During my freshman year (last year), I was a biology major and was pushed to take 18 credits a semester to be able to finish a year faster so I could get into med school at a young age and become a doctor at a younger age as well. Well, I don't want to say I hated the biology courses or chemistry courses, but I just couldn't see myself taking on that much work for 3 more years and then med school. It wasn't something my heart was adapting to, even though I told myself that in order to become an E.R doctor, this is what i had to do. Like it or not. So i finished the year as a Biology major but then at the end of freshman year, I switched to nursing. I was SO scared to tell my dad because he looked at it as, "I knew you couldn't do it." I did plenty of research in to the field and realized that I do really like medicine, but I love that nurses are more present with their patient. They make a different connection and thus, i decided that i wanted to become a Nurse Practitioner.. in the Emergency Room. Just thinking about my switch makes me smile because I know that the road will be long, but I'm no longer dreading the journey.
I've known I wanted to be a psych major ever since grade nine. When I started getting negative reactions I was really confused. I never knew that psych had that kind of reputation for some people. To me psych is sooooo interesting. I still don't understand how people can have such negative opinions even if they're not as interested in it.
Ashley LeBlanc for real! i was born with a curious mind, but i wasn't allowed to be curious, so i acted normal and not interest. But now I show it. I think the part where you say you don't understand how people have negative opinons even when they're not interested. you'll learn it in pyschology. :) im glad i have someone who totally interested in it!
Ashley LeBlanc Because its an easy subject to learn in comparison to other subjects like stem. And there's not very many jobs that become available with it either. Especially if you only have a bachelors. That's just the truth, sorry. Not all subjects are created equal in terms of rigor and marketability. That's why people have different assumptions about them. And just because something is interesting doesn't mean that you have to spend 100,000-150,000 on it.
Lol, that part about choosing a major that you like speaks to me because I chose to take AP Calculus because I hated math but wanted desperately to enjoy it. So I went into science where none of my friends bacteria and lifeless pieces of DNA don't judge me :D
...um yes. You have to talk to people in nearly every profession lol. People always assume that being a psych major leads to being a psychologist or psychiatrist, but those professions only count for a small amount of us.

Just from observations on most of your videos, you have the most beautiful and intricate nail colors and designs. Your makeup is so pretty as well. I can honestly say that you are a great help for my college concerns since I'm starting in one year and I'm planning ahead. I'm going to major in clinical pediatric pharmacy and I'm really excited because there is a great program for it at the university I'm going to go to and this degree in my opinion will be much less draining and nerve racking
You're not alone. I really like psych, but I still have no idea what I'm going to do with my degree. Don't worry though, getting an education is really important, at least in my opinion it is!

i wanna be a psch major and possibly minor or double major in something else, but everyone tells me i'm basically gonna be poor if i decide on that. and well i know that and i know if you really wanna do well you have to get your masters or higher. i always tell people i know i can just stop right after my bachelor's, but they always tell me the same thing. it's so discouraging. i feel like i need to change what i might wanna major in, but i don't really have other interests

my biggest problem is that I was so dedicated in pursuing a certain career choice that I wanted in high school so I took alllll the right classes.. now I want to be something different but can't do what I want because I never took the correct classes. It really sucks because I can basically only go to school for limited things & they all involve social worker, child & youth worker, personal support worker, etc.
I want to major in chemistry to create medicine, but it's supposed to be math intensive. In my algebra II class, I passed maybe three tests out of twenty. I love science but I may become a linguistics major if I fail out of math.
I'm taking a biological anthropology class and I like it a lot! I'm going to hopefully try to take a cultural anthropology class this summer, and I also took intro to psych and I liked it as well and am planning to also take a 4 week developmental psych class this summer too. I've taken all the classes needed for my major in child development but idk if I want to teach or work in a child care/preschool setting now.
I'm planning on doing anthropology as in the broad topic cause I want to be a forensic anthropologist, and I double majoring in something else so I can be a cryptologist. I'm in grade nine so I have plenty of time to choose
You should also choose a major based on the jobs you will get afterwards. I'm not saying you don't know what jobs you want to get with your degree, but you did not mention it in the video. It is harder to find a job as a psych major because there is not a demand for them because the supply is so high. You can do market research for companies w/ that degree but there are already marketing majors for that. You should join clubs on campus and get internships before you graduate. College senior
I was thinking of doing architecture since I like art and design but then I googled it and found that most of the architecture students regret doing it coz u have to put a lot of work into it and in the end it's not worth it unless you're really passionate abt it. I'm not sure if my passion for architecture is that strong to get me thru the school. I was so sure about it at first but now I'm just so stressed out coz I might want to do something else but I have no idea what. I wanna die.

Like we had to give a speech Infront of the whole 9th and 10th grade at the beginning of the semester and see how many people voted for you. For me it was a little humiliating when I saw I only had 150 votes or so bc the president had 400... AND THEY DIDNT TAKE IT DOWN FOR A WHOLE YEAr it's like they want me to feel bad and not have friends.
I'm in 9th grade and in my school you're pressured so hard for college even tho at the beginning of the semester the school gives a speech about not letting pressure get to you:/ I mean seriously, I bet you 9 out of 10 clubs in my school is created for college credits. At least that's why I created my club since I have no other talent. *signs* maybe it's bc I go to an international school in Shanghai.. Like 2 years ago this girl in our school got into 7 ivy leagues and the school basically paraded her around and made all the other kids feel like shit. They make you do crazy things to get into an AP course like get above 95 in 4 major tests & do 2 move up tests to see if ur qualified. idk I'm just curious does anyone else go to a school like this?

Don't go for something that makes money. And psychiatry is a mentally-demanding career that a person would not be able to achieve unless they have the sincere drive and passion to. Specially if that drive and passion belong to a different field, which for you is theatre. Instead, go for something that you love and THEN find a way to make money off of it. :)

At my university we pay tuition not based on how many classes/units we take. If we drop a class, we still pay the same amount.
