How I search for Deep Smallmouth Bass

- In this video I break down ways to help find smallmouth bass if you are fishing over vast areas of deep water. Catching smallmouth bass is easy it is finding them that makes this a challenge at times. More than likely if I find them I can catch them. So you really just need to pull out a map and start doing some homework ahead of time. Highlight areas that look good (fishy) Steep breaks, humps, points, flats near deep water, etc. Once you find these areas it is a matter of driving around and idling tell you locate them on your electronics.

Who is SmallmouthCrush?
Travis Manson was born and raised in Wisconsin. He started fishing from the bank at a young age and spent most of his childhood with a rod in his hand. Travis is primarily a self-taught angler that is always learning and experiencing this amazing sport of fishing. He started out fishing for walleyes and fishing in local walleye tournaments, but then in his mid 20's, he caught the BASS BUG and has been hooked every since. He competed at the highest level in bass fishing on the Bassmaster Elite Series for a number of years. He is a full time fishing guide offering trips on the Chesapeake Bay for largemouth bass(year round) and trophy smallmouth bass guided trips in Upstate New York on Lake Ontario and the St Lawrence River. His RUclips Channel is named after his passion for the smallmouth bass and will be used as a platform for "how-to" videos, on the water instruction, crazy on and off the water topics and vlogs on the day in the life of a fishing addict! Hope you enjoy! Хобби

Great content Crush! Like the way you explained the livescope deal.
awesome job showing what to look for on depth finders i would like see more in future
I love this video! Thank you Travis! I am now motivated for Lake Mead. Going to try these tips and try to finish well in the US Open! I’ll keep you posted. Checked out the bait. I’ll try some 👍🏻🎣🏆
Great vid! Great explaining the sonars also.
So helpful! 1 year into using my first fish finder (garmin echomap) with my kayak and didn't really know to how to use it efficiently. I don't have a live scope but this was really helpful
Thanks Travis! Really enjoyed this video. Very encouraging and educating. Those electronics can be frustrating for me.
Best info yet , thanks .
Good vid.
Thanks!!
I have two hummins. The garmin is wow!
Travis... Great Video.. Id love to see some more vids like this... on Live Scope and Side Imaging and how to tell what is a fish and what isnt.

