ABSOLUTELY WORTH UPGRADING !! | Taylormade P7CB 2025 Irons Review

- Rory has had one of these Irons in his Bag in early 2024 with only PROTO written on it. It actually was Taylormades NEW P7CB 2024 / 2025 Iron. Although definitely on the Players side of the range, you don't have to be a Tour Striker to use and Play these Irons.
Today I test them at 3 different Swing Speeds, 70mph, 80mph and 90mph to see how they will work for all types of Golfers, and I also test its Forgiveness by recording its Drop Off's when you don't hit the middle to see how usable the NEW Taylormade P7CB Irons really are.

I got the combo set last week with CBs from 8-PW. I’ve played four rounds with them so far. The 770s are great, but the CBs are sublime in the short irons. I had 147 to the pin today on a par 3, swung the 9 iron, and I would have barely known I had even hit a ball if not for the fact that there was one flying toward the pin, stopping three yards short with only about four feet of roll. Love the feel of the CBs on a well struck shot.
Went with the full P7CB from p790. Initially wanted to combo P770 (4-6), P7CB (7-P), but I found dispersion on the longer irons was just too good, and I didn't really struggle with long irons or speed so it was just perfect. Also, P7CB being significantly softer than both the P790 and P770, really made hitting balls more fun.
Got fitted for the P770 & P7CB; settled on P7CB 4-PW, feels great but you better strike it in the middle.
For the ball strikers out there, the P7CBs will be a great purchase, for the golfers which move a bit more, either a blend of the CBs into P770s in the mid to longer irons would be a good idea, and for the golfers which move even more, a full compliment of P770s is the way to go.
Have fun with your new purchase 👍🏻
@@AskGolfNut thank you!
Pretty clean irons and very good numbers. Seems tons more forgiving than previous models.
It's a touch faster on the face and also works a bit better from off centre hits... Everything works together to make a decent difference 👍🏻
Good to see you using GSPro
It's the best option for graphics and also course choice. FSX Play is also really good but you have to pay for individual courses and also I can't get the delivery screen up on previous shots like I can FSX2020. So I have to run 2 sim softwares at the same time.... My poor PC 😊
Great video, these irons look stunning!
Thank you, glad you enjoyed the video 👍🏻
They do, feel nice too, perform well and a decent upgrade from it's prior model which is fairly unique model to model 👍🏻
Waited for this one. 👍🏻 Great review.
Without fitting yet and seeing forgiveness of CB 6-PW with 4+5 in 770’s looks like a reasonable mix. 🤷🏻♂️
Curious about turf interaction of 770 4+5 though.
Leaving 50+ years of blades will be interesting. Think the FB Mizuno group will boot me for having just a STG220? 😂😂
What works, works. If its any manufacturer the main aim and goal for this game is purely to have fun playing it. If that can be had more with one club more than the other then really its only the individual to judge and justify, not other people to give their unwanted opinions.... Do what makes you happy and enjoy the game more 👍👍👍
On board with that mentality. Don’t pay much attention to others opinions. This game is great!!
P7MC looks sleeker but an extra 3mph with more forgiveness and classic forged feel is very impressive. Seems to be in MP 243 territory.
Nearly, the 243's slightly more cranked in loft so may be for me maybe 3 or 4 yrds longer. CB's will feel on balance softer than the 243s due to the change in metals in the 243 where the CB's are straight steel forgings. Arguably though due to the added tech in the 243's the trade off for feel would be greater ball speed, launch and extra forgiveness 👍
@@AskGolfNut The one-piece, copper-layered 243 short irons feel and sound the same as the slotted long irons to me. Maybe because I have them in Steelfiber i95 stiff.
@lkae4 it's a very personal thing 'feel' personally I can tell a difference between the 7 and 9 iron when I swap between them but it's not a massive difference and after you use the irons for a very short time you don't even notice. But it's there for me at least so worth highlighting that it may or may not be apparent 👍🏻👍🏻
@@AskGolfNut Thanks. What's the softest forged iron you've ever hit? MP 20?
@lkae4 probably the SUB70 TAIII irons... DT4 steel is ridiculously soft feeling.... 👍🏻
Could easily replace my mp20 mmc they look great 🥰
Could do apart from the MMC has the Toe miss specific help that the CB's don't. Their weighting is more centrally located. So depending on your miss 👍
@@AskGolfNut I miss in the toe as you know 😉would be a combo with 770 for sure 🤣
Great reviews as usual! Two question’s if I may…the 7i MC is 1 degree weaker (34) than the CB (33), how much does that factor into the performance gains you saw with the CB?
Also, when comparing the MC/CB is there a difference in top line and sole thickness or is it marginal?
Appreciate it!
2nd part first🙂 marginal 👍
1st part, this is why I show detailed head data, there was only 0.4 degrees of dynamic loft difference in the comparison, that and the small 1.5 degrees more in AoA would make up the 250rpm in spin difference, but nothing to do with the 3 mph ball speed gain.... That is purely the design on the new head over that of the MC 👍
Thank you, appreciate the reply! Love your channel!
