Like he'll just randomly remember something Jimmy or Carl told him that helps save the day or give an inspirational speech that's clearly dialogue from Ultralord and there is a momment where he feels like something important has been forgotten but he brushes it off because that's just Sheen. You could even have an episode where he hits his head amd it looks like he's going to get his memories back but instead he thinks he is the real Ultralord and it's kind of a Buzz Lightyear situation. Would have been interesting, at least.

I just took a brief, 15-minute nap where I had a dream where we got an edgy grimdark version of Jimmy Nutron where they were all in high-school and hated eachother and I woke up in a cold sweat, opened RUclips, and immediately saw this on my feed.
wait a minute.... an edgy version of a beloved children's show, where the main cast are all in high school, and hate each other??? dude that's just HBO Max's Velma lmao. 💀
Both Stephanie and Sportacus are considered the main protagonists by the show, but I feel Stephanie is a bit more of a main character. Sportacus is meant to be the responsible and healthy counter to the irresponsible, evil, and unhealthy Robbie Rotten. Sportacus was losing before Stephanie made it there. With Stephanie moving to the town, Stephanie sees firsthand what's wrong with the town, and encourages exercise, which further promotes Sportacus's agenda. So with Stephanie now on Sportacus's side, it's two against one. Stephanie is meant to be the "I'm a kid just like you, and I want you to be more like me!" relatable character.
I have a fan theory that this whole spin-off happened when Sheen got into Jimmy's Lab, and--rather than get into a rocket--he gets into Jimmy's chemistry set and was tripping out the entire time.
Danny Phantom fans : yeah…( at the very least our fandom is still insanely active to the point where it’s baffling based on how long ago it aired lol, hope the jimmy neutron fanbase gets more of a footing thanks to Athena’s lovely videos on it though!
tbh in retrospect, a show about a foreigner showing up and taking command of an indigenous population with his “superior intelligence” probably would’ve gone over about as well as what we did get.
One of the jokes from the show I still reference to this day is when Sheen was trying to make a 'milkshake maker' to get a milkshake. "How do I make a milkshake maker...Wait, if I reverse engineer the process and start off with a milkshake, then I wouldn't even need a milkshake maker because I already have a milkshake to begin with!" It made me chuckle just paraphrasing. Also that one scene where Sheen was very meticulously explaining how he brushed his teeth to the court made my father laugh like a madman for some reason, not sure why.
This is should be actually happened in the final episode of Planet Sheen, where Jimmy and friends rescuing Sheen, fighting against Dorkus and Sheen eventually remembering everything before he landed on Zeenu. Admits that landing on Zeenu was a mistake, he feels sorry for mistreating Mr. Nesmith, lied for Zeenunians and eventually lands home. The End. By one proper ending would be saved the Jimmy Neutron franchise and have more sense.
This video is absolutely enriching, I fucking love it, but I immediately got blindsided by hearing that Nick genuinely said "We don't do shows centered around an adult main character" as though the poster child for their company isn't a whole ass adult with a full time job. Nickelodeon fell for the Minorbob Childpants propaganda, I never thought I'd see the day. Regardless, as someone who only heard about Planet Sheen secondhand, seeing it explored in depth like this is...fascinating because the show certainly looks like a Choice that Nickelodeon made.
The last episode of the series, "Banana Quest" ended with Sheen ending up with a cold after he went on quest to find a banana for Nesmith. This in my opinion is a very big cliffhanger that not only will Sheen be stuck on Zeenu, but he will also REMAIN SICK!
Note-one of the main theories I've seen on the show is that the Sheen in this is a Sheen Clone made with Jimmy's clone tech, who's even dumber than the real sheen
It would explain why he doesnt have that much of an attachment to earth or his relationships there. Also explains why Jimmy never bothered to go after him
I hope you enjoy Dinosaur Train. I was a bit too old for it when it came out, but my little brothers liked to watch it and that meant that I would watch it since I was often watching my brothers while my parents were busy. And to my shock, Dinosaur Train was kinda cute and wholesome. From what I can remember at least.
