  • New Braunfels Tube Chute or Walk Around It Guide on the Comal River. Tips on how to AVOID flipping over, or how you can walk around the Tube Chute if you don't want to go through the Tube Chute. River Safety Tips for small children and weak swimmers, should wear life jackets and walk around the Tube Chute and non-swimmers should stay off the river altogether. There is a very visible sign on the Comal River that tells you where to get out of the river if you want to walk around the Tube Chute. The sign reads CAUTION: TUBE CHUTE AHEAD, WEAK SWIMMERS EXIT NOW. There will be a set of stairs with a handrail where you can get out of the river. Be careful, the steps may be slippery from algae growth on the steps. You can reenter the river just below the Tube Chute to continue your float trip. How to get into your Tube, how to put on a Life Jacket for Kids and weak swimmers. Life Guards are on duty only some of the time at the New Braunfels Tube Chute property, but not always, while the rest of the Comal River has NO Life Guards. The Tube Chute is like a water slide with rushing water and whitewater rapids at the end of the Tube Chute. The whitewater rapids have a strong current and is the spot where you have the highest chance of flipping your Tube over or flipping out of your Tube. To increase your chances of NOT Flipping over, as soon as you enter the Tube Chute, get centered in your tube, hold on to the handles and sink your hind-end as low as possible into your Tube to prevent yourself from being "top-heavy" and flipping over. Once you have entered into the whitewater rapids, you may have to paddle to get out of the main current or Eddy. The rapids, strong currents, and Eddy at the end of the Tube Chute are why we suggest all Kids 8 years and younger and all weak swimmers wear a Lifejacket on the Comal River. As always, if you have any questions, you can call Texas Tubes at 830-626-9900. Thank you and have a great time on the river! Visit our Website at www.TexasTubes.com
    Additional Information: Texas Tubes is OPEN every day beginning with Spring Break, Memorial Day Weekend, 4th of July Weekend, and Labor Day Weekend through October. We rent the last tube at 5pm each day, so please arrive before 5pm to get on the river before the 5pm cut-off time. NewBraunfels is located right between Austin, Tx, and San Antonio, Tx in close proximity to Gruene, Tx, Canyon Lake, Tx, and San Marcos, Tx. I love the float but the chute is a literal death trap. I’ve almost drowned the last 2 times and will never attempt it again. The helpless feeling of seeing the surface and not being able to reach it is something I never want to experience again. I got worn out underwater and was eventually pushed away from the underwater whirlpool. I’ll happily take the exit.

    I hear the chute has a lot of hydraulics (water that sucks you down), don't hesitate to walk around it if you don't have a life preserver

      Thank God you’re okay! I have wondered if somehow the pressure has been turned up because I never had a problem in my youth - as an adult though either I’m a “weak swimmer” now or something has drastically changed in some way! I know the river is natural but the chute uses hydraulics.

    I went on this ride when I was eight years old (I'm 44 now). My mother quickly fell out of her tube and then grabbed onto mine for support and flipped me out of my tube. So I went through the rapids on my own. My mother was trying to hold me up to the surface so I could get air but she was getting sucked under too. Honestly, I thought I was going to drown and die. To this day it was one of the scariest experiences of my life.

      Chiefaj 47 - Activities on all bodies of water, whether it be rivers, lakes, swimming pools, the ocean, etc... always have both inherent and unknown risks and dangers. These include, but are not limited to, injury or loss of life. That said, the vast majority of people still safely enjoy water recreation every day already knowing the risks before entering the water. The primary reason for our video above is to inform, educate, and provide our customers with important safety information and options so they can choose what's best for them and their families. The following information is on our Website (www.TexasTubes.com), which we encourage everyone to visit and check out all the valuable information we provide so they can "know before they go"! Adults should stay close to their children at all times and children should be watched constantly for their safety. We also highly recommend that you always go tubing with 2 or more people to keep an eye on each other and act as a “buddy system” in case help is needed. Texas Tubes provides "Free Complimentary Life Jackets" for our customers upon request and Life jackets are recommended for all children ages 8 years and younger, as well as for all weak swimmers, inexperienced swimmers, non-swimmers, and anyone with physical limitations. Texas Tubes strongly recommends that all Non-swimmers and anyone who is afraid of the river should NOT go tubing or get in the river, you will be putting yourself in harm's way and you will not have any fun if you are stressed out and afraid of the river. There are NO LIFEGUARDS, enter the river at your own risk. Based on your comment, we recommend that you wear a life jacket and avoid the Tube Chute and walk around it, so you won't be stressed out on your float trip, thus allowing you to enjoy your float trip experience. Thanks for your comment and have a safe and wonderful day! Texas Tubes

