Just FYI, we were not surprised at the low price on the quote, as we have often been given discounts (sometimes completely free berthing) because of our social media presence and ability to advertise. So we took the quote as is. BTW Keith went to the marina office every day and was never allowed to speak to the manager about the situation. He never showed his face nor addressed our concerns. If you have a minute, shoot an email to TomL@LimassolMarina dot com and copy to Berths@LimassolMarina dot com. and remind them about the importance of integrity in business (and the power of social media). Maybe we can use our platform to keep our cruising community safe and happy!
It's really unfortunate for such an awarded marina to follow such dirty practices, truly unprofessional. We also had similar things happen to us in Azores when we crossed the Atlantic.
I really admire how Keith handles all the adversity. What a great Dad and Mom you both are. I’ve been following for about 3 years now. Great job you guys. Teaching your kids very valuable things!
It’s I press Ive how calm Keith stays. I feel like so many dads would’ve started yelling, getting a bit mad/stressed, and would’ve let that snap out at their kids if they weren’t doing something right/fast enough/etc. he definitely stays calm which sets a wonderful example for everyone, and it’s a much better environment to learn in. The kids are able to retain information rather than just being so frazzled and stressed that it all becomes a blur.
I’ve been watching Zatara for more than a year now and in the early days I found Keith to be a bit forthright and tough but I’ve learned to respect the way he goes about things, his knowledge and abilities. Following the furled failure and the Cyprus rip off I now admire his calmness in the face of adversity. If all that happened to me I’d be spitting chips and suffering a $20k depression. Well done Keith P.S. I’m not sure the off camera performance would have matched the on camera
Same here. Overall he's definitely "very American" (speaking as a European) - but I have to say he is a real problem solver, and I'm not surprised he was successful in the business world, too. I was sceptical at first, but I now have to say that I find Keith quite inspiring. Not just literally: a real captain. (I also guess it'll be hard as another male to be around Keith if you are not his son: I guess he might want to be the #1 alpha around)
cyprus is very corrupted , know this as i live here, cyrpiots went from donkeys to Mercedes in 3 generations, very stupid people that cant see the the bigger picture
I am glad you showed this video. Because it shows very clearly that boat travel-like all kinds of travel-has it’s good points and bad points. Planning without planning for problems, is planning for nothing but trouble. However, even with the best planning, unforeseen circumstances are going to happen. The thing I can’t get over is how calm dad is all the time. If this had been my brother-in-law he would’ve been screaming and ranting and raving and blaming me for the problem. I am glad to see dad keeping his cool through it all. Btw Mt. Olympus is the highest point in Greece, and, in ancient times, it was where all the Greek gods lived from Zeus and Hera to Dionysius.
In regard to the sail fail, you guys are a heck of a team. Crazy things happening is where you shine!!! Hate the bad stuff but your ability to adapt is uncanny! Loved this episode!
Ha!!! I love how the boys' channels are skating and swimming, and the adult channel is all the **reality** of adulting. I applaud your journey and raising your kids on the water like that. Your children have a perspective that literally a handful of kids do.
I see by your Predict Wind you are now circumnavigators, congratulations. Its been an exciting journey to follow, I can only imagine how excited you all are. Very fine work chronicling your voyages. Keith I'll say it again, I admire your cool under pressure.
So sorry to see your sailing mechanism go down on you! And glad you have such a superb experienced crew to handle all of this bother. Praying for safe travels to another place, hopefully with contacts there who value integrity and your business. Thanks for an exciting time.
Tip for next time. When folding a sail make sure the luff stay’s together and the leech makes big turns. This makes it a lot easier to hoist, because the luff stays under the feeder and reduces the risk of the sail pulling out of the profile.
Though I am very sorry to see all the struggles in this particular episode, it was inspiring to see your family work together as such a great team to overcome the challenges. What an inspiration.
Zatara family- sorry for your multiple problems. But I would like to thank Renee for putting the clip of the navigation screen on the video. I thinks it's very cool. Happy Sailing...David form Hog Mountain
Love the content! Great family teamwork on the boat! All the way over here in Colorado watching you guys adventure as a family. You’re a mainstay on my YT feed. Be safe and thanks for sharing your adventures!
Wow! There's so much going on in this video. I loved it and the team work! Thank goodness for young men I'd say. I moved about a month ago now and the backup crew of 30 year olds was a blessing. My brothers and I were strugglin I tell ya.
I love watching your adventures! I am not a sailor but I check in with y'all every week. It's like family time. Thank you for producing wonderful content. Stay safe out there!
Real sorry to hear your Cyprus issues. If I’d known I’d have said to you to go 5 miles east to another marina where you never get this issue (they have port police there too). Limassol is renowned in the yachting community for being a little difficult.
