Please, please, please keep the "comfort shoe" videos going through the different seasons! I didn't fully comprehend why my feet were so "picky" since I entered my 50's. Now I get it! Greatly appreciate this video!!!
Melinda Leiva 😂 Love the reference! My feet are picky too so I’ve mostly cleared out all my lovely shoes and boots but I love the flat versions available these days. I don’t yet require actual comfort shoes so there’s that...
I just commented this in the main thread, but perhaps you'll find a shoe store with a CPed to help with your picky needs like what Schuler Shoes offers! -------- Comfort shoes mean different things to different people based on their foot problem. www.schulershoes.com/foot-health/foot-issues/ And while we all would like to wear the best-looking shoe for our outfit, some of us actually need support to keep our ankles from turning in because we have flat or pronating feet. Could you review shoes from Schuler Shoes site for helping us with foundational feet issues? www.schulershoes.com/women-s.html I love that they also make available to customers meeting with one of their CPeds for a FREE foot evaluation! (I personally should only buy shoes after they've evaluated my feet cuz I've invested in several expensive shoes that may not be what's best for me. My long-time go to that I'd get compliments on was the Think brand Mizzy Face sandal. www.schulershoes.com/womens-mizzi-face-by-think-womensmizzifacethink.html (They felt SO good and helped to properly align me. But after buying them at the end of summer once & wearing them during the winter inside my house because they felt so good, I learned they made an expensive slipper. I'd worn-out the sole and discovered new Think soles from a cobbler are costly. )
I wear a lot of booties in the winter. Blondos are super comfortable and water resistent. Hunter boots are great on messy days, but be sure to pay attention to the calf circumference. If you have wide calves, get the short boots or the styles with wider calves.
I really learn from this type of video! One thing that would help me avoid Frumptown is if you point out the detailed specific reasons why a particular shoe is ruining the outfit. I can definitely see the improvement with the “good” shoes, but I don’t always understand beforehand why the “bad” shoes are bad. Xoxo
Can you explain what it is about the frumpy sandals that makes them so and point out the differences in your alternatives? I can see your choices look better, but I want to know why so I can apply these rules going forward.
This was my exact thought! Please help us understand why the "frumpy" shoes are considered frumpy. I see that in your posing in the frumpy you are standing awkwardly and look blah, but in the non-frumpy shoes you are bouncy and moving around and posing attractively. Would be helpful if you just stood flat front for both frumpy and non-frumpy and for you to explain why one is frumpy and the other is not. Rant over. Lol ;) Love and appreciate your suggestions and helpful insights always!
In the first example, I felt that the lighter-toned straps that criss-crossed over the top of the foot elongated the leg. However, in example #2 her "after" sandals were more like the #1 "before" sandals, lol.
Well, I’m not Erin, but I think I can help. Those eyesore shoes age anyone. Why? Because I remember them since 70’s when I was a kid! For decades they are the same, just waiting for the next generation ... Trash them, please!
We are so under served and disrespected. Why aren't these companies making nice shoes for over 40 women? I get so angry, I am still beautiful, sexy and relevant. As all of you are too. Thanks Erin. GF I adore you💚
I think that 'we' are a dwindling market for most companies even though we (were) the largest group f consumers for many years. Times change even if we remain th4 same and corporations want new and bigger...which seems to match the lastest generation. Sad but true I have found, but buck up, there are a number of designers that still do notice and care for our neds. Try Michael Kors 9on sale), Isaac Mizrahi and even COLE HAAN for what you may be looking for.
I wear a D width or WW. It is so frustrating to shop for shoes. I have skipped buying a cute outfit when I didn’t think I’d find shoes to wear with it.
Yes, hello! There is a fortune to be made if someone has the $$ to start a company. Women over 40 want (most of us, anyway) to look stylish AND not accentuate our tummies, upper arms, and to have shoes that look stylish and are comfy. Why is this so difficult? The "fashion industry" needs to get with it. Also, more elder women have money to spend than 20-somethings, as a group.
Vionic makes very comfortable sandals. Not sure they'll make the cut but I've had foot surgery and love them. Also bought a pair of Clark's this summer.
Love vionic!! The aetrex gladiator from about 3 years ago was great; the offerings this summer are meh, imo. Wish they would bring back the older gladiator.
Vionics are great! I am 30 but I have plantar fasciitis and high arches. I've been wearing Orthaheel/Vionic almost exclusively since I was 19. It's nice to have something that doesn't look like grandpa shoes. Plus, since the only non-orthotic heels I've ever worn were for one day only (my wedding), I've never had to deal with bunion issues.
Loved but need more explanation about what specifically it is that makes the frumpy shoes frumpy. Is it the ankle strap? (I get the Mary Janes concept.) Thanks! Love (and need) your advice ❤️
I do think it’s sometimes a fine line between an okay shoe and one that really elevates an outfit. Some of the tricks I default to when I’m wondering if a shoe falls into one category or another are: 1) a bit of a heel is always a good idea (Eileen Fisher & Vionic make great comfort heels), 2) a flesh toned shoe is generally going to be more versatile and create a nice silhouette, and 3) steer clear of ankle straps if you have thick ankles. 😊 Great video!
I have found sandals, shoes and boots from the company Born to be really flattering and comfortable. Not described as comfort shoes but this company knows feet. They use quality materials. I have bunions and am in my 70’s. Still love the Borns I have purchased. They look and feel ageless.
I have about 8 pairs of Born shoes. They are so comfortable and well made. They still use the Opanka method for constructing their shoes. They last a very long time.
