In real life couples tend to have a bit of a falling out that on a 50/50 whim ends in divorce, followed by a reconciliation (the remarriage part). Not all relationships are static like that.
@@nevaehhamilton3493That was never a real statistic. It was a prediction from the 70s. Also the way divorce rates are calculated are misleading. What’s compared is the rate of married people out of 1000 and the rate of divorced people out of 1000. It’s hard to google these things because there’s so much misinformation, but in 2014 it was reported that 70% of marriages from the 90s lasted at least 15 years (excluding any marriages that ended in the death of one or both spouses). You can find the article that discusses this on r/weddingplanning in a post titled “That 50% divorce rate myth…”
@@WhirlyBeepBoops100% agreed. Cosmo and Wanda have been one of my favorite couples forever, so to see them like this, again, makes me really happy. 💖 I really hope we get more episodes of the new show.
That was always the impression I got with how they portray kids growing out of needing their fairies. Wanda even explains it as them ceasing to believe.
well that's gentler than my theory of being explained as childhood memory loss due to trauma, since the kids who get fairies are the ones who would have a lot of trauma
I think I would have liked the idea of Wanda being book smart and Cosmo being street smart. That would have been so cute and they could have worked better with their strengths and weaknesses. I hated that they quickly ended up hating each other in the show. It took no time that even as a kid I wondered why they were together.
@@anonymouslucario285 The OP doesn't say that he hated the show, he just hated the flanderization of Cosmo and Wanda's character that ruined their married relationship in the later seasons of the original series (and all thanks to Timmy's "secret wish" that somehow drastically changed their fate until recently in The New Wish series).
@@poweroffriendship2.0yeah, I agree. They are talking about how the director who took on the show made their dynamic to the boomer humor of “I hate my wife.” It wasn’t fun to see as a kid for me either lol
I was discussing this with a friend, and we agreed that there was an awful amount of round-about wishing to make the assassination attempt even happen, let alone succeed.
I joked to my brother once that Anti Cosmo and Anti Wanda should have gotten more complex as characters as the show went as a reverse to Cosmo and Wanda's flanderization, and then He said "their marriage gets better over time" and I think about it all the time.
Absolutely perfect. On a similar note I think about what their version of Floating With You would be like on a near consistent basis. I was obsessed with the AF’s as a kid (and Blonda and Schnozmo but that’s neither here nor there) and I always wanted more of them, particularly AC and AW.
@@usermcskull4713 I was fixated on Anti-Cosmo for perhaps longer than I cared about the actual show! I believe the only mean thing he's ever said to Anti-Wanda was (paraphrased) "I love you, but you're kinda stupid" and in fairness, she did just get him in trouble and his tone was very "not mad, just disappointed". Anti-Wanda has never said anything rude to him as far as I remember. So, yeah! In their little bit of screen time together, they are one of the healthiest relationships in a Butch Hartman cartoon
Don't let this distract you from the fact that, before he met Wanda, Cosmo is canonically responsible for the destruction of Pompeii, sunk Atlantis into the deep ocean 9 times, and turned Xanadu turned into Pittsburgh, which removed Jorgen from being a 5-star general.
I dunno I personally thing Timmy keeping them CAPTURED AGAINST THEIR WILL FOR 50 YEARS might put a strain on their marriage. It could be that they were subconsciously attacking the only people they could, each other. With Timmy gone, that probably helped alot.
It makes a lot of sense, though. Godparents can't risk being found out, or they go away forever, and they don't often get the chance to interact with other fairies. So, being constantly stuck with one person in a stressful situation is going to cause conflict I saw a bit of the first episode and saw Cosmo and Wanda disguised as and interacting with regular adults. This. They need more of this in their lives. Socializing beyond each other.
@@semi_enigma One early Saturday morning, Wanda watches over Timmy, whispering to Cosmo in the fishbowl: Wanda: "Hey, sweetie, you ever feel like something has been off for a while? I know we're immortal, but this year in particular has felt REALLY long. Amd Timmy, we teach him a lesson, but it never seems to stick. It just feels like we're... I don't know, maybe I'm-" Cosmo, vacantly staring for the past 3 hours at the bedroom wall: "Stop nagging me! Every day I wake up and I hear your voice... like you've been complaining about me and Timmy since... Wands and wings, how long has it been?" "Cosmo? Are you okay?" "My wand... something is wrong with my wand. It's tainted..." "Maybe you should go back in the castle and lie down." "No, Timmy's waking up! He's gonna make a big fun wish today!... He ALWAYS does..."
If that misogynist didn’t have a hand in how the girls/women are portrayed in fairly odd parents, it would have been a cool redeeming quality of Vicky if she was written to be mean to everyone but her sister.
