Thank you for all the time you take to help us become better anglers. I’m learning so much and enjoying teaching my sons. It is really making a difference.
Can’t tell you how helpful this video is. It can be overwhelming trying to plan a day of fishing and to have a good approach to tactics. Thanks for simplifying the process a bit!
Chatter bait slowroll on the bottom, good information, thx! The bite here in Colorado just stopped this summer. Evening is my favorite time to go. Giving the slow roll a shot this weekend
Gene, I have been watching your videos for some time, and I like your approach to fishing. This video was top notch and filled with good common sense information on how to fish a day in August. Do more of this stuff! Thanks!
Thank you brother. I appreciate your information! I've fished as a kid alot, but just threw on night crawlers or Chicken livers. I'm 40 and Just learning how to use different baits, it's discouraging and frustrating when I'm out in my kayak alone and not getting bites bcuz I don't know what bait to use. I just got a chatter bait, and was so happy to go try it, I didn't get one bite the whole 5 hours on my kayak. I need to learn more.
Thanks for the suggestions! Going to try these out this weekend. First year getting into bass fishing, and catch a lot of dinks but need to figure out where the big ones live!
Latly I’ve been getting bit on a power bait paddle tail swim bait and it’s whit funny I’ve never really used power bait but this swim bait is amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How do I add a skirt to a worm? What type of jig head? Etc... Will you make a video? It's hot as crap out here in August on the Tennessee River and I want to catch another bass. I've only caught 2 here this year and mostly everything I fish is full of grass. Great video btw. Full of information
Gene you were the reason I got into RUclips, love your content and if your ever in Tallahassee FL hit me up would love to show you around the ponds in my town
February here in the Southern Hemisphere. I find it hard this time of year for some reason. Thanks for the tips, going to try some and improve my late Summer game.
Awesome. This is exactly what I was looking for. Knew you had to have the info I just wasn’t finding it. Thanks for the link and the tutelage. You are the man!
Man thankyou gene your tip videos are so detailed every other tip video I’ve watched didn’t make sense to me but you make it so simple thankyou God bless!!!!
I like the look of that 13 Fishing Joy Stick! Definitely going to pick up some of those. I feel like they'd be equally good for power fishing quickly to cover water or slowing down in a more finesse situation.
Picked up an Omen Black 7'3" mh extra fast action for plastics and jigs- or about anything I want to snap through the grass- very impressed so far. If it were a little shorter I'd make a frog rod out of it- that extra fast tip is perfect for walking a frog. But- fishing out of my kayak a 7'3" is just too long for froggin. But it snaps jigs through the grass perfectly- I mean spot on perfect. First pop will get it out of the grass and the second clears the bait- and if they hit it on the fall it's plenty sensitive enough to feel it. You feel their mouth shutting on your line- just a little "thump" - time to set the hook. You do have to remember it's a extra fast rod though- when you hit one you can't try to play them- you gotta bo 'em up and just grind 'em in- never stop reeling. It will unload on you "extra fast"- just like it's labeled. The cork is beautiful to- higher grade than what's on my more expensive powell rods. Not that it makes that much difference but- it's pretty. I like shiny things- like all knuckle heads- most just won't admit it. I've got an Origin LTE I'm gonna put on it- 8:1- for light pitching and/or punching and snapping stuff through vegetation. Thanks for turning me on to 13 Fishing Gene- they're really starting to come into their own I think. I saw Gerald swindle using this setup for snatching jigs through grass- one reason i grabbed it. When I saw it I realized I didn't really have a rod that would do that efficiently.
I’m picking up my first decent bait casting outfit in a few hours and getting line put on at the shop! Can’t wait to take it out and land a few on it for the first time! (I’ve used baitcaster before but very cheap ones / old ones where the tension knobs are shot lol)
I have caught some big bass on Jigs. However I have lost a ton of jigs getting hung up on rocks, wood etc. Are swim jigs meant to be retrieved so they don't touch bottom?
