You two are so brave. I certainly hope they are selling you clean good diesel. I keep having to remind myself that you are surely safe in some port or on land in late November when you are posting this. God bless you.
Wow, taking your family of 5 through the NW Passage, those kids will have an amazing memory for the rest of their lives! Quite a bit different than a trip to Disneyworld.
No olipas hankaliuksia tällä osuudella ! Nekin hoiditte, tiedolla ja taidolla ! Olipas kiva nähdä nyt sitä naapuripaatin porukkaa 👍 😊 , lääkärisihmisiä 👍 Oho, möllien villa onkin tosi arvokasta 😏 ! Upeat lasipallot, matkamuistoiksi🤩
Yet another very interesting video, without doubt you need to have all systems functioning impeccably before you go further into the north west passage.
Regarding the diesel fuel issue, you did great diagnosis. You n Sophie great teamwork emptying the tank. Great resilience nd a positive approach. Great stuff chaps..🫡 👍🏼🇬🇧
These glas floaters were not only made in Japan. When I was a kid I collected them at the beaches of the North Sea. They where usually green as they where made from recycled glass (even back then in the 1970's)
In the mid 1970s I was stationed on the island of Iwo Jima (LORAN). The glass balls constantly came ashore. Many were over well over 12 inches in diameter. I never bothered to take any home.
There are a lot of residents in Alaska who go out combing the beaches for glass balls. My son has one which my grandfather collected in the 40’s while fishing Alaska. It has been preserved with basketry weaved around it in a local style. Amazing what they do with those.
I made a "fuel polishing " system for my Valiant 40: twin Racor filters with Y valve, and a priming pump. I regularly run the pump in circulating mode, then change out the filter. Very helpful! Good luck.
As always well done on the update of your passage and the deduction to find the cause of the fuel contamination. Goes to show that some of the most basic things can still be missed by exploration boat builders and it is always the crew that needs to be agile and responsible to find the solutions. I recall your translation gig was in jeapordy so I sincerenly hope the two of you are able to find alternative ways to keep on living your passion and don't get stuck on the hard. Be safe out there.
I have some of these type of glass floats that my parents found on the beaches of the Outer Hebridies, Scotland during the 1950's They still have the rope netting round them that was used to fix them to the creel/fishing line.
Rerouting the vent hose will help but can I suggest a catch can spliced into the vent hose with a one way float/flapper valve between it and the sea water
Had the same Longdrink coloured diesel in my boat, the water just did not separate. It was because of some bacteria in the fueltank. Cleaned it out properly , after that no more "growth" / longdrink fuel. Do the same thing, clean the tank and add "Grotamar82" a very good additive suitable for handling and precenting this kind of bacteria. The bacteria itself creates and binds water in the fuel - thus this unseparable Lonkero fuel.
Such interesting content and information. Thanks for the drone shots of the beaches too, not many human eyes look down on that coast what a privilege. 😊🇬🇧🫡🤲🙏
We had a piece of gelled fuel in the fuel line that was our problem. We cleaned our tank etc. and ultimately to no avail...then we changed the fuel line...problem fixed and eventually got the gel out
Some of the Glass Floats were made in the UK...and Some have Makers Marks on...Look Up Obsessed Beachcomber from Australia.... Another Cracking Video!.....
You have to be smart to get there, smarter to make the passage safe, possessing an explorer's heart. You both have all that and are tough cookies ha-ha, be safe and be well. Thanks for the views I'll never see.
Verty nice report of this remote part of the world we normal salors will never get to see! And perfect (hopefully) repair of the fuel issue. Fair Winds and greetings from Germaica...
That's because I wasn't open ocean it was inside. There are a lot of passages and bay's. That whole Coast is just a network of islands inlets peninsulas and bay's.
What a great collection of floats! While in Port Haiden, my son found about a dozen of those glass floats, about medium size, and brought them home. They are a nice decoration in a basket. 😀
scary how you describe the sea eating away the land. It's happening here in Massachusetts as well both Martha's vineyard and Nantucket are seeing houses go into the ocean like never before...It's happening !.
👍🏼👏🏻❤ FYI & others if, by chance, you find a small plastic float with stripes (black)... and open it, you will be pleasantly surprised with a glass floater within. BTW, wearing sunglasses is OK !
There is a channel called Outdoor Boys and they are based in Alaska. One video has Luke, the host, basically carrying two armfuls of those floats and finding them just about in every crevice on that beach!
We have a number of those glass 'bulbs'. Frequently used in Norway until 60 years ago. In basic, you have the same diesel system as sv Hulda. But: sv Hulda has the vent inside the hull. That is conflicting the standard, but it is in according with my philosophy :-) I will never ever have water into the main tank via the vent.
However the water became emulsified in the diesel, the only way to remove the water is to add a demulsifier that causes the water to separate, so that the oil/water separators will work effectively. Obviously in your case, all the water was emulsified, which didn’t interfere with combustion in the engine. The standard filters are for particles and won’t remove water, whether the water is emulsified or not. As for how the water got into the diesel, could have been from the delivery tank or from condensation in your sailboat’s tank that mixed in from wave action.
Another interesting video, thanks. Obviously know that you managed to reach Greenland, but nonetheless am wondering if there was a slight vacuum in the tank sucking in the seawater.
Stunning! If I understood you correctly, in case of a repeat of the water-in-diesel problem - you could pre-heat the diesel to drive out the moisture? Assuming it ever actually caused a problem.
Greetings from Vancouver Canada ..... really enjoying these videos ..... the natural earth part and the technical/mechanical trials parts. I thought you were sailing with 2 friends on Lumi ...Juuso and Kuuti .... or do I need to be patient????
My breather tube goes from below deck up into the tube of the stern pulpit. There is a small hole at the lower end of this pulpit tube where it comes down to the deck again. This is as save as it gets and I never had any problems with this arrangement, but then I never sailed the Bering Sea.
Why don't you use a dieseltank breather with a valve in it. Lets air out. Blocks incoming water. The built-in filter prevents dust to come in your system. Love from the Netherlands.
Looks like you picked up adulterated fuel somewhere. Diesel in the boonies is always suspect and has everything from old beer to beer after human consumption in it. It's usually a problem when the temperature gets colder and most old school engines will run OK on the mystery fluid.
Problem are the part of Bio Diesel in the mineral Diesel, and they are hydrophile and become moldy, clean the tank and put aditive in the Diesel for avoid mold in the Diesel.
If you close the valve= no more breathing for the tank while motoring…..= stopping motor or vacuuming tank with possible collapse ( if it is thin enough) You need a two way valve with breathing in the locker in bad weather.( dont forget to reopen for tanking or the dieselspill if the tank is full will be in the locker too) No thanks
May be I'm wrong, but looks like you have fuel pump before filters. As I know fuel pump should be after filters. Otherwise is cause issues with air in fuel in cold conditions.
I don´t think so. Who is building such a crap? With my Volvo engine the fuel pump is between first filter with water seperator and main filter dierectly to the injection pump.
Is it just me or what? I have only a choice of audio in French Hindi or Japanese . No English. I do not have this problem with other channels and in the past I got English on this channel as well.

