  • Srixon ZX4 MK2 Irons FORGIVENESS Review, I can't believe I haven't tested these irons before now. The whole range are great for a variety of golfers, the ZX4 is the largest of the Range and focuses on Distance and Forgiveness. The MK2 irons have some changes but I focus on the second part of the video on its Forgiveness abilities and who this new iron is suited for.

    Absolutely love these irons, I’ve been gaming them for a while and I know you mentioned that the sole design is not something that particularly affects you but I find it to be excellent when you are out there and hitting off real grass. Love the sound and feel as well. Keep up the good work 🙏🏌🏻‍♂️

    I currently play callaway apex 19 irons but really want something more forgiving in the longer irons. Definitely want to try these in the 5 & 6 and maybe blend into the curent set or look at the zx5 in shorter irons.
    Very helpful review especially considering swing speeds of us mere mortals!

    Great review Jay and many thanks for the only reviews worth watching. I’ve nearly finished my testing tried the big brands and just had a fabulous Srixon fitting the ZX4 was fantastic , as a senior 17 handicapper with swing speed of 70 with 7 iron got 90 ball speed, ascent 23 and descent 45, and carry 132.. my spin was 6000 and smash factor 1.33. Set make up 6-PW, 3 CBX4 wedges, 7 wood, 5 hybrid, 3 wood and driver.
    Only testing left is Darkspeed and Wilson Dynapwr and Dynapwr forged bit worried these brands have very strong lofts. Tried Cleveland Zipcore XL irons and surprised that the ZX4 were better for me. Anyway would appreciate your thoughts . Many thanks Jay.

    I went in to try these irons thinking they’d suit me well, I was hitting 7 iron 190 carry with 210 roll out .. they felt good but the backspin was around 3800.
    He fit me into T100s with a project X LZ 6, I was hitting consistent 174 carry with 6000 spin!!
    As a higher handicap player I figured high forgiving clubs was necessary but I truly don’t need overkill distance, wouldn’t mind to try the ZX7s

    Hi Jay, I notice that you often refer to launch and descent angle when reviewing clubs, especially for those with slower swing speeds which is great - thanks. However, I have been thinking about this. From Oct-March the greens in the UK are generally soft due to cold and dampness, even April/May they can be relatively receptive. It's not until June-August when the weather gets warmer that the greens get firmer. So for 3/4 of the year most inland courses will have receptive greens, I wonder just how much relevance should be put on descent angle? Indeed, despite being USGA greens there are only a handful of greens at my course where you really need a good descent angle to hold a green. Just playing Devil's advocate.

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  7 месяцев назад +1

      Hi Devil 😁 ray, good question. Basically control is very much so something that the individuals around the world (and youtube views are all around the world) with different playing conditions will have to take into account.
      The norm for the UK is different to other locations so will have to tweak their own understanding of what it acceptable. For me, even in spring/autumn which is a good baseline take on conditions with winter and summer being the either end of the scale, the descent angles still need to be set at no less that 40 degrees and especially with longer clubs due to the increased ball speed when hitting the surface. Again though, someone how plays in a particularly soft environment will be able to adjust their take on what's necessary as also the golfer who plays in much harder conditions will have to adjust what's required for them.
      As always it's near on impossible for me to give everyone their own requirements within a video review but hopefully I give enough information for golfers out there to be able to do the adjustments which are relevant to themselves when watching 👍🏻 👍🏻
      Thanks for the comment and for watching 👍🏻

    Iron face generated speed is controlled?? That's news to me. Driver face speed is controlled, but I think that's where limiting face speed stops. I think iron manufacturers can make any iron face just as fast as they want.

    ZX4 or ZX5 or the new Taylormade P-790....which do you think would fit my game the best....95 mph driver swing speed...58 years old .... 7 handicap..... thx Jay... cheers from Canada

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  Год назад

      I think it would really come down to the forgiveness and launch requirements. If you struggle for peak height I'd say the ZX4 stopping at no more than 6 iron maybe even 7 iron and then transition into hybrids. Or if you are happy with your current requirements of help and forgiveness then any of the choices will work and I'd go for the best feeling ones to your own head 👍