@@mybodyisamachine It's a show about a young T-rex and his adopted Pteranodon family who constantly ride a time traveling locomotive so they can learn about the different dinosaurs that lived throughout the different prehistoric eras.
Funny enough, a small while ago, Rob Paulsen (VA for Carl & Doppy) did a podcast in-character as Carl and "confirmed" that Sheen never went to space... but he has been to juvey.
You did a great job of articulating why Planet Sheen didn't live up to anyone's expectations. I tried watching it when it first aired, didn't quite grasp why I hated it so much, then didn't look at it again until now. No wonder the show still lingered with discomfort in my brain 😵💫

This was a fever dream from my childhood. On a tangentially-related note, would you please consider reviewing Lazytown in this series? I think you would get a kick out of it!
I think Jimmy had been watching the planet for a while in hopes to conquer his first world, but Sheen accidentally saves them by getting rid of the rocket.
"Truthfully, I wanted to see if I could get away with pretending the series didn't exist, but I could not" Athena really said *"There is no Planet Sheen in Ba Sing Se."* ...yeah they made the show worse by not letting Carl tag along. My canon is they said no to Carl because when they think of Carl, they think of his love for Jimmy's mom, and while yes it was weird, that's what made Carl a funny character because he's not meant to be taken seriously. I agree that if they let them do a Carl-esque character like Doppy and even bring back Carl's voice actor (Rob Paulsen), they might as well have let them have the real Carl! And I'm glad someone else hated that princess because listening to her was always pain. If anything, this show made me mourn DNA Productions' death in 2006 even more, because it's just not the same chemistry that they created with Jimmy Neutron
truth be told, they shouldn’t have given a spin off to either carl or sheen have a spin off. they’re too much of comic relief characters to carry a show on their own, a spin off starring libby or hell even nick and having a more grounded in reality show about teenage life, crazy adventures and even show some of the old characters from the old show would’ve been more welcomed.
The fish with the glowing bulb from finding Nemo is actually called an angler fish. They are real, they live in the deep sea. That glowing bulb is to attract prey I believe. Angler fish actually arnt that big, they looked super huge and scary in finding Nemo. The deep sea is like another planet, it is awesome. Hey they probably got inspiration from the angler fish
About what you said at the beginning, you could technically say there’s 3 shows with an adult main character, if you wanna consider SpongeBob as an adult. His age is debatable but there’s many hints that he’s not a kid.
I'd say it's not debatable whatsoever, he explicitly lives completely independently from his parents, doesn't go to primary school, and has a career Plus, there were way more than 3 closer to the time Planet Sheen started, like T.U.F.F. Puppy, Back at the Barnyard, and Robot and Monster
One thing you didn't mention about the Emperor and his people is how he addresses them. Whenever he addresses the masses its "People of Xinu... And Oom." Something even Sheen does. Apparently she's not considered a member of their people (?) Idk this always stuck with me
Why didn't they go with Nesmith as the main character? if the network didn't want an adult human as The MC, wouldn't the next logical step be a space chimp? I know the movie literally named Space Chimps likely came out around the same time (please tell me whether or not that's accurate) but it's not like the studio behind it could really do anything against Nickelodeon
Space Chimps the movie came out in 2008, Planet Sheen in 2010, so fairly close. Honestly I think it was an idea that could've worked without anyone getting in a spiff about stealing ideas.
