    AWESOME Video on how to find them buddy! It's funny that you used Burt Lake as one of your Google Earth spots because I'm using the info from this video to help me when I go out there in a couple weeks. 👍
    I completely agree on your bait selection as well. You had me laughing out loud when you hooked your shorts with the jerkbait and mumbled motherf***er 😂
    I'm going to go ahead and disagree with you on one thing though... length of line between your plastic and your dropshot weight. I would NEVER go that short on the length, especially fishing seated from a kayak. You have to remember the angle of your line in the water. If you have only 8 inches of line from the bait to the weight, that bait is basically dragging on the bottom of the lake (unless that's what you want, I don't). I put a minimum of 18" between the weight and my plastic so that it's hopefully suspended 6" to 12" in the water column.
    I will definitely be looking for the flats when I hit Burt. Thanks, Man! QUESTION: What's the shallowest flat you'd hit this time of year, and the deepest flat?

      Thanks for watching buddy! So I have dropped the rig off the side of the kayak to see how it works both dragging it from a low rod angle as well as popping it with the rod tip straight up. What I found was 8”-10” was perfect otherwise the bait would be too high in the column. I’m trying to keep it as close to the bottom as possible without it being on the bottom. I tried longer leads but it runs too high especially in water less than 10’. I rarely fish water deeper than 10’ this time of year on inland lakes for smallmouth. Again they will move deeper but when they’re feeding they’re up shallower on the flat and feeding there. Some of the fish I caught lately were in 5FOW also.

    How do you avoid catching a million rock bass when smallmouth fishing? When I went to Crystal lake and Higgins lake all I could catch was rock bass.

    Good job on this how to vid man. Enjoyed it. No smallies down here but how you had different rods set up make sense for any species. Gotta be ready to change it up. That paddle tail is my fav for creeks here in Fla for Redfish.

    Great tips Lucas! I know you’re big on jerk baits. I know jerk baits are great in the spring. Do you fish them in the summer? I can’t see why you couldn’t. To me, they almost seem like a finesse bait the way they just float in the middle of the water column. Your thoughts? Great video buddy. 🙌

    • @TheOutdoorConquest
      @TheOutdoorConquest  2 года назад +1

      Thanks for watching Joe! I honestly always use a jerk bait. It’s not just a cold water bait but it definitely catches MORE fish in the Spring of the year for me.

    • @TheOutdoorConquest
      @TheOutdoorConquest  2 года назад +1

      Also they’re great in shallow water. Rather than floating in the column they are digging into the bottom and floating up. Also crank baits are great for getting that presentation also.

    Excellent advice on how to break down those bodies of water BEFORE heading out. You don’t need expensive electronics to get a base of operations, great job on showing how it’s done!👏

      Thanks Joe!! Honestly I’ve been getting it done lately with Google earth and a smart phone. Well at least finding the fishing grounds that way and then throwing the arsenal at them to see what sticks em. Thanks for taking the time to watch buddy!

  • @DpuckFishingandOutdoors

    I really wish I could fish for smallies more than I can. The tip on carving out smaller lakes from the big lake is a great one for dissecting larger bodies of water.

    • @TheOutdoorConquest
      @TheOutdoorConquest  2 года назад

      Thanks for watching buddy! That’s the first thing I’ll do is eliminate 75% of the lake and focus on the flats. If the smallies reside in that lake you WILL find them on one of them or multiple spots.

    Tried plastic frogs with the large curved back hooks. When I get a hit I wait for seconds then try to set hook. Can't hook fish with these frogs. Any ideas folks

  • @Gstar5150
    @Gstar5150 Год назад +2

    The reason your missing hooksets is because your using a circle hook, they aren't really meant for fishing plastics since their not designed for hooksets, you have to reel into them on a circle I learned that Catfishing.

    Lol, instructions not clear. what is a flat, and how do I find it?

    • @TheOutdoorConquest
      @TheOutdoorConquest  5 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks for watching. A flat is exactly that. A large flat area of the lake. It can be 20ft deep or 5ft deep. An area where the fish can actively target food in small wolf packs.
