2100 has been my go to watch especially recently. I’ve been wearing it more than my Rolex , Tudor and omega watches. Something about it just gets me excited.
I'm literally wearing my Shocktagon right now!
I want to hate the Garmin. I'm not particularly fond of Garmin products in general, and while I don't oppose the use of smart watches, I find a lot of the features kind of silly. However, one of my biggest criteria when evaluating a watch for me to wear is how it looks. I like the looks of that Garmin watch.
For me, a beater watch is one that is really cheap and easy to replace, and for the last few years my beater has been the Casio AQ-S810W. Ani-digi, (tough) solar, alarms, stopwatch, 100m WR, world time, lume and a light, and I got mine for about $30. Its also super light (because its cheap) and thin (because quartz), and if I do ever kill it, very easy to pick up a new one.
Breaking News: Watchfinder recommended a smart watch; Next: Rolex collaborates with a smartphone company
I have a Garmin Fenix 5S and it really is superb, these comments are too harsh. It rarely needs to be charged, always has actually time and is seemingly invincible. Another good beater that I've worn for many years through road construction is a citizen eco-drive, the thing just doesn't give up!
Hard to beat a Casio F-91W in terms of price and durability. It's not a looker, but it's a great beater watch for less than $25.
Plus the Garmin can be hacked so your opponent can locate and track you. 😕
Nope, not live anyway as you can disable it's connection features. However you must make sure that you don't upload any of your tracking data!
I bought my Casioak GA2100AER brand new from H.Samuels in September 2022 for £61. Amazing value and a true beater watch ..My other go to beaters are a Seiko SKX009 and a Steeldive SD1970 Captain Willard homage. Tbh i wear the Steeldive and Casioak far more than the SKX now since Seiko disco'd it and replaced with the inferior and more costly Seiko 5 Dive watch...
Funnily the Garmin makes me wonder .. the Speedmaster and Bulova Lunar Pilot are iconic 'been on the moon' watches .. will the next watch that goes to the Moon or Mars be a smart watch??? Will that then achieve the same status?
Nope, wouldn't be able to go EVA. Temperatures way too extreme for these electronic and batteries.
Tks for you vídeo. I’m thinking in buy a gshock 2100, the solar and Bluetooth version, do you think it worth the price difference? Tks
"I don't even know I'm wearing it!" My GA2100-4A CasiOak is bright red, it's impossible not to realize it. 😂
The Garmin is also able to show your blood glucose level (with a prescription-only CGM) which is awesome if you are diabetic. That said, my daily beater is either an Apple watch or a cheap Seiko with a band that costs 3x the watch's value....
You’re all wrong, the best beater watch is the one you don’t care about. My Apple Watch Hermes or my hideous orange Casio W214H are beaters. Couldn’t give a toss about them.
I have one, and I must say it's a fucking disaster to master how all the functionalities of this watch work. It's like you must have a phD or something like that to master all its functions.
Wrist computers are a different category. Smart watches too (what's so smart about having another few sensors connected to the internet?).
I don't hate Garmins and Polars and suchlike, they're the best tools for their job. I just don't have a job for them.
Daily beater for me is the g shock square with Bluetooth
I still wanted the Tactix, but it's hard for me to replace my Formex beater and a solid GPS unit.
Haha I just ordered the exact one for 67 euros with shipping from a legit shop! What a steal! It misses the bluetooth and tough solar but still the best watch for the money
G shock Casio brick full metal with pvd coating at 30% off GMWB5000 Got it for 399. Solar charge 200 m water resistance gets signal to adjust time take it everywhere I use it to set other watches when I travel. Even history, g shock was created to be a beater watch.
My current beater is the gmwb5000d. I used to weat a gw5000u as well. Casio FTW
Please bring back videos that explain time dilation
Garmin smartwatch battery life of 1 month the amazing part, especially given that does a lot of what the Apple Ultra 2 does at similar price points
If they can track burping, farting, taking a shit, tinkling, & other fluid emissions, sign me up
That Garmin will die on you unless you charge it everyday
My beater is a GShock. Yard work, swimming, skiing, fishing, etc. they cannot be “beat”.
5610 for me. I can't even seem to scratch it. Perpetual calendar running out, in 2099, might actually be the thing that finally puts it down. 😂
Some of the G-Shock MR-G range are great pieces of engineering. I would have never been seen dead wearing a Casio in business. Retired and outdoors, nothing beats them IMO.