Vicky actually really loved Tootie in the Oh Yeah shorts. She was very protective and even got mad at Timmy because she thought he did something mean to her. She also knew Tootie had a crush on Timmy and sometimes used that to annoy him lol
Okay Butch must have some marriage issues going on because why did he fuck up a happy marriage, like if you hate your marriage fine but keep that miserable crap out of our cartoons
Honestly seeing how he works closely with his wife and their god-fearing faith healing bologna… I don’t think it’s him hating his wife as much as him hating women in general…or domineering women who disagree with their husband. But then there’s Sam Manson from Danny Phantom who is dominant and proactive in her beliefs, but she’s also treated as an annoying nag by her best friends/love interests. Sam is a weird character that I don’t know what Butch Hartman really was trying with her in comparison to Wanda. Danny Phantom was a show he really wanted to make and so I wonder what makes Sam seem less like someone to crap on vs Wanda. Sam is still crapped on, but not to the extent Wanda is. It’s weirdly complicated.
@@carsfan1995 Let's not forget about how Butch retconned the ghosts in Danny Phantom, stating that the ghosts Danny fought aren't ghosts, but rather than monsters from another dimension. If the retcon is not bad enough, then the backstory of Desiree, Ember, and other villains in the show tells otherwise.
@saint_squared525It started like that, but after Phil Hartman tragically passed away (months before the pilot’s release,) Cosmo’s VA dropped that specific cadence out of respect.
@@LeafRazorStormTimmy's original va before tara, committed the unsubscribe from life (because RUclips hates the s word) and butch made it look like it was Tara's fault
Wanda and Cosmo retiring for a while and rebuilding their relationship, to allow for new individual characterization and new dual dynamic, was a really brilliant move.
Fairy Godchildren blanking out and losing a lot of their memories darkly makes sense in the FOP universe. Adults with traumatizing childhoods irl have a harder time recalling their childhood memories due to psychological repression. In FOP, since fairies are given specifically to troubled children, this traumatic amnesia could be explained by having their fantastical memories of fairies completely wiped out with little to replace them.
They’re literally one of if not literally my favorite color combos. I can’t tell if it’s because of them or Ben x Julie, but I always loved seeing them together.
I think what makes A New Wish so good is that not only are writers from Infinity Train and Craig of the Creek (two top tier shows) working for the show, but Butch Hartman isn't AS involved, only being a producer.
how come poof or pari is here I thought he would be gone because Timmy wished for poof and when he grew up all of his wishes would go away how come poof is still here he should be if Timmy’s wishes are gone because he grew up poof should no longer exist
I think the robotic fairy hybrid were translated into the Pixies, they ain't robots but they are very mathematical and square, also pixies is probably because of the similarity with pixels
I’m just waiting for the future video about Peri to drop. I honestly have a feeling that Peri’s gonna become the father-figure that Dev deserves considering how his father doesn’t care about him at all, really.
@@AthenaPOfficialFOP ANW is my new hyperfixation! And apparently, according to Hazel’s VA (who’s also an executive producer on the series) this show is gonna have an overarching plot unlike the original series. Which I’m excited about! Also PERI’S SUCH A GOOBER!!! I LOVE HIM!!! I want a plushie of him ❤️😭
Tangentially related to both this comment and the actual video, given the summary for the season finale, I wonder if we’ll get a peek at where Anti-Cosmo and Anti-Wanda’s relationship has gone since their counterparts retired. I have a feeling their relationship with their own son might be a bit strained given how Peri loves his parents but really wants to be an independent adult and treated as such. I will be so smug if it turns out AC and AW grew into a “Masochism Tango” dynamic.
I love their dynamic in the pilots where they’re madly in love and Cosmo is the more outgoing risk taker while Wanda is more reserved and calculated. Casue Wanda brings Cosmo back down to earth and Cosmo helps Wanda step out of her comfort zone. Glad to see that they did that in the new show!
18:40 I kinda like this gag because, in a later scene, Wanda throws Cosmo halfway across the stadium (for unrelated reasons) and he just shouts “I should really listen to her more!” And thus, the universe is balanced.
fan theory, the end of the Oh Yeah shorts is when Tommy made his wish to stop people aging. The deterioration of the characters around him and their relationships is a result of their suspension in that moment. also doug dimmadome is Sans from Earthbound
That makes sense from a lore standpoint When the series officially starts, all the things that made the Oh Yeah shorts good got fucked up His parents became incompetent, Vicky went from a mean teenager to pure fucking evil, his real life friends got reduced from background characters to non existent to make more room for wish shenanigans
I love how they are both "two sides of the same idiot" in the new show again. Also really world marriages are also themed, like the 5th aniversary is the wood one or the 20ths is the Silver one.
It's absolutely insane that it's CANON that Cosmo and Wanda became worse people when they became Timmy's fairy godparents, that would be like Sheen and Carl being happier without Jimmy or Squidward and Patrick being happier without Spongebob... which also might even be the case... jeez, when did cartoon main characters become huge jerks, apparently.
