I’ve recently left the Android ecosystem for iOS when it comes to filmmaking, but I’m glad to see this app is still going strong and evolving.
A friend of mine just got an iPhone 15 Pro and it doesn't even have separate controls for ISO and exposure. If you change either, the other changes automatically. I don't know what they were thinking.

@@MobileFilmmaking I can't remember now. It's definitely a paid one. He installed it because we couldn't find separate ISO and exposure controls in the default camera app.
I think it might be disabled on hardware level, but I can't say for sure as this wasn't my phone and we only spent about an hour trying to get this to work.

The camera control interface has more features than my sony mirrroless camera. Amazing.
Your app is ahead of time. Phone manufactures will have to catch up with the app, because tiny sensors will have compromises. Once much bigger sensors are included, such as M43, APS-C, and catch your breath....full sensor size, then we can all ditch most mirrorless cameras (for video). In 10-15 years time, 'proper' cameras will be a thing of the past.

MotionCam is by far the biggest revolution in video. S22 Ultra 24mm MCRAW foogage is very comparable to Sigma 18-35mm 1.8mm ProRes footage on a BMPCC 6K. In fact, in some situations, MCRAW is almost indistinguishable from BRAW, especially when LUTs are applied. Just like Blackmagic revolutionized the color grading industry with their one-time purchase, lifetime updates, Davinci Resolve Studio, I can only imagine MotionCam Pro's features in the next ten years as phones get better.
We would love to see a comparation with your gear, then again is not about VS is more about complementing the shots with various devices! :D

@@daydreamingcamera is good, but in theory you should be able to match them 100%, also i saw MC had more contrast which also affects the visual perception of clarity! regarding all the other issues is phone gets hot... try maybe a power save cpu, or add something that can cool down the phone, with newer devices this aspects improved a lot. It would be very helpful if you could publish a compatibility list of smartphones that are compatible with your app (regarding the lenses one can use, etc.)
For this we have Discord, we try to avoid lists, because usually functionality can be enabled or disabled from a simple OEM update.

Can you recommend a quick start tutorial that tells you how to get the right settings for basic filming? I have some experience filming on a DSLR but when I used the settings I thought would work on Motioncam Pro all the footage was super blurry and jittery, and the files were so huge that I couldn't export some of them off my phone cos it would just crash (a 15 minute one was 8G!). The tutorials I can find use the old layout which isn't useful.
I'm sure all these features are very useful, but for a newbie like me who just wants to be able to film stuff on my phone without it constantly changing the white balance and colour temp it's just too much info without the stuff we actually need

Hello! I have Canon r6 m2 camera, and samsung s21 ultra and s23 ultra. For some of my shoting I would love to use all of these devices, and to be able to color grade the files in davinci resolve after. But i just can't undestand what settings to use in Direct LOG mode to be able to grade shots after (RAW takes too much space, cause i record theater shows 2-3 hours long). Maybe you can help me to understand which settings are closest to Canon c-log3 and which pattern should I use for Davinci color space transfor tool to be able to see colors the way i see it in preview mode in MotionCam during recording, please?

@@MotionCam now I have the beta 3 version, with my Honor Magic5 PRO seams to work great, in the next days I will make extensive test specially about log (magic5 pro has with native app the log only on principal camera and I must choose log or 10 bit) but seams now with MotionCam I can use log and 10 bit over all the 4 camera (3 rear, 1 face)
Hi Sebastian! I'm very new to this stuff so please bear with me. Is the Direct LOG function in the app a real LOG that bypasses the sharpening and colour science added by the phone, or is it just like a neutral colour profile?
DirectLog comes from RAW stream, so yes!

Why does my exynos s10 plus record 20 fps video? Will this be resolved with the update?
Unfortunately not! Samsung Exynos series can be fixed only by Samsung, as they fixed already for S21/22 + other phones
May I ask you very nicely to fix the shutter locking, with automatic ISO? It is a very important function. Well thank you :)
This is not something that is broken to start with, android is by default like this! In the future we want to make our own custom engine for automatic settings.
Does this application have a zoom feature like the built-in camera?