The "boat" with the lawn chair made me laugh out loud. Thank you for sharing your adventures with us! Now to wait for the next video.

Wow, great video again. The green of the gras and the blue from the water... magnificant.
Safe travels with good fuel.
Regarding the diesel fuel issue, you did great diagnosis. You n Sophie great teamwork emptying the tank. Great resilience nd a positive approach. Great stuff chaps..🫡 👍🏼🇬🇧
I hit the like button before I watch the video because I know your content is excellent! Greetings from Switzerland....
cheers Esther, thanks a lot!
And yet another greeting from Switzerland! Thanks for the great and very interesting content. Sail safe

That must have been an interesting tour. Did explore the island much?

I'm REALLY surprised you didn't try to ski on that patch of snow!?!?
😃
Videography nice and sharp
Thanks for your dedication
thanks for watching! :)

Sohvi is so cool
That’s the most calm I’ve ever seen the Bering Sea.
That's because I wasn't open ocean it was inside. There are a lot of passages and bay's. That whole Coast is just a network of islands inlets peninsulas and bay's.

Great shot of fuel tanks , clean fuel is a biggy 😉 fair winds !
Really very interesting.Been following your channel for a long time and it is one of the best on youtube. Best wishes to you both from New Zealand.
Awesome Ty Ty
👍🏼👏🏻❤ FYI & others if, by chance, you find a small plastic float with stripes (black)... and open it, you will be pleasantly surprised with a glass floater within.

interesting! we find plenty of stuff on the beaches, will try opening one!

would love to see harbor masters' reaction when he finds out ur destination😂😂
You can tell by the imprint in the ground that finding the glass balls wasn't staged. Great finds
Oh Such a Gorgeous shot @ 2:38 Juho!.
We have those glass balls at home in Finland too...used not so long ago. Usually they are wrapped in rope net
We have a number of those glass 'bulbs'. Frequently used in Norway until 60 years ago.

