    This video is wonderful and so is the host! Years ago, I dabbled in quilting. I made a few baby and children's quilts in simple patterns and machine quilted them. I love the look of the puffy quilts but knew I wasn't good enough to attempt anything too complicated. Thanks to the clear explanations and demonstrations provided by this video, I think I just might attempt my first quilt in years. And BTW I'm happy to be a new subscriber. The RUclips algorithm suggested this to me and it's kind of eerie that it got something totally right!

    Lovely quilt, liked the one on the wall too. In a way it is a great beginner project, straight seams, a bit of pleating. ........ But then the 'fun' starts, getting the filling into these small pillows without putting in too much, or too little. I have made this quilt long time ago, and it is a lovely cover o the bed in the wintertime when it is cold here in Norway.

    • @kennethstensrud669

      @@camouflagejumpsuit no, I seed with the seams 'inside' the pillows, that is, I made it kind of inside out if that makes any sence. When 'peeling' the pillows aside/back, you see the raw edges of it all.

    I'm in the process of making a quilt like this, and have developed a method of my own . Before sewing the two different sizes of fabric together I cut a small slit in the smaller piece to insert the fibrefil, then stitch around all four sides. I guessatmate the amount required then weigh it on my kitchen scales that way I know each 'poof' will have an equal amount in it. I then stitch the small slit together, ensuring the fibrefil stays in place, after which I join the squares until the desired size is reached. The backing fabric is cut slightly lager and stitched right sides facing leaving a gap along one side. I turn the quilt right side out and stitch around the edges including the gap space. The last stage is stitch in the ditch, usually three rows apart, then sign and date on the reverse side in one corner, using colour coordinated embroidery thread

    • @louiealbrecht1088
      @louiealbrecht1088 4 года назад +2

      I think that your method is ingenious! I have a kitchen scale somewhere and I plan on digging it out and using it for measuring the "poofs," too! Great idea!

      @danigooler4564 4 года назад +2

      With your method, maybe you could wait to stuff the squares until you had a whole row and joined a second row to the first row, then stuff the first row. Then repeat the process where you don't stuff until a new row was joined, then stuff the previous row. Maybe even don't stuff the edge puffs until after the backing was sewn on. I've never made this kind of quilt, but want to. Would this work?

    • @victoriaphillips8852
      @victoriaphillips8852 4 года назад +1

      Dani Gooler, your suggestion is a very good idea. To answer your question of stuffing edge puffs after the backing has been stitched on - yes it would work. However, by leaving the edge puffs un stuffed until after the backing has been stitched on to me presents extra work and time because the quilt {being full size and all} is required to be turned inside out again and edge puffs stuffed and stitched to prevent the fibre from escaping, then repeating the process of turning the quilt right side out again! I guess it comes down to swings and roundabouts! To make stitching the backing on easier it maybe worth your while to reduce the amount of stuffing used on the edge puffs by a fraction, eg as an example if you've put 10 grams in each puff only put in half (5grams of even 7 grams) [sorry don't know equivalent weight in ounces] as these puffs are on the edge I don't think the lesser fiber fill will effect the overall warmth of the quilt. Thank you for your idea. Hugs from South 🇦🇺

      @@danigooler4564 I’ve made many biscuit quilt pillows and I’ve found that cutting a slit in the backing, then stuffing it after all the blocks are sewn together is much easier !

    Beautiful.. I wonder if it would work to add rice or polypropylene beads in each puff and make it kinda like a weighted blanket.

    • @SewYeah
      @SewYeah  4 года назад +3

      That's an interesting idea. Maybe just put the filling in a few puffs around the edges so it won't get too heavy. Also, it would probably be best to use the beads, so it would be washable. We would love to know how it turns out! Take care, Brody and Teancum
