Well, it's the other way around really. Birds don't bother themselves with stupid thoughts. Here is a case of a human dumber than a bird. From the birds view, this doesn't gain food, water or shelter. The bird reluctant comes back only to be a good buddy to his human.

These birds usually return even when they decide to live on their own. If a corvid likes you, it will keep visiting you unless it gets hurt or killed