@@loreforone924 I'm 53 and not frumpy at all..but Born has really upped their game. I have about 3 or 4 pairs of the brand. One is a bootie that I get crazy compliments about how sexy they look with skinny jeans. I have another full boot and 2 pairs of flats, I always get compliments and my feet are so thankful! Naturalizer also has sone great styles. I have 2 leather FitFlop things that I adore as well. I do hope the "comfort shoes" become more stylish for those of us who can no longer wear what we used to. I work in a nursing home and many residents wish they hadn't tortured their feet for the love of fashion for they have many foot ailments and are either in wheelchairs or orthotics now.😒Take care of your feet👣💞😉
I started seeing a foot doctor for pain from running years ago and he blamed part of the loss of the fat pad on the bottom of out feet on our shoe choices. We should be wearing our squishy supportive shoes while we exercise and no other time. Putting what he calls casts on our feet all the time makes our feet muscles ligaments and tendons weak (ever see anybody right after getting a cast removed?), and requiring our back, knees, hips to take over what our feet should be doing. The rest of the time we should ideally wear flat, low thickness, zero drop, low padding, low arch support, etc other times (okay I don't always do this but I do walk my dogs miles/day in flat sneakers a lot like Erin's vans or flip flops and stopped hiking in my trail runners). At home we should be barefoot or in socks all the time (always do this). Changed my life. Hope passing it on helps someone else.
I'm in the same boat as you as a runner with loss of fat pads in the metatarsal area. Also as we age the transverse arch collapses which is double trouble. I've tried many things: running on softer surfaces, different shoes, inserting met pads. I haven't had a lot of success. Maybe fillers in the balls of our feet is the answer!?
I have plantar fasciitis and had the surgery on my left foot, back in 2007. My doctor told me to wear comfort shoes and for tennis shoes wear Nike and New Balance. I went to a different doctor in 2019 and he recommended asics tennis shoes as well as comfort shoes. Back in 2007 I sold all my shoes and what didn't sell I donated.(i kept my Nike tennis shoes)
I've found a few contradicting pieces of advice out there: 1. Go barefoot most of the time or very little padding in shoes 2. Wear stiff soled, "supportive" shoes ALL the time, including supportive slippers indoors. LOL I just have to laugh. I can find advice and experts online and in my real life - to back up *either* viewpoint. My podiatrist says wear comfort shoes all the time, stiff soles, etc. I have lost nearly all cartilage in one of my foot ball joints. And I have plantar fascitis sometimes. I'm over 50. I don't believe foot issues are usually from running -- I believe if at all, they are due simply to aging and the natural loss of collagen, etc. and for women, from wearing high heels in their 20s and 30s too often and for too long a time per wear.
@@i.e.presents638 It's the height difference between the heel and toe, but where high heels are described by height (3" heel), running and athletic shoes use the term "drop". So traditional running shoes with a thicker heel will have an "X millimeter drop" down to the rest of the shoe, a "zero drop" shoe will be flat with the heel and toe level, and a "negative drop" will have the heel lower than the rest of the shoe so that it provides lots of stretch to the achille's heel and back of the leg. Pros and cons for all of these, especially depending on what you're doing and the state of your feet, and usually you make the switch from one type to another gradually to prevent pain. (ask me how I know...)
Hi Erin. Love your site and great video. I live in VT where even 20 year olds wear tons of ugly comfort shoes! I’m 62 and hyper mobile, so comfort shoes are a must, but only if they aren’t frumpy. One solution I can suggest for those who really have to have the arch support, like me, is to buy insoles with strong arch support and heal cups. Many cute sneakers that are not comfort shoes can be quickly turned into supportive comfort shoes with insoles inserted. There are loads of different brands.
You need to follow CB Styled on Instagram, she's in Canada and does an extensive review of winter boots. I had NO idea that boots were made for snow & ice and could be so stylish. Good luck!
I’m 65 and have had feet issues in the past but I love shoes, so I look for cute shoes that I can actually walk in. I have lots of really great shoes, booties, boots from Naturalizer and find they are generally good quality and kind to my feet. And Taos makes super cute very comfy sandals that I love wearing. No reason to sacrifice style for comfort! Great video Erin, thanks!
I’m a teacher and generally (before covid) am on my feet all day. I’ve bought comfort shoes to feel comfortable but there’s nothing worse than students telling me I’m wearing grandma shoes 😂
Merrill, a shoe company known for their hiking boots, makes insanely comfy sandals. Not all of them are cute but they have a good selection of models of slip ons/flip flops that are cute and comfy.
I'm becoming an addict to this channel. So glad I found it. Such a positive vibe and good ideas. I'm a new subscriber, but I've been watching these videos almost non stop since I'm almost turning 48 so this is right up my alley. I am from Portugal so sometimes I have to adjust, but I can always find something useful every time I watch a video. Love your style.
Oh also, Birkenstock makes some more stylish sandals that are cute and super great for your feet if you are planning on doing a lot of walking. Check out their Mayari, Yao, Gizeh and Yaro styles! I love wearing them! And they look good!
I fixed my feet with yoga. Years ago I could wear nothing but flats... now I can wear anything! It’s a very slow process, but a regular practice strengthens the feet and hands tremendously.
That's awesome! Consistency is key, but is also the most difficult part of making any kind of change. Congratulations for sticking with it long enough to see and sustain a change!
Oh, no!! I have a pair of the NO sandals!!! However, I have many of the GOOD ones!!! Guess what I'm getting rid of today!! Lol. Thank you for your guidance. Love your channel!