Hello awesome video and app! would this app work on Pixel 8 pro in HEVC 10 bits? Will it work on all cameras from the phone and will the footage still be stabilized directly from the Pixel own stabilization if I don't want to use gyroflow in post? Thanks
Hello, Pixel 8 Pro it can encode in HEVC 10 Bit! and yes will work all cameras, stabilization is OIS only. (you can test all this features in Demo version)
Hello! Great product! I have two questions about the video codec and the transfer fuction. How can i achieve the highest quality on my pixel 8 pro. do i choose the prores 4:2:2 10 bit which is software-boosted or the HEVC 4:2:0 for hardware boosting.. where is the difference? can the pixel 8 pro shoot in prores? AND: for the transfer function do i choose BT REC 709 when i edit it on my macbook pro in rec709 mode to get the most accurate colour or do i have more options with youor mcraw log function??

All Codecs that we provide gives you hi quality rendering, challenge is not always is possible to encode due to many external factors, bitrate, noise, etc.
So a good start is HEVC 10Bit with mcrawlog transfer curve, we have Technical Conversion curves available for Download on Discord, as soon will be final version will be also available to download from our website.
Mcrawlog is optimized to encode all the data available from raw stream, cineon is next, and BT.709 might need tonemaping in certain scenarios.

Very impressive. I just got into editing RAW images taken with my S21 Ultra and was wondering if I could shoot video in a similar way. The images are SIGNIFICANTLY better than JPGs with awful automated postprocessing (noise removal ruins everything).
Can you say a few words about the Adobe Premiere plugin? I imported an .mcraw file in Premiere CC 2018 (v12.0) and it crashed when I dropped the file in the timeline. I installed MotionCam Tools 1.0, but it's just the standalone program...
for plugin to work you need at least 2022 CC

I record video fps always decreasing every time. I'm setting fps 24 when I record is 8 fps.

if u capture in raw binned, any device that has the raw stream open can do it!
after the update i can no longer choose where to store the videos before rendering.
before the update, i was recording to an external usb and using my pc to render the videos.

I've tried the app, but I'm getting ca. 18fps in HEVC/Pro Res mode. Chanding resolution and turning pixel binning doesn't seem to help improve performance. How can I make the app usable? I'm using s20 Plus.
Hello, for DirectLog mode you need a newer phone, still for RAW capture works fine(and quickly render into videos after) is ok

Can app record consistent frame rate? For example strictly 30.00 fps, not jumping to 30.xx or 29.xx?
App is not in control of the stream, each phone has it`s own internal clock!

Good day. Is it normal that only the prores proxy works for me stably? All the higher resolution settings drop my images and record 15fps. I have a Galaxy S24 Ultra (Snapdragon 8 gen.3)
Edit: Sorry, I'm correcting myself.. Even ProRes LT works stable 29.xx fps.. Does anyone have all ProRes levels working at 30Fps? In 60Fps, even ProRes Proxy does not work properly for me. Very many dropped pictures.
60fps in raw video, works for me for about 30 seconds. Then the images start to fall. How is it possible that many people write that they can get 60fps stably?

Hello! Yes is normal! ProRes is not a hardware codec, so being a software procedure needs much more power!

Btw: It drops both HEVC and MP4 at 60fps. The best 60fps is in FULL RAW. But after 30 seconds the frames also start dropping

As of this month, there is available to test MotionCam Demo version which is a copy of MotionCam Pro version with some limitations! So any user can test and report bugs etc :)

Hello, if your mobile supports only 15 FPS means, you have a MediaTeck Processor which for older smartphone generations had this limitations. Starting their latest models that issue is fixed. So unfortunately that issue cannot be fixed from our side. Thanks
