Thank you for this wonderful and informative podcast. I will strongly recommend this to my patients, I may have to help with translation as not everyone speaks English very well. Dear dr. Fuhrman, I also recommend your G-Bombs. Greetings from Germany
It's a good rule of the thumb that food has to be quickly to leave the stomach slowly to enter the blood. You don't want to eat some undigestive mess that will be sitting on the stomach for 10 hours, but also not something so easy that in 2 hours it'll be all down the bloodstream.
Most people don't have rice alone or bread alone. A Rice and beans meal, for example, have plenty of fiber, so wouldn't the glycemic load of that meal be lower. Same with bread.
Dear Re I have been a diabetic for over 20 years, although not educated, rice and beans are just as bad as sugarbeans are high in starches. I have spoken to Dr john mcdougall who wants us to be starchovoures. When I say how my sugar rises very high, he recommends I take some insulin. I am against meds of any kind so I don't see why I would take insulin. Any one eating a starchy diet like Dr john recommends, are at risk of a stroke or blood clot causing a heart attack. I was shock when I heard the Dr died a few days ago. I have attributed his sudden death to his starch diet. I feel he had a stroke in the night although we were not told. I say his potatoe and rice diet caused his death. I love Dr Furhman,s knowledge of food because he makes a lot of sense.
I think it has been shown that eating high glycemic foods with protein and fiber lowers the glycemic load. But perhaps it’s still not as low as if you’d eaten the protein and fiber without the white bread or white rice? The confusing thing is that the nutrition labels for white and brown rice aren’t that different. The fiber content is only a gram or two different between the two. 🤷🏼♀️
At age 76 yrs, even with going on while good and removing all kinds if sugar, I've only lost 10 lbs over 8 months, and not deemed pre diabetic, then will I really become healthy?
If I hadn't watched Ekberg's video on fasting, I wouldn't know what waa meant by beta cells. These two complement each other. Love listening to them and practicing what they preach.

I'm having a small diet issue. My fasting glucose is on the high side (110). I've fully converted to nutritarian about 2 weeks ago and still see some spikes from my 1 cup of beans and maybe a cup of quinoa. This week I took out the beans and added 3-4 ounces of animal protein/day. Everything else stays the same. After about 4 days my fasting glucose is down massively to 80. I'm struggling with this. I'm eating incredibly clean and at a caloric deficit daily (1,500). I'd rather have beans than meat. I tested it again and took out the meat (in place of beans) and added back the cup of beans (different kinds but mostly black lentils) and my fasting glucose shot back up to 110. I'm thinking of maybe using 1/4 to 1/2 cup of beans daily but keeping the once daily dose (4 ounces) of meat. I am losing weight.
Try ACV before a meal in addition to what you’re already doing. Go for a 20min walk after every meal. Make sure you’re getting sound sleep everyday. Cortisol arising from bad sleep can contribute to high baseline glucose
No you will never fully reverse your insulin resistance eating meat. You are confusing short term benefit with long term damage. This might help ruclips.net/video/d14PhGWDV6c/видео.htmlsi=QlnfowGgfS73IHlJ