Tammy Roach I dunno, the first ones were BAD, and thr criss cross straps were far more appealing, agreed...but the black “BAD” ones were so much more intersting than the “Good” options...kind of shocked. I see nothing flattering or stylish about wide straps cutting off the line of the leg that high up. I think the Picolino’s (with the color of the pant prominently utilized) continue the line far better than the stumpy white sneakers that cut off the line. I adore Erin and see her point but, as she said at the end, this is subjective. I have more of a European mindset so maybe that plays into it. Do I think T straps or fisherman sandals are, generally speaking, on the frumpy side? Yes. Do I think these ones were frumpy compared to the options suggested? Nope, not even close. So, call me frumpy, I guess. I am a shoe lover from way back, sold shoes at high end stores for years. As an overweight gal shoes are my best chance to be up to date and I own a TON of shoes, get more compliments on my shoes than anything else...I stand by my choices. I would chalk this up to personal taste and just encourage you, as Erin always does, to just try on a lot of shoes, look at a lot of options, wear outfits you need shoes FOR when you shop, take pics, bring a chic friend along, and decide what best fits your life and aesthetic. Just went through the links and I have not changed my mind after seeing pics up close. One thing...there is no link for the “frumpy”. shoes in the second, black, outfit. I really want to see those up close!
I need help too. I have one of the frumpy sandals, I bought them this year and I wear them everyday, even though I bought them to travel. They are so comfortable. It is really hard to find comfortable and looking modern at the same time. Also they do sell the frumpy everywhere, so you really eventually get lost and confused what looks good and what does not.
Confidence is a primary component of style. Please be secure enough to wear what you like. I agree with Erin’s upgrades for the most part, but “dad sandals” are also super trendy but ugly as all get out imo. It’s all subjective.
It’s sooooo helpful to see the good & bad side by side. It will probably sound silly but at 53 I’m finding my style, not only dressing an over 50 body but also a new body to me after losing 100lb, so I’m finding these videos eye opening. Thanks Jen Lefforge for sharing this RUclips channel in your menopause video.
I thought for sure that you’d mention the “Ecco soft 7” shoe as a comfort shoe. Not only are they super cute but, they come in several colours! I wear a size 1O (nothing cute about that) and they make my foot look like my feet are a size 8. They are a little pricy but worth every penny for the comfort! I wear them when I’m travelling around in Europe! You can buy them on sale and they never go out of style. It’s one of their only sneakers that they have carried for a long time!
Ecco knows how to angle in attractively without squeezing your toes. Just because we want a roomy toe box doesn't mean we want bulbous tips like Minnie Mouse shoes. Shoemakers! Hire Women!
I have been in comfort shoes for the past 20 years. I worked in Mephistos (the ugly ones) and now I buy one pair every year of something that is stylish. (The Helen sandal is a better alternative to Birks). I also splurged on a pair of Paul Green white sneakers which I picked over five other kinds. I ordered the Paul Green loafers on the NSale but they haven't come in yet. The Uggs slides that you show are very good also. I have two pair. Another is Kork Ease for style and comfort. I have explored Pedro Garcia, but would have to catch those on steep sale. My run to the store in flip flops are Vionic. I really enjoy your videos Erin. You have given me many great ideas to consider.
The young ones have taken to wearing sneakers and runners with many dresses. Usually in white. Try it for everday. How often does an occasion demand pumps/court shoes or ballet flats? Consider Doc Martens too, shoes as well as the original boots. Better than sneakers in wet/cold weather. They don't have to be black either.
Birkenstocks never go out of style and are super comfortable and long lasting. I’ve had my beige double buckle sandals for 20 plus years, and they go with everything in the summer (& spring or fall, depending where you live).
Helps me so much. I have a high arch’s and it’s so hard to find comfortable shoes that are cute. Please do more videos i need options for cold weather in Michigan 🥶
Thank you for this video! My sister and I always have this discussion about shoes, as she always buys "old lady" shoes and I have been begging her to find more current shoes that won't ruin her look, especially when she is really dressing up for special occasions. I wore a cute pair of white wedge sandals today from b.o.c. They were SO comfortable! Granted, not all styles are modern, but they do have some that would work. I know some female docs that like to wear them as they are stylish and comfortable. You are really knocking it out of the park with great topics! Great job!
This is a great, timely video. I’m hooked on vionic. Some of their shoes are definitely frumpy, but they have some really cute shoes. I’m in love with the bella flip flops, and some of their other sandals.
I got my 76 year old mom the Rose Gold Kari Ugg shoes in your first options for her birthday and she loves them!! :) Regarding shoes, I stay away from frumpy shoes. Choosing the right shoes make a huge difference in an outfit. Thanks Erin! xo
Thank you for emphasizing that fashion and comfort aren’t mutually exclusive. I’m 47 and have congenital foot issues that are slowly getting worse with age, but I REFUSE to wear ugly shoes! Sure, I might reach a point where I only have three pairs of shoes, but darn it, those three pairs are going to be cute AND functional! 😂
Totally helpful!! It's always my dilemma to find something that does not look "OLD LADY", because fashion and comfort is important to me, still, at 67 years young. Keep up the great service on our behalf, I love your content, style, energy, and the assistance you give to many, many ladies!
Golden Goose sneakers are wretched - I tried them on and they are just did nothing for me. Nike Air Force white sneakers are super comfortable. Sam Edelman flats and sandals are really comfortable and fashionable. Steve Madden shoes always look and feel great.
Yes! Have found some beauty shoes that are comfort, game changers. Have found some super comfortable Uggs, Sketchers, Borne, Anne Taylor, some lower wedges that have extra cushion (some awesome espadrilles) and none were/are PR'd as a comfort shoe.