@@AthenaPOfficial True, but I guess Patrick counts as a main character too since he has his own spin-off, regardless Im accidently making the wrong point. I never really saw Timmy (or even Jimmy until I saw your video) as an "awful" person until you either catch the few times they are truly awful to even the ones close to them or you see how happy other characters are without them. I was mostly just throwing out random cartoons to show how absurd it is at the notion that the side characters would be happier without the main character until I realized those random examples were actually true too. Nothing against Spongebob but obviously Squidward would be happier and Patrick looks like he's doing fine without him in his spin-off so...
There's this specific instance in A New Wish that I love where Cosmo and Wanda are taking jabs at each other, and whereas the old show would've probably made Cosmo call her a nag and piss her off or something, the whole time they're giggling and smirking at each other like a couple of teenagers. They've somehow steered back into their honeymoon phase and I love that for them
If we learned anything from Cosmo and Wanda's marriage going from hopeless idiots madly in love to completely in shambles to back to love with each other, it's that some time to let loose from your stressful job of looking after a kid 24/7 really helps relationships. And off-screen therapy. Lots and LOTS of therapy.
After watching I've come to the conclusion that Cosmo and Wanda's marriage wasn't strained because they grew apart, it was strained *PURELY BECAUSE OF TIMMY.* They started happy because Timmy was a fresh face, a new start, so to speak. But then as time went on, Timmy would ask things of them that started to divide them. They would disagree on a lot of stuff about Timmy, and that would cause personal issues. However as they started having other people to talk to/interact with, they were more happy. First it was Poof, then Sparky, then Chloe, and at every step they would love each other more and more. Heck, they even say that they were too close and cramped in Timmy's fishbowl because WHO WOULDN'T BE. It seemed like, although they tried not to get found out, _Timmy_ was the one who made them hide. Then with Hazel they seem so happy and completely free to do whatever, and when you consider that they had a 10,000 year break from Timmy, everything just kind of lines up: Timmy was draining their energy, causing them to be more aggressive with each other. The more outlets both Timmy and Cosmo and Wanda had, the happier the pair seemed to be.
Well ... No wonder why there is an episode that revells that everyone's life is better whitout Timmy ( Wich kinda sucks and is one of the most hated episodes but ... If you look closely on all the selfish actions that Timmy does along the series ... Yah i Just don't know how to end this so ... Yuh)
@@maironzulato7351 oh my god. Timmy is a scourge* on the life of those whom he considers friends. He, intentionally or not, slows down and halts people’s progress toward their own goals to excel in the progression of his own. *Edit: Scourge is a bit excessive and hyperbolic; he _is_ a kid. But I stand by the rest of what I said: he was extra stress that was put on Cosmo and Wanda’s relationship, but by no fault of their own (they being all three of them.)
Even as a kid I noticed that their marriage went from loving and sweet to super toxic. Some of the jokes were funny, but it was overall uncomfortable to see a married couple become boomerfied. It was exhausting and sad to see. I’m so glad Cosmo and Wanda’s relationship was fixed. Their chemistry was (and now is once again) so good.
Theory: Timmy’s wish to freeze everyone for 50 years is why everyone becomes an asshole. Time freezing means that things cannot *change*, and if things cannot change then they cannot evolve. Things can’t get worse, but they can’t get better either. This is why Cosmo and Wanda, as well as everyone else, stay in the same level of emotional development: Timmy didn’t just stop everyone from aging, but from changing their thought patterns and taking in new info. Cosmo will always be the idiot husband and Wanda will always be the exasperated “nag”, because any point for character development is moot. If they ever have a thought that l challenges their “default“ frozen state, it eventually gets undone and we’re back to square one. To me this is also an in universe explanation for why all the wishes ALWAYS go back to the status quo. No matter what Timmy wishes for, it will at most last a few days before the rules of his “no aging” wish kick in and fate allows him to undo everything. I know it’s easy to rag on Timmy, but I also think this explains his own shitty behavior. Kids are little assholes, and being frozen in time with the emotional and physical maturity of a child from an abusive home life with an endless supply of wishes at your disposal would turn most kids into an asshole. It’s a constant dopamine rush that has no long lasting consequences. Timmy is immature because, despite technically being 60 years old, he NEVER “grew up”. He’s Peter Pan, constantly stuck at an age and never able to experience the challenges of life until he leaves the cycle he created.
Oh my god, THAT'S where Timmy's parents' faces not being shown came from?? The Oh Yeah, Cartoons??? In the deepest recesses of my mind, I remember Fairly OddParents not showing Timmy's parents' faces throughout multiple episodes, but I thought I was going crazy! I knew there was the pilot, but I thought that was it, I didn't know they had multiple "pilot"-esque episodes!