Sorry,I was wrong about the focus on raw food. But Dr Fuhrman suggests eating GBOMBS: G=Greens B=Beans O=Onion(raw) M=Mushrooms(cooked) B=Berries S=Seeds and Nuts Dr Fuhrman explains in his books how these 6 foods/categories of foods are essential.
What you expect ! The government changed our food because when i was a small child i could eat all carbonated food no problem. It started when the government messed with our foods. Dr Fuhrman, how do I get in contact with your clinic to schedule a consultation? I live in Maryland and willing to make the trip to get ride of this type2
Dr. Fuhrman, my wife and I have been nutritarian for close to 15 years, in our early 70s, exercise regularly, ideal weight, and doing great. The diet is perfect for me because I was always prone to constipation before I got on this diet. My wife, however, has always had the opposite problem of being “too loose”. Instead of “more fiber”, my wife is hoping to find some nutritious food that is “more binding”. What would you suggest? (Sorry to say, this is becoming a more serious problem for her as time goes by.) Thank you!
Have you listened to or read Dr. Bulseiwicz, plant based GI doc? Also, has your wife seen a gastroenterologist in person within the last few years? Has she had a colonoscopy?
@@flyshacker From my experience, RUclips will not post links, but if you google Dr. Will Bulsiewicz or his book Fiber Fueled or go to The Exam Room Podcast and look for Dr. Bulsiewicz you will find many of his videos.
Congratulations on your 15-year nutritarian journey! It's wonderful to hear about your health improvements. For your wife's issue, consider adjusting the balance of cooked vs. raw vegetables, or incorporating more cooked leafy greens and squashes. Chia seeds soaked in water can also help. Remember, staying hydrated is crucial. If the problem persists, it may be wise to consult with a gastroenterologist for a thorough evaluation.
Please discuss Walter Kempner's Rice Diet, which McDougall sometimes recommended for extremely ill patients. White rice and fruit juice is almost completely backwards from your recommendations here.
Hi @bhami. While Dr. Kempner's approach showed some benefits for severely ill patients in the short term, it's important to understand the context. The Rice Diet was primarily used as a temporary, therapeutic intervention for extreme cases, not as a long-term nutrition plan. The nutritarian approach aims to maximize nutrient density and overall health in the long term. White rice and fruit juice, while potentially useful in specific short-term scenarios, don't provide the broad spectrum of nutrients needed for optimal health over time. Our current understanding of nutrition has evolved significantly since Kempner's time. We now know the importance of phytochemicals, fiber, and the wide array of micronutrients found in a diverse, plant-rich diet. While historical approaches like the Rice Diet have their place in medical history, I believe the nutritarian diet offers a more comprehensive, sustainable approach to health and longevity based on the latest nutritional science.
Loved this conversation! 🌱💚 Have always so identified with your passion to get the message out that we need to do the best things for ourselves, and not settle. Loved the part where Jennifer mentions these influencers or nutritionists who promote acceptance of unhealthy habits…I’ve always been so puzzled by that. ..nobody ever has wanted to shame people, and getting healthy is about changing habits which means follow the evidence-backed research (and for me, follow your knowledgeable & inspirational teachings too ) & stop eating the unhealthy foods. You’ve informed so much of what I do as a health coach, thank you!