1:25 single handedly feeding every mosquito on the island.
trying!
I started swatting the air when I saw that. I HATE mosquitoes.
you can put a kid snorkel on the end with a floating bal at the end that wil shut off wen water lifts the ball
How come Sohvi is doing all the work lol, don’t forget diesel is also the lubricant for your diesel injection water is bad !
Loving the adventure
ironic that the harbor is full of dredgers and there is not enough depths only a narrow channel, lol

Wow, the blood suckers were out in force. Run.
There was a network tv show in the US that was about Bering Sea gold dreggers.
easily some of the best television ever made
A lot of glass balls were washed out of people's yards in the big Japanese tsunami.
Why don't you use a dieseltank breather with a valve in it. Lets air out. Blocks incoming water. The built-in filter prevents dust to come in your system.
Love from the Netherlands.
good idea! Where to get?
I bet the glass balls would sell £100 per item to your loyal viewers 😁. Great content as always ❤
I had a Japanese fishing float big has a basketball
An Epic Passage, hope you meet some friendly Aliens for RUclips...
The Japanese fished the Bearing Sea and the Bristol Bay pretty heavily in the 60's & 70's so those balls may have not traveled as far as you think...
Looks like you picked up adulterated fuel somewhere. Diesel in the boonies is always suspect and has everything from old beer to beer after human consumption in it. It's usually a problem when the temperature gets colder and most old school engines will run OK on the mystery fluid.
Holy moly mosquitos. They look like the small ones rather than the large ones in Alaska
They drive the Barren Ground Caribou absolutely mad.
I did not know that you speak such good French?? 😂
Problem are the part of Bio Diesel in the mineral Diesel, and they are hydrophile and become moldy, clean the tank and put aditive in the Diesel for avoid mold in the Diesel.
provided they have this Biodiesel Sh...t in Alaska. It´s an european specielity here.
If you close the valve= no more breathing for the tank while motoring…..= stopping motor or vacuuming tank with possible collapse ( if it is thin enough)
You need a two way valve with breathing in the locker in bad weather.( dont forget to reopen for tanking or the dieselspill if the tank is full will be in the locker too)
No thanks

Nice one.. Btw..glass is a liquid...
❤
Why would the marine service gives you bad diesel? In light of your perilous journey.Word of the day is nephelococcygia.
😊
might be sea water intrusion from the breather (watch the whole video ;)
Do you think it might be ethanol in the diesel?
It really sucks seeing the permafrost disappearing. But it's nothing new, it's been happening in cycles for billions of years. 🤷
Absolutely love your channel thanks for your hard work. Be smart stay safe. 👍
Is it just me or what? I have only a choice of audio in French Hindi or Japanese . No English.
I do not have this problem with other channels and in the past I got English on this channel as well.
Funny I reloaded the video a bit later and all is fine now
Hey, leave some for me!
En français MERCI 😊😊😊😊😊
You did not mention fuel additives. Do you not use one?
Your yellow subtitles are difficult/impossible to read. Could you make them more readable, please?
It's mostly in french, going to have to pass on this one. Awesome trip though.
we already know he survived, but still it seems like a mistake
Net Balls more like 90+ years
Why is this overdubbed in French ? No explanation? Confused.....also only partially captioned. Still watched the whole thing Cheers.
WTF !!!
Why no English language in this posting? 😭
Why is there a french over track. I can't hear you talking?
Why is the video in french?
@Alluring Arctic Sailing i think you might have accidentally removed the english track when you added the dubs.
I'm also having this problem.
It works again thanks!
Me too
Wow didn’t know RUclips had deprédate video audio tracks
A french guy keeps coming in and speaking French over top of the audio.
I am hoping future videos are in English.
The video is in French for some reason
Why is this episode dubbed in French? Is it just my version WTF is going on here?
same
If you choose Hindi you get English audio
I have a feeling you will repost this video in English. Technical difficulties perhaps. Wish I spoke French.
Appears too dangerous for kids to be there.
i an french so i can understand the video but it is best in english and the voice created by AI is not nice to hear either
What will you do when you are in the middle of a ocean and WW3 starts??? 🤔🤔🤔
hmm
@AlluringArctic no worries.
Sir, please let us know - what will you do, Mr. RobertPaul, when you know this is the end?
@@frankd3024 Praying!! That is what I will be doing!!
the safest place will be sailing into US.