I think nicks thing is that the main character needs to be a child or child like. That’s why SpongeBob got a pass to be a main character even though he is an adult with a job. Nesmith is way too reasonable to be a good Nickelodeon MC, it might’ve worked for another network though.
nesmith could’ve worked, but for me libby or nick would’ve been better for spin off. just a normal, grounded show about middle school life or something, with the adventures and shenanigans of the og show still in there too. and if you look at the majority of jimmy neutron fanfics, most of them have the same plot i have just given so most fans would’ve preferred it like that
I hope your sanity is still intact after this, but on the plus side (as someone who grew up with dinosaur train) Dinosaur Train is significantly less dark, more cohesive, and I have no memory of cute creatures getting hurt/eaten. Plus it has a really sweet adoptive family side plot that runs alongside the education plot
i genuinely thought this show had like 5 seasons or something with how much i watched it when it was on and how it haunts me. i'm very surprised to learn there was only a 26 episode season
Oom is 17. Let that sink in harder. It'll make your skin crawl. Even worse is that in one epiosde, it's shown that her tongue is attached to her heart.
technically stephanie is the main character of lazytown, but i wholeheartedly feel that sportacus and robbie rotten stole the show (rip stefan 💔 still miss u villain #1) (source is that lazytown was a Main special interest of mine for about four years)
There was an episode I vaguely remember where Sheen and Doppy are talking, and I THINK Doppy revealed he actually was Carl the whole time. While Sheen and Carl were playing on Earth he accidentally launched Carl into the air where he got hit by a plane but survived, and after that flashback Doppy explains how he mutated into what he is now.
To my knowledge this isn't really in the show, but there's an episode of Rob Paulsen's podcast where he (As Carl) says that Doppy is actually Carl in an alien costume sent by Jimmy to keep an eye on him.
The whole "we don't really make shows following an adult main character" thing is funny because Dag and Norb in The Angry Bevers were both 18 when the series started and 24 when it ended. Did they forget the series existed?
6:28 I agree with you this is a problem I have with a lot of spin offs. The characters don't mention there love ones or friends. It's a cliche that I really hate and I feel like it's the writers trying to establish there own story... But Shene not even talking about ultra lord is a good example of chattering the cannon
I really enjoyed your theory on when Planet Sheen takes place. Another small detail I was thinking about was the fact that Jimmy was building another rocket, but, why?Jimmy has already solved and created his own space travel. Which, until he wins a space ship in that game show, was how the Neutron gang got around the galaxy. So yeah, what if the rocket Sheen takes is made from parts and pieces of the Yolkian ship that the kids take at the end of the movie, which is why when Sheen presses the button it essentially fails leading to the start of the spin-off series. It fails cause Jimmy hasn't finessed space travel yet.
I forgot how insane this series was. I’d only ever watch it when I was younger if there was NOTHING else on, and afterwards I just blocked the memories of the episodes out. It was good to see the show again through the hilarious and informative lens of Athena though!
I feel like Planet Sheen was created as a more "kid-friendly" spinoff of Jimmy Neutron. Not because it was kid friendly by any means, but Jimmy Neutron seemed more of a mature show by comparison. I'm not sure, this is like old memories driving my thought process
You should cover “the secret show” It’s about 2 spies who go on different adventures in different whacky ways. It was like totally spies(because it was also released in the early 2000’s) meets inspector gadget(except their not robots, but the female spy is a mermaid.(yes this was a real thing in the show) and the other spy impersonated an alien when he and the mermaid spy lady went to space.) I feel like there is A-LOT to cover when talking about this show.
OMG YES The Secret Show! I swear nobody ever talks about it but I loved that show as a kid! I don't remember the mermaid thing, but hey, it's been awhile, must have forgotten.
I remember an episode of Jimmy Neutron where Sheen said he "sabatogued [his] highly scientific mind with sugar and cartoons" because being smart was too hard. Also when Jimmy, Carl, and Sheen's brains are shown, his is average-sized. I think Sheen is actually intelligent, but suffers from untreated neurodivergency and self-doubt.
I recall a theroy that Sheen is a clone and thats why Jimmy left the messages and why no one has come to rescue him. Also I can't wait for Dinosaur Train I love that show.
think it would've been better (and more in tone with the wacky show it wanted to be) if the joke was that everyone hated the licking, except for Sheen. He loves it and everyone else is freaked out by it and can't understand it.
