While we were in NYC for our show this week, I had the distinct pleasure of getting together with Josh Turner to make some music in his Brooklyn space. I have admired Josh’s musicianship (and his taste in music) for a very long time, so it was really cool to be able to play with him, and in person no less!
“Morse Code” is one of my songs off our album The Cooling, and I hope you enjoy this arrangement of it!
We also did another song on Josh’s channel with Carson McKee and Toni Lindgren joining us, so head over there to check it out: • Dooley - Feat Reina an...

Lyrics to "Morse Code":
You had the postal service
you had the telephone wire
there were passenger pigeons
to take your words up higher
There were walkie talkies
fiber optic repeat
there were infinite channels
between you and me
It don't matter, pretty baby
it was a note upon your door
it don't matter how you said it
you don't love me no more
you don't love me no more
you don't love me no more
Now I could hijack the airwaves
to say I want you back
I could put us in a novel
and rewrite the past
I could string up the words
behind a long aeroplane
and wait for your answer
to come back again
It don't matter, pretty baby
if I find the words I'm looking for
it don't matter how I say it
you don't love me no more
I could hire a man
to swim across the sea
and plant a little kiss
on your cheek for me
I could write you a letter
and cross all my tees
and put it in the belly
of a great submarine
But it don't matter, pretty baby
if my words never reach the shore
it don't matter if I say it
you don't love me no more
I could put a lonely billboard
on every city road
or have the stars blotted out
in a brilliant Morse code
Wouldn't make no difference, pretty baby
you don't love me no more
it don't matter, pretty baby
you don't love me no more
you don't love me no more
you don't love me no more
I am a 76 year old senior and was moved to tears listning to these two play and sing togeather. this is what i call beautifull music
kenneth french god bless you man
I'm 65. As someone said above the future is in good hands.
You said rightly~
They are touching our feelings with their beautiful tunes. from Seoul
Just beautiful....
May God bless you man, indeed the song is quite pretty and sweetly emotional.
I have been following these kids for several years..In all of my 76 years, I am still moved by all of the emotion when Toni, Josh, Carson and Elle along with Andrew get together to move Heaven and Earth !!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you guys for the tears and laughs.
I thought this was a classic song written by one of the greats long long ago. I was wrong. It is a classic song written by one of the greats of TODAY! Brilliant writing. Brilliant singing. Brilliant musicianship. Brilliant harmonies. Love love love it!
Sooooooo much of what they do hits that way, sounds like some novel kind o' familiar
A novel familiar, sounds like a good song
I totally agree. Such an amazing song.
I think I’ve just heard one of the most beautiful songs of my entire life.
When your two favorite independent artists do a song together... happiness.
Precisely. Ahhh
I'm so glad you got together. You need to colloberate more in the future!
Wow 😮 ... absolutely beautiful ! Both are simply amazing !
👍! Twitter isn’t even my Twitter Positive. I 💭! Twitter isn’t even my Twitter Post is that one ☝️ was the last time of our year in our younger brother who had the best Christmas 🎄 with this year and he has been a great 👍 last year and I love 💖. Twitter isn’t even my Twitter Post this morning and my life is not even my life right now and I’m not sure what to say about it after today but my brother is just wondering if you can get him a little bit more time and I will let her know if that’s the wayside or not but 6 o’clock in the evening 57? Hi 👋
So you been listening for two years and I had to wait till today? Selfish. Well, at least RUclips finally clued me in.
Two beatiful guitars, two beautiful voices, two beautiful pixies.
The future of American folk music is secure. Great, great. Thank you.
~Truth~!
*the future of a̶m̶e̶r̶i̶c̶a̶n̶ music is in secure
@@typer93 Exactly. Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Buffy Ste Marie, would agree, folk music doesn't need a country.
Uwag!
Yeah!
Bar none, that is the most precise, exact, original and beautiful guitar solo I have ever heard. And I have heard plenty. It deserves to be broadcast, with a capital B, around the world. Young Josh is possessed of an astonishing talent. And that's astonishing with a capital A. Some real magic taking place here. Overwhelmingly intelligent, overwhelmingly musical, overwhelmingly a wonder.
And he probably heard the song for the first time only days (if not hours) before. He was reading the lyrics on the coffee table.
@@robrussell5329000000000000⁰0⁰
This one of those perfect versions of a song.
It's artists like these who renew my faith in new music!
