- Meet the man and jackdaw who have an adorable bond after a chance roadside encounter - and now even go on BIKE rides together.
Michael Smith, 55, spotted an injured baby jackdaw lying on the roadside as he cycled home one evening in May.
He scooped up the tiny bird, now named Patch, and took him home where he made him a little nest and fed him scrambled eggs.
Now recovered, and about 16 weeks old, Patch has spread his wings, but comes back to his rescuer when Michael calls.
Bird and man have such a close relationship that Patch gives his friend little beaky kisses, and hitches lifts on his bike rides and walks.
Patch has been a celebrity guest at a wedding, and Michael loves him so much he even slept rough one night when his feathered friend didn’t come out of a tree.

He's a very lucky/special person,to form a bond with such an amazing special bird!
Well done. You've done a noble thing saving that bird ans now it gives you happiness in return.
Omg this is amazing I feel like many people don't notice these birds or realize how intelligent they can be! And also, the fact that they can bond with humans!
I always feed and talk to the jackdaws in my garden. Where I walk the dog in the evening there is a big park with pine trees that has hundreds of jackdaws roosting in it. Every year the new brood make loads of alarm calls when they first see us, then after about a fortnight they realise we're not a threat and you don't hear a peep out of them
They are such cheeky, charming and intelligent little characters.
a bird got this man to stop smoking as much
No need to pay for quitting smoking programs, just make friends with a jackdaw instead!! lol
So beautiful. I feed local jackdaws and one in particular comes down when he sees me. Not right up to me but he's definitely trusting me more
Any progress?
@@LewisZilla my next door neighbour took to banging the window and door when he was on the fence, not bothering anyone, and he ended up leaving. He obviously didn't feel safe. This year more have come back but I don't know if he's one of them. None show the same level of trust.
@@Beth1300 disgusting neighbours, sad that there’s so many Karen killjoy neighbours, mine are no better
@@LewisZilla yes, and even worse is she was feeding them before too and said she loved corvids. My poor wee jackdaw ☹️ Seeing him fly down close when I opened my door was the high point of my day
wow. He is awesome. I love jackdaws.
Wow...... lucky man Michael ❤
Fair play to you
Enjoy him because he seems to be enjoying hanging with you.
Hopefully he stays with you and lives a long healthy life.
Just found a sick fledgling a couple of days back. He has gotten a parasite cure and antibiotics and is doing much better and has just learned to fly.
Its the most inquisitive and trusting creature ive ever come about!
Wants to sleep in my bed and wants part of everything that i do… crazy!
what parasite treatment did you give him? I have one and think he needs a parasite treatment
I've just found a lil jackdaw. The bond is amazing.
I'm from Worcester
That's what I'm saying as well. I hope the best life for Tim but if he was to fly off, that will my proudest day.
I had a jackdaw I loved him so much but a couple months after he had passed away because he got attacked by a cat and I just can't get over the death of my bird I just feel like crying 😞❤😭
That’s harsh they’re so lovable.😢
Sophia, how long have you had him for? Can you give me some advice with mine? I found a Jackdaw with a broken wing yesterday. I think he might be a genius! Amazing thing.
@@leszekwolkowski9856how’d that go mate?

I have one .. wing problem
i have the same situation, like to here other experiences thx for putting your experience on you tube. but the sigaret is because of the tabaco they put it in theire nest because tabaco smell keeps parasites away. but i do the same my sigarettes i need to hide from him. just in case he doesnt swallow it up.
Mae’n ciwt iawn :)
And I cant even get my parents to stop smoking
Is Patch still with you
Early a lik boy it
Mine did the same same- stole my fag and ripped it up
Do NOT feed him bread! He doesn't need it and it's not good for him. God did not design birds to eat bread.
God designed birds the same way he designed all creatures, including us, to eat what is found in Nature.
Thumbs up for saving him and having a new friend!
Maybe everything is not what you think.
Even if Catching prey is an animal instinct,
but every life's life contains people,
does everyone encounter the same situation in every moment?
Sometimes we want to control everything we said,
but we can look from a different angle.
Maybe the bird stayed with him because of gratitude.
Patch is not assed tbh
Beautiful I found one this morning and took him home , vets were going to euthanise him