Thank you for these tips. I have a closet full of heels I can no longer wear...always looking for cute comfort shoes. When I find a pair, I get one in each color. I always watched the younger girls at weddings and events with their stylish high shoes and by the end of the night, everyone is dancing barefoot. I have definitely switched to comfort. I have enough aches and pains...lol. I found some inserts that help.
In addition to our feet losing the pads and arches falling, my feet have gotten larger. I wore a 7 when I got pregnant with my daughter. Slowly, I went to a 7.5, 8 and now I mostly buy an 8.5. I've had rheumatoid arthritis for 27 years, so a comfortable shoe is a non negotiable for me. A lot of the comfort shoes brands have upped their game as far as style and comfort. I have many pairs of Naturlizers, Clarks and Born, and they are my go to for comfort and style. I have found boots by Sam Edelman, the Kadison style, that have 1.75" heels, but are stylish and comfortable. I bought them in black, winter white and red. I think Louboutins are beautiful, but I could NEVER wear them. I did see in Bergdorf's fall preview that Louboutin now makes a ballet flat and the heel height is lower on some styles. Erin is correct that the majority of shoe manufacturers ignore a large demographic, and we are the ones with the most disposable income.
Bless you Erin for looking out for our best interests while many other bloggers only show what looks good on them! I truly feel that you care about our health and beauty . The people's princess 👸
Fashion + function = the dream. It's definitely hard to achieve. A few years ago, I broke both of my feet, both ankles, both legs and both knee caps in a freak accident - all at the same time. Since then, finding supportive shoes that don't look frumpy has been a real challenge for me, as I just simply can't wear what I once could. The Jambu brand is one of my favorites for both cute and comfy style. Thanks so much for your fabulous tips. - xx, Carla
I am so thrilled that you featured those Van's! I own that exact pair and love them. So cute and every time I wear them, I get compliments but I also wondered if I looked stupid because I'm 51. I love seeing the side by side comparisons of good vs bad because I really can see what you mean by how the shoes change the entire outfit.
Thanks for sharing all these great recommendations! I’m in my 40s and am now seeing the importance of comfort shoes. Have you heard of Vionic? I’ve been looking at their shoe selections and they have really cute ones, esp sandals. My friend who has plantar fasciitis swears by them (as per her doctor’s suggestion).
That’s what I was thinking! I’m wondering why I just don’t see it! I’m sure I’m heading for frumpy - because I don’t see “what it is” that’s causing the frumpiness.
Thanks for the tips! The Van's were my favorite from the recommendations; someday I need to get a pair. Otherwise, I actually liked ALL the shoes, even the frumpy ones😬😳 I wear a lot of Earth sandals in the summer and Vionic booties in the winter, because I have a bad bunion (& other foot is getting there too). Also like Munro brand shoes. Oofos flip flops are my house shoes from May to October, am on my second pair. They are SO good for plantar fasciitis. I have learned I have to prioritize my foot health over vanity if I want to delay or avoid bunion surgery for as long as possible (as far as walking around in heels - can't do that). It can cost a lot to try to still look somewhat relevant and have happy feet, but the shoes last longer... def go for classic styles.🙂
Abella makes some amazingly comfortable shoes that look amazing. Bunions have plagued me since my 20s and I haven’t been able to wear pumps for years...until now. So sleek and cute but more comfy than my slippers. Thanks so much for all your great videos! You have given me the confidence and know-how to enter my 49s in style and be the best version of myself. Keep the great content coming :)
Oh yeah! Especially Dansko. They are pricey, but soooooo worth it. I also found a super comfortable t-strap Modzori. Took a chance on them and soooo glad I did.
I have a few pair of Dansko's that are so old and unstylish but they are so comfortable I am having a hard time giving them up. They don't even look worn. Speaks of a good shoe. Yes, a bit pricey but hey...it's for your feet!
Erin, Earth brand and Vionic are brands that combine fashion and comfort for the most part.. It was helpful to see the outfits side by side. I hope you're having an awesome time on your trip!!
Recently bought a pair of Vionic. So far so good. I've worn Earth brand in the past and found them the most comfortable but not necesarrily fashionable. I'll have to take another look.
I like the basic flip flops from Vionic. I have 5 pairs of Earth Shoes. 3 of them are wedges and they are super cute and comfortable. 2 pairs are booties. They are cute too, but not as comfortable. If you have the patience to wade through all the frumpy pairs, there are lots of cute shoes! I see no reason to suffer just to be stylish!
Thank you, Erin! This is a much needed video! As one of your over 50 fans, I need a shoe with a little bit of a heel. For sneakers, I LOVE some of the styles Michael KORS puts out. Also, I have several pairs of leather insoles that I put in almost every shoe I own, from loafers to boots (I have a shearling pair for winter from Ugg).
I find this type of video SO HELPFUL ! Absolutely love these side by side comparisons as it so clearly shows how much impact the elevated choice makes ! Erin , nobody does it better ! Bravo 👏 👏👏Pam
I actually like the black shoes. Shoes should also have a heel strap. I find that when they don't, my toes end up gripping the shoe to keep my foot in place which can lead to cramps and other alignment issues. Vionic makes supportive shoes, Taos is great and Chacos is good for sandals.
I’m 73.... used to be a FA.... married to a pilot.... we travel and run thru airports, shuttle buses, “planes, trains and automobiles” - no way can I still do that in 3 inch heels!!!!!!! But I save them for what I call “Valet Shoes” (you know, door to door dinner dates) lol. Gotta have some comfy run around shoes and Erin is right, hard to find without being frumpy! I like cute shoes..... really hard to find comfy!!!!!