Specifically, they had ten “Oh Yeah” cartoons, and they accounted for about a third of FOP’s reruns back in 2001 (because the first real season was just THAT short.)
I’m only now learning about these multiple shorts and those being where the “snake transition into a milkshake” bit in the intro came from. Always felt random to me as a kid
i feel so bad how bad timmy was flanderized as well. like at first he was like. just selfish in the same way a 10 year old will be but he still had a good heart, and also as acknowledge bY HIS OWN PARENTS IN CHANNEL CHASERS, he literally????? was a child of neglect????? but it was like after that they made him the villian of his own story. it makes me so sad
I found Cosmo a huge idiot, but the episode of him standing up to his mom was huge for me. Because my dad never did that to his mom and it was the first time i saw a cartoon dad (or anny dad) standing up to his toxic boy mom.
I think them feeling "cramped" in the fishbowl is a nicer way of saying that even though they loved Timmy, he kind of made them worse people. Being around TImmy made them feel smothered and stifled. Canonically that little castle in their fishbowl was Bigger On The Inside and the interior was basically a _real_ castle with different wings and everything. I'm pretty sure it was implied that they had been moving it between godkids before they got to Timmy (but I mostly think that because of how they had sections set up to show their history and they were in the middle of adding TImmy to it.). I think people can go kind of hard on hating Timmy, but the show notes all the time that TImmy having his fairies for so long and making wishes so often is highly unusual. I think having Cosmo and Wanda gave him a sense of comfort and control that he didn't otherwise have in his life and he hated the idea of losing it, and I think that can co-exist with Timmy also being a selfish and mean-spirited person who stopped time so that he could be happy. (I think the concept of Fairy Godparents seems kind of messed up to begin with. If there's a kid miserable enough, they get Godparents. Ok, cool. But if they get to be too happy, the Fairy/Fairies get taken away and everything they wished for disappears. And that also happens if they get too old. Why give the Fairies at all then, if the happiness they bring can't even be a fun memory to revisit? It makes sense that eventually they would end up with a kid like Timmy who is smart enough to keep his fairies and desperate not to lose them.)
They’re not taken away of the kids too happy, only when they outgrow/ let the secret out. Godparents are there to make miserable kids happy. Yeah the concept of giving these kids magic and taking it away or holding that over their heads is messed up but a they’re not taken away I’d the kids too happy, it’s literally their job to make them happy 😂
Fun fact: The Oddbaby special was meant to be theatrical but ended up being cancelled into a TV one due to substantial similarities with the Rugrats movie with Dil….and that honestly explains a lot.
Can I just say that your voices for Cosmo and Wanda are actually like really fitting and I'd totally watch a radio drama of them sorting out their issues together? I'll settle for a Wattpad fic and I'm not even kidding.
And beautiful beautiful Number Blocks? (not a Brit, just enchanted with them much in the manner I was with Grandpa in my Pocket that time I discovered it while sick at a fancy hotel)
should have kept the concept of Wanda being booksmart and Cosmo being streetsmart. I liked their dynamic better in the earlier episodes before the change.
They go from Love, to toxic, to love again. Honestly, I'm glad things worked out between them. I've always loved the fairly oddparents ever since I was kiddo. And seeing Cosmo and Wanda take a turn for the better warms my heart.
Cosmo and Wanda are the perfect example of two adorable lovebirds who hit a rough patch in their relationship for a while before getting therapy and fixing their adorable relationship, turning it into what it is now in A New Wish.
The idea of Fairly OddParents being set in the Dan Schneider-verse is terrifying, but there's something funny about the idea of someone from iCarly or Henry Danger just turning on the TV and seeing on the news that Dimmsdale is having another catastrophic event that week and they're just sitting there like "yea, classic Dimmsdale" as the laugh track hits
I had to make this meme while it's still June Jorgan: Cosmo, Wanda, It is Pride Month! You know what that means! Wanda: Wha? Wanda: You want us to grant, like, gay wishes? What?
