I put thick flannel on mine. My friend put a grided material on hers. I even made a travel one. Flannel lined table cloths work great for bigger travel projects. Just roll it up. Love all of mine.
I've used my design boards for 7 years. I originally had them standing in my dining room but now they are mounted on the wall in my sewroom. I use them to display blocks and spray baste my quilts.
Well this was posted 2 years ago, so I’m late to the party. However, it’s good timing for me. Thanks for good information and instructions. And thanks for more tips that came from the comments of your previous viewers.
My foam core board sits on a piece of aluminum bracketing. It keeps the board from kicking out. Mine leans against the wall and is 2 panels. It slides easy-ish. Double pronged jewelers pins are great for securing heavier items. I also baste my quilt on the design board
Hello and that is such a great idea! I had a busy but productive day in my sewing room and just got a chance to sit and watch your video. I hope you have a lovely week ahead. Thank you for sharing your video and your expertise.
Thanks T for that idea. I used to have a flannel backed tablecloth attached to an upstairs wall. No one could see it and it worked great. I love your fabric and I watch Tuesday and Saturday nights.
Fantastic! We are so glad the video made this great project seem doable! We hope you are able to make one and it is super helpful. Thanks so much for watching!❤🎈🙌
Thanks for watching! We are so glad you like the design board. We love that quilt too! It is called Copihue Quilt Pattern by Cotton and Joy. We are sold out at the moment but hopefully will be getting it again soon. See you next time! ❤🤗
😍😍So sorry I am just catching this .I am trying to catch up on the comments. Hope to do better in the future. Thanks for watching our lives. We appreciate it !!!!!!
I went out and bought the same foam board from Lowe's 😎. I used flannel and T pins instead of staples. I didn't spray it but, I may go back and do that. I also just lean it against the wall this way I can move it from room to room. Thanks Teancum!

Great tutorial Teancum, now if I can get myself a table that long to make this, I'd be in business. Maybe your next tutorial could be how to make a quick set up table to cut yardage on. Just kidding.....maybe.
You don't need a table, Just use 2 sawhorses. Then, if you don't mount it to the wall, you can use the back as a table anytime you want to. I live in rv and store it under my mattress.
And do it outside. I can’t believe he wasn’t using a mask when he was spraying all of that basting spray on. I was gonna suggest leaning it up against a wall outside of your house. And maybe using those clamps that you can buy from the dollar store I forget with a really called just to hold the batting in place you would probably need an extra pair of hands but it could be done
Great ideas in the comments on how to make and store the board without a huge table. A quick set up table to cut yardage... Sounds amazing!😂😂 Thanks so much for watching! We hope to see you again soon ❤😊
I love this, now I just need to figure out how to get that board home from the store - it's way too big even for my for my SUV! I wonder if I got it cut in two, how it would work if I taped it back together at home. Would love some thoughts on this.

Over time and with use, the batting will likely deform a little bit. But it should take a long time for the material to deform, so I would not worry about it! Plus, I believe you can pretty easily remove it and replace it!
Excellent, thank you! Can I use flannel instead of batting? If I want to make it wider how do you hold the 2 pieces of foam board together in the center?
We have had people use flannel and say it works great. You can check at your local hardware store to find a board big enough for what you would like to make. Thanks for watching!
I made two like this. I did not staple the material to the back, I used heavy duty tape. And I used Command Velcro strips to attach to the wall. Because I used tape on the back, the Command strips could attach to the tape on the boards.

watched you make washable ironing board & now your design board...great job/video on both. but at this time, I have no idea💡 where I would store them😒🙄
Like our DIY content? You should make your own ironing board:

You could also use flannel and tape it to the back using duck tape, as staples will pull out of that board easily
Great ideas! We love hearing everyone's tips to make it work best for them 🙌🤗🙏 Thanks for watching!
Love that. I made a portable design board with the tri-fold school project board.
Such a great idea! Thanks for sharing. We'll have to try that 🙌🤗 Thanks for watching!

The difficult part is getting the foam board home without it blowing out of the pickup truck (4 x 8 size sheet). LOL.
😂😂😂
Yes, my husband and I made one. Instead of batting I used fleece, and it has worked fine.

What depth did you use? It comes in 1, 1.5 and 2 inches. If I get it to thin will it bend when just leaning?
We bought 3/4 and it has a bow/bend to it. I would recommend 2 inch thickness.
It is really your choice
Hello love it. However what if you need it wider would you put two together side by side but not connect them?
That's a thought!!!
Loved it
So glad to hear you love the design board. We hope you can make one soon! Thanks for watching🤗🙏🙌
Exactly what I wanted to do! Will the batting sag eventually? Is there a way to stabilize the batting for long term?
Over time and with use, the batting will likely deform a little bit. But it should take a long time for the material to deform, so I would not worry about it! Plus, I believe you can pretty easily remove it and replace it!

What is the best batting to use?
It's really a preference. So many tell you this or that. It's really your own preference.
Do uou know of a way to make a portable wall to take to class?
That is a good question. Maybe something to think about!!!!
is there a link to the batting you used? I've never bought this before and unsure of the products online, it looks different than yours. Thank you!!
I am behind seeing these comments. Sure hope you have that question answered by now.