I would like you to explain what about the bad shoes makes them look frumpy. What about the good shoes that look more stylish so we know what to look for when shopping
Love this, Erin. You have such great taste in shoes. The Linea Paulo wedge sneakers you recommended got me through the airport no problem! Also- my husband is in the foot and ankle hardware business and said your cartilage does break down as you get older- it acts as a cushion for your joints. The “fat pad” is soft tissue which is found at the base of your toes on the underside (different from cartilage). That also breaks down over time (and worse as you wear heels.) He used to see surgeons roll up skin graft and place it in there to Re-cushion the area. He’s never heard of injections there but that’s not to say it doesn’t exist. Hope that helps ;).
I love Paul Green sneakers. They are VERY comfortable with first wear even! I just purchased a second pair at Nordstrom two days ago. They are a little pricey however. Also Alexander McQueen has some stylish and comfortable sneakers but very pricey. I saw a lady in her twenties/thirties wearing them and they looked gorgeous on her. She said "They are very comfortable and Alexander McQueen at Nordstrom or the website." Ladies please don't put fillers in your feet. That is crazy and dangerous! Those fillers have chemicals which leak into the tissue of your body and can eventually lead to autoimmune disorders.
This was a great video Erin! Thank you! I struggle with shoes and tend to head to frump town. I have good luck with Vince Camuto strappy heels. I bought them in 4 different colors. Dancing, walking etc are easy in them
Erin, you’re cracking me up with your reaction to the comfort Mary James. 🤣I’ve heard that the brand, Dear Frances, makes really comfortable shoes. They’re high end beautiful shoes, and influencers say they’re super comfy right away. But I think we’re in a good fashion place for comfort right now because loafers, mules and sneakers are so trendy . Also boots are always on trend for fall/winter and if you size up you can stick an insert in there to cushion. I think there are ways to be comfy while wearing more mainstream shoes.
I don’t find the selection of comfort shoes to be grim. I’m having trouble not buying more! I love brands like Sofft, Taos, Comfortiva, Soul by Naturalizer, and Pikolinos. I know you panned those Mary Janes by Pikolinos, but they are still cute and go with different outfits other than jeans (better with a short skirt). One of our bees, Heidi Michel, on the hive, rocks Pikolinos all the time! My Dillard’s has a great selection. Nordstrom Rack too! The Walking Store is also in my mall. Sofft online is always having sales too!
Love the frumpy shoe videos! You are absolutely right for all of these. They’re godawful, especially the Mary Janes. I’ve really improved my wardrobe thanks to your precious advice. Thank you ❤️
My mom is in her mid 60s and she loves Hush puppies comfort wise and they are identical to Tory Burch and another pair that has a golden buckle hardware looks like Gucci .. what I mean to say is that these brands know what people want and they get inspiration from high end designers with a fraction of the price plus comfort
I enjoyed this alot, you are not only fashionable but very sensible and smart in regard to looking great no matter what age, I think is important to feel good about yourself, and fashion is one way doing that.
The Rockport Women's Lyla Sandals! You'd NEVER know they're Rockports...they've got a 2.78-inch wedge and look fantastic (and youthful!), and feel like you're walking on clouds.
Wow, I love the bad good side by side pictures. The visual really helped me so when I'm shopping I have a reference point. I have feet issues and my shoe game really brings down my style game.
I have those white Naturalizers! Ecco also makes nice leather sneakers that I can put my orthotics in. That’s how I got rid of plantar fasciitis. I have some Vionic ballet flats that are cute, flat, and actually have arch support.
@@kathyransom245 Depends on if you have the app or just looking in your browser. There should be a little arrow next to the title of the video (looks like a little "v") or off to the right under the video. If you click on that it will expose the description box. You can also subscribe to her emails on her website busbeestyle.com. (Just a fan of the site and thought I would help :)
Who knew some of these were frumpy. I love Clark's, Naturalizer and Easy Spirit. No break in time needed. Love these videos. Erin looks fabulous in anything!
Amazing Erin, what a great video and what a difference! I like that you are addressing casuals looks that we can wear to a big box, grocery shopping etc. Keep up the great work!!
Vans don’t have the right support for my feet (same with Converse), but I’m a HUGE fan of old-school canvas PF Flyers! I own at least 8 pairs in a variety of colors, and they look really cute with jeans and shorts, even casual dresses. Also, I’ve been a Zappos customer since they started in the late 90s, and their customer service is STELLAR, with free shipping and returns. But I don’t find their search feature thorough enough, so once I find a shoe I like, I search by that brand. So if you like something from Naturalizer or Clarks for instance, look at their brand pages instead of depending on all their styles showing up in a comfort category.
@@i.e.presents638 It's a sneaker brand -- "PF Flyers" . People my age (baby boomer) usually grew up in a PF Flyers house, a Converse house or a Keds house! Google them -- they're old school cute!
All brand such as Clark, Vionics, Hush Puppies, Dansko , Vans…doesn’t make me feel comfortable with wide wide & annoying bunions on both feet. 😭 Am a shoekaholic, only disappointment when I walk in shoe stores. wear double wide width travel clogs most of the time. My whole closet of expensive beautiful shoes are just for display. I can’t wear any shoes with heels now. To find a modern , fashionable, beautiful, comfort shoes is like a dream. :-(
I would really love you to do a video about shoes that are the most flattering for larger ankles/legs. It's always a struggle to find shoes that work well for me.