Cosmo after seeing Timmy literally just walk out of his closet: Everyone, look! Timmy finally came out of the closet! *Hugs Timmy tightly* as your fairy godfather, I have never been more proud of you, your so brave 🥺 Timmy: Cosmo, I just came out of my closet, no need to get so emotional :/
@CatherinePercyJackson I'm guessing that the idea there was that being too nice can have some pretty bad effects especially if you're a girl, but that usually only happens when you're a teen and up kids can be mean but their exploiting of someone being too nice kinda ends at just having them do all the things they don't wanna do. Mostly homework if they're smart. Which most kids who are too nice are. But academically. And I heavily doubt that for a kid that'd make you miserable enough to make you need fairy godparents. Along with that I think that teens are too old for fairy godparents and if they aren't I heavily doubt that a show about a kid who has secret godparents that are actually fairies, and a bunch of goofy "careful what you wish for" stuff would get anywhere close to what being "too nice" entails for girls. Juet way too dark for a show with such a goofy premise and for younger kids. Since like... cmon teens are not gonna be watching this they usually outgrow it (and then become fans again as adults)
As someone currently in my Danny Phantom brainrot (that has similar boomer humor issues among other things), being reminded of how Cosmo and Wanda's relationship was and how fop was in general...man. Id love to see more fictional relationship deep dives as part of the mini/micro lore stuff
"Um..50 years ago..🤓" EXCUSE ME???? The way my jaw DROPPED when I heard this little lore nugget. I completely forgot about this line. No one noticed until now??? Does Timmy have the mentality of a 50+ year old but is perpetually stuck in the body of a 10 year old??? This is horrifying and I can't move past it 😭
It makes more sense that he still thinks like a ten year old. If time is frozen, his mind and emotions cannot develop. This actually makes the “I wish everyone was frozen in time” wish make MORE sense, because only a child would make a wish so shortsighted and not think the consequences through.
As a black man who’s researched as far as he could, The Fairly OddParents: A New Wish is the only GOOD black kids show now. The really sad part is that there’s barely any good black kids shows running right now. I’m sure there’s some I haven’t heard of. But then you look at shows from the big three networks. Young Dylan sucks, That Girl Lay Lay sucks, even The Proud Family sucks now! All three networks have been sabotaging practically every show that isn’t a spin-off, sequel series or reboot for like the past 5 years now. One of the victims unfortunately includes Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur. And who knows if that show will get a third season. Raven’s Home, Craig of the Creek and the latter show’s spin-off, Jessica’s Big Little World are all over now. Iyanu: Child of Wonder which we’ve waited for almost two years was just announced to be delayed to 2025! The best we can hope for is that A New Wish stays consistent with their quality moving forward. A modern Fairly OddParents show. Who’d have thunk?
It sucks about the lack of good black TV shows now, but I'm hoping A New Wish can bring something awesome to the table! The character designs are pretty cute too 😁💞
There's this show called moon girl and devil dinosaur that I watched while babysitting one time. It was the one episode about her learning to love her hair and the little black girls I was babysitting seems to like and resonate with it and overall love the show. She's also based on a pretty cool marvel comic character so double win
none of those shows suck tho maybe ur just a negative person inherently but each of those shows have their own unique endearing charm and theres a reason they have all done very well theyre probably just misunderstood and u judged them after an episode without actually watching those shows in their entirety and giving them a fair chance raven's home isnt over its also getting a spin off
I’ve watched several episodes of That Girl Lay Lay, including the crossover between all of the sitcoms that were airing at the time including the actually decent shows, Side Hustle and Warped!, and I didn’t laugh once, Lay Lay sucks at acting and the scripts are so predictable that it makes you think they worked for Tyler Perry! Oh wait! The Proud Family Louder and Prouder has some decent aspects at times but it feels more bitter and mean-spirited even compared to the original’s bad episodes. And I’ve heard from a couple RUclipsrs that Young Dylan has been improving. Not necessarily good, especially good enough to be the only Nick show from the last few years to receive four seasons, but improving at least.
I love how Athena always seems like genuinely excited to be talking about stuff, like she’s always excited we’re here listening to her and even excited at the end because she’ll see us next time, like damn. I like feeling appreciated like this!
I like how Timmy is an actual contender for worst godchildren of Cosmo and Wanda, after that 50 years time freeze he got on the same level if not worse than Maryann (the kid that started ww1).
34:02 I didn’t know that there was a new fairly odd parents- but I a new wish seems like a great show- like Cosmo and Wanda being happy together? What they really needed 😭💖
i found cosmo and wanda's flanderization coming from a mix of the creators and writers' own weird feelings about women (they're all nags) and marriage (hur hur the ball and chain) and 00s humor. like, the 00s were such an abysmal period for comedy with the punchline always being something hateful, so it made sense to me for a while to see fop as another victim of that since a lot of it got pretty mean spirited as it carried on past the "good" seasons. it's a relief that they're back to being sweet and goofy with each other in new wish, and kinda wonder if that's also a sign of the time since millennials and younger appear to have some healthier attitudes about relationships compared to older generations that had a gorilla grip on the concept/unfunny observation of marriage or just having a long term partner as the worst thing that can happen to you/the end of having a fun, fulfilling life
9:10 okay Amanda, I was ready to sit down and watch a video of Cosmo and Wanda's marriage and how it's gradually regressed to blatant stereotypes until a New Wish, what I was NOT expecting to hear was emotional incest
I feel like the reboot scenes where Cosmo and Wanda talk about "the Timmy days" is a reference to how these characters were confined to bad writing when they were under Butch Hartman
In Cosmo's defence,he is portrayed as a mama's boy. He's very easily influenced. So it's not a shock his mum could convince him to be okay with the situation. Plus, cookies! Who doesn't like cookies?