I feel the exact same way 😊
James Taylor, Jim Croce, Harry Chapin, Joanie Mitchell, Simon and Garfunkel.....I'm a grown up "child of the 60's." Discovered Josh a while a go, and you, Reina within the last few months. Just want you BOTH to know how heartening it is to have excellent musicians singing and playing with the skill and passion of long ago... now, in the 21st century. Many thanks!!
I
Such a beautiful and true thing to say.
Hear hear, well said
From Australia, sincerely agree.
totally agree, from Thailand
You guys did something amazing. I live in Russia, my English is very bad, I hardly understand the text, I am 46 years old :). But this song makes me cry with light sadness. Again and again. Thank you so much for that.
You English is just wonderful. The success is in the trying. Thank you for trying.
Try the dead south
I think that your English is beter then mine and for me is Great Brittannië near the door.
This music is indeed very beautifull! Greetings from The Netherlands.
@@jellereitsma9182 it's not me. This is Google translator. I'm a little ashamed that I misled people
@@МаксимЗебарев Теперь мы оба использовали его. Музыка - это универсальный язык, так что не стыдись брат
When the four of you get together, I feel like it's a gathering of the four most beautiful people in our world.
Josh always finds a way to make these recordings special.
This was so sweet. One thing that I really appreciate about Josh, Reina, Toni, Carson, is this: they do not yell when they sing. They sing. They sing when they sing. What a concept.
Nielsenfm Amen!
Agreed. No bravado, ego or attitude. They let their talent speak just as the great artists they cover. Can't thank you enough for sharing your gifts of music.
👍🙏❤️🙏👏
You made me realise this, thanks! This is probably, among other things, why I like this people and music so much :)
Well said!
"I could put a lonely billboard on every city road or have the stars blotted out in a brilliant Morse code." Is my favorite lyric from any song of the past 10 years. I just love the imagery in this whole song.
It’s a clever song. A beautiful song. I keep coming back to see if it’s as good as I remember, and it is.
Dudes a friggin magician with the guitar
I'm 68 years old and you guys are one of the best things to come along in the last 68 years 👌👍
I'm 16 I write and play folk. Not everyone is into real music anymore so It's awesome to find other people playing actual folk music out here.
two stars, undoubtly
The way Josh started doubling the notes towards the end. What a rendition.
Flawless vocals and rhythm.
Josh's solo is steeped in respect for the craft and for a fellow musician
Simply beautiful.
Good lord you two sound good together
Agreed!
Agreed, except the "good lord" part. Hahaha.
@@MultiCappie possibly a misspelling of "Oh lordy lordy!". lol
@@MultiCappie I do, to both!! 😂
If you don't follow both Reina and Josh's channels you are really missing something. Great individual talents and when they combine - Wow!
The future of beautiful music and artistry are in great hands with you young artists…including Toni and Carson
God I love this. Reina may be the best songwriter alive. Just beautiful.
That thing they do at the end when they look at each other at the end of the song, like they are both agreeing to end a perfect song. It's just magic.
Two fantastic singers, and two fantastic guitarists, what a combination.
I'm 70 years Young, I love this song, heartbreaking I guess for some to think that you identify with it. I identify with it! My/our journey includes many, many loved ones and loves! Sometimes a song can be so magically powerfully that it has the uncanny ability to take us back to a time and place in our lives where those old feelings just flood our reality, once again! This is one of those songs, Bravo!!!
This song with Josh is a winner and I would recommend pitting together a record of quieter songs such as this. Wonderful.
From France always tears in my eyes with this song
Thank you Reina and Josh
I've followed these two for the last couple years on their separate channels and when they collaborate. Their timing and style is always technically perfect. I recommend them to anybody wanting to hear great music.
Love you guys . . . and yes, I have my tickets for Indianapolis show. Thanks for stopping off near us . . .
This might be the most beautiful thing I've ever heard
Class of '69. I cannot tell you how happy I am to have discovered you two. I love listening to the old favorites, but your original songs are so true to that musical tradition. Beautiful voices used to sing a song, not show off vocal virtuosity. Guitars providing a beautiful accompaniment, not screaming out discord. Perhaps there is hope...
Class of 69 here too. Listening from northern Colorado.
This has been one of my favorite songs for years. I remember a couple years ago, Reina and Toni came to Slovenia and had a little performance at a bar. At the end they asked if anyone had any requests and I screamed Morse code and they performed it! Still one of my favorite moments!!! Hahaha.
