I do not know of many vegans who do not take type2 meds. I wish there would be more concern type2 persons?? I have lost 60 lbs and omitted blood pressure meds. A1c 5.2 5.3 at the highest.eating carbs and less fat got me to Not stopping my elevated a1c. No doctor could address this. If I have less years to live I will be happy without the Meds.

    I learn something new from every one of Dr. Fuhrman’s videos. This time I learned that it is better to eat nuts and seeds WITH meals than separately as a snack. I am already having walnuts (and flax seeds) with my whole grain breakfast. Now I will have my almonds and pumpkin seeds with my sprout sandwich for dinner or with my fresh cooked beans for lunch. Or both! Thank you, Dr. Fuhrman!!

I do not eat them on their own, only in with a salad or dressing, etcetera this works for me 😍because I am one who would definitely just keep eating handful after handful LOL also this has helped me to know how much the proper amount looks like.

    PLEASE HELP. I need knowledge that I cannot get from my non-plant-based cardiologist. Dr. Fuhrman, a year and a half ago I had two cardiac stents put in for 2 89% blockages. I was not and have never been overweight. I followed a fairly healthy, vegan diet, but since then have adopted your Nutritarian way of life. I am a 56 yr old female.
    My question is, can my blockages be reversed with having the stents? it is all very confusing to me, and I don’t know where to turn. Please help!

    • @drfuhrman
      @drfuhrman  6 месяцев назад +11

      Hi @sharongenco3716, I'm so sorry you're going through this confusing and scary time. It must be really frustrating not getting the guidance you need from your cardiologist. Please know that you're doing all the right things by adopting a nutritarian lifestyle - that's a huge step in the right direction!
      While I can't give you medical advice, I want to reassure you that our bodies have an amazing capacity to heal. Stents or no stents, a nutrient-packed, plant-based diet can absolutely help stabilize and even reverse plaque buildup over time.
      My advice? Keep eating all those delicious, whole plant foods to give your body the tools it needs to repair itself. And don't be afraid to advocate for yourself - try to find a cardiologist who really gets the power of lifestyle changes. They're out there!
      Most of all, be kind to yourself and celebrate the positive changes you're making. You've got this, and there's a whole community here cheering you on. Wishing you all the best on your healing journey!

If it’s possible for you to answer one more question, I’m on 5 mg of Rosuvastatin every other day which I did advocate to get down to because it was making me feel awful. My LDL is 57 on this dosage, and 87 when I was off it. I wanted a chance to continue to lower my LDL‘s but my cardiologist insisted I needed to be on a statin. I’d very much appreciate your opinion. Thank you.

    • @drfuhrman
      @drfuhrman  6 месяцев назад +8

      Thank you for your question about peanuts. While they are not true nuts, peanuts can still be a part of a healthy diet when consumed in moderation. They provide plant-based protein, healthy fats, fiber, vitamins, and minerals. However, it's important to be mindful of potential aflatoxin contamination, allergies, and calorie content. In a nutritarian diet, peanuts can be included, but other nuts and seeds like walnuts, almonds, and flaxseeds are often prioritized for their nutrient profiles.

    There is so much polarity about what’s the optimum human nutrition. All these diet gurus are missing the elephant in the room “STRESS”/emotional trauma. Trauma can predispose you to addictions (food, couch, etc). So address that first. Not the diet.
    Eat what your ancestors ate. If your ancestors ate an omnivore diet then eat an omnivore diet. If your ancestors ate WFPB diet eat that. If you’re insulin resistant and a carb restricted diet or keto worked keep at it.
    Stress causes gut dysbiosis, blood sugar issues, autoimmunity and heart disease and cancers.
    Manage stress, eat a real food omnivore diet and avoid food groups that you’re sensitive. No processed foods, alcohol,etc.
    Don’t eat animal food if you firmly believe and feel you shouldn’t. That would cause stress. Any internal conflict can stress you. Eat
    We are all unique and listen to your body.
    Lastly, avoid a lot of RUclips videos about diets.
    Instead take time to practice mindfulness and connecting with family and friends.