It's so weird how Cosmo and Wanda are either one of the cutest cartoon couples or the most toxic, there's no in-between. I'm very glad they sorted things out. At their best they rival Bob and Linda Belcher and post AT finale Marcy and PB in terms of cuteness.
@BellaGirl999 green isn’t real It’s an illusion It’ll never be a creative color (/ref) Because creativity must exist on a plain But to whom the plain does not exist Neither does the wonders of the mind Stuck in one dimension eternally
Maybe Mama Cosma always hovers and "over-protective" towards Cosmo could be that she doesn't see her other son, Schnozmo (as often as Cosmo) and possibly her husband left her and/or died after he was turned into a fly by Cosmo as a baby (when got his first wand)
The way the new show just brought back Poof (Peri hello??) makes me desperate for an update/mini video on that series because I need to know what you think of his glow up and I need to know it now.
Yk what, I’m gonna say it. They should have kept the dynamic Cosmo and Wanda had in the Oh Yeah cartoon shorts. I loved the dynamic and their characterizations. Not that I fully hate the new ones, but still I just want that dynamic with them.
Dunno if you’ve mentioned it but at least for me, the biggest difference between the shorts and show is that in the Oh Yeah shorts, Timmy was originally voiced by Mary Kay Bergman, but was replaced and redubbed by Tara Strong following Bergman’s passing. Tbh, I prefer Bergman’s take on Timmy over Tara’s.
They should’ve done a Toy Story 2 and preserved Bergman’s recordings (in that film her yodelling and the woody’s roundup show) and just use the new VA for the new stuff
Ok but i can only imagine timmy's final days with Cosmo and Wanda where perhaps they mention or he realizes that having them as *pets* in his room is kind of a very trapping and dehumanizing experience (it also forces them to constantly perform for mortals because adults DO interact with kids' pets a lot). Put this with the whole "I wish for 50 years of repeating childhood where no one else is aware of this" and these omnipotent angel-like beings probably felt very bad about the whole thing. I like to believe that, at least in those final days, timmy felt guilty about his BS, and that guilt's lessons stayed in some form even after the memory wipe to help him grow up.
Given it’s stated they’ve apparently been married for hundreds or even thousands of years, it sounds like they basically just hit the Fairy equivalent of a small rough patch or a drawn out argument before things got better
I really liked finding the oh yeah cartoons and seeing how much Cosmo and Wanda enjoyed each other's company. They even had an out for jokes where the blame could be put on Cosmo's wand rather than his brain or lack thereof. After watching some episodes and clips again, you can tell that the writers centered in on the "haha get it. It's funny cause marriage is terrible" jokes especially on Cosmo's end and it's just not funny especially when you do it as many times as there are years in their marriage. I like that they are just making them love eachother again since not only is it cute but it also has its own jokes and writing to it that doesn't make me theorize that fairies are eternally bound to whoever they first marry (which....I just cooked that one up but honestly I wouldn't be surprised if that was a rule). Wanda being more carefree and Cosmo being able to reason at least somewhat is also a plus. Also, gotta say, loved that little back and forth you did of them discussing where they went wrong. Not only were the impressions funny but it also felt like a real instance of them growing apart due to different circumstances and trying to understand eachother so that they can mend it because they really do love one another. It also didn't end on a bad running gag so that was nice.
Damn so whenever the two of them get with literally any other godchild, their marriage improves exponentially, I guess it’s a wishful life was correct, everyone would be much better if Timmy was never around
I just want to remind you that this version of the world (without Timmy) is one possible scenario, created by Jorgen to teach Timmy a lesson (which I think would be more of a trauma than a lesson)
Coming back a month later to say: I’ve watched the entirety of a new wish and I have to say, it’s written better than the OG series I grew up with. Seeing Wanda not be used as a metaphorical punching bag for Butch Hartman’s misogyny anymore is so nice to see. Like them in love felt so healing to watch, and Hazel is adorable! I have to say tho, Peri’s redesign is so good- they had no right making him so gorgeous lmao
A new wish : **points at the FOP show** that's the lore and show we're continuing Nickelodeon : yep! A new wish : **points at season 0 Cosmo & Wanda** and that's the characters we're continuing Nickelodeon : well uh...

This reminds me of my friend’s son
It makes a lot of sense, though. Godparents can't risk being found out, or they go away forever, and they don't often get the chance to interact with other fairies. So, being constantly stuck with one person in a stressful situation is going to cause conflict
I saw a bit of the first episode and saw Cosmo and Wanda disguised as and interacting with regular adults. This. They need more of this in their lives. Socializing beyond each other.