I could barely get through one episode. How you managed to get through 26 without wanting to pull your hair out is beyond me but this is a good video so I applaud you
My theory is that Planet Sheen never happened and is just a story written by Sheen. Sheen is the kind of character who would write himself as the main hero, write "Carl" in as a side character slug, and replace Jimmy with a talking monkey. Obviously, he'd write it so that the princess is in love with him and include a hot alien babe as a love interest. Everything in the series that doesn't make sense is just Sheen, as an author, being Sheen.
I'm really excited for a Dinosaur Train review. That and Wild Kratts and Word Girl were my entire childhood basically since all I had was PBS (: I still watch them sometimes for the nostalgia
I think one of the main reasons that spin off shows about side characters fail, it's because showrunners don't realize that sometimes side characters only are effective as side characters; they become annoying or too much if they are made the focus. Specially with Sheen, he works better in small doses like in Jimmy Neutron. Example: Kronk in the Emperor's New Groove movies.
shows about side characters can work, look at better call saul for an example of that, it depends on the character’s personality. if they’re a comic relief then god no, but if they’re a grounded character it can work. i for one believed a spin off starring libby could’ve worked if they just gave it a chance
@@cosmic_heartz6480 i still stand by the theory that with comic relief most of the time it just can't work, all hail king julian was average tbh imo and i prefered him in penguins when he was used in a reduced role as well.
I'm sorry, but you Kronk isn't the embodiment of perfection sent by God himself in order to save the human race from Yizma? How could someone think something so blasphemous?!
Imagine in the revival of Jimmy Neutron opens with Sheen crashing a ship in a way that Jimmy and Carl don’t notice and he is just back on Earth and no time has passed cause time on the other planet works differently and Sheen just thinks it was a dream or he tries to tell people and they think he was dreaming it and that makes Sheen think he dreamt it
I never actually watched this show so thank you for giving me all the exposure I need to it. Love the idea that this took place between the Jimmy Neutron movie and the Jimmy Neutron series.
Imagine if you will, we do end up getting the Jimmy Neutron reboot. And the first episode two are just the gang going to reenact your vision of a finale. Thus giving this spinoff a bit of closure while also reintroducing Sheen to the cast On a semi related note I've seen theories that the whole setup in the first episode was intentional on Jimmy's part, and given what we know about Jimmy at this stage it would make total sense that has conducting an experiment of some kind. Why else would Jimmy overtly put notes telling Sheen of all people NOT to do something? An act that would most definitely draw Sheen's attention? There's other theories floating around like this Sheen is actually a clone and this was the nicest way to get rid of the clone since they found the clone very obnoxious or something else entirely. At the end of the day this show is weird
Man, that show is crazy old. If I remember correctly, there was a little red guy that was angry all the time and shouted a lot? As a kid I just saw him as discount Invader Zim lmao
I feel like the idea was originally meant to be "Uum has two sides. Her normal face is her rational and critical thinking, and her other face is the embodiment of all of her Intrusive thoughts." So if Uum gave Sheen a Rafenhoffer (No clue if I spelled my right) it was probably initially meant to be the Intrusive thoughts that would do it. But the creators ended up giving up and giving Uum nothing BUT intrusive thoughts.
@@billybarnett9518 I think it would have been better if Oom had a bad habit of giving into the face that is her intrusive thoughts (either through her upbringing and her dad being a numbskull, or Sheen just naturally brings those intrusive thoughts out of Oom by his sheer stupid). And the rational Oom felt bad for it afterwards. Or maybe Oom figures a different less....raffenhoffery way to show her affection towards Sheen. I just think the writing for Oom as a whole character is just flawed and felt like something was horrendously missing and got left on the cutting room floor.