Sandusky Bay is an awesome spot to go fishing and to watch trains at too! One of the most scenic places in the US. Have a good night!
great video could you do video on settings for setting up a unit for begginners have echo map plus 93sv fishing upper bay aea
Good work broham
Crazy I was just on this boat last weekend. Fishing with the guy you sold it to. I was actually watching your video when I got picked up going to the potomac. And he said "this is his old boat"
Another good video. You should have called I may have been up for another trip. After all it was my birthday. The new toys are on the way!!
Reppin the Harbor I see. That’s some great home territory if you get on em
Hey whats ups. Great videos. Do you use the livescope while idleing?
Great video. Which Garmin model do you use? I was going to upgrade to Bird G4N but after watching this might go with Garmin for mapping and 2d (I've never seen a fish on my Bird's 2d)
To summarize, you’ll find structure without bass, but never bass without structure. Good tip on dead sticking’ your drop shot. 😊😊😊😊
Drop shot and ned rig for smallies are the goat
Heavy tube cough cough lol
I like how you showed how you search and things you are looking for. Then you started fishing. I wish you would have showed what you found that made you stop and start to fish.
Appreciate the tips. What body of water is this on?
Hey Travis do you have any problems with interference between units or transducers when mixing units on your boat? Thanks bud take care and stay safe.
Hey Travis do you use the Quick Draw in the Garmin mapping
How are you get the forward and down are you running two separate transducers? If so can you show how they are mounted?
I think looking at those front graphs would make my eyes go crazy
Travis what length and action rod do you recommend for tubes
“When they’re biting, it’s hard to leave them.” That’s True!
I also never realize how much better it is on Garmin 2D. Great content you put out Travis!
Color 16 for sonar on humminbird is juice try it sometime...
Is your console bird using a shoot thru ducer in your bilge? Could the fiberglass “resistance” be the difference between the bird sonar signal and the garmin signal?
Does reeling against the drag like that create a lot of line twist? how are you not getting line twist? You are using mono right? Hmm.. informative video. Thanks.
Henderson bay boat ramp, launched there today...
What settings are you running on the livescope?
Ok I have a question. Does this work on a shallow (3 to 6 ft) river???? That has 10 to 15kcfs?
Was it a 7 or what!!! Great video!
close
"slightly bigger"? I wish I caught fish that big
Great video, though. That was fun to watch. I would like to fish with you. Just sit back and let the video monitor guide you
Timely video. This will be how I'm fishing this weekend. Deep water drop shotting. What other finesse technics will you fish for deep water smallies.??
Great video! However, I own both humminbird and Garmin and I do a lot of deeper graphing (My Garmin addition is recent so not lots of experience yet)... but I don’t know that you are really giving the humminbird 2d a fair shot based off your settings (it appeared you had the birds 2d in just high chirp frequency). If that’s the case you should try putting the humminbird 2d sonar to medium/high chirp sonar frequency and not just high Chirp and then compare to the Garmin. Also prob turn your surface clutter on or up. I might be wrong but I don’t think that bird is getting a fair comparison...
Was going to say the same thing. The bird 2D is on the high frequency setting here. Also, the cone is more narrow with a high frequency beam which is why the school of perch is less impressive on the bird. The high frequency beam is more useful for high speed scanning. I can mark fish up on plane easily with mine.
With your setup and how deep the water is that you are scanning, you might benefit from using contour mode on the birds side imaging.
Derrick House especially if he has the DI and Sonar already showing what’s in the water column....
@@danholland4815 That's right! Contour mode on Humminbird is a forgotten/not talked about feature, but when used properly it can be very helpful.
thanks for the tricks. Are you drifting or you stay anchor? On the St-Lawrence they is so much current is hard to stay anchor, the bait is moving to much, so to have the bait no to move I have to put a heavy weight 1/2 oz to 3/4. what are you using for weight setup
He's spot locked there with the force
Spot lock is a game changer. I fish the Lawrence as well.
You could definitely change some setting on the humminbird 2d to get a much better picture.
Franco Di Corpo yes need to turn up the sensitivity until you have some surface clutter. Once you get that then you will mark the fish
@@johncoopes1056 oh I know. I was telling him.
Yeah it looked like he was using high chirp setting on the bird 2d but in my experience the medium/high chirp sonar on the humminbird shows so much more than just the high frequency. I don’t think it was a fair comparison
@@FishcastAngling I agree 100%
I do not get near that much clutter on my striker 4/ice transducer shooting directly through my aluminum floor.... Only time I see that is when my buddy puts his helix 7 ducer beam right into mine...
👋👍👍👍👍
What lake is this?
Travis are they Waterland shades you have on
No I misjudged. Had me excited. Just over 6
Yes I’ve been messing with those sunglasses for a bit. I’m impressed so far
can i fish with you?
What size Spirit Shad??
Who makes the spirit shad? Thanks
Instead of idling around all day....read Buck Perry's Spoonplugging book and you won't have to!
Do you always fish with your drag that loose?
Yes but I will admit it was a tad bit loose but not by much
Did it weigh 7?
Well???? Was it a 7? Looked 5'ish on camera.
how big was that fish u never did say
Not 7…that’s for sure!
Broham don't show these guys all this, let em figure it out themselves. Lol cats out of the bag now. Does epic Eric know of this?
7?!
Why medium-light? Those aren’t small fish. They seem to not be bait shy.
I feel I get a better hook up with a ML in deep water
You got a lot interference going on there on all sonars .
Expecailly? Especially is the word. Sorry.
