I always wonder if the shoe component is one reason skinny jeans were popular for so long, you can pretty much wear any shoes with them. I go through the same process with every pair of jeans I have now to see what shoes I can wear with what jeans, it is exhausting. I totally agree with you about gym shoes.

Pointed toe shoes were in style when I was young. Caused me to have toe problems requiring medical attention. So seeing them fashions again brings back bad memories

I really needed this video! Perfect timing as I am going through my latest purchases and trying to decide what shoes to wear with them. I have a lot of the Chico’s Girlfriend slim straight leg style in different washes and colors, so those are pretty easy as I have to get them hemmed to be at my ankle in the right place. The tricky ones are a pair of Chico’s trouser jeans. I measured the leg opening and they are 18.5 Inches which is a few inches less than most wide legs. I bought the trouser jeans in petite and they are a little short to wear with a pointed toe slim ankle boot (also from Chico’s); however, after watching this video, I will wear them with a pair of lug sole suede loafers from last year that are not clunky, pointed toe flats or a loafer mule. They are long enough that they don’t get caught up in the vamp of the loafers and there is no break in the jean above the instep. I think I was able to answer my question with your video! Am I on the right track here? Would love to know what you would pair with them. As much as I like the boots and they are surprisingly comfortable, I think I will return them as I don’t want to have to buy a bunch of wide leg jeans or flares to go with them. I have mostly slim straight jeans in my closet. Thanks for the great info! It really helps seeing visual examples of what looks good and what doesn’t.
A break in the jeans across the instep as fine as long as you don't have so much of a break that they look too long.

Great tips and tricks for wearing boots with our fall/winter jeans. I never leave the house without lugging my shoes or boots to the foyer full length mirror and trying on at least 2, 3, or 4 styles of boots on. You just never know which one might work best. I have all lengths like you & alot of cropped ones too. With full length flare or wide leg it is usually a 3 inch heel boot for me. I bought Dolce Vita Silma western boot at DSW in a nude color, only 5.5 left so with my power step pad in it & a slim thin sock, worked out beautifully for my look today. I was looking for a mule........story of my life, ha! I gave away alot of my shoes & boots to VA drop box the other day. I love these videos so don't stop making them! You do such a great job!!!

I actually liked the skinny jean and boot combo, just not with the cropped sweater. A longer tunic style top would look super cute with the pop of sock and showing off the detail on the boot. You look fabulous in everything Serena!
And I think that's exactly what I said in the video....treat your skinny jeans like leggings and wear a longer sweater.

Thank you so much for the video! Very helpful! One of the problems I have with various types of Jean styles is how to organize them so you can find the different cuts easily. When they’re hanging or folded sometimes it’s hard to know which ones are which, lol Serena, do you have any tips for that? That might be a great video idea on how you organize your jeans etc.
@@racergurlrt7970 I have all mine hanging from skirt hangers so I can quickly see the lengths & leg styles. You can see them hanging in a lot of my YT videos. I have some more in my closet but I don't wear those as often.

Great and helpful video. Just one comment. Sometimes we need to wear the “Wrong shoe” because of foot problems. I have really painful feet if I don’t wear my orthotics and unfortunately they only fit in certain shoes- usually athletic shoes. But I do appreciate seeing lovely, stylish shoes. Thanks for keeping us on trend.
@@janetdand2704 they make "cute" sneakers for problem feet now! Both Calla shoes and Sole Bliss make them. Yes, they are pricey but they are great.
I’m almost 65 & the best shoes I bought this season is a Leopard Print pair of Converse. They are comfortable, the prints in style, Kamala wears Converse & I can dress them up or down. I get tons of compliments on them from kids to seniors so I’ll keep wearing them!

I used to wear the chunky sneakers with the too long straight or baggy jeans years ago! After seeing this video I can’t believe that I did that 😑. Oh well… Now I have much more awareness of style. Better late than never!

Great video and I totally agree with you on all points, especially about the sneakers. I now have a great explanation for why I need so many pairs of jeans. I also have multiple styles of boots and Dr. Scholl’s TIME OFF sneakers for the reasons you mentioned. I really wish I could find the very first pair of jeans you wore!

Where in TN do you live? I grew up in TN and lived most of my life there. Cowboy boots are NOT the preferred footwear! TN isn't Texas! lol. Maybe for country music artists or tourists in Nashville but not 99% of Tennesseans.

