Third Beach to Oil City - South Olympic Coast, Washington State

The Olympics South Coast Route is a backpacking classic. The 17 mile route snakes along the coastline between Third Beach and Oil City and is typically done as a through hike. The coast is rugged, traveling across both sandy beaches and stretches of slippery boulders. Overland trails offer bypasses around impassable sections, but these trails are also challenging, featuring steep worn-down ladders and ropes. The route also requires careful planning around the tides, most importantly to time the 2ft tide restriction at Diamond Rocks just north of the Hoh River.