When dealing with a jib failure at high winds or seas, I had a really good experience using the main as a wind shadow. We were out 3-4 days from land in the Atlantic and our jib halyard failed and it pretty much crashed down on its own. You don't have to fight it much, and for the love of God don't fight it too much, those are crane level forces and it will rip you apart. However, if you must deal with it, use the main to shadow it from the wind. Turn down wind, start your motor, let the main all the way out and tie a preventer to it. Now with the motor running, jibe while keeping the sail locked on the same side. You'll want someone at the wheel at all times to keep this safe in rought seas and heavy winds. They basically want to keep the Windex at 170-175 degrees. With the motor running and you going directly down wind, and the main shadowing the job, really easens the pain of dealing with the jib. I was able to hoist the jib with the Spinnaker halyard in this state in 25-30knot winds with high seas.
Inspirations abound watching your family create an invaluable legacy not only for your own family but also to the many other families who have also chosen this path because of your inspirational story telling and wholesome family adventures. Well done SV Zatara for another adventure.
Wow, great video. I love how the captain is so calm, cool and collected with the furling and fraudulent actions of marina. Very lucky to have help. Life is about choices and choices has consequences in our case we love boats. they are not cheap and especially if they are older or not well maintained. Que será será!😊
Nice to see Red Sea once again through your videos. I've been to some of the adjacent areas in 2005 - Sharm el Sheikh, Zafarana and Ain Sukna (both north of Hurgada where you stayed and on Gulf of Suez coast), Port Said and Ras-El Bar, Damietta (north-west of Port Said) - where Nile meets the Med. Actually travelled all over Egypt and a bit in Jordan for three months. Spent a lot of time dozing in "Feluccas" (local dinghy with sail) in the southern part of the Nile in Egypt, near Luxor and Lake Nasser and a few other inland lakes. After nearly 18 years, all I remember is a combination of blue water and orange sand dunes / hills. A fading memory rekindled by your videos. Really enjoyed your Red Sea / Gulf of Aqaba / Suez videos. Thank you.
Thanks Zatara for this one. It was really scary to watch all of you struggling with your sail manually. Grateful everything is well and all is safe. I feel Keith’s frustration with the fees and getting parts for Zatara. 💕🙏🏻
Helooo from California , we enjoy all your episodes ,very professional operator ,Renee is amazing she never lose control to make a beautiful exiting video , the boys are funny and have great sense of humor, enjoy sailing and be safe , love ❤️ you all amazing family ,
I’m so sorry you were ripped off at that marina. Shame on them! But I have to say, you must be so proud of your kids! So hard working and go with the flow. Amazing family!
The most interesting videos I have come across on RUclips this week, now subscribed and staying with Zatara. Thank you all for your continuous updates on how things are going. I hope Turkey is good accept for the earthquake damage there and in Syria. Stay safe and I pray you get your sail fixed.
Great video and getting that sail down so efficiently. Hope it’s repairable. Damn that marina for not honoring their earlier quote! Your family continues to inspire us all and I see beautiful waters ahead. 🤙
I really love your catamaran it’s just like a family home inside with all the usual comfort. Then a holiday villa on the outside as well as a beautiful yacht.
Well done Keith !! Good on you to call them out and use social media to your advantage. Word will spread and their actions will come back to bite them !!! Integrity, you can’t wing it.either you have it or you don’t!! They don’t!! Fair winds ⛵️
Love your adventure, wanted to let you know that I bought some merch and I was really impressed with the presentation of the packaging, very nice touch.
Thanks for another episode. I have binged watched my way through your channel and Jack and Fins channel. Remarkable adventures, remarkable family. Stay safe my friends.
Making a mistake is always an opportunity for redemption. That marina has abysmal business ethics. I'm sorry that you were treated so poorly. On the plus side... wonderful family teamwork! I hope the furler is repairable. 🤞 ❤
Good episode. Each country is so interesting. Great attitude with the "misquote" ya'll! I love that Keith is so brave balancing on the bow, everyone pitches in to help! Great teamwork! Crazy about the snow there. I wouldn't have expected that! Thank you for sharing! Marilyn C
What an amazing video, great work to the editing crew, and some absolutely wonderfully team work on the headsail, you have the best crew in the world, excellent teamwork there. I do so enjoy watching this channel, I have watched from day one when you left Dalles, really wish I could actually be out there doing the same thing, but will never be able to because of health reasons so y'all are the next best thing, sending love and hugs to all of the Z Crew.
Wow, sad to hear all the dramas, and what a kick in the guts with the marina... Great Footage guys, and wishing you all the best with sorting out your Furling.
I have only been watching your videos for the past month, I really enjoy how real they are (you don’t cover them up and you mix the good with the bad). I have been telling my son who is a video editor for a Minecraft channel about your videos. Thank You!
I am new to your channel and love your families journey. I have been binge watching pretty much all your videos and one particular video had me in tears. Three years ago Jack said goodbye to Lilly. I am a mother and to watch their son cry made me cry. IWhat ever happened to her?