I have recently purchased 3 different Hoka shoes to wear to our Disney trip with our Grandkids! So I don’t understand which jeans to wear with my Hoka’s? You said no no no with the jeans you had on with your Hoka’s. Then you proceeded to show something to wear instead and took off your Hoka’s! So now I need help with what to wear with my Hoka’s!

Disney is one of those places where activewear is totally appropriate & practical and you can wear your HOKA's there. Joggers, leggings, athletic shorts & skorts....all are fine with HOKA's. Think to yourself "what would I wear if I was going on a long walk or going to the gym?" That's what you wear with HOKA's. NEVER jeans! If you wear jeans with them, I will personally come find you and make you change! 😂😂
I don't see anything wrong with the slim straight jeans worn with your Hoka sneakers. What am I missing? Why do you think it looks bad?
You don't wear athletic sneakers with anything other than athletic bottoms...joggers, leggings, athletic shorts, skorts, etc. You don't wear them with jeans or khakis or any non-athletic pants. If you want to wear jeans, wear a pair of cute fashion sneakers like I changed into in the video.
On top of that, if your jeans are resting on top of your shoe laces, they are too long. Wear some ankle crop jeans with sneakers.
I do not agree with many of your recommendations for jeans / shoe combos but wanted to say you are looking very healthy and fit which I assume is due to your new diet and exercise regime. It’s working well and you look great.

I need a good pair of walking sneakers to wear with jeans. They need to have firm backs and soles because I had sprained my ankle recently and I want to get back to walking soon. Would either of those sneakers you showed be good enough? Or are they soft? Do you have a video on walking sneakers/shoes?
I dont know what you mean by "walking sneakers". If it's something you're wearing for exercise, you wouldn't wear them with jeans. If you want to wear sneakers with jeans, they don't need to be walking/running sneakers. That doesn't mean they can't be comfortable! I've worn my P448 sneakers all over Europe, NYC, Washington DC, etc etc. The ones by Dolce Vita that I wore in this video are very comfortable as well.
It sounds like you're looking for shoes for exercise. In that case, HoKA's are great but DO NOT wear them with jeans! Ask yourself: would I wear these shoes to the gym? If the answer is yes, DON'T wear them with jeans!

I go out walking with a friend and I usually wear jeans. I have heard of the Hoka sneakers, maybe from you. I just got a new pair of sweatpants with a matching zip up hoodie, so I guess that’s what I should wear? I have not been to a gym in years. My teenage daughter likes my new sweatpants and zip up hoodie and wants me to wear it to the mall when I take her shopping. Apparently it’s stylish enough according to her. 😂 I don’t know what shoes to wear though for the mall? I need a pair of Hoka sneakers.
@@aprilxm I wouldn't walk in jeans. If you are wearing Nike, New Balance, HOKA, etc etc, don't wear jeans. Wear your sweatsuit!

Joggers, not jeans.
Also, I've walked all over NYC, Washington DC, Amsterdam, etc etc in GOOD fashion sneakers. You don't have to wear HOKA's. Check out P448 brand. They are made in Italy and that's what I have worn with no problem whatsoever.
If you wear the gym style trainers like HOKA's, On Cloud, etc you will also stand out like a sore thumb as an American tourist in Europe, making yourself a bigger target for pickpockets etc.

Hi Serena, first, I love your show. I love your accent, which reminds me of my friend Belinda from Alabama (God rest her soul. 💔) Well, to be honest, there are lots of reasons I love your videos. You get to the point, without unnecessary stuff taking up time, you have good taste in general but also for the over 50 crowd, you always give us an assortment of items at different price points to choose from, and I feel you're genuine and caring about our feelings. You never come out and insult our current look, but you say neutral things like, that could put you into frumpy territory, lol.
Ok, now, i do have one observation: i dont know many women over 40 even, much less 50, who like a high heel or a pointy toe. Most of us have bunions, foot problems, and me, I have a high instep and need a good toe box. I respectfully request that you present some of those options when talking shoes. I dont mean orthopedic. Just a style or two with a good toe box and some good support (not too much! We have flat feet, too). Is that a tall order? Yep. But I think you can do it. Check out Marnie Goldberg. She needs a good toe box. (But she does do too many high or pointy heels, too.) Hence, why I watch both of you! ❤
Debra, I appreciate your observation. Surely you've heard me say NUMEROUS times in my videos that I suffer from bunions myself. I've discovered that if you size up 1/2 size in pointy toe shoes, especially boots, this takes care of the problem most of the time. Plus, I'm very picky about the shoes I share on my channel and if I'm trying a shoe that's uncomfortable, I will let you know!
I don't have wide feet, flat feet, high insteps, high arches, hammer toes or any other foot ailment aside from bunions, so it's impossible for me to know what shoes will work for all those issues. But I WILL show shoes that work for my bunions, and if they don't I'll be sure to let you know. 😊
I guess I will never get used to the ankle jeans. The Chelsea boots are not a good look for me either.