I'm fishing super clear man made lakes in bella vista ar and have been struggling. Throwing fluke jr. Silver ice, ned rigs creature and trick worms, Texas rig creature, craws, worms and finesse worms, also slow rolling cranks. Temp 77⁰ in the morning 105⁰ by noon 20mph wind with med chop
Its 11 now ill be fishing by 12 and my first is a swimjig then a texas rig for sure. I had a giant bent my booyah swim jig out the otherday and i had it on a medium heavy 7'3" lews
Mr.gene thank you so much for your videos. I stop finishing around 30 yours ago an now you have gotten me to want to get back at it.to start fishing again. I would like to see a video of how to set your drag on a bait caster for different baits.im wanting to switch but I am tried of the back latching.lol.thanks again be safe.good luck
Mr. Flukemaster Would it be possible to request a video on Tidal River Bass Fishing and tactics? Oh by the way love your content ever find your self up in Virginia give me a Hollar and maybe you can show me some tidal tactics as the Potomac regularly kicks my butt.
I know very little about tidal fishing but I plan on having a guest join my for a Friday Night Live very soon how is a master at it. He's been guiding on tidal waters for a very long time.
If you could get the time consider coming to tenn, and fish a day or two with me on WATTS BARR LAKE. Really would enjoy you coming up and fishing a while with me
Great video Gene. Your content is always on point from my experience. And I always learn something new. Just learned you’re a Vet. Me too. Thanks for your service! 👊🏼🎣😎
Have you tried steel bullet weights? They seem like a pretty good option for someone who is ballin' on a budget, who wants the better reaction of tungsten and the price point of lead.
I'm not much of a freshwater fisher, but I like watching your videos. Learning a lot about bass fishing that's for sure. BTW very nice clock you have there.
Awesome video today.. Very informative tips in a short period of time.. I am always having good luck fishing a couple hours before dark.. Like you... The Texas rig is my go to most of the time... Got to get out of that habit..A little... The Frye Guy
I've been watching your videos and I follow what you do but I've lived in Rome GA for 6 years and I can't catch nothing and my son loves fishing but if we don't catch something im afraid he will give up on it I don't know if I just fishing the wrong spots or if the fish gods hate me what am I doing wrong
Amen brother... we always put too much emphasis on what lure to throw and not enough on finding the fish- which is the hardest part imo. Once I find them I can usually get them to bite multiple presentations- but finding not just a fish but an active fish without electronics or a boat to cover water- not easy. Best advice I can give you- find a spillway you can fish. 1. The water is much cooler because it's generally coming off the bottom of the lake. 2. It's full of oxygen because it's a stiff current that's hitting rocks and everything else- which puts tons of O2 in the water. and 3. They're generally pretty small and you can figure out specific spots that almost always hold an active fish who's waiting to ambush something. Not only that but- they tend to hold some monster bass- I just hooked into a 8-9 pounder few days ago at the one I fish- lost her at the bank. It broke my heart but, now I know she's there- I'm not stopping until I get her in.
Could you give an apparel/accessory breakdown, for hot weather? What you would recommend or what works for you, to wear to stay cool, but protected when on the water? Shirt and shorts/pants materials, long sleeve vs short sleeve, pros/cons of buffs, hat types (ball cap, boonie, flap cap)? Could even extend to bank fisherman for protection from briars, snakes, thorn bushes that seem abundant in hot weather along water edges (thinking chaps, guards, boots vs sneakers vs water shoes).
Awesome thanks would love to see you do a night fishing video on summer and/or early fall you have already help my game so much this summer!!! Went Saturday and landed 9 plus a big bluegill on a sq bill went Sunday and got 12 with my nephew who landed 8 and now he's HOOKED
So I've been fishing magnum worms the last couple weeks. I'm in central Florida, it's hot as all get out. I've been creeping them along the bottom to no avail. But when I switch it up to a decent constant reel speed(5.7) and tug tug it every couple seconds, I get bit, and I'm catching bass. Fishing turkey lake in Florida. Why are they responding to a faster presentation?
