I have always loved the P770s, to my eyes the new version is really good looking. Whereas I didn't like the P7MC, it felt hard off the face to me, more so than my i210s which are not exactly the softest feeling irons. P7MC had very little forgiveness Only issue for me with the original P770s was that in my hands they spun the ball a little less than my i210s without any particular compensating upside. The new version looks to be spinning the ball more - that I like a lot. As for the P7CB - Taylor Made have nailed it. I like the looks, the performance is exactly what I would expect. Like the P7MC, probably not the most forgiving but I suspect a bit more than the P7MC. If I was changing irons I would have the P770 in the 5i & 6i (maybe 7i) then P7CB in the higher lofted irons
Great feedback here! Agree with a lot of what you said. Seems TaylorMade added some forgiveness into the P7CB but they still feel really good. And yes, in our test we were surprised with the P770 spin.
I'm a senior and my swing speed is only in the 73-75 mph area with a 7 iron and I can't get much height or a decent landing angle. What other options should I be looking at?
Coming from the p790’s, do you find it is better for players to go all in with a full set of p770’s or would it be better to combo set between the two? I’m a 10 handicap
Great question. If you feel good about your ball striking and generally don't have problems getting your iron shots in the air, I think a combo of the tee would be good. P7CBs in the lower irons would offer some better feel and consistency. I would just make sure to work with a fitter and ensure the gapping is proper throughout the set, because as we saw in our test, the performance of the tee irons does differ a little bit.
@@gregfierro5454if you look at the robot testing review from the „cool clubs“ channel they showed this years p770 has way tighter dispersion and no flyers anymore (less hot). It also lost a few yards due to that. That makes it an impressive unmatched club bit less distance enhancing. Take my opinion with a bucket of salt but the gapping with p790 and p770 is important. If you get that correct with a fitter you might feel more confident with the p790 in the longer irons, but they are less consistent. Just give the longer p770s a try and see if you feel confident. I feel p770 mixes naturally with CB but not anymore with the distance enhancing and hotter p790. If you have some confidence issue with lower irons think about UDI and DHY as well. P770 from 2024 is the all-star now in all respects in my opionion. Need to try the workability of shorter irons more though
The P7CBs are still quite different than original P770s. The P770s are still built like a small, skinny hollow body players distance iron. Similar materials to the P790 but in a much smaller package. The P7CBs play a lot closer to what you think of with a blade or muscle back iron. Fully forged with a tiny bit of added perimeter weighting to create the cavity and thus some added forgiveness. But the P7CB is still about feel and control

I would be very impressed if a 10 can't hit muscle backs let alone a 770....
Id be looking at a p7mc at least
I’d go full set of 770’s if you’re coming from 790’s. I think the P7CB is more of a

@@2ndswing thanks, but I was more speaking about combo p790s than CB. 5i - 7i in p790’s and 8i - PW in 770’s. My ball striking isn’t there yet for CB

Really miss Kevin’s insight on these. Hope he’s playing well
We'll be filming more content with him soon!
When will the new Apex and Apex DCBs be released?
How would compare the P7CB's to the original P770's? Without having seen the P7CB, it appears the design concepts and execution may be very similar.
P7CB is going to be more like a P750 proto. Almost no tech, just a cavity and a little dot of tungsten in the toe.

@@2ndswing The "original" P770's were not hollow body irons. They were solid forged irons with tungsten. circa 2017
@joedoaks6517 ahh, you’re right, my mistake. I was thinking of the 2020 P770s. Yes, those P770s are pretty similar
Anyone else missing Kevin? 😢
I am! 😅 - Drew
Meh has always been my response to TM irons. These aren't doing anything to change that