Agree, I have that issue. I find firstly thin straps and also preferably not around your ankle as straps around your ankle cut you off and emphasize the size of the ankle.
Thanks Erin! Great video. I turned 50 in June and I swear it was like a switch went off in my feet - instant arthritis. Your side-by-side comparison photos were definitely helpful. I love the Naturalizer white sneakers and am going to buy a pair right now! I purchased a pair of Vionic sandals this summer and my feet are very comfortable in them. Am also thinking of trying their sneakers for exercise. Thanks again. Love your videos!
Hallelujah! I wish I could tell everyone this very same message! My pet peeve is frump-tank shoes. Just stop! THANKS and keep educating us all!! p.s. love the jean jacket.
I knew a newscaster who would take pain-relieving medication before having to MC a gala in a gown and high-heels! Makes the filler not sound like a bad idea. I swear by FitFlops and Hoka One One for sneakers. And make sure to look for the Vans styles with the upgraded memory foam cushion.
The problem with comfort shoes is that they make them so wide with a big round toe box. I need the arch support, but have a lot of problems finding something that fits narrow enough.
Thank u Erin, great tips, yes I am definitely having issues w/ my feet n can’t find the shoes either, uhg sooo frustrating! Hopefully someone will start helping the above 40’s ladies, get some great shoes n comfy too! ❤️
I’m in Australia and I have foot issues. There are two brands here that absolutely rock the comfort shoes.... Frankie4 (I own several pairs) and Bared Footwear. Both worth checking out! Not cheap.... but I’ll pay extra to be truly comfortable
Yes. This helps a lot. Always on the hunt for cute comfort shoes. My fav’s: Paul Green, Anyi Lu, Vionic, Taryn Rose, Munro, L’Amour des Pieds and occasionally Dr. Scholls. Designer brands: Gucci and Prada.
--------
Comfort shoes mean different things to different people based on their foot problem.
www.schulershoes.com/foot-health/foot-issues/
And while we all would like to wear the best-looking shoe for our outfit, some of us actually need support to keep our ankles from turning in because we have flat or pronating feet.
Could you review shoes from Schuler Shoes site for helping us with foundational feet issues?
www.schulershoes.com/women-s.html
I love that they also make available to customers meeting with one of their CPeds for a FREE foot evaluation! (I personally should only buy shoes after they've evaluated my feet cuz I've invested in several expensive shoes that may not be what's best for me. My long-time go to that I'd get compliments on was the Think brand Mizzy Face sandal.
www.schulershoes.com/womens-mizzi-face-by-think-womensmizzifacethink.html
(They felt SO good and helped to properly align me.
Xoxo
Agreed, and if we have to shop online then we need to know what to look for when looking at the shoe before purchase.
I have similar "old lady" Mary Janes...I'll keep em. I think they're cute, and I'm not into white sneakers tho we're seeing them everywhere now
Agree.
Can you explain what it is about the frumpy sandals that makes them so and point out the differences in your alternatives? I can see your choices look better, but I want to know why so I can apply these rules going forward.
Ditto!!
Jennifer Jones exactly!
Is someone stopping you from wearing nice shoes? Wear what you think is best!
It’s even harder for women who have wider feet to find cute comfort shoes.
My feet are on the narrower side, and I have a lot of problems finding comfort shoes that aren’t too wide.
So true
dsison18 so true
that my feet after babys
I wear a D width or WW. It is so frustrating to shop for shoes. I have skipped buying a cute outfit when I didn’t think I’d find shoes to wear with it.
Starting your own shoe line and flattering dresses for the post 45 year old woman....best idea ever! Luv all of your suggestions!
Maybe one day, Melanie! xo
Or just collaborate with a shoe company as a style designer. Style cute shoes & have them apply the orthopedic foot pads to all your designs.
I live in vionic flip flops. If I want to dress up I’ll wear other shoes but not if I’m going to stand and walk a lot.
Loved but need more explanation about what specifically it is that makes the frumpy shoes frumpy. Is it the ankle strap? (I get the Mary Janes concept.) Thanks! Love (and need) your advice ❤️
Is it a total lack of heel?
I do think it’s sometimes a fine line between an okay shoe and one that really elevates an outfit. Some of the tricks I default to when I’m wondering if a shoe falls into one category or another are: 1) a bit of a heel is always a good idea (Eileen Fisher & Vionic make great comfort heels), 2) a flesh toned shoe is generally going to be more versatile and create a nice silhouette, and 3) steer clear of ankle straps if you have thick ankles. 😊 Great video!
I learned that about ankle straps. But, if you're wearing pants you won't see them, and they help me keep looser shoes from falling off
Ecco has some nice looking comfy shoes, they do both ranges. The frumpy looking ones and also modern ones that are well padded😊👍🏼
I have found sandals, shoes and boots from the company Born to be really flattering and comfortable. Not described as comfort shoes but this company knows feet. They use quality materials. I have bunions and am in my 70’s. Still love the Borns I have purchased. They look and feel ageless.
Born is amazing comfort!!! Agree
I have about 8 pairs of Born shoes. They are so comfortable and well made. They still use the Opanka method for constructing their shoes. They last a very long time.
The best
Born frumpy, IMO 😂
It would be helpful to see the side view of the “bad” looks, to give a better idea of what looks to avoid. Thanks!
Vicksburg Blues Society HERITAGE MUSIC SERIES I was thinking the same thing!!!
And close-ups!!
Susan Holl What fo your mean by “drop”?
