Great stuff, best updated with Dr Bergma's additional material. Thanks for the video. I hope lecturers quit the habit of talking to their screens (pointing at the maps)... thank goodness, the rest was fine, in fact good. The horrid way the bedouins dealt with these antiquities says a lot about both their poverty as well as abject self-interest.

Thank you for your reply, and please know that I'm trying to help you achieve the widest and largest audience possible. I've been studying early Christianity for many years and recently have watched about 30 videos on the Essenes/Dead Sea Scrolls/Christianity and I like Dr. Barber's the best. And even though I am not a video media expert, I was a digital imaging/retouching expert for Kodak and other media companies for many years and I'm pretty sure you can pull-down this video and edit the audio by compressing/clipping/normalizing it thus yielding a natural sounding and more "listenable" video, and then repost it. I think that will make it more likely to go "viral" or at least more likely that listeners will link it and send it to others to watch/hear. One thing I learned from my years as a digital imaging specialist is that continuous quality improvement is the M.O.
Thanks again and keep up your good works. john

This is a great presentation on The dead sea scrolls and Christian origins. Thank you very much and please teach more on the importance of the Dead Sea Scrolls and Christianity.
However the sound level needs fixing: it gets too loud and too soft at times, especially for listening in the car. Please fix the sound level as I'd like to send the link to my family but without fixing they probably won't listen all the way through. JPCatholic University being a media based school should have no trouble fixing audio and visual problems and if it's not standard practice yet I suggest using auto-sound level correction on all your video releases because mobile viewing and listening is becoming more and more common. If technical help is needed I suggest you contact the engineers who produce "The Vortex" and "The Church Militant News" as they produce technically superior shows, regardless of what you might think of their content. Thanks again. john s.

Thanks John! We have very competent audio-visual staff, but sometimes our equipment is faulty. In this case, our microphone had a bad connector causing the signal to occasionally cut out. We didn't find this out until afterward when we were playing everything back but we really wanted to get this talk out to you guys rather than not. After this, we decided to try double micing our talent in the case that one was faulty. As for fixing the levels, now that the video is uploaded, there's unfortunately nothing we can do, sorry! Glad you enjoyed it and got something out of it! :)

Very peculiar. The Dead Sea scrolls are old testament and tied to a second temple period seperatist Jewish sect. I don't understand why anyone would try to force them into a Christian perspective.

This is what latter religious movement do to the former. Christian claim the OT and even the dead sea scrolls are affirming their view and understanding of Jesus and claim all prophecies to be about Jesus messianic identity. The Muslim do the same claiming that all religions text be it Jewish or Christian are talking about their “Mohamed”. It’s what you call cognitive dissonance and delusion by faith 😂. Robert Eismann rebutted that claim that dead sea scroll is about Pauline or gentile Christianity. It’s more plausible to be about messianic apocalyptic early jewish Christians who may have believed in Jesus as messiah in the apocalyptic Jewish sense, but not as a divine figure the son or logos. Those Essenes that lived in Qumran community are plausibly the first true Jewish followers of the movement started by Jesus and later taken over by his brother James the just and the rest of followers in Qumran and Judea who subscribed to the same faith and apocalyptic world view.

It's like saying, we don't think understanding that the Saducees existed has any bearing on Christians. The esseans existed as a major third religious sect at the time of Jesus. Understanding this influences provides greater understanding to the language and life of the people in the time of the early Christians. Many modern Christians have a lot of beliefs that are contradicted by what the people of the time believed and this sheds light on what is correct. For example, knowing that the only mention of "Works of the Law" outside the Bible (around the period of Paul) is in the dead sea scrolls. This provides light on the context of what this term meant.

When he cites "The Messianic Apocalypse" from the DSS at the time of 36:12 one should note that text explicitly says that these First Century witnesses said these marvelous messianic expectations were still things that "have not been done" as far as their testimony goes. The New Testament makes claims that the First Century witnesses said they were looking for but had not yet happened on their watch.

This is relevant to all Christians and not just those of the Catholic Church. If you know anything of some of the nondenominational churches, then you already know this to be true! I cannot account this to the Protestant Churches, as I’ve not studied any of their belief systems.

At 56 min he tries to infer that one of the Dead Sea Scrolls refer to a Messianic figure (which is def debatable in the first place) with being interchangable with God. That is not the case from that text. Not in the English nor in it's original.