It keeps me so satiated and well nourished, has greatly reduced my appetite too. This is better than snacking on nuts as it's not as tempting to binge or overeat. • @drfuhrman
      @drfuhrman  6 месяцев назад +6

      When it comes to consuming nuts and seeds, raw or minimally processed options are generally preferred over roasted or heavily processed varieties. Here's why:
      1. Raw nuts and seeds retain more of their natural nutrients, as the heating process used in roasting can potentially damage or reduce the bioavailability of some vitamins and minerals.
      2. Roasted nuts and seeds often have added oils, salt, or other flavorings, which can increase their calorie content and introduce unwanted additives.
      3. Some roasting methods may expose nuts and seeds to high temperatures that can lead to the formation of harmful compounds, such as acrylamide, which has been linked to potential health risks.
      However, if you prefer the taste of roasted nuts and seeds, opt for dry-roasted varieties without added oils or salt. Alternatively, you can roast them yourself at home using a lower temperature to minimize potential nutrient loss and the formation of harmful compounds.
      In summary, when I recommend incorporating nuts and seeds into your diet, I generally suggest choosing raw or minimally processed options. If you do consume roasted varieties, be mindful of the roasting method and any added ingredients. As always, moderation is key, as nuts and seeds are calorie-dense foods.

    Why is there so much added sugar in everything, even bread. That's just crazy
    Email, text, tweet or phone your favorite producer of poison and let them know consumers want less salt, oils and sugars in their products.
    Let their customer service department know that all the extra added salt, oil and sugar is not necessary or desired and is causing health issues.

      Here’s the answer. A lot of processed food products DO HAVE a “low salt” “low sugar” or “low fat” version. But you know what? They taste like eating cardboard, so customers don’t buy them. The only way processed foods can compete for taste against REAL food is by throwing in all that crap to confuse your taste buds. I call those products “frankenfoods” - foods stitched together with a little of this and a little of that. REAL food is what grows out of the ground or on a tree. Don’t bother thinking about how to make junk food healthier. After all, it’s JUNK food! Think about giving up that garbage and eating only REAL food! What a concept.

    • @drfuhrman
      @drfuhrman  6 месяцев назад +5

      Hi @jennifergilchrist5597. Thank you for your question.
      While the nutritarian diet, which emphasizes nutrient-dense plant foods and limits processed foods and animal products, can support liver health, it is unlikely to reverse advanced liver diseases like cirrhosis.
      There is evidence to suggest that plant-based diets may have a beneficial impact on liver health and cirrhosis:
      1. A new study found that liver patients with cirrhosis saw benefits after going meatless for just one meal. Even small dietary changes, like occasionally having a meal without meat, could benefit the liver by lowering harmful ammonia levels in patients with cirrhosis.

      2. Higher adherence to plant-based diets has been associated with lower risks of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) (PMID: 30578029) Some plant-based diets have been suggested to have a beneficial impact on liver disease risk.
      3. A recent study found that diets rich in plant-based foods are associated with lower risks of NAFLD, while the prospective evidence regarding other chronic liver diseases is limited (PMID: 36817573)
      While these studies suggest that plant-based diets may have a positive effect on liver health and potentially slow the progression of liver diseases like cirrhosis, it is important to note that advanced stages of cirrhosis are generally considered irreversible. Consultation with a qualified healthcare professional is essential for personalized medical advice and treatment plans based on an individual's specific condition and circumstances.

I follow a plant-dominant, whole-foods diet with great outcomes, thanks to Dr. Fuhrman, Dr. Greger, Dr. Ornish, and others. My split of macros is 40% carbs (mostly legumes, veggies and fruits), 20% protein (mostly from legumes, pea protein, and a few weekly servings of herring, mackerel, or sardines), and 40% fat (mostly from nuts/seeds and avocados). Best regards

    Interesting.... If saturated fat is bad why does the body convert excess sugar to fat in the liver? And that fat is palmatic acid a saturated fat. What are the exact mechanisms that saturated fat causes heart disease? Exactly! This guy needs to go back to school.

    • @anabolicamaranth7140
      @anabolicamaranth7140 6 месяцев назад

      That’s a nice straw man argument. Excess sugar does have a negative effect, yeah we all agree on that. The fact that excess sugar has a negative effect does not mean too much saturated fat is fine.

    • @blsenterprise1

      @anabolicamaranth7140 That's a brilliant argument. So if we don't know the mechanism, how do you know it's bad for us? Go look up association vs causation and learn something. You might also want to brush up on observational studies.