Great video! How do these compare to the 243s in terms of distance and forgiveness?
Distance wise the Mizuno Pro 243s should be a touch faster from the slightly less loft and also the Microslot design faster ball speeds idea. Forgiveness maybe fairly equal with maybe the win going to 243 again due to the greater amount of tech within the head. Feel though the win probably would be the P7CB from its true steel forging all the way through.
Thanks for the comment and for watching 👍
Very informative! How would these compare to the T150s? I'm on the fence...
I'd have to sit on the fence with you on that Chuck as I haven't tested the Titleist range so couldn't give an informed answer 👍
@AskGolfNut Appreciate the honest reply. Would you say the P7CB is equivalent to the ZX7s? I'm searching for the best iron for both distance and forgiveness that isn't hollow bodied. Late 50's and speed isn't quite what it was. Still high 80s with a 7 iron but I want solid steel. Your opinion is always helpful. Thanks.
@chucksmerdon6256 Have you hit the Cobra CB? I went and re hit a bunch and that is just so good. Give it a real hit before your next purchase. Good luck and enjoy
@@RidgeReaperDCIt's on the list, thanks!
T150 compare more to the p770 the t100 is closer to the p7cb 🙂⛳️👍🏼
What are your thoughts on these compared to the Wilson Staff CB’s?
Very close in that match up.... The Wilsons probably have it on 'Feel' but the P7CBs may have the win on forgiveness when it comes to off centre strikes 👍🏻
how do these compare to the wilson cavity backs would you say?
If you mean the 2024 model Wilson CB , then the P7CB is faster and longer, but our data shows its less forgiving. If you want to see the historical data and be able to compare from the list of 34 irons we have in our database, you can do so by becoming a channel member, and joining discord.
How do these compare to the Titleist T100?
If I ever get my hands on the Titleist irons to test I'd be more than happy to answer this 👍 Titleist are being very quiet to my attempts at communication 🤷
Would love to see a comparison of these vs the Cobra King Tour. Little underdog vs. new dog on the block battle.
Cobra king tour are drastically underrated
Cobra Tour irons are absolutely drastically under rated. I can't sing their praises enough.
For the video idea, I'll leave it to youtube to determine if they want to watch it. Depending on how well the video goes I'll see if enough people are interested in these to spend the time making the comparison video.... Its 2 days work to do a comparison vid 👍🏻
Cobra king tour is more comparable to the p790 or p770 the cobra king CB is the one to compare to these.
@@silverlionblades I think you’re thinking of the cobra king Tec irons. The king tours are cavity back irons but have a small cut out on the back lower weight area like a T150. They are smaller than the 2023 p770 irons. King tours are more comparable to the T100 in size. They are very forgiving for their size though.
How would you say these compare to mizuno pro 243? Is mizuno softer feeling?
Facts
Honestly if its 'softness' you like then I'd have to go with the P7MC being solid steel forgings, Mizuno Pro 243 in the scoring irons are 1025E so would just be accoustically softer but its the 7 and above due to the Chromoly that gives those a slightly firmer feel 👍
great review! wanted to ask what u meant in terms of the softness? are the mp243 softer than the p7cb? in terms of feel, because i didn’t like the clickiness of the p770s, was wondering if the p7cb had the same clickiness
Seems like a upgrade across the board.
From the old I would defo agree. Still it's a lot of money to dump on an upgrade 👍🏻
@@AskGolfNut yeah I'm not a fan of the current $200 price points.
How does the feel compare to 243's?
Honestly if its 'softness' you like then I'd have to go with the P7MC being solid steel forgings, Mizuno Pro 243 in the scoring irons are 1025E so would just be accoustically softer but its the 7 and above due to the Chromoly that gives those a slightly firmer feel 👍
Does Rory play those in just his long Irons?
He does, he has his own total Rory Proto versions in the lower part of the bag 👍🏻
What would u say is more forgiving. Zx7 or P7CB?
Now that's a really difficult one to answer. I think I'll need to test it to know, although there are rumours that a new ZX series is releasing in early 2025 so may well hold off doing it till then? 👍🏻
Zx7 easier to hit 100% I just hit the p7cb the other day and I have hit the zx7 a few times and the p7cb definitely less forgiving for sure but they sure do feel amazing when you pure them.
takomo 301cb or taylor made p7cb?
what would be the criteria for the answer?? cost has to come into it I'm assuming??
@@AskGolfNut yes cost would be part of it, but feel also and forgiveness.
As good looking, if not better than the Srixon ZX7 MK2s.
That's the beauty with beauty.... Some like it, some won't. Personally I agree that they have improved on the looks even though I did like the Chrome on the MC. 👍🏻
@@AskGolfNut Always the chrome 😂
Great looking club but way out of my ability. 👍
I admire your honesty 👍👍👍
