    Right from the start! The first reason is why I stick to reasonably priced stainless 200 meter dive watches. They are overbuilt to withstand pressure but also withstand clumsiness.

    • @cheesball96
      @cheesball96 9 месяцев назад +1

      When you say reasonably priced... how reasonable are we talking

    • @678rwhp
      @678rwhp 9 месяцев назад +6

      They are also terrible looking. I guess the "overbuilt" aesthetic has its appeal in some situations but in normal business casual they look entirely out of place and quite silly. Exacerbated if the person wearing it is obviously not living an active lifestyle.
      For me dive watches are just boring and an entirely uninspired way to collect watches. Of course, that's why they make all different types, style is a very personal thing and obviously varies greatly.

      @@678rwhp A broken watch is broken. Call it a "sports watch" or a "tool watch" whatever. I look for watches that will stand up to my intended use... which in my case includes bashing off of door frames, wrenches, etc. I don't set out to damage my belongings but I'm realistic in my expectations. It's okay if you don't like what I like. That's why there are so many from which to choose!

    12:50 THIS is _exactly_ why I actually prefer Seiko's unsigned screw-down crowns. They sign the non-screw-down crowns in the Presage, but not on anything with water resistance. Why? Because you can line up the logo on a non-screw-down crown, but a screw-down crown needs the threads to be indexed exactly right for that logo to line up, which means you can't just manufacture a bunch of crowns with logos and have any of them line up unless the logo is engraved _after_ the crown is assembled onto the watch, which I imagine is much more expensive to do.

    I was on holiday in Kansas in 2016, and experienced a localised Zombie apocalypse. My Pelagos survived unscathed, but my friend was wearing a Hublot, and I can tell you, Zombies really don't like Hublots, or any person wearing a Hublot. I think the overly ornate design, is something that disturbs them, and that they REALLY wish to destroy. Luckily my friends brain liquid was easily buffed off my P42, with a toothbrush and some distilled water. I was wearing the full titanium strap, so can't comment on how the rubber or NATO strap would perform.

    Avoid getting an expensive Sun Dial fixture in the garden if you have OCD. They are no good on a cloudy day, we have a lot of those in the UK but sometimes have fog as well. The other thing is that the beloved Sun Dial doesn't give a pair of dingo's kidneys when DST starts or stops that allegedly can trigger the Oozlum reflex resulting in the owner disappearing completely.

    I can't stand the magnifying glass over the date window. I'm always trying to make it look right by trying to centre the numerals in it just right, but it never does, and it makes the dial look rubbish. Not sure which category of mental illness that puts me in, but I really hate it.

  • @hairychris444

    Hah. My daily wear for most of the 00s was a 70s Rolex Oysterdate on a leather strap. I'm hugely clumsy and at the time was going to a load of gigs/clubs and all sorts of other nonsense. There were multiple times where I had to chase my watch across a venue because the strap broke or spring bar came detached. It lasted surprisingly well but I put it away after killing it for the second time.
    Had it serviced, repaired and crystal replace earlier this year so it's running happily again, although I usually wear a Garmin now. Getting it running cost me more than the whole watch did in 1999, but to be fair the watch itself is worth way more now too!

    Absolutely agree with Tom on date windows topic. Without additional information, like day or day and month, it tells nothing and ruins look of a dial. Especially when placed in some weird place like "on hour 4". And when there is also cyclops eye to see it better, it is even worse as it is easier to scratch something that stands out of the watch glass. One of few reasons I will never buy Rolex Sub or similar watch.

    • @5891jonathan

      @ilpolacocattolico9283 9 месяцев назад

      @@5891jonathan Oh, you're right. However, still there are other reasons not to buy this watch or even most of Rolex collection :) Like, for example, design. Most copied in the world, by "homage" brands. For Rolex price, I would want people to see I have Rolex but by buying Invicta, Steinhart or similar brand, result is the same. And Rolex on the wrist invites thieves. I like Rolex's younger brother, Tudor, though.