Uff immigrants maintain your cultural identity and heritage esp how your ancestors ate All that glitters is not gold Take the good leave the bad Abusing your body by putting “good looking” food that will cause diabetes and cancer doesn’t make any sense Heal thyself 😊
What a crock of whooooeeee. You don’t want to trip insulin don’t eat grains and beans. Too many carbs. Same with high glycemic fruits and veggies. Insulin bombs. Geez … added oil to food doesn’t get stored into your bloodstream. More bunk.
I've been on Keto for 6 years now, you don't need carbs for energy the body can convert fat, and you don't need fiber, so eat lots of fat, butter and olive oil, and you will not get diabetes.
You don't understand how diabetes comes about. Your diet will likely be making you more insulin resistant once you are inevitably forced to eat properly again. You are damaging your body. Never lose sight of the fact that the longest lived most healthy populations on the planet eat mostly plants and fruit and next to no meat, eggs, fish or dairy. If you want to learn a little bit of the actual science you could begin with this ruclips.net/video/d14PhGWDV6c/видео.htmlsi=QlnfowGgfS73IHlJ
I eat a high carb low fat diet and it controls my T2 diabetes. Once in a while I can enjoy a fatty steak with no ill effect on blood sugar. Keto and carnivore folks do admit that after fat adaptation eating a plate of fruit spikes their glucose very high. Seems that keto carnivore doesn't solve diabetes just covers it up.
Wrong, ketones are an alternative/ supportive fuel for the brain....in case of fasting neurons can oxidize ketone bodies produced in the liver from fatty acids.
No you have been duped. Not sustainable and massively damaging to the body. If you would like to start a journey of education in real biochemistry this might help ruclips.net/video/d14PhGWDV6c/видео.htmlsi=QlnfowGgfS73IHlJ
Wow, what misinformation you lay out I've been diabetic for 25 years and I had high blood pressure at the same time. I was a vegan and I could not control my diabetes. I found the carnivore diet on March 22, 2024 was the last time I ate a carbohydrate and I will never eat another carbohydrate. My brain does not need a carbohydrate to function, I only eat steak butter eggs now and then a little salmon or lamb. I've no longer have type two diabetes. My A1c is now 5.4 so you're putting out a lot of misinformation. I don't know where you got your medical degree, but you gotta turn it back in
Dr. Fuhrman is correct. There is a lot of research behind what he says. Read the book "How Not to Age." The carnivore diet may reduce A1C in the short run, but it will increase the risk of heart disease or cancer in the long run.
This is wrong. How can eating animal fat something we have been eating for millions of years, going to all of a sudden damage our insulin receptors 😅 . The toxic fat from seed oils is really the culprit to blame
This is the 2nd video back to back I've watched tonight. I feel like I must have been living on a different planet than you have. At least you did mention that there are nefarious agendas that are poisoning our food and drink along with everything else that we need on this planet to survive. If what you have said as in a medical book were in fact the only invaders or the only situations that cause our early demise we might be able to accomplish your goals for good health and reversing diabetes wouldn't that be wonderful. Unfortunately we do not live on the corner of perfect. No mention was made of contaminated poisonous meds, intentional by the way, including the many vaccines that are pushed into us not just from birth as I've recently found out, but even when we are in the womb now. And it doesn't seem that is worth mention towards mortality? That's a subject for another time, but the qualifications you say that will cause diabetes isn't even the only cause. My son is a perfect example of being totally opposite to what you have said. So many things that you've said on this video haven't even been heard of in the world I live in!? And I assure you that most Drs are not informing their patients what you are saying. So is it any wonder then that when people do not get the correct information from the so called Dr being paid by us to properly inform and treat our health issues and being paid by a few freaks that think they own the world and us in it, they seem to take sides with the better paying and convincing side!? Why aren't you going around the country to present the scientific data and study results to we the people? Now I am mad that you have known these things and yet no one I know has ever mentioned any of them!? My son deserves better than this! By the way we live in Kansas in case want to come and help us and many others that are dealing with everything we are!? It would have been a great listen to otherwise! But my son won't believe me and it's going to be hard for even a health care provider bc he's heard all his life that type 1 diabetes is incurable so his mindset is just that. Well I know a man named Jesus who came here and died for all our sins in order that we would choose to live a life for him and not go to hell. He has a father who knows everything and he says that you are all wrong about life and death. He is the Alpha and Omega and there are people who are telling the truth about diseases, they have been created by evil men!😂
Oh I didn't mean that I've watched you twice, i watched another expert deliver basically the same info but much more foreign to what we've been brought up believing yet he's from a different religious background if that makes a difference?

Thank you for this wonderful and informative podcast. I will strongly recommend this to my patients, I may have to help with translation as not everyone speaks English very well. Dear dr. Fuhrman, I also recommend your G-Bombs. Greetings from Germany
It's a good rule of the thumb that food has to be quickly to leave the stomach slowly to enter the blood. You don't want to eat some undigestive mess that will be sitting on the stomach for 10 hours, but also not something so easy that in 2 hours it'll be all down the bloodstream.
Totally agree! That's a great way to put it. Thanks for sharing your insight!
Powerful!👍🏾💪🏾
I like using chronometer😊
Hi Dr can you show us how o make diner .
Most people don't have rice alone or bread alone. A Rice and beans meal, for example, have plenty of fiber, so wouldn't the glycemic load of that meal be lower. Same with bread.
Moderation in all things , eh.
Great question!
Thank you for this excellent video! I watched your video for the first time and i loved it.

@@richardjackson5380 I don't "guru" anyone. I use my critical listening and thinking to decide what to follow. 12 years ago, Fuhrman's PBS talks made so much sense in my head, they changed my eating habits. the Doc usually says cooked is better for mushrooms