    Those life guards won’t jump in anyway .. I almost drowned and the life guards did nothing I will never go down that shoot with that type incompetence. This place should not even allow people to go on the shoot since they technically are lying to the public trying to make you feel safe but having life guards like that. Terrible.

      Hey jackass. If you can't swim don't get in the water. You lived didn't you? Trust me - there are tons of life guards in that area. They all work at Schlitterbahn and they hang out in King Solomon Park.
      The Comal River is probably one of the safest waterways on the planet. In fact Schlitterbahn trains their life guard corps in the river.
      Locals sit at the base of the chute to rescue tourist beers. You'll be fine Nancy.

    • @hoganrichard9627
      @hoganrichard9627 3 года назад +2

      It diverts the water around a spillway. Because the water is forced through a narrow space it moves much faster and provides a thrilling ride. The scary part is when you exit the tube the water forms somewhat of a whirlpool so hang on tight to your tube. One time I flipped upside down and became separated from my tube. I'm a strong swimmer but it was still scary and exhausting. Good thing there's trained lifeguards on site. The lifevest is a good idea but you should have it on BEFORE going through the chute. Also, do this part of the river BEFORE you get too wasted on beer or whatever. You'll need your wits about you to stay safe. Have fun carefully.

      Marco, there are local swimmers who swim the Comal River every day year-round, (weather permitting), the water in the Comal River is 100% spring-fed and averages around an amazing 72 degrees year-round, so you being a monthly swimmer is no problem, come on out and enjoy the Comal River! • @dnique1542

    Does anybody know how deep this water is

    • @TexasTubes
      @TexasTubes  Год назад

      @dnique1542 - The Comal River has an uneven riverbed, so the depth varies a lot, there are spots where the river is 20 feet deep and as shallow as 6 or 7 inches (like at the 2nd Tube Chute)... so the depth is different at any given point. We recommend that all children, weak swimmers, and non-swimmers wear a Life Jacket at all times while on the river and we recommend that anyone who is afraid of being on the river, to NOT get on the river, as you will not have a good time if you are afraid the whole time. Texas Tubes has complimentary (free) Life Jackets for any customer that requests one, so be sure to ask a staff member for a Life Jacket if you need one! Thanks!

  • @PeteC75
    @PeteC75 Месяц назад

    Wouldn't a life jacket eliminate the safety concerns?

    • @TexasTubes
      @TexasTubes  Месяц назад

      Hi PeteC75, thank you for your inquiry... Wearing a life jacket does not guarantee that you become impervious to drowning, but it does improve your chances of surviving tremendously! While wearing a life jacket there is no guarantee that you’ll be floating in the proper orientation if you become unconscious. If you take a blow to the head (bumping heads with someone else or a hard surface) or pass out for some reason (medical or other), and you lose consciousness, you could float on the surface while facedown in the water. There is a better likelihood of you floating facedown naturally if you are unconscious since your head and limbs will drape forward. Wearing a life jacket does not help much if you fall face forward or you cannot keep your head above the water. These are rare examples, but not out of the realm of possibility. It's always best to go tubing with others (never by yourself), who are good swimmers to help keep a watchful eye on each other during your float trip, acting as a buddy system in case of an emergency. Texas Tubes recommends that "non-swimmers" NOT go tubing or get in the river period, and we also recommend that all weak swimmers, all children 8 years and younger, and anyone with physical limitations wear a life jacket! Life jackets are complimentary for all Texas Tubes' customers upon request! Thank you! Texas Tubes
