Its not about nostalgia, its about facts. Who do you think is better in AIC, Layne Staley or Duvall? The best music they ever did was with David behind the kit. Ray is in the band longer than Silveria now, and their set list still is made from old songs for the big majority. That speaks for itself

He never had issues with his band mates. and BTW that late 90s Nu metal sound you looking for is long gone now, most Nu-Metal bands have evolved to something else and I love the current Korn sound.
@@kodemasterx And i never said that i was looking for the "nu metal" sound ( btw, i never considered Korn nu metal. At least for the majority of their early albuns. To me nu metal is a term made by the media to label the dozens of copycats that appeared after them ) But since you are talking about that, they are more "nu metal" now than ever, with their flat predictable music. Most nu metal bands are dead for a long time. They didn't envolved. Being Deftones the only good exception. But then again, they also were never nu metal.
Actually, Head also talked shit about them and even said that he was no interested to return to Korn. But the band knew that after losing 2 original members, they would never be the same and probably were fated to end. Head also realized that having a solo career playing Korn style of music, was just a wet dream. So they just swallow their pride and rejoined.
You really know David very well, to call him a very toxic person and ignore for complete the behavior from the rest of the band towards him.

I just miss the whole korn sound from 1998
There was a concert in 2018 when they played songs from the 1998 album Follow the Leader because of the albums 20th anniversary. It sounded like the album and Jon even dressed like he did in ‘98 as well.
David was a part of what made Korns sound so unique. Ray is a cookie cutter drummer. He’s at his best when playing David’s tracks Lol
David is the real deal!! He created that sound for the band. Hard to replace it.

@@5150Reaper Ray is the best thing to ever happen to KORN. Dave jumped ship for addiction and Ray saved them. He is a WAY more accomplished drummer than David, look at his background. David is a monster on drums but Ray is the most versatile drummer out there right now.

To me David and Fieldy’s music together make a bond. The bass and the groovy drums go together so well. That’s what makes KoRn. Take out the groovy drums, no more groove.

It's like how they say Jimi wasn't the best technically, but the way he made the guitar sing made him the greatest... Ray, although tighter and amazing in his own right , can not make those drums groove and flow with the music the way David does. There's an erratic fluidity to David's drumming that creates this frenetic energy that is just so powerful!

Both are great, but David changed the game. David's beat is unique and inspired thousands of drummers, including me. I basically play drums thinking as David. That's how much I'm influenced by his trademark drumming beats🤗⛼🌌

Ray is great drummer, so he can play korn songs great but this is all David's work to get this songs sounds raw and groovy, not like perfectly in time 0-1 computer beats like Ray often does. David is one who make character of korn, Ray only get notes and play. To this day i have a feeling that Ray is a temporary replacement for a drummer in korn. If a make a mistake, sorry for my english.
I prefer the sound of David's toms. It's not even close. Ray is great and the band succeeds with him. But I prefer David's grooves and sound.
Arguably, Ray is "technically better" than David, but just like in the case of Dream Theater, sometimes technically better doesn't mean better overall. There's some attitude, some groove that is unique to each drummer and, on that, I think David was better for this band. I still love Ray and, in his own right, to this day, he's been the longest standing drummer in Korn (David 13 years, Ray 14 and counting). So, Ray is Korn's drummer, no doubt about it... but, yeah, I miss Dave.

David got the groove which makes KoRn sound like KoRn, Ray is just a technique freak who destroys the songs of KoRn, he should be just drumming alone... as simple as that.. The guy is always doing to much on the drums. play FOR the music not against it dude! David, in all of his time by KoRn, made songs sound better, groovy and heavier because he just would let the guitars sound havier and make you want to jump to the rythm of the songs. oh boy... KoRn isn't KoRn anymore since he left. Ray isn't a bad drummer, dont get me wrong, but he isn't a drummer for a band. at least not for KoRn.... period.

Thats where i disagree, he gives more life and flare to the song. He's by far one of my most favorite drummers out there on metal. He brings something Unique to Korn the way David gave his own in back when he was still in the band both equally talented drummers but I just prefer Ray more

Rays the technical studio drummer, Dave was power and emotion
David lays his drum on other players very harmonically, which makes the song sound deeper and more powerful. Ray shows off in my opinion, though he is a good drummer too.
Also David chooses drum cymbals closer to the tone of the song.

david hat a certain power and groove, some kind of heavyness. naturally playing laid back wich formed the deep rhytmic sound of korn. in my humble opinion ray is a beast studio drummer who can smell a clicktrack from a mile away and david is the kind of guy who brings ruff energy to the table. played with a drummer like david for some years, he was by far my favourite. his timing wasnt the best if you searched for it but venues were cooking with his style. hard to describe

Old Video but, David by far he has his small rolls that ray couldn’t get down or do an to me ray plays out of tempo to me an sounds like basic cover drummer. David was more in tune with the band in my opinion.

Never liked Ray as a drummer for Korn. Seems like a nice guy and he’s held it down on albums but the songs I imagine would be much better if David was on them. Also I feel fieldy is a lost cause without David. David may be a “prick” as stated by others but he’s right when he said he brings funk to the group. I also feel that if Fieldy began to utilize and emphasize his signature slap bass technique that the band would also sound much better even with Ray. He’s often buried in the mix and if he is slapping, it sounds very weak
Yes. They may not like each other now. But Fieldy and David were the perfect backbone. I also feel that Fieldy bass tone is buried in the mix and don't match Luzier busy drumming

Ray plays the song, he doesn't just keep a time, every cymbal smash and fill goes in time with the riff, which I think is a cool touch, and also quite difficult as one tiny misstep can make it sound out of time and quite shitty.
Imo, its exactly the opposite! Ray plays everything but the song. He does so much fills that ended up killing the vibe of the song. Some one very wise once said "what you choose to play is so important as what you choose not to play".
David is the one and only drummer of Korn i haven't listened since he left, anyway Gojira are much better today, David need to come back to bring back the roots. Of this band.
David rejoining the band would not make them sound like they did 25 years ago unfortunately. They’re all totally different people now and even David can’t match his former self if you listen him play with his new band now.

A good example would be shoots and ladders, there’s a real special pocket David and fieldy were in on that one go check Woodstock 99, to my ear ray just does not get it. And he always plays too fast or too slow. Still a technical beast yes but that’s it- would be good for a hair metal band imo

Rays drum tone live sounds a lot fuller, their both different and great players but both from different Korn eras, and we should leave it at that. I think it’s awesome these guys are still around touring and making new albums, with all the drugs they’ve done lol
to be fair this video never really done ray luzier any justice, as much as i love the original silveras style he was brilliant but also simplistic, which sometimes makes a song even better as much as i feel luzier is technically gifted he gambles more adding extra scoresand not needed fills more which on a bad day could sound disgusting like what we just saw in his live version but none the less he didnt murder the song entirely.