They have special musical chemistry. Can't walk away from that.
These two look alike, this is the new generation of young people showing what they got. Beautiful!
That harmony at 2:10 is something other worldly. I wish I could forget I heard it and hear it again for the first time. ❤️❤️❤️
Listening to this yet again today. Still the best thing I've heard over the last 5 years...love what you both do!
This song should be on radio. This one of your very best Miss Riena. I am 64, know almost nothing about composing or playing ... and I know what I like. A beautiful song, very well done.
I've listen to this song 50 times and it's still beautiful!! It never gets old!
There is no reason why this beautiful song should not end up a classic of folk music, sung through the ages. Masterpiece.
My Lord but i love you guys. You bring sunshine to my Sunday Mornings. Thank You.
What a heck of a song, a cool Appalachian creek in the springtime, a lying in a grassy meadow watching the clouds and contemplating the sad end of a meaningful relationship. This too shall pass, a message we could all use in these trying times. A message and music delivered by two of this generation's finest. singer songwriters. A sweet melody and gentle voices. Thanks!
I'm 66 years old and I absolutely love you guys. Been Playing guitar for over 55 years and I can't play, you're amazing!
This is truly a powerful song. Not only do you have the emotion they sing with but the emotion they play with as well. Like the guitar solo was relatable... I love when that happens.
The finest superlatives pale and do not suffice. This was OUTSTANDING !
This is one of those rare songs that I liked pretty much instantly. Beautiful melody, harmonies, imagery and that lead is great too!
Is this the most intelligent, precise and flawless guitar solo ever played? From about 2:45 to 3:20. It is miraculous. Properly a wonder. The more I listen, the more I am amazed.
He's fantastic, isn't he? Not to forget the perfect match of their voices. Made to sing together.
i love everything about this song ... and agree this guitar solo is absolutely fantastic
It sounds like Bach playing the guitar.
Its nice playing and pleasant to listen to. But I'd suggest listening to a lot more guitar solos, from many more styles, if this is the peak of the mountain for you.
I'm inclined to agree.
Wow, that is a powerful song so delicate in its presentation. Your chorus harmonies are inviting like a warm bed on a cold winter night.
Helluva duet, two great voices in harmony and a love ballad and two Martin acoustics. Absolutely superb. More please.
What could be better than a josh and Reina duet ? Only a reina and toni duet.
Reina this song is as good as a bob dylan or guy Clark song. It should win a Grammy .someone should put it in the soundtrack of a movie. Then it could win a Oscar. I f-ing love it😊❤🎼🎶🎵🎵🎸
Now this is folk music the way it should be. Shalom
This is way beyond just professional . . . . its just pure magic! Thank goodness for music like this.
Beautiful song. This would have been a chart-topper in 1997. There is too much noise drowning out the really talented people like you all today.
That last is true enough, but I wonder how many independent artists not signed with a major label, ever had chart-topping hits? Anyway I'm very happy that against all the odds, RUclips introduced me to this one!
I see I commented on this three years ago. I still love it. Really Reina, great songwriting job, and such a nice collaboration with Josh.
Songs like this aren't created, they're discovered. Thank you my fellow gopher. Respect and admiration to you.
WOW! I AM 66 AND HAVE BEEN LISTENING TO FOLK/ACOUSTIC MUSIC FOR A LONG TIME.THIS WAS AMAZING-A GREAT SONG BEAUTIFULLY PLAYED WITH SUBTLE SENSITIVITY. I KEEP REPLAYING IT OVER AND OVER-NEVER STOP PLAYING.
I come back for this one a lot. It's Yesterday-level IMO. Gold.
As I've said before, Josh and his friends and now Reina have restored my faith in the youth of today. Having this kinda love for music and songwriting coming out again is what created my love for music ages ago and across the spectrum of genre and artists. This song seems so familiar and spontaneous that I know it will breed success. God Bless you!!
They have always been there. I kind of hate that nasty presumption.
Josh, Reina, Toni, & Company are proving that Great Music is Eternal!
Do you actually listen to new music? The assumption that newer artists don’t care about songwriting could not be further from the truth…
Josh has such diversification in many different styles of his music he plays. He also plays a great mandolin, banjo & is a distinguish vocalist. Truly brilliant.
You two are so cute together. Awesome song, and a great duo singing and playing.