I've found a few contradicting pieces of advice out there:
1. Go barefoot most of the time or very little padding in shoes
2. Wear stiff soled, "supportive" shoes ALL the time, including supportive slippers indoors.
LOL
I just have to laugh.
My biggest gripe is dress shoes and boots without even the smallest tred for ice and snow!
Yes!!
You need to follow CB Styled on Instagram, she's in Canada and does an extensive review of winter boots. I had NO idea that boots were made for snow & ice and could be so stylish. Good luck!
I really find Clark’s to be comfy and they have some cute choices!
Thanks for sharing, Marilyn! xo
I’m a teacher and generally (before covid) am on my feet all day. I’ve bought comfort shoes to feel comfortable but there’s nothing worse than students telling me I’m wearing grandma shoes 😂
I hear you! I'm a teacher too. Suffering for style!
My adult daughter says everything I wear is ‘Grandma.’ Her latest comment was ‘Grandma jewelry.’ Who knew??🤣🤣👵🏻
Merrill, a shoe company known for their hiking boots, makes insanely comfy sandals. Not all of them are cute but they have a good selection of models of slip ons/flip flops that are cute and comfy.
The sandals are not cute at all...nope
Frumpy, grandparents shoes. Unisex.
Yes! More of this please! How to pick tops for bottoms. Shoes with jeans. Jewelry. All for the fashion challenged. Thank you!❤️😎
This definitely helps however I would love to see all the shoes close up like you did with the last pair.
Vionic has some cute modern styles, and they provide great arch support. Also Aetrix has some nice styles and very comfortable and supportive.
I’ve been buying the Vionic brand for about two years and love their styles such as wedge sandals.
Awesome! Thank you and welcome Carina! xo
Robin P. I have painful bunions. Will yoga help? If so, can you recommend what yoga exercises. Thank you.
Oh, no!! I have a pair of the NO sandals!!! However, I have many of the GOOD ones!!! Guess what I'm getting rid of today!! Lol. Thank you for your guidance. Love your channel!
I guess I need help! I didn’t see anything wrong with the “bad” shoes!
Neither did I.
You don't need help....It's just the economy that wants your help.
I mentioned ECCO booties last year in my comfy “flats” video... but didn’t see any sandals
Ecco knows how to angle in attractively without squeezing your toes. Just because we want a roomy toe box doesn't mean we want bulbous tips like Minnie Mouse shoes. Shoemakers! Hire Women!
Thanks for the tip. Cute shoes going to check out!
Love this. I would love to see comfort shoes to wear with dresses. Big problem for me with older feet and bunions. Thank you.
Yes, bunions are so annoying!
I agree, Mary! I have some great Vionics- my most recent is a pair of black thong sandals. Also have those Bella flip flops!
Mary Barfield the Minna flats are very similar to the Chanel ballet flat without the crazy price tag!
Thank you so much, Victoria! I'm so glad this was helpful! xo
I also have RA and you may enjoy Vionic shoes ❤️
It's so frustrating isn't it?
I love all the sexy shoes, but many are slides, which can be challenging to keep on your feet, particularly if you're doing a lot of walking! 😂
- xx, Carla
Thank you for sharing, Carla! xo
Wow!!
I'm so glad you found this video helpful, Jackie! Keep rocking your Vans! Thanks for watching. xo
You're so welcome, Aby! I have heard of them. I know a lot of women swear by them. xo
I'm sorry but the good and bad shoes look the same to me...😬 Maybe more side views and close ups would've been more convincing..
Also PLAE snickers are cute and comfy, I discovered them because my kid only wears PLAE shoes and they now have a line for adults
Love, love all of the new videos for older women. Please keep them coming!
You're so cute that you look good in the "comfort shoes":).
Dying....Frumpytown. Hilarious! I got a good lol. Thanks. Love your channel as always.
Thanks so much, Christina! xo
Clark’s and Dansko make super comfy stylish shoes.
Thanks for the recommendation! 😀
I would like to add Ecco shoes.
Love Danskos!
erin, i love that you equated finding cute comfort shoes with finding an evening dress with sleeves!!!! the struggle is real!!!
Erin, Earth brand and Vionic are brands that combine fashion and comfort for the most part.. It was helpful to see the outfits side by side. I hope you're having an awesome time on your trip!!
I agree, Christine!
You're SO welcome, Heather! xo
Madewell carries some super cute shoes, and trainers that are also very comfy. Great tips as always Erin!
I find this type of video SO HELPFUL ! Absolutely love these side by side comparisons as it so clearly shows how much impact the elevated choice makes ! Erin , nobody does it better ! Bravo 👏 👏👏Pam
Glad it was helpful, Pamela! Thank you! xo
I actually like the black shoes. Shoes should also have a heel strap. I find that when they don't, my toes end up gripping the shoe to keep my foot in place which can lead to cramps and other alignment issues. Vionic makes supportive shoes, Taos is great and Chacos is good for sandals.
Anything slip-on is a no-no for those of use with osteoporosis.
Thank you for this helpful video! I’m in my 60s and find any Vionic brand shoes to be extremely comfortable, even when I’m on my feet all day.
I am 69 going on 70 & you can’t convince me to wear less then 3 inch heel shoe 😄😂
I’m 73.... used to be a FA.... married to a pilot.... we travel and run thru airports, shuttle buses, “planes, trains and automobiles” - no way can I still do that in 3 inch heels!!!!!!! But I save them for what I call “Valet Shoes” (you know, door to door dinner dates) lol. Gotta have some comfy run around shoes and Erin is right, hard to find without being frumpy! I like cute shoes..... really hard to find comfy!!!!!