One early Saturday morning, Wanda watches over Timmy, whispering to Cosmo in the fishbowl:
Wanda: "Hey, sweetie, you ever feel like something has been off for a while? I know we're immortal, but this year in particular has felt REALLY long. Amd Timmy, we teach him a lesson, but it never seems to stick. It just feels like we're... I don't know, maybe I'm-"
Cosmo, vacantly staring for the past 3 hours at the bedroom wall: "Stop nagging me! Every day I wake up and I hear your voice... like you've been complaining about me and Timmy since... Wands and wings, how long has it been?"
"Cosmo? Are you okay?"
"My wand... something is wrong with my wand. It's tainted..."
"Maybe you should go back in the castle and lie down."
"No, Timmy's waking up! He's gonna make a big fun wish today!... He ALWAYS does..."
Cosmo and Wanda had a perfect character dynamic right away, "We're two halves of a whole idiot". And it was downhill from there.

If that misogynist didn’t have a hand in how the girls/women are portrayed in fairly odd parents, it would have been a cool redeeming quality of Vicky if she was written to be mean to everyone but her sister.
That was actually canon in the Oh Yeah! shorts.

Fairy Godchildren blanking out and losing a lot of their memories darkly makes sense in the FOP universe. Adults with traumatizing childhoods irl have a harder time recalling their childhood memories due to psychological repression. In FOP, since fairies are given specifically to troubled children, this traumatic amnesia could be explained by having their fantastical memories of fairies completely wiped out with little to replace them.

i say thats untrue ill defend timmy
After watching I've come to the conclusion that Cosmo and Wanda's marriage wasn't strained because they grew apart, it was strained *PURELY BECAUSE OF TIMMY.*
They started happy because Timmy was a fresh face, a new start, so to speak.
That... makes so much sense omg
Well ... No wonder why there is an episode that revells that everyone's life is better whitout Timmy ( Wich kinda sucks and is one of the most hated episodes but ... If you look closely on all the selfish actions that Timmy does along the series ... Yah i Just don't know how to end this so ... Yuh)

Timmy is gonna be asked by his son, "What was it like for you in high school?" And Timmy is gonna stare blankly at a wall. "I... I don't remember."
Very Cow and Chicken-esque

No bc his brain couldn't develop in his 10yo body.
She's also based on a pretty cool marvel comic character so double win
none of those shows suck tho maybe ur just a negative person inherently but each of those shows have their own unique endearing charm and theres a reason they have all done very well
theyre probably just misunderstood and u judged them after an episode without actually watching those shows in their entirety and giving them a fair chance
raven's home isnt over its also getting a spin off
sydney to the max was also a black show well half black show with good messages
Ain't no way i heard Cosmo call Wanda "pookie" 💀
I love how Athena always seems like genuinely excited to be talking about stuff, like she’s always excited we’re here listening to her and even excited at the end because she’ll see us next time, like damn. I like feeling appreciated like this!
“Often when you see pink and green together you’ll think cosmo and wan-“
My ass: SPLATOONSPLATOONSPLATOON SQUIDSQUIDSQUID
"You're a squid, you're a kid now!"
"But, Timmy, I'm a fairy--"
"I WISH YOU WERE A SQUID."
(poof)
Who knew fairies had such a crazy dynamic
I like how Timmy is an actual contender for worst godchildren of Cosmo and Wanda, after that 50 years time freeze he got on the same level if not worse than Maryann (the kid that started ww1).
Starting World War 1, the legacy of which led to the second war? Versus stopping time for fifty years? Yeah, kinda evens out.
34:02 I didn’t know that there was a new fairly odd parents- but I a new wish seems like a great show- like Cosmo and Wanda being happy together? What they really needed 😭💖
Congrats on 200K! It’s great to see how far your channel has come since your Wordgirl video. Here’s to another 200K down the line!!! 🎉
Thank you so so much for all your support!!! 🥹 200k feels UNREAL
I keep thinking Athena has way more subscribers than that 😅
Atleast 600k.
i found cosmo and wanda's flanderization coming from a mix of the creators and writers' own weird feelings about women (they're all nags) and marriage (hur hur the ball and chain) and 00s humor. like, the 00s were such an abysmal period for comedy with the punchline always being something hateful, so it made sense to me for a while to see fop as another victim of that since a lot of it got pretty mean spirited as it carried on past the "good" seasons. it's a relief that they're back to being sweet and goofy with each other in new wish, and kinda wonder if that's also a sign of the time since millennials and younger appear to have some healthier attitudes about relationships compared to older generations that had a gorilla grip on the concept/unfunny observation of marriage or just having a long term partner as the worst thing that can happen to you/the end of having a fun, fulfilling life
HELP the butch hartman jumpscare
I like to imagine Timmy stressed Cosmo and Wanda out so much it ruined their marriage
9:10 okay Amanda, I was ready to sit down and watch a video of Cosmo and Wanda's marriage and how it's gradually regressed to blatant stereotypes until a New Wish, what I was NOT expecting to hear was emotional incest
Athena said "1998" without saying "when I was born" WHO ARE YOU
HAHAHAHA I literally had a take where I said that and I was like shut up they know and recorded it again cant believe you caught that 🤣
I feel like the reboot scenes where Cosmo and Wanda talk about "the Timmy days" is a reference to how these characters were confined to bad writing when they were under Butch Hartman
In Cosmo's defence,he is portrayed as a mama's boy. He's very easily influenced. So it's not a shock his mum could convince him to be okay with the situation. Plus, cookies! Who doesn't like cookies?
