I really liked how Boimler managed to use his own clumsiness to revert Tendi. Not only that shows quick thinking on his behalf, but that replicated food fountain made me laugh, even if the joke itself was just a basic slapstick humor, actor's delivery and the way it was paced and shot, made it work. Also he seems to have gotten that redshirt girl interested in him, I wonder if they'll do something with that.
@@anderssorenson9998 I wouldn't mind it. Tendi and Rutherford seem a little too obvious and Boimler does have some chemistry with her. Though S2 finale seems to perhaps set up a Mariner/Boimler/Jennifer triangle...
@@CrazyChemistPL I thought that was a bit bitter sweet Mariner finally gets a love interest but then that ending, they really don't want her to be happy. I do hope they make them a thing it would be good for her characters growth. Wouldn't you love to see a meet the parents episode with Boimler or Tendi's parent's.
@@anderssorenson9998 I wouldn't mind if Boimler ended up with Mariner either. I find it somewhat strange, though, that the show seems to set up genuine attraction between characters, especially Rutherford and Tendi, and then play it like it is "just friends". I mean, look at the finale, saving three backup memory copies seems like going the extra mile "just a friend".
@@CrazyChemistPL Oh God no, to me Boimler and Mariner are like siblings, whether it's her being a bit of a brat and deliberately aggravating him to her playing the protective big sister when she didn't trust his new girlfriend and was genuinely concerned for his well being and was determined to meddle whether he likes it or not. I really do love that way they had Tendi and Rutherford be able to express their deep affection by using the ship as a proxy.
I actually really like that Boimler is off on his own here. It shows growth that Mariner doesnt go after him to see what he's doing and it shows growth that Boimler immediately defends his friends while they are away. Both moments would be undercut by trying to mix the plots together and would pretty much take away most of the character stuff in the episode
Yep Mariner inserting her self into the little clique or loudly mocking them or Boimler would have ruined it, and the little atta boy that Ransom gives Boimler was more meaningful beacause it was entirely him his silly but ingenious plan.
I really enjoyed the episode. A few things off, but very enjoyable. Loved the Boimler stuff and the spy. Wanted more of the spy trio. Didn't realize that Boimler + Tendi could actually work.
The Cerritos was actually a perfect choice for this mission. Not only has Freeman beaten the Pakleds before ()perhaps even multiple times by now), but would you REALLY send in a state-of-the-art Starfleet ship to the homeworld of as species that's assimilating all the tech they can find? The Cerritos is an old, outdated workhorse ship that doesn't even have modern warp engines. The less the Pakleds can obtain if something goes wrong, the better. Also, it should have been quite telling that the Pakleds just assumed the most important ship would be sent for a negotiation. Thus, it had to be the Enterprise, and since the captain had hair, it must be Janeway. Considering Freeman's actually pulled off some impressive missions of late (such as turning a Ferengi poaching operation into a nature reserve), it also stands to reason the brass are paying a bit more attention to her now. I was a little disappointed by the anomaly thing, but more so because it was just a series of quick gags shoehorned together. Had it been them in one or two rooms and dealing with one or two mishaps, I think it would have worked out better. Was good seeing Mariner getting the short end of the straw, though, and I really feel there was some more development with Tendi, because we caught a glimpse of what she's really feeling under that cheerful exterior. As for the replicator thing, it was a very Red Dwarf moment, but it worked. We've seen replicators spew stuff when malfunctioning before. In this instant, the panel was obviously damaged, and Boimler's massive, rapid-fire order overwhelmed the system. Between the two, the replicator began trying to produce the order so fast that it ended up jetting out under the pressure.
I liked most of the ep, outside of the Anomaly collection stuff, that was rather boring imo but I did enjoy watching Mariner being the receiving end of what would be normally Boimler getting bad luck of being hurt. Boimler rising to the occasion is great... and the Red Shirt clique is basically a stand in for Red Squad from DS9.
Great episode. Not every episode needs to be an Easter egg hunt. This season is proving the shows characters can stand out on there own. Looking forward to more tendi boimler eps
it felt like the anomaly-duty story meant to imply that mariner was a bit pissed that all the stuff hit her when she really, really wanted to see it hit boimler. but maybe im overanalyzing.
@@neondemon5137 There are people still complaining about Mariner being a Mary Sue this season when I feel this season doing the opposite and actually showing Mariner wrong, unable to solve the problem, and even getting picked on for the butt of the joke... especially this ep where Mariner was on the receiving end of a lot of painful moments
@@MedalionDS9 To paraphrase comic book guy, Worst Mary Sue Ever! Early in season 1 she is shown to be selfish not a team player fully convinced that only she knew how to do something and is immediately proven wrong in every case. By far and away the single best episode and most well balanced of Lower Decks. I would dare say this might be LDs "Best of Both Worlds" moment. Not so much in narrative impact, but turning the corner from being a questionable series to becoming a truly good series and able to stand on its own merits. Ultimately the thing that really made this good? Putting Mariner on the back burner where she belongs Cause she is the albatross around the shows neck.
I'm still trying to understand after over 25 years how the Pakleds can exist. These guys are too dumb to fly a kite, much less a spaceship. How do they maintain/operate their vessels and equipment? Who really built that city because they sure didn't. And I won't even go into how they could possibly govern a society. Were they once more intelligent and then devolved for some reason? Is someone else helping them out from the shadows? These questions demand answers
Pakleds pretend to be dumb. They have enough low cunning to salvage & bolt on different ship parts from completely different races & tech levels, but not enough to develop their own major warp drive tech. Also, the Pakleds play up to their rep of being dumb so they can disable passerby ships and strip them down for more parts.

Probably close to the truth.
To be fair on when Boimler ordered all if the food, Tendi had damaged the replicators as well

"GET OUT OF MY CHAIR! AND GO CLEAN THE AIRLOCK, THAT PAKLED SPY DID UNDPEAKABLE THINGS IN THERE."
Packled poops are strong.
The reason why Freeman was the one to go was because she had proof she was, “strong“ by beating them once.

I feel this and a few other episodes would benefit from being a little longer. They should be closer to thirty minutes like What If...?
Maybe they figured if anything happens to the Cerritos no big loss.
Title makes me think of a scene from a Simpson's episode where one of the characters a Chinese military guy was named the great humongous.
There is also a character named the Lord Humungus from the Mad Max movies
Basically, too many chefs in the kitchen.
Probably have a bunch of designs. Might have gotten a few ships at once and that's why some look the same.
Or a nod to how they kept re-using the same ship models over and over, sometimes with some new stuff glued on or moved around.
