Ray and David just have completely different styles . Ray is a great drummer, his fills are good and gives a solid rock beat that never misses the tempo. But David had a flair for break and off beats , which complemented fieldys slap bass style giving Korn a hip hop undertone. Ray is the best choice for the band in this next part of their career. Ray has now been in the band longer than David lol and plays with great passion and can breath which helps 😀
Could that have been because of his physical problems? Drums will destroy every joint you have. They shoulda took a few years off, but the business end wouldnt allow, and that, at one point or another, has chewed up each member and spit them out.

David for me he's the original part of korn and there sound has changed since hes left Korn debut and follow the leader are the 2 best albums and without David I don't think they would of sounded as good
Idk if this makes sense to anybody but I like Dave more cuz I feel like he plays more funky styles that you could see somebody make a 90s rap song off of. I feel like that funk sound mixes so well with how dark Korn is as a whole.
@@aliciaolson9119 Yep ppl r dumb now. They don't even understand when some one in a comment is basically saying that the way some band plays an old song now with their "new" drummer, is so diferent that it sounds like a diferent song.
Only drummers will understand why David makes the song sound better. Metal players aren’t good with playing behind the beat. They can’t swing. That’s why Joey Jordison never really fit with them. Ringo played the same way, that’s why David is not better but makes the song sound better.
Just at a show 2 days ago and Ray just killed it. 2 drum solos that got the crowd pumped. JD is still recovering from covid so Ray picked up the lost energy. Remember David walked away. Ray stepped into the band
Korn's best music is during the DS era, so people will remember him more fondly and say that his drumming was more suited to their sound, etc. But RL is a MUCH better drummer, hands down. This is the best upgrade at the kit since Rush got Neil Peart.
Yes I agree with the statement that David was groovy and Ray is highly technical drummer but also people have to take into consideration that over time Korns sound have changed and even their new albums and new songs have actually change. So it would be unfair to solely attribute the change in Korns sound to just one member-Ray, who happen to came in when Korn members are a bit older already. The truth is the whole band have changed and you can also say theyve matured after all these years. The angst, hate and drive may have been depleted a bit but theyre still Korn. And besides this phenomenon happens to all rock bands, infact it applies to all musicians. They tend to change as they mature and that unfortunately, includes their sound and song creation.
They sound quite similar, I wouldn’t even say I prefer one over the other. Although there is a good point for keeping the original 5 together, it’s not the same otherwise
Ray is a great drummer but David is the perfect drummer for Korn when it comes to composition. He just has that funk groove that goes so well with Fieldy’s percussive bass. They no longer have that magic in new albums since Ray joined
david made korn style drumming. and after david korn need someone can drumming like david for more quality so they chosen ray and ray right now playing drum like david like korn want
we should not compare drumming from the 90s to the present years, one thing is for sure once it was played from the bottom of our heart, today we play for popularity
I gotta admit David has the proper Korn sounds, but fuck it; Ray sounds great and he has brought his own contribution to their new sound. W.e makes my favorite childhood band happy makes me happy.
The TRULY REMARKABLE THING ABOUT DAVID´S DRUMS: his snare sounds diffent than all other bands. Most rock and metal snares are kinda soft, but David´s is really hard, present and "snappy", you know? David even got an injury, because he used extra heavy drumsticks. Can you all agree with me on David´s snare sounds different? Korn was never a technical Band like Slipknot with outstanding Joey, or Guns N Roses with outstanding guitar of Slash. Korn is unique tho. Each member has something unique. Fieldys superlow slapbass, munkeys and heads superlow tuned guitars and weird and cool guitar noises they play in verses of songs. Davids unique strong clappy drum and Jonathans whispering\growling\singing. It all comes together and there is one of my favourite band EVER EXISTED ==)) So, to answer the question - respect to Ray, but David all day long! The musical style has changed after "Issues" anyway. It-s a pity, but we love corn, the NU METAL band, not Korn the alternative\industrial rock band. Much love to all Korn members anyway and all Korn fans! It´s true love! (no homo=)
It's hard to say! Love the stuff David put forth in " Life is Peachy" and wish he had built more on that. David had a great way of marrying Jazz, Hip Hop, and Rock together in that album. Ray is much more talented in diversity of styles and maybe a overkill for Korn. I could see Ray playing in Tool, NIN, or anything that's more technical in Rhythm and uses other time signatures, where as Korn is basically every song is 4/4 time. But the politics of a Rock Band as big as Korn has doomed David from ever returning. David first has to build a friendship back then maybe think about side projects with members of the Band. Every members of Korn have a side thing going on and how cool would it be to see David playing with JD or Munky. It's sad in a way, but at this point it is what it is. I'm surprised David hasn't found other gigs with other bands.
This comment section is one of the few bastions of sanity on the internet lol. Ray is just too clean and overplays a lot, both of which inhibit the primal groove that was a core piece of KoRn's sound with David.