I had a seiko SKX for years and was fantastic for long times away, but agree with a Garmin in the time we live in now, as it does everything you will ever need and can last forever on a charge if you just want a watch. But the tactical is over the top for the price and unless your on opps, your better with the fenix 7x for the price.😁
"Shocktagon" FTW!
Depends how much money you have.... One mans Casio is another mans Rolex Submariner.
Might get some hate for this but can't beat a modern superclone replica 😂 throw it around because it costs sub $1k while still looking better than all the watches in this video
Love my g shocks. And they are great ❤
My Zelos hammerhead bronze. Big and tough.
The best beater watch in my collection is a new Calatrava.
Nay x3. Thrice Nay indeed. The ONLY G-Shock beater, is the DW5600BB-1D.
Black, stealth, no unnecessary graphics, it is unbeatable as a beater.
GA-2100 dial is not readable, esp in this black version, that is why it is off the list for me
Agree, & the digital display is tiny too. I use the GW6900 solar as my daily
Any G-Shock is a beater! Throw it, beat it with a stick, and the G is still going strong!
Mineral glass does scratch easier than sapphire but is more shatter reisistant
Great choices. Casio Gshock GD120C is my beater.
Got it 2016 for my birthday. It’s big, ugly & great to wear almost anywhere, except when going out for dinner etc.
Rolex GMT ll Pepsi. 40 years and never change a battery
I could use a deuce analyzer on my watch.
My beater watch is my army green G Shock GA 700UC. $50 USD.
I also have my G Shock DW9052. $59 USD.
My beater is the GW-5000 1jF.
Well that was 12 minutes of my life I won’t get back again….
Bloody hell gents! By the “time” I programmed that Garmin Tactix, the mission would be over!🤣 I want a watch not a brain fader!😵💫 Thank you G Shock!😎
Why not the Instinct 2X tactical for under half the price. Yeah you do not get maps, but infinite batterylife with some solar. Flashlight and all the other features..
first time seeing a garmin featured here.
i'll stick to my CWC SBS Divers Issue
The Garmin. An incredible bit of tech. A “watch”? Nope. And will be of use to maybe 10 people on the planet. Marketing wastage for a tiny REAL demographic and then fooling lots of others into thinking they need one when they don’t.
I’ll take the G Shock ta 🤗
Tom wins, he actually suggested a watch.
Damasko, guys. Antimagnetic, and indestructible steel cases because they're hardened all the say through. Dekla and Archimede do it too. I'm disappointed.
holy wow, the Garmin beats the crap at any other smart watch...looking at you apple watch and adjusting my bullet trajectory apple.
I wanted to see the graph!
I would love a Doxa Sub 200 for my beater!
Nothing more unbeatable than a G-Shock, its literally made for beating.
Is this an ad for garmin?
The Garmin is not a beater watch. It's an expensive, extremely specialised life saving instrument. It's not something I'd put on my wrist while working in marble industry. I would take it for a trek or a freeride in snow. For my everyday job I have and will always have any cheap Casio instead. Listen, I know you are talking about gardening and other light tasks. That's not tough. I'm talking about working in dust, sharp edges, resins, high humidity and water, even in winter outside, in the most hard environment for any garment or watch. Pardon me, but do a splishy -splashy with a G-Shock doesn't mean it's built for that. There are really tough jobs out there where any shock resistant watch could find its "end of life". That said, it's not matter of how sturdy a watch is, but its cost. Using a Garmin Tactical in my job would be extremely stupid, just for the price of it. I mean 7 hours a day with an angle grinder making fine dust and high speed chippings of marble and granite. Why should I wear a 1600 euros watch?
There's a clear distinction on who does things and who do thinks to know how things are made. Let who knows decide for themselves. Thanks.
Less gardening trivia, more interesting watches, letting alone the supposed purpose for what they were made.
Tourbillon, a French word meaning ‘Non-Beater’ beater.
The Tactix 7 has been discontinued.
It’s still on the site?
Thing is about G Shocks: Modern digital watches s.. balls when compared to vintage like Citizen D060 or D120.
Metal case and colorful graphics. Why dont they reissue the old, they were just better.
My smartwatch is my beater.. i have too much respect for my automatics and quartzs to beat them.
The farming has so much useless features it makes me want to get it!
SKX-009
Like the watch and Elon.