What other historical discovery/find happened at around the same time as the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls that are just as significant yet hardly discussed?

The Nag Hammadi Library was discovered in 1945. Thirteen leather-bound papyrus codices of early Christian and Gnostic texts buried in a sealed jar. It was discovered near the Upper Egyptian town of Nag Hammadi.

The book was severely criticised by Hershel Shanks of Biblical Archaeology Review.[1]Joseph Fitzmyer has described it as consisting largely of a "pattern of errors and misinformed statements".[2]
The book makes a number of incorrect claims and has been ridiculed by scholars who have worked with the Dead Sea scrolls[3] and who have come to the conclusion that Jesus and early Christianity are very different from the ideas and people represented in the Dead Sea scrolls.[4]

Michael fails to tie together the theme of the "twelve men" in the Comunuity counsel and the twelve disciples chosen by Jesus as having an origin in the symbolism of the twelve tribes of Israel.

Since you found out how to use the internet like posting your comment, I’m sure the DSS can be seen in these archaeological web sites where they’ve taken hi res pics of the DSS artifacts. Or if you’re still not convinced, fly to Israel and view it in the museum. But you’re obviously not convinced anyway so why bother.

    STUDY THIS: Luke Chapter 4:16-30
Jesus came to Nazareth, into the synagogue on a Sabbath day. He was given the scroll of Isaiah to read, and read Isaiah 61, Septuagint passage: 1.The Spirit of YHVH is upon me, because HE has anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; HE have sent me to heal the broken hearted*, to preach deliverance to the captives*, and recovering of sight to the blind , to set liberty at them that are bruised*,
    2. to preach the acceptable year of YHVH (omitted: and the day of vengeance of our GOD; to comfort all that mourn*;)
He said to them(in the synagogue)
"This day this scripture is fulfilled in your ears"(Luke v21)
People pondered(meditated, puzzled over) at what he said.
After a few more sayings that he said(Luke v23-v27), all the people in the synagogue have been enraged, in wrath and kicked him out of town.
    QUESTION:
What probable cause(reason) that made them(synagogue leaders and the Nazareth community) enraged against Jesus?
Law and commandments associated in this scene that made the people of Nazareth in wrath in Luke 4 are Deuteronomy 13, and 18 about
'false prophet" and Numbers ch 12:4-9

[...] The study’s use of C14 dating of one of the bones, and further inspections of morphology and pathology of the skeletal remains, have led the team to reaffirm “the uniqueness of Qumran’s society, supporting the earliest theories, which view Qumran as a community of ideologically celibate men.”
[...] The study confirms that the overwhelming majority of the 33 skeletons found in the graves excavated in 2016 were male, and reevaluated other remains from the cemetery which had falsely been classified as female. According to the website Science News, “reexamination of 53 previously unearthed human skeletons from Qumran’s cemetery, now housed in France, found that six of seven individuals formerly tagged as women were actually men.”

Before Abraham was, I AM. When u think about this and his preaching he always says Its not me who is saying those things its the Lord who is speaking through me. I think that I AM means that through Jesus, God says that I AM and HE speaks through Jesus. He meant to say:" I AM the one who choosed Abraham and I AM the one who u serve." I dont know why pleople think like Pharisees just because they thought that hes saying that he is god doesnt mean that he approves pharisees accusations. I dont know why all people think that Jesus is God and theres trinity... Its always the same people telling whats right and wrong but no one undestands. Yeshua Ha'Mashiach is the one who Israel have been waiting for but he never said that hes GOD! He always said and told many times that everything that he has done and said comes from I AM. The one who works through Jesus. So I AM means that through Jesus GOD is speaking. We need to give glory to GOD and Jesus is the Lamb. U need to believe in Jesus not as god but as servant of GOD, son of GOD. Israel and every Jew is a child of GOD but through Jesus we as gentiles have been blessed to believe that Jesus gave us opportunity to worship GOD of Abraham, Moses and Jacob. And I will say it again if u believe that Jesus is Messiah and if we do believe that GOD has spoken through Jesus with all miracles, works and words that he spoke, GOD will give us the blessings as Jews have and we will be able to have holy spirit as Jesus had to be able to serve >GOD and serve righteously!