That’s awesome!!!!! Rock those gorgeous shoes for those of us who can’t 👠👠👠👠👠
This is just what I needed to see given the fact that I am 67 and have so much trouble with my feet! Thanks so much.
Thank you for sharing! The Linea Paulo wedge is my go to travel shoe as well! xo
She said "They are very comfortable and Alexander McQueen at Nordstrom or the website."
Ladies please don't put fillers in your feet. That is crazy and dangerous! Those fillers have chemicals which leak into the tissue of your body and can eventually lead to autoimmune disorders.
Barbara Blackmon YES, please don’t get fillers. Seriously
This was a great video Erin! Thank you! I struggle with shoes and tend to head to frump town.
I have good luck with Vince Camuto strappy heels. I bought them in 4 different colors. Dancing, walking etc are easy in them
Thank you, Kelly! xo
Adidas cloud white sneaker is SO comfortable and cute!
Vionic is really upping their style game and this summer and the Fall preview have REALLY cute offerings. LOVE Vionic Flip Flops
Cole Haan is having a huge sale. The Grand Series is super comfortable and has several great options.
Yes, I have some Pikolinos that they sell in a trendy shoe store in Covent Garden in London. They are a neutral colour and so comfortable.
I would definitely wear those Pikolinos.
Erin C I thought the Pikolinos were cute too. They’re also very European which, in my opinion, makes them automatically cool.
No, those Picolinos are godawful. Erin is right, they’re frump city.
Love the frumpy shoe videos! You are absolutely right for all of these. They’re godawful, especially the Mary Janes. I’ve really improved my wardrobe thanks to your precious advice. Thank you ❤️
You are so welcome! I'm glad you found this helpful! xo
Going to check them out right now! Thank you! 💜
Wow, I love the bad good side by side pictures. The visual really helped me so when I'm shopping I have a reference point. I have feet issues and my shoe game really brings down my style game.
Glad it was helpful! xo
I have those white Naturalizers! Ecco also makes nice leather sneakers that I can put my orthotics in. That’s how I got rid of plantar fasciitis. I have some Vionic ballet flats that are cute, flat, and actually have arch support.
Ecco, a brand I love.
How do I find the description box? And sign up for email? I use an iPad. Not sure if that is my problem or not.
Thank you SO much, Gail! xo
Clark’s - they make a lot of frumpy shoes, but every season I find a few super cute pairs. They have great support and cushioning.
Great to know!! Yes, seems like every brand has a few good options... just wish they all had more to choose from.
M A Walker PF? Wassat?
M A Walker I love my PF Flyers❣️❣️❣️❣️so old school ,classic yet cool😊👍
@@i.e.presents638 It's a sneaker brand -- "PF Flyers" . People my age (baby boomer) usually grew up in a PF Flyers house, a Converse house or a Keds house! Google them -- they're old school cute!
Try the Vans comfy cushy version. It has done wonders for my feet.
YES! at 75 yrs. young I finally bought comfy shoes.I like how yours look loose aroungd the bunion area.I just got one this year .
new friend thumbs up
I would really love you to do a video about shoes that are the most flattering for larger ankles/legs. It's always a struggle to find shoes that work well for me.
~ Yes please, that would be a helpful video for sure, Carrie, I do hope it happens, I'm sure it would help many of the women, in this category. ~
Agree, I have that issue. I find firstly thin straps and also preferably not around your ankle as straps around your ankle cut you off and emphasize the size of the ankle.
I love the Sofft shoes, especially their dress shoes. I can wear them for hours and not experience any pain. They have sandals and sneakers as well.
Vionic shoes are quality comfort shoes
You're so welcome, Colleen! xo
Colleen Delaney Tank shoes? Wassat?
Thank you. Very helpful having the comparison pics side by side.
Why don't they make sandals with straps wider, so it hides bunions? 🙄 😁 💜
Amen to that!
They are out there. Just have to dig and look more. I have bunions too and found Dansko, Modzori and clarks have some choices.
Paul green makes cute sandals w/ wider straps.
Exactly! But even models wear those sandals with thin straps which don't look good at all not to mention they are so uncomfortable.
@@cherylrevell3081 Thanks for that tip. I'm in the bunion club.
Before and afters in the same shot is definitely helpful 👍🏼
I knew a newscaster who would take pain-relieving medication before having to MC a gala in a gown and high-heels! Makes the filler not sound like a bad idea. I swear by FitFlops and Hoka One One for sneakers. And make sure to look for the Vans styles with the upgraded memory foam cushion.
THESE TIPS WERE VERY HELPFUL ERIN!! Thank you!!
Glad it was helpful! xo
The problem with comfort shoes is that they make them so wide with a big round toe box. I need the arch support, but have a lot of problems finding something that fits narrow enough.
Try Boc shoes. My feet are narrow and they look really good in them.
Thank u Erin, great tips, yes I am definitely having issues w/ my feet n can’t find the shoes either, uhg sooo frustrating! Hopefully someone will start helping the above 40’s ladies, get some great shoes n comfy too! ❤️
I also liked the "bad" shoes as much as the replacements and they do look more comfortable. Frumptown, here I come.
I’m in Australia and I have foot issues. There are two brands here that absolutely rock the comfort shoes.... Frankie4 (I own several pairs) and Bared Footwear. Both worth checking out! Not cheap.... but I’ll pay extra to be truly comfortable
Thanks for sharing, Linda! xo
Need to understand a bit more of why the design in the bad shoes is bad/wrong.
The feet look fat and flat in those sandals. Very unflattering.
I'm so glad it was helpful, Edna! xo