I like David's drumming better, Ray is great at the drums and is great but David has the groove. The way David drums I think sounds better and it makes the bands songs perfect.
Sorry, as a drummer Ray is an absolute inspiration to style, intensity, and performer as a metal drummer. He’s on point and extremely creative, which is why I feel Korn has still been so mainstream! David is great, but Ray came in and made it his own and then some! Ray>David!
Ray is a great Rock n' Roll typical drummer and a master of it, but David is "THE" KOrN. Without David, nor Jonathan, Fieldy, Head and Munky from the start, then there would never been that kind of a blast from the 90s..
Ray is more technically proficient. But David's groove is hard to duplicate and definitely was the X-factor in that band. I don't even like Korn except for maybe 2 or 3 of their songs... But I do like David's drumming.
First of all, I think we all MUST separate Korn in two eras: Nu metal - Alternative Rock/Metal. The first one (which is the one who makes me love that unique style called Korn) its marked by those hiphop breaks that Silveria did and Fieldys basslines as well. Second one its marked by the evolution of Korn, the way that they took to finally separate them from that young era. The band begun to add more juice on live performance and albums too. We can get noticed of that intention with that dubstep album... yall can love it, hate it or just dont give a fuck like me. Even if they would want to get back to that first era, it would sound rare and probably not so good because theyre not that band anymore. And sorry for disappointing you but 90s nu metal does not get paid today haha. With that being said, I think what Ray does makes this new Korn more digestible. You can feel that power he has with his extremely techique grooves and fills. Nobody can say that watching this Korn live is not funny. They make a full unique performance that I just dont saw in others 90s nu metal bands. And thats a major part thanks to Ray's energy on drums. Im getting a lil tired of reading comments on all the videos calling out Ray, saying hes not good enough for Korn... Like, that 90s/ early 00s korn does not exist anymore and the whole band took that way and personally I love watching them performing the classics songs. Sounds more way better for me.
@@mod3rnwarrior34 agree... i grow up with the first 2 albums and now in my 40s ray make me back to enjoy korn again.- technical(nu)metal for old farts...sorry old fans xD
Yes ..David wrote good drum grooves in the 90s we all loved it ..all the way up to follow the leader and they started sucking ..David even ran out of licks to write ..with that being said he rocked that shit in the 90s..but that got played out ...and so did David..he just couldn't keep up as they matured....Ray brought them back from the dead...and I'd like to see david try to play Ray new grooves ..he couldn't keep up ..he to choppy ..and feildy ,and munk, and head ...just play faster now ..they write the music they needed a skilled beast backing them ..
The Ray vs David debate will always have the same answer: it's up to each person's taste. I prefer David, but preferring him doesn't mean I don't appreciate the beast Ray is. Honestly, the only thing we can see in this video is how much Jonathan has improved over the years.

I think David Silveria makes you feel in the street, where we should enjoy this freeking music, and Ray in a cyrcus where you see how exact the clowns can play the drum without fall
Ray Luzier 4ever! 👌🏻
David just makes the “korn” sound, Ray is awesome and they’ve made fantastic sounding tracks together but David had such a good use of his fills with the Tom and snare drum
I seen korn live with David and Ray.
David was amazing and had great enthusiasm in the earlier years, but must say his fills started to disappear in the songs live and the songs suffered from it.
@@in2anthr yeah he did suffer from wrist problems and more than likely because he uses those big marching band style drum sticks. I love both drummers and David was a huge influence on my playing. Yeah if they taken a few years off who knows what we would be hearing from them now musically. Ray is a great fit 👌 for them over the last 14 or so years
Silveria, without a doubt!!
I miss David’s hip hop break beats that made me love korns crossover sound. Bring back the bungle inspired breaks that was they roots.
Dave! Ray is great, but David will always be my favorite for Korn.
I prefer Ray especially when it comes to tempo and creativity. You can hear at 0:34 how Silveria is rushing first and then gets slower.
Yes, David created the original drums but I like Ray more. IMO
Sorry but no.. David is better
wtf that was great, I love those changes in good old korn
Well David has stated he doesn't play with a click track
Yeah i respect this opinion.
If he's so creative make a better song than silveria top hit freak on a leash
I've always wanted to see David back! However, I love Ray's koRny fill-ins. What if they just added David back into the band and kept Ray too? Doesn't Slipknot have more than one percussionists?
David doesn't give a sh!t about Korn. He even said he hasn't heard any of their music since he left, which wasn't cause he disliked them but cause he was disinterested. Yet he lobbied his fans to get him back into Korn. The dude just wanted a paycheck. Ray is good for Korn.
Can we talk about munky nailing them backup vocals though? 😂
Ryan Martini slapping da bass for Korn was awesome.
Yes it was!! Br br deng, lol!! Thanks for watching!