If I could sit down and sound like that, I’d never get up! ❤️
A RUclips commenter recommended I check out Josh Turner and I will never be able to thank this kind faceless stranger enough.
Living through a time where ordinary and powerful people of all ilk and political persuasion are bent on condemning and tearing down with abandon and little thought. So heartening and hopeful to see young people honoring their past and present by showcasing the best of it and creating something of their own.
saw your comment - totally random, but how I agree with you! Josh and all his collabs freakishly good skills. All of them
@@judedavistown Thank you, Jude, for responding. I am not a musician, but those who are, have great admiration for this young man. I just appreciate his music and how happy it makes me feel.
You ignore Josh Turner at your own peril!
This is among my favorite songs ever written.
Two great voices making great harmony. Heaven on earth.
Josh's guitar is a mirror image to Reina's voice in tone and quality. So beautiful.
In the last week I discovered Justin Townes Earl, Josh Turner and Reina del Cid. It's been a long time since I've found so much good music in such a short time. You guys are really good.
I never stopped to count but I reckon I've listened to this hundreds of times. Easily my favorite Josh & Rachelle collab.
I'm signed into RUclips for some time. This is my very first comment ever.
I'm absolutly blown away by this song and the collaboration between you two.
Your voices match perfectly together.
This is pure art and talent in every way.
All the best. Greetings from Germany.
My faith in humanity is restored. Beautiful.
This is is a perfectly constructed, crushing song.
Every few months I need to come back and listen, it's simply perfect 👌🏻
Ditto.
Yep! I heard Reina sing part of it on Tiktok and had to come hear the full version again.
Me too!
Love to hear Elle sing! And she and Josh make an outstanding duo!
I spent all night ( two nights and part of the day's listening to you guys and all your wonderfully enjoyable real enjoyable -- 74 year old guitar player who enjoys the sound of strings and singing ==
Only two words....SPECIAL.....FABULOUS
Reina has such a smooth, honey voice. You make singing sound so smooth and effortless with an amazing timber in your voice and stunning rythmn guitar. What as awesome piece you both put together!
4:15 Josh's harmony is gorgeous, and he can't fully hide the resulting smile.
I know I keep commenting on this song. I can’t help it. It’s the most beautiful, perfect song and performance there is.
These are two people worth following anywhere 🎶🎶
You two are both such amazing musicians really felt this one. For anyone in Canada who doesn't know - Reina and Toni are playing in Toronto on 4.17.19 at the Small World Music Centre. Get your tickets now before they sell out! :)
Beautiful song and Josh’s solo is so tasteful
I like the softness of the song and Josh's playing is absolutely stellar. He must be one of the finest guitarists around that can be so generous with what he brings and still be so delicately modest to not take over the song.
It just gets better and better the more I listen
I just realized that this is your song! This is one of the most beautiful songs I think I have ever heard.
Thanks for all the pleasure you give me. I'd like so much playing the guitar as you do. Kiss from France.
Both of your channels are my guilty pleasures each week. It's when I can sit with my headphones, kids finally asleep, work finally done, and just disappear into your music. I started playing guitar (at age 42) because of Josh. It makes me so happy to see this come together. I wish you both all of the success and happiness your talents and hearts truly deserve.
Also this song is achingly beautiful.
You're right!!!
I think Josh has inspired a lot of people with his music. I know I'm trying to be a better musician.
I don't know for you but Elle's soft voice somehow manages to reach the deepest of my brain cells, making them resonate with peaceful love waves.
Jeez, this is an original? One of my favorite songs I've heard in ages. Seriously you two, the lyrics are so nostalgic, visual, downright moving. I love that the line with "Morse Code" in it doesn't show up til the end.. Both of you nailed the vibe in your playing and your singing. And Josh, what a tasteful solo... wow.
You've written many great songs but this one has got to be one of the top five hits. Come to Toronto.
Songs like this takes my soul away. It makes the newness of the day.
This brought tears to my eyes...again.
Can't remember the last time I had the kind of goosebumps this song gives.
Incredible song, and performance.
These are literally two of my favorite people. Wish I actually knew them.
Their voices are perfectly honest. They fit so well together. What a great song too.
I never get tired of listening to it. beautiful song. very good.
I am a donut from the planet tharg and in all my 273 years have never hear anything so sweet, these earthlings are very good, I am very close to experiencing what you would call "emotion"
