Having three kids and 3 grand children I will advise from experience. Before I sewed it together I would use the top to cut out two muslin turtle forms, sew them together, stuff them then stuff the turtle with it. It might take a day for my young ones to find the zipper, unzip it and remove the stuffing, all over the house. This is how the higher quality stuffed animals are done. That also allows you to remove the cover to wash it. You don't need a zipper on the muslin pillow. Just stuff and sew shut. I like your zipper application. I might try that with other pillows to prevent the struggle of seeing an opening shut on a seam line.
My thoughts exactly. I thought by creating a zipper on the underside would mean that he would have created an inner casing for the filler. But No…Whoever designed this may not be aware of what such little “terrors” will do once they see that zipper. It will be, look mummy, I found snow and now it’s everywhere…😅😅😅
I just found you a couple days ago and i really enjoy watching you. You do such a great job, i love the turtle my grandkids would love them. Thank again for letting us see they sure are cute.
Thank you.....you can only use so many quilts and this is a nice change......I hope to see more like this. I also have lots of scraps.....thanks again!
Love the tutorial. Though, I will admit to hollering "No! Don't put the iron on the cutting mat!" when you ironed the eyes on the turtle! Am I the only one? Thanks for sharing all the fun tutorials!
Love this pattern!! And just found out a friend who likes turtles is pregnant so this will make a great gift! However I do not use dropbox which appears to be the only way to down load the pattern :(. I do have Jenny Doans half hexi templates so I will use that for thw center and just cut random width strips for the shell. Love the idea about dor using it for stuffed animal storage! Awesome!!
You should be able to open the file without a dropbox account, but if it still does not work you can email contact@sewyeahquilting.com and we can email the PDF to you
I got so excited to see that you guys have a shop, and I was going to buy one of these, but was very disappointed to find you're a fabric shop 😂 that's ok though! I shall make one myself! It'll take awhile because it'd be handsewn but I enjoy such adventures :))
It would be cool to figure out a way to stuff it, but also add a pocket so the kids could stash something... I’m going to make these for my granddaughter!
Too cute and easy to follow! It made me nervous when you used scissors to get your points out, I use my purple thang so there's no chance to cut or poke through my fabric!
Outstanding job !! Love love love the idea 💕 so thrilled I found you guys ! I think I got your name this time too ! Just need some info on how to order this from here ? Have a cell link only ... looking forward to seeing kids faces of wonder and surprise when they spy this awesome turtle 🐢! Thanks very much for post👍🏼
As you can see we are behind on the replies. I am trying to catch up and stay that way. I hope you have found the answer to any questions you had and thanks for watching!
But then the kid couldn't lay on it while watching TV, or cuddle with it, or read it stories while in bed together. This ain't about convenience for Mama, this is about the kid having a giant turtle to chill with. You want to put the other toys up, get a toy box. As a former owner of a giant plush turtle circa 1965, I know a little about tortoise care.

Good Lord, what does it take, five minutes to pull the stuffing out??? Probably needs a re-fluff after Bubba and Sissy have been laying on it anyway. If you are the sewist, the only other option is make an inner bag out of muslin for the stuffing, and make the zipper much longer so you can pull out the stuffing bag when its time to wash the turtle. I'm also a big fan of velcro for closing things that kids and pets use.

Very cool tutorial! These would make great pet beds if you used really strong fabrics and the seams are reinforced really well. ;-)
That's a great idea, thank you!

Sorry about that! We'll try and work for more IOS friendly downloads in the future.
great project : )

steam a seam tip-pull off only 1 strip (backing) at a time, fold & iron. It's easier to iron that way
Thanks for the tip!
You know if you used that bigger zipper I bet instead of stuffing you could fill it with all those plush toys we seem to accumulate.
jwild259 that’s a good idea! Especially for my daughters toys.

I would love to make this in different sizes. Is there a way to make the pattern in different sizsr