@@ermacmacro7136 I agree, but I also think it would've been funny if Sheen liked her back and wanted raffenhoffers, and everyone else would think he's weird and be disgusted by it. They'd all be like "Why? How?!", it could even confuse Dorkus.
The only thing I remember from this show is the gag where they're having a party and the emperor walks up to Sheen. He says, "Thank you for showing us chips and dip, until now, we've been eating dips and chip!" and he holds up this massive ball of guacamole the size of his entire body balancing on a single tortilla chip. Good times.
I am so excited for the Dinosaur Train lore video, mainly because of one scene where a few dinosaurs are shown eating dinosaur meat, implying that murder is sometimes considered okay in that world
As for the between-series approach for Planet Sheen, I like that reading. Sheen thinks he's in Space Camp. He's even dressed like he's in Space Camp. Why he doesn't mention Ultra Lord? It's the earliest era of his hyperfixation. He only develops more interest in Ultra Lord a f t e r he got praised by the aliens, but projects it onto his favorite series to avoid suspicion.
6:51 if carl went with him and there was a scene where he wasn’t allergic to the planet at all and they had a heartfelt discussion about it, it might make sense for sheen to want to stay
Proving that if anyone should have gotten a spin-off was Jimmy's Mom. She's always getting hypnotized 😵💫 so could have had these two 10 min segments that is a mix of Captain Underpants x Mr Bean. Would say Hugh but dialing him to eleven for prolonged periods of time would annoy eventually while with Mrs Neutron the hypno running gag would allow you to have her be wild and out there and based in some rationalities.
for me it’s libby or nick, having a show similar to as told by ginger but in the jimmy neutron style too with the crazy adventures. maturity was more jimmy neutron’s thing and i feel a spin off staring ppl like hugh would’ve been too silly
@@aurahoneydew9607 i would say it was mature, yhhh not like mature in the same way adventure time is, but the characters do grow and change a lot in comparison to how they were like at the start of s1 to the end of s3. i feel like it could’ve worked starring libby or nick, but also inserting the crazy adventures of the old show too with jimmy and the gang

"Jimmy and friends rescuing Sheen" actually was a movie that was going to happen. I really wish we got it :(
it prolly could’ve led to a jimmy neutron revival, depressing when you think deep about it.
That was probably a gag for ending sick episodes during then. Not that I know. I'm just guessing.

About what you said at the beginning, you could technically say there’s 3 shows with an adult main character, if you wanna consider SpongeBob as an adult. His age is debatable but there’s many hints that he’s not a kid.
I definitely view him as an adult I think I just overlooked him because he isn’t a human 😅
I'd say it's not debatable whatsoever, he explicitly lives completely independently from his parents, doesn't go to primary school, and has a career
Plus, there were way more than 3 closer to the time Planet Sheen started, like T.U.F.F. Puppy, Back at the Barnyard, and Robot and Monster
I guessing they meant no human adults cuz CatDog and Rocko are also adults
@@Giran_0 actually come to think of it, I can't think of many children's cartoons that have adult humans as protagonists

4:18 Still can’t believe she replaced our Queen Libby!
not only did she replace her as a love interest, but they also stole libby the spin off she should’ve deserved lol!

Nope--I remember the scene, that flashback was just Sheen noticing how similar Carl and Doppy looked.

Weird 3d animated nick shows made my childhood just a little more scary. Planet Sheen was one of them.
@@ogome2927 even then sometimes the comic relief character having a spinoff can work in some capacity ( ie all hail king julian )

Imagine if you will, we do end up getting the Jimmy Neutron reboot. And the first episode two are just the gang going to reenact your vision of a finale. Thus giving this spinoff a bit of closure while also reintroducing Sheen to the cast
On a semi related note I've seen theories that the whole setup in the first episode was intentional on Jimmy's part, and given what we know about Jimmy at this stage it would make total sense that has conducting an experiment of some kind.
At the end of the day this show is weird
the clone theory or the dream theory are the only two that makes sense to me tbh