does being a “mama’s boy” also cause you to immediately romantically interact with other women while being married
@@strawberryjam7902 If he's influenced into doing it,I'd imagine so.
@@satsujin-shathewitchkingof6185 I feel like that’s not something you can be “influenced” to do, parents don’t make you emotionally cheat
@@strawberryjam7902 He was being cookies! Probably being told "it's okay,it's good, you're doing nothing wrong". We only see him after he's been there a while, maybe be was reluctant at first and broke down over time? Who's to say.
@@satsujin-shathewitchkingof6185 looks like a lot of assumptions have to be made for that to be true 😭
It's so weird how Cosmo and Wanda are either one of the cutest cartoon couples or the most toxic, there's no in-between. I'm very glad they sorted things out. At their best they rival Bob and Linda Belcher and post AT finale Marcy and PB in terms of cuteness.
Poor Cosmo and Wanda, I wish green and pink where real colors :(
Is quietly waiting for Athena to do “Little Einsteins” Lore…
Ooh, that's actually not a bad idea!
@BellaGirl999
green isn’t real
It’s an illusion
It’ll never be a creative color (/ref)
Because creativity must exist on a plain
But to whom the plain does not exist
Neither does the wonders of the mind
Stuck in one dimension eternally
Maybe Mama Cosma always hovers and "over-protective" towards Cosmo could be that she doesn't see her other son, Schnozmo (as often as Cosmo) and possibly her husband left her and/or died after he was turned into a fly by Cosmo as a baby (when got his first wand)
Most chaotic marriage couple , no one can tell me otherwise 😃
The way the new show just brought back Poof (Peri hello??) makes me desperate for an update/mini video on that series because I need to know what you think of his glow up and I need to know it now.
9:59 looking back at this show makes me realize how much I can see the misogyny of the writing affecting Wanda- she does so much honestly like 😭
Yk what, I’m gonna say it. They should have kept the dynamic Cosmo and Wanda had in the Oh Yeah cartoon shorts. I loved the dynamic and their characterizations. Not that I fully hate the new ones, but still I just want that dynamic with them.
Thank you for introducing me to the concept of “emotional incest”. Now I know how to label some toxic ass relationships around me.
16:44 I think it might just be Wanda having trouble difficultly processing grief or sorrow, anger is easier to externalize
The twinkification of Cosmo goes crazy
In terms of them in the 70s I didn’t interpret it as jealousy I interpreted it at her being upset that their relationship isn’t what it used to be
Dunno if you’ve mentioned it but at least for me, the biggest difference between the shorts and show is that in the Oh Yeah shorts, Timmy was originally voiced by Mary Kay Bergman, but was replaced and redubbed by Tara Strong following Bergman’s passing. Tbh, I prefer Bergman’s take on Timmy over Tara’s.
Same here. Mary Kay Bergman could pass for sounding like a boy in those shorts.
How could you forget episode "cosmonopoly" . An entire episode is devoted to their dating-level relationship
19:18 SO THAT'S WHY KIDS WITH TRAUMA CAN NEVER SEEM TO REMEMBER THEIR CHILDHOODS
I think there is a simple reason for all that.
Cosmo and Wanda loved Timmy more than they loved eachother...
And they didn't even realised it lol
And they still do care about him they bring him up sometimes and have pictures they just needed a break after timmy no longer needed them
I like the idea of Cosmo being incompetent but honestly trying.
Cosmo got his adhd diagnosis and Wanda got her autism diagnosis
IT’S THE ONE WE’VE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR!
Damn so whenever the two of them get with literally any other godchild, their marriage improves exponentially, I guess it’s a wishful life was correct, everyone would be much better if Timmy was never around
I still wonder where Poof is though. Since he’s Cosmo and Wanda’s very first child.
@@FeligamiAdrizoeSworaDooplivianwatch season ten and find out
@@madnessarcade7447I’ve watched Certifiable super sitter before. Also Poof didn’t have his normal speaking voice for some reason. Which bothered me.
@@FeligamiAdrizoeSworaDooplivian So lemme tell ya about Peri... :P
