    Big tubes are often overlooked when fishing for bass anymore...they are awesome baits for both Largemouth and Smallies

    • @brnowak_fishing
      @brnowak_fishing  6 лет назад

      Yes! When you say Big Tubes are you talking 4.5 - 7" tubes or just a tube in general? My only issue with big tubes is that I have fish nip at the tube a lot which is my only struggle. For stroking a tube though, I have played with the 7" Ish tube a little bit

    You’re letting out some good knowledge in this one! I’m using a 7 1/2 foot spinning rod and it’s perfect for big water, definitely try it out if your rod company has that option.
    In Fisherman had an article about the ultimate smallmouth lure, and it was the grub. But I think a tube would give it a run for its money. I throw a tube 10x more than a grub. Tube on a biffle head might work too😉

    • @brnowak_fishing
      @brnowak_fishing  6 лет назад +1

      That 7.5 footer is probably so perfect! For that big water I think that's really the way to go (I may pick one up from a different company just because I think there are so many benefits to a longer spinning rod for this technique)
      I saw that same article - I thought, sure...maybe 15 years ago, but the tube is such a smallie staple! I really like to C-Rig a big Big Bite Craw Tube (has craw tentacles) - maybe I should try it on a swing head!

    • @brnowak_fishing
      @brnowak_fishing  6 лет назад

      Great great idea - because honestly, I've never really checked it underwater! I just know that it catches more fish - it could look the same, but maybe it's because it's softer and flows better or something I hadn't thought of! Cool idea

    It was awesome we practiced for 3 days and catching them wasn’t a problem but finding the 4 and 5 pounders was hard and the largemouth bite was good on a frog but all were twin 2 pounders...everybody caught fish so I would say they bite was great but I didn’t make no money 86th place...but caught a lot of fish and had a blast! I will be going back!

    Just started targeting smallmouth and I am really thankful for your videos. I’ve caught a couple so far and wow, what a fight! I bought some tubes a while ago but haven’t given them a lot of time in the water yet. Next time I hit a smallie lake I’ll be sure I have one tied on. I’d love to see a more in depth tube technique video, maybe with some underwater footage. Thumbs down for another great video! Thanks!!!

    So here is my take on tube colors. You are either imitating a craw or a baitfish. I’ve fished from Missouri to Minnesota and have found the color does not matter all that much as long as you are throwing a natural color. For craws green pumpkin and Shad smoke purple/pearl. If it’s a cloudy day or the water is stained I’ll toss a green pumpkin with some gold/copper flake. Solid video man!

    • @brnowak_fishing
      @brnowak_fishing  4 года назад +1

      Thanks so much. I agree with you for the most part - basically match color to the water clarity and type of forage. Pretty much my approach across all plastics is baitfish - smokes or green pumpkin base; craws - green pumpkin or Browns/oranges

    Sorry, one more question. What is it that you like about the Arc Invoker rod? It looks a lot like the Shimano Zodias at a very similar price point, so what is it about Arc that draws you to them over other rod options/choices?

    • @brnowak_fishing
      @brnowak_fishing  6 лет назад +2

      The blank has a little more backbone to it. I'm also fishing a Shimano Exage, but it's a softer rod down into the blank. I like to be able to stick those fish from a long way away and I don't really play the fish much, I like fishing a little heavier hook, get their head turned and moving to the boat which is why I like that stiffer rod

    • @nawinchester
      @nawinchester 6 лет назад

      I fish spinning gear exclusively, so I have a pretty diverse rod line up, ie Med Light XF action, Med XF & F action, Med Mod Fast Action, Med Heavy Fast Action and Med Heavy Moderate Fast action. I can fish all the baits I want and need to fish to have success on smallies and ocassional largemouth. I don't do much if any flipping, so I just haven't found a need for a bait casting set up. I know what you mean about backbone. I have a couple of really solid Med (St Croix Mojo) and Med Heavy (13 Fishing Envy Green) sticks that get that job done well. Thanks for the response.

    Hey Ben, thank you for the video. Couple of questions. Are there particular times of year or conditions that you will go to a tube versus other soft plastic baits, ie ned rig, wacky worm or a texas rig creature bait? Second question is when I tube fish, I seem to get hung up and snagged a ton, causing me to retie because I have snapped off the tube to get it free from bottom or the leader is frayed. Is this typical for this type of fishing or am I doing something wrong on my retrieve or they way I am fishing the tube? I hear so many people talk about how great a tube is for smallmouth, yet I can't tell you the last time I caught a smallie on a tube, so it must be me?? Thanks again for the video and look forward to your reply.

    • @brnowak_fishing
      @brnowak_fishing  6 лет назад +1

      A tube for me is a year round bait. I've found it works particularly well in high pressure situations (high sun, bluebird skies), when those fish are lethargic or pushed tight to the bottom. It works in the same areas as a ned rig and sometimes gets different bites than what a ned rig would get.
      The thing about a tube is that it really isn't weedless. If you're fishing it around heavy cover, you can texas rig it like you would a creature bait, but it's really a better open water style bait. Hopefully that will help a bit!

    • @nawinchester
      @nawinchester 6 лет назад

      That is how I fish it, just seems to pick up every piece of timber in the lake bottom. We have deep clear water lakes with rocky bottoms, smallmouth playgrounds, and I just can't seem to make tubes work for me. I know they work and I have seen enough videos from you to Zona, about how effective tubes are, but my tree strike ratio is much higher than my fish hook up ratio. :-) I will keep trying and seeing if I can figure something out to connect with fish versus timber. Thanks for the reply and the video.

    • @pattywatts4640
      @pattywatts4640 5 лет назад

      Nick Winchester when i texas rig my tubes i throw on a slider weight and don't think i've ever gotten snagged because thr slider weight punches it out from between the rocks

    • @nawinchester
      @nawinchester 5 лет назад

      @@pattywatts4640 since this post, I actually tried a new tube brand from Gitzit, which is a slender slightly smaller tube than traditional Strike King coffee tubes and other similar 3 and 1/2 in tubes, and for whatever reason I just started getting more fish contact than I had been in the previous 18 months. so I think my tube issue is solved because I'm actually catching fish with greater regularity using the Gitzit fat tubes and the Gitzit lead heads, which are radically different than most two heads on the market. They're almost pressed flat so they're tall and thin and the tubes fall within incredibly erratic dying Bait fish type of descent that apparently fish can't resist. So I'm definitely back using tubes to catch Smallmouth, but I do appreciate your feedback on Texas rigging tubes which is something I definitely have to try.

      @pattywatts4640 5 лет назад

    Any hints on how to get a heavy football jig inside a tube? I make a small pin prick in the head of the tube, to allow air to escape, and lube both the head of the jig, and the inside of the tube, and still end up destroying 50% or more of the tubes. Maybe I'm using the wrong brand tubes?

    • @brnowak_fishing
      @brnowak_fishing  5 лет назад

      The biggest tip I recommend is to start by rubbing the tube on the carpet or between your hands to help soften the plastic. Then slowly push the tube onto the head. I go really really slowly and just make sure to keep the tube from bunching up on the football head.
      I like the crunchers tubes or the strike
      King ones are nice too because they’re a little bigger body than most