I have become a huge fan of 13 baits I havnt tried the cranks yet I'm not much for a crankbait guy but the 2 stand outs are the dual pitch and is it the navigator or something like that it looks just like the dual pitch but it's a little smaller
Great video. Thanks. How come no one mentions (not just you) my favorite top water lure, the Arbogast Jitterbug? I caught smallmouth on a Jitterbug last week. Do you ever use one? Or is that just too "yesterday"? This is not a criticism. You list some very good top water lures. I'm just curious.
I liked the outline of the video. Tons more info. And I like that it's not a top 5. You bet I'm using that jig and that frog I built up mad confidence this year. 😈
Love that he mentioned the Chopo there. That's what I have, but I always hear about the whopper plopper. I identify with that as well, though I've spent a ton on fishing lately and still am hardly catching anything lately.
During the week Irish the pond(s) at the shop I work at. Both are less than an acre, one is about 5-6ft at its deepest, the other maybe about 2-3ft. However, I've never had a topwater bite since I started fishing there, and in the month of July, I've been SMASHING em on either a chatterbait, or a junebug plastic worm. Over the past 2 weeks, the bite has almost disappeared..what would you suggest?
In the upper corner there is a little circle the leads to links on how to fish each of these baits. I go over the individual line and all the other details in those videos.
When fishing texas rig in grass, how thick grass are you talking about? Does it work in an area chocked with grass? If it does, what in grass are you flipping to? Holes? Grass edge where the bottom drops off? Or just randomly flipping? Thanks in advance.
I'm gonna keep throwing a crankbait on a falling tide. I tied one on the other day and caught 20+ fish by myself in about 3 hours. They completely shut down about an hour before dark though, which was strange because the tide was still falling.
Sounds like the sun or wind may have changed- sometimes that is all it takes to shut a crankbait bite down. That or- maybe you just ran through the willing participants in that school- all that was left was the few that were just too smart, too lazy, or too full already- it's possible, especially if you caught that many. Congrats man, sounds like a helluva good time.
@@stoneysdead689 Yea it was a blast. I tried swapping up lures when the bite shut down but they wouldn't hit anything else, i've seen the fish here do that a lot right before dark.
Best breakdown of August fishing ever!!!! I like how you broke it down by the time of day
Glad you liked it!
Thank you for your service Gene! You have given me a love for fishing again, i can’t thank you enough. My wife on the other hand….lol
What time exactly during the late day transition do they stop biting? I think I noticed this where I live. Seems to happen between 12am and 11:59pm.
Lmao
Hey...me too!
At least you get a minute, they only bite for me on full moons

Ready to try this out this weekend, these videos have been an amazing find for me.
Thank you for mentioning the choppo. One of my favorite top water baits
As a beginner, this is the greatest video on RUclips lol.
Gene, I have been watching your videos for some time, and I like your approach to fishing. This video was top notch and filled with good common sense information on how to fish a day in August. Do more of this stuff! Thanks!
I appreciate that Robert. Thanks for watching
I bet the combo of being cheap + all the sponsors you've built up over the years of hard and honest work is a fun time
Finally!! A video that explains exactly what I need to hear! Thank you for breaking it down and easy to understand!🔥
Appreciate this video, I’ll try a few of those up here in Syracuse, NY💪🏾
Your positivity and enthusiasm is awesome. Happy fishing!

I hate the chatterbait but apparently it works for some . Rubber worms work best for me always period .
Gene you are one of my first youtube resources. Always enjoy and learn new things. Thanks so much.
Very good presentation can not wait to try. Your plan thankyou
Thanks for the suggestions! Going to try these out this weekend. First year getting into bass fishing, and catch a lot of dinks but need to figure out where the big ones live!

The tungsten deal is the fact that the weight comes in a smaller pkg. (more efficient) can’t say for sure that it does anything enticing for the fish.
Thankyou gene this was very helpful I don’t like August either I was wanting to go home the other day I was so hot but I did catch a nice bass

Awesome video, very informative. I was just wondering what line you would use on each of those lures and baits?
I use braid for frogs and top water and flouro for almost everything else. I do use mono for plugs when I'm walking them.