    Wondering if anyone can give me some advice. Just ordered 5-pw in these. The week leading upto the fitting id played 5 times in the week and was absolutely wrecked come the fitting. I was absolutely awful during the fitting. I’ve been playing 2 years to the day I got fitted for them and had gone in wanting the zx5’s. I was so bad in the fitting I couldn’t hit them. I didn’t really want the 4s not because I don’t like them they were my next pick but because I was worried about having a 7 iron that went to far. Typically distance isn’t an issue for me, I swing a 7 iron about 90mph and carry it 170-180 with my current beginner set of Slazenger v300’s. It was my 40th so decided to treat myself to a set of fitted irons. The fitter made the irons 1 degree upright and during the fitting with this more powerful iron my average 7 iron carry was 167. I’m worried I was in such a bad with in the fitting the adjustment he’s made to the clubs is going to make them harder to play normally. I usually only play once/twice a week so I only play that much the week of my birthday every year. I appreciate nobody here knows my normal swing but will the 1 degree upright make that much of a difference? I can live with them going a bit to far so long as I can make them stop on greens with decent angle. I’ll just have to get the AW in the set and maybe another wedge

      @berto882 Hi there, well everyone on their time has either had a poor fitting or poor swing during a fitting so don't feel alone... What is a little disappointing though is the purchase part of it as when I was Coaching and Custom Fitting full time I saw one of these such cases multiple times a week. In these cases, I always looked to either postpone the fitting to a different day where more likely and normal swing dynamics would present themselves for a much more useful fitting experience. This is for the benefit of the golfer rather than pushing ahead with a Sale. So to see a purchase during a fitting with little to no useful data due to a terrible swing day is a little frustrating.
      These are fairly strong lofted irons and distance gapping and long carry distances from your 90mph swing speed may well be interesting to play with. The 1 degree Upright won't change distance whatsoever, it's the interaction with the ground and where the lofts point relative to face direction (this is a large part of any fitting so the fitter should have explained any loft or more importantly lie changes in detail),
      I think next time a fitting appointment is due, a semi sensible playing frequency may need to be adhered to for a better fitting experience 😊... I'm not sure how well the clubs will work but I wish you all the very best 👍🏻👍🏻

      @@AskGolfNut Jay thank you so much for replying, love your content. I have spoke to the fitter since I posted to discuss my concerns and he’s said that once I have a few rounds with the clubs I can go in and he can take a look. I do love the zx4’s but the lofts when I’m hitting it well was the issue I had at the back of my mind. On the day I was really struggling with height on the ball so he went with an Elevate 95 S shaft. Typically height isn’t an issue, I wasn’t so much worried about the lie angle but more the shaft on days I strike the ball well and the ball launches into orbit. While I swing at a decent pace obviously being newish to the game my consistency isn’t there just yet so the 4’s probably are the right head potentially over the 5’s. I’ve learnt so much from your channel about how to interpret my numbers and I can’t thank you enough. Keep up the great work

    HI, im getting fit for either the ZX4 or ZX5 MK2 or possibly the 923 forged. I know the ZX5 has a SW as part of the set option, i like to have a matching set, but is there any disadvanatge to have a 56 ZX5 against a more traditional speciality wedge like a Vokey or Glide wedge etc... Im off 7 for reference, thought you would be a good guy to ask :)

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  11 месяцев назад +1

      Not necessarily a disadvantage, but depending on your action having the choice of the bounce and grind options can be helpful. This all depends on how you use your wedges and what benefit you may or may not get from utilising a certain bounce or grind profile 👍🏻

      @@AskGolfNut Thanks for the reply its appreciated. Could i ask one more question, im thinking of blending the ZX4/ZX5 but would have to have the lofts bent to avoid crazy gapping or two 7 irons :) Does bending the lofts change the bounce and effect the clubs characteristics? Thanks

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  11 месяцев назад

      @gregcarnall9097 bending lofts very much does alter the bounce characteristics of the head and also the offset. I haven't got a great amount of experience with the V Sole and how it is affected by loft alterations. If it was me during the fitting I would see how a standard ZX5 7 iron in your fitted shaft does against the same in the ZX4 but with a half inch longer shaft. So 7 irons but one (ZX4) with a 6 iron length shaft, to see how the gapping is.
      If all is well you'll get the best of both world 👍🏻

      All manufacturers now have had time to backwards engineer a Pro V1 and put their own twist on things so it's taken Mizuno to this point to decide where they want to sit in the market. Before the old ball was quite spinny which suited very low swing speed players but not the masses. The new ball has very much so changed things for them for the better 👍