When I walk the dog input on my walking sneakers with what ever I am wearing. I don’t change my pants. Not for a 40 minute walk! Some days I am a frumpy dog walker I guess!
If you're just walking the dog, do whatever. Me personally, I DO change into either joggers or leggings bc if I'm walking for 30-40 minutes, I don't want to wear jeans. But that's just me.

Everyone on RUclips is pushing wide leg jeans, but I have not seen 1 woman in my area wearing them. Only my young granddaughter's
Where do you live? I don't live in a huge city but I see women in them.
I am 6 ft tall. Heels - why?! I am tall enough. Every store has a petite section & plus size section. Tall pants/jeans add 2 inches to the length but never change the stride. Camel toe is real life. Tops stop at the widest part of my rear. Short women - you have sooo many options.
@@kippykate9905 😂😂😂. NO we do not! Yes we can put on heels. But high rise jeans? Forget it. They come up under my boobs. Sleeves on shirts, jackets, sweaters are always too long unless you can find them in petite and that's not often.
If your tops end at the widest part of your butt, tuck them in!
You don't have to wear heels, wear whatever you want. But you're watching my channel and as I've mentioned numerous times, I am 5'2" so of course my point of view is that of a petite woman.
When I used to buy pants in the tall size, the rise was usually increased compared to the regular size. Don’t they still do this. With all the high rise and now super high rise pants, I am finding it’s too high which causes the extra fabric to bunch up in the crotch area. There are also a lot of regular size jeans that come in very long lengths and they aren’t specifically marked tall. I find myself buying pants marked short and they’re not petite sizes. Nothing is standardized today for pant length.

I think the whole heel height thing is part of what made skinny/straight leg jeans so easy. Once you get into wider leg, bootcut or flare, it's super obvious if they're too short. Pants are now 2-3 inches too long for me & I don't wear heels. It's annoying to have to get them hemmed before I can wear them. They claim to be 30'" or 31" but rarely are. Petite would be too short. Grrr.

Serena, I forgot to comment on your last (or second to the last) video. You asked for ideas for videos for the holidays. I would love to see your ideas regarding stylish, comfortable outfits for when you're the hostess. I almost always cook Thanksgiving dinner. It's challenging wearing something that can go from the kitchen to the dining room without having to change before dinner.

All of this is exactly why my husband thinks I’m too picky. Just wear jeans and boots. Why do you spend so much time trying things on? Why do you sent so much back? If you want things to look right, you have to be picky.

I guess I need to find a good seamstress to hem my jeans!! My favorite and most worn jeans are my 90s pinch waist Agolde and they puddle a little!! I am sure they do not look good from what I have learned here!! The problem is that while I am 5’5 all inseams unless offered in a petite length are too long!!! Why can’t these expensive designers give us length options? At least men get that!!! I wish my legs were longer!! I only love all cotton true denim jeans and I have found my perfect ones except in length!!!

Agree! I generally buy only men's jeans now since I prefer majority cotton and want choices on the inseam.
So what kind of socks do you wear with your fashion sneakers and ankle jeans? Especially if you want warm ankles!
I wear no show socks with them. If it's cold enough that my ankles need to be covered, I'm wearing some kind of boot. But for regular day-to-day in & out of the car running errands, etc. my ankles don't have time to get cold.
I am almost 80 but love the Lee dress jeans but can’t wear any type heels! What about a boot ankle height with a low wedge type heel? Is it completely out of style?
@@annkeith6954 wedge heels on booties aren't exactly in style. You can wear an ankle bootie with a low block heel, 1 inch or less. Just make sure it doesn't have a very wide, rounded toe area. You can find comfy boots/shoes that have plenty of room in the toe box without looking clunky. And make sure the bootie comes ABOVE your ankle! The very low ankle booties are not in style. Sorry, but the wide leg jeans look frumpy to me no matter what shoe is worn. Are not flattering at all. Straight leg and boot cut are much more flattering.
Full-length wide leg jeans with a pointed or almond-toe boot with a heel are very leg-lengthening & slimming. The key is to find ones that fit well.