David all day. As other people are saying, its not that i hate ray, hes a great drummer, but man david had such a groove. He, vinnie paul, chris kontos and igor cavalera are my favourite drummers.
Sometimes less is more and that's why Davids style fits best for that koRn sound we all ❤️
Ray! Com certeza. Um dos melhores, o cara é um monstro na batera 🤘
“Boiyting moi, boiyting moi down, down, into the ground.”
Lol!
I don't know why Jonathan sings Falling away from me chorus like that in live concerts, it sounds kinda weird xD
Prime example of why the song writing is so different. Havent been the same since they parted.
David for me he's the original part of korn and there sound has changed since hes left
Korn debut and follow the leader are the 2 best albums and without David I don't think they would of sounded as good
David 🥂
"Okay, Ray, we're about to play 'Need To', can you please play the simpler drum part from the album version?"
"Why do I... really need to?"
Ray is much better. Groovy, good dynamics, good fills. Is just amazing
Idk if this makes sense to anybody but I like Dave more cuz I feel like he plays more funky styles that you could see somebody make a 90s rap song off of.
I feel like that funk sound mixes so well with how dark Korn is as a whole.
Agreed! Dave 🥁 💯%
David all day every day.
Korn made a cover of falling away from Me?? Ray's fills honestly sound out of context
How? It’s their own song so it’s not a cover. Ppl r dumb these days
@@aliciaolson9119 Yep ppl r dumb now. They don't even understand when some one in a comment is basically saying that the way some band plays an old song now with their "new" drummer, is so diferent that it sounds like a diferent song.
Ray Luzier in the streets
David Silveria in the sheets
@1:19 The Undertaker appears.
Ray is such a monster, its clearly way better than David, he has an amazing feeling for the drum parts, freaking monster.
i disagree ray does way too many fills in my opinion David kept it sweet and simple he was complex.
@@WH1T3GH05T David did a great job, my preference is Ray because I'm a drummer so his fills always get me.
They sound quite similar, I wouldn’t even say I prefer one over the other. Although there is a good point for keeping the original 5 together, it’s not the same otherwise
David is a BEAST
I still think it’s awesome to see ryan martini to fill in for fieldy in this video
Ray is a great drummer but David is the perfect drummer for Korn when it comes to composition. He just has that funk groove that goes so well with Fieldy’s percussive bass. They no longer have that magic in new albums since Ray joined
David all day everyday
david made korn style drumming. and after david korn need someone can drumming like david for more quality so they chosen ray and ray right now playing drum like david like korn want
Put Ray in Pearl Jam, and Silveria back in Korn and all will be right with the world.
we should not compare drumming from the 90s to the present years, one thing is for sure once it was played from the bottom of our heart, today we play for popularity
DAVID ALWAYS 👍
It's also a video for Fieldy vs Ryan Martinie
It all comes together and there is one of my favourite band EVER EXISTED ==))
So, to answer the question - respect to Ray, but David all day long! The musical style has changed after "Issues" anyway. It-s a pity, but we love corn, the NU METAL band, not Korn the alternative\industrial rock band.
Much love to all Korn members anyway and all Korn fans! It´s true love! (no homo=)
Ray always sounds more passionate to me, more soul.
Ray is by far the better drummer by a technical stand point but David tempo and hip hop vibe just gives him the nod for me as far as Korn music.
This comment section is one of the few bastions of sanity on the internet lol. Ray is just too clean and overplays a lot, both of which inhibit the primal groove that was a core piece of KoRn's sound with David.
No David=No Korn
TSOS and The Nothing are better than everything what KoRn did between 2000-2013 so... Yes, there is KoRn without David.
@@santiagobeneth8543 1st Korn album is their best everything after David is trash. I was a fan of Korn since day 1 korns music sucks now
@@ecgodsmack86 sure, SYOTOS and TALITM were two masterpieces.
Ray Luzier ! ❤❤🔥🔥
I like David's drumming better, Ray is great at the drums and is great but David has the groove. The way David drums I think sounds better and it makes the bands songs perfect.
David wins!!!....FLAWLESS VICTORY
@@misschicka2831 If you know YOU KNOW!!!🤘
both are good in terms of skills. but david definitely has a rockstar aura and ray looks like a postman.
Ray is the better drummer. But David has that groove that put nu metal in the map.
Btw, I love em both.
Wow! Well said
@@mod3rnwarrior34 agree... i grow up with the first 2 albums and now in my 40s ray make me back to enjoy korn again.- technical(nu)metal for old farts...sorry old fans xD
Ray by far.
Ray is an incredible drummer without doubt but David Silveria is to KoRn what Danny Carey is to TooL.. or what John Bonham is to Led Zeppelin..
The Ray vs David debate will always have the same answer: it's up to each person's taste. I prefer David, but preferring him doesn't mean I don't appreciate the beast Ray is.
Honestly, the only thing we can see in this video is how much Jonathan has improved over the years.