No one cares about your opinion. If you don't like it leave from our country. We had enough of you people coming to our country and complaining all the time.
But really, what would an email from a non customer do? The family has every right to be upset, and voice their opinions on the situation, but you werent there so how did it affect you.
I would never have guessed you would end up in snow in Cyprus. The things you find out. The dad is super cool under pressure and well acquainted with the fact that yes things happen in threes, let us know if that’s what happened next time.
You’re lucky it wasn’t windier when your furler jammed. We had that happen when trying to reef when the wind piped up to 35 Knot gusts and the sail was stuck exactly where the spreaders were and ripped the sail😢 Keep up the great work
Hi guys, as a resident of Cyprus and a boat owner 15m M/y, you could have moored outside Larnaca Marina and completed your formalities as it is also a Port of Entry. In fact Larnaca wouldn’t have space in the Marina and would have wanted you to moor outside and come in via your tender. There are NO fees to enter or exit Cyprus. The fees you were charged are exclusive to Limassol as it’s privately owned. It is also the most expensive Marina in Cyprus.
Zatara’s best recipe is Renee, filming, editing, and narration, it’s the top of the food chain. (#2) Kate, Finn , and Jack are an outstanding crew when it matters the most.
Totally understand the frustrations in the moment, but boy what an amazing experience on the daily with your family. As the song suggests “let it float away.”
Thank you for this video Renee, The Zatara team pulled together ( Keith, Zak, Finn and Kate ). An American song writer once wrote "Some days are diamonds and some days are stone" (John Denver), although he wasn't thinking about Limassol Cypress at the time. It must be shocking to anticipate warmth and welcome and be met with a bucket of ice water dumped on you and your Family and people reaching for your collective wallet. There's a song about that too, (Just walk away Renee " Left Banke" ). Cheers from Canada.
That type of swindling can ruin a trip. Nice to document so others won’t get burned. Handled like a chief Keith, if it were my trip and family they (family) would be in for dad grumpiness for weeks. Carry on. Enjoying your family’s adventures. Living the dream!
It sucks when you are ripped off. But remember: The person that rips you off will forget you ever existed the next day and go on with their life. If you stay annoyed about it, you lose even more. Be pissed, throw some curse words. And then forget about it the next day and move on. Unless you find a time machine, staying annoyed about it only hurts yourself.
Wow ! I want to believe that I could have a sail boat but after seeing the troubles yall are having to deal with and fix I am sad to say that I can not do it!!! I'm gonna cry niw!
I will soon be embarking on my own experience as a cruiser and your channel has both provided insight and motivation for my decision. While there are many reasons I’m choosing this life, one of the more important ones to me is how society has negatively changed. People now have a habit of over promising and under delivering, like your experience with the marina fees, and then basically telling others “not my problem”. Integrity is super important to me and all I really want is for people to do what they say they will. Simply honor your word and we are good. Of course things happen and allowances are made for that, but with proper communication a new agreement can be reached. Too often people are looking to take advantage of others and it leaves everyone worse off including the perpetrator. It’s really sad that so much of society has become like this, but greed is a horrible vice and materialism is a hell of a drug. Thanks for another good video and hopefully you can find parts rather than having to replace the entire mechanism.
Sorry that you had such a bad experience with checking in. I mean if they made a mistake, they need to fix it, not you guys. Europe has beautiful places and i hope you have a great travel from now on :)
I got hooked on your video I watched a few of your new ones then decided to go to #1 now on #38 it’s a great way to kill the day in the winter in Alberta my son had a sail boat in Victoria and I just could imagine going across the Pacific when we sailed it would take hours to get any place.really enjoy how your videos are edited.
I think what y'all are doing with your kids is a really really great thing love your videos please don't stop I'm in Florida and I wish I could do what yall are doing y'all r truly blessed the USA is not a good place anymore too rase a family please stay safe God bless and have a awesome journey see you on your next trip

Love the team work they got great kids so much love cool to see and moms very cool mom great videos
ive been missing ur video glad i have the weekend to catchup
I've windsurfed in limasol next to the marina, always get super windy in the afternoon there in the summer.
That type of swindling can ruin a trip. Nice to document so others won’t get burned. Handled like a chief Keith, if it were my trip and family they (family) would be in for dad grumpiness for weeks. Carry on. Enjoying your family’s adventures. Living the dream!
I hate being ripped off and I never forget. Sorry you had such a bad start in the Med. I hope it's a great experience from here on.
Hope you all enjoy cyprus 🇨🇾I live in Paphos 🌞😎🥂🍻🍻
Sorry that you had such a bad experience with checking in. I mean if they made a mistake, they need to fix it, not you guys. Europe has beautiful places and i hope you have a great travel from now on :)