@@surendarvijay2520 I do all that. It's how I got to an 80 glucose reading but only when I left the beans/quinoa out.
@@douglas2835 I see. Then it makes sense to limit carbs, if it’s clearly working.
No you will never fully reverse your insulin resistance eating meat. You are confusing short term benefit with long term damage. This might help ruclips.net/video/d14PhGWDV6c/видео.htmlsi=QlnfowGgfS73IHlJ
Interesting. My glucose is around 107. Will try this
I use oil free hummus as dressing. Does that count as my bean serving?
definitely goes towards it if you have a good portion, but more beans as a feature would be better!!
Well, that explains a lot.
Great message and info.
Jenna doesn’t need to say “fricken” as an adjective as emphasis please.
I appreciate that Dr. Fuhrman has learned to speak more slowly. It helps tremendously in hearing and understanding this healthy nutrition education.
Thank you so much for this podcast.
Jenna asks excellent questions to help people better understand these concepts.
Agree “ fricken” is for teenagers who have a limited vocabulary
I bought a book Eat 2 Live and it help me a lot after my Doctor told me to inject insuline because of my HBA1A of 18. I use the book in combination with prolong fasting, I.F., and O.M.A.D with HIIT and strength exercise. Now I don't even have taken my oral medicine.
I follow everything you say, I'm a real good nutritarian. My A1c has gone up this past 4 months, 5.8, and for quite a while, my fasting blood sugar has raised to 97-106 from 84-85. Where do i turn for help, my Dr. has no idea.

Is your program like the one that Dr. McDougal has?
No… this Dr Fuhrman would not recommend so much starch. His focus is more on raw vegetables. But similar in that they are both vegan.
Sorry,I was wrong about the focus on raw food. But Dr Fuhrman suggests eating GBOMBS:
G=Greens
B=Beans
O=Onion(raw)
M=Mushrooms(cooked)
B=Berries
S=Seeds and Nuts
Dr Fuhrman explains in his books how these 6 foods/categories of foods are essential.
What you expect ! The government changed our food because when i was a small child i could eat all carbonated food no problem. It started when the government messed with our foods.
@@sectionalsofa Thank you. I never heard of that doctor. Do you have a link?

Congratulations on your 15-year nutritarian journey! It's wonderful to hear about your health improvements. For your wife's issue, consider adjusting the balance of cooked vs. raw vegetables, or incorporating more cooked leafy greens and squashes. Chia seeds soaked in water can also help. Remember, staying hydrated is crucial.
If the problem persists, it may be wise to consult with a gastroenterologist for a thorough evaluation.
I eat raw veg and meat raw onions too sometimes brown rice. Can.i eat mangoes?
Hi you can eat a face of a mango when you feel like eating a mango I grew up on.mangoes no worries??
Have always so identified with your passion to get the message out that we need to do the best things for ourselves, and not settle.
It was a choice of becoming a Nutritarian or a life on Metformin. I am thinking this is the way.

It's bad because unfortunately most follow the myths and assumptions of 150 years ago and eat carnivore/keto and run high insulin levels.

Dr. Paul Saladino advocates eating raw unfiltered honey which doesn't make sense for diabetics in that honey has high glycemic load

Ketones feed the brain as well as glucose. Or better.
What exactly are ketones?
I've been on Keto for 6 years now, you don't need carbs for energy the body can convert fat, and you don't need fiber, so eat lots of fat, butter and olive oil, and you will not get diabetes.
Read EAT TO LIVE
The body uses Keto’s to run on too, not just sugar (glucose) I think you need to correct what you said.
Lots of words no info😠
There's nothing wrong with eating meat and dairy. Carnivores seem to be healthy.

Wrong, ketones are an alternative/ supportive fuel for the brain....in case of fasting neurons can oxidize ketone bodies produced in the liver from fatty acids.

I don't know where you got your medical degree, but you gotta turn it back in
You could have been a vegan swiming in saturated fats…and what degree do you have😂 be nicer please, the world would appreciate❤
Dr. Fuhrman is correct. There is a lot of research behind what he says. Read the book "How Not to Age." The carnivore diet may reduce A1C in the short run, but it will increase the risk of heart disease or cancer in the long run.
Hmm! Carnivore 4 months - now an expert - come back in 11 years -,give results if you want someone to listen to you - better yet 20 yrs😊
And you're right dishonest people keep listening to Furham he is going to kill you meat butter and eggs grass feed of course wow
Can you tell us what to eat and not all the what's going on.
This is wrong. How can eating animal fat something we have been eating for millions of years, going to all of a sudden damage our insulin receptors 😅 . The toxic fat from seed oils is really the culprit to blame
She shouldn't speak
Maybe it's you that shouldn't comment.
36:31 Don't blame the Doctor and his daughter.No one is responsible for your health but you.Telling him he knows all this but doesn't tell the world is utter nonsense.
