I do an altered Pomodoro technique. For classes like biology that have a lot of information I leave out my book and flip it to the first page. I sit down and look through the chapter to understand the structure of the chapter. Then I stop for about 30-60 minutes or until I feel like I'm ready to focus. I come back later and I take short notes until I feel like I'm starting to loose focus or only read words. I continue to do this until the chapter is done. Then I rewrite my notes over and over while watching tv or roaming youtube. Once they are perfect I organize them in my class binder (have a table of contents for your notes! It REALLY helps the day before the test!) then I reread the chapter at a comfortable pace. This sounds like it takes a lot of time, but it is INCREDIBLE how much it helps! (I may start a channel dedicated to how to study). Also, when you take notes in class write those on a different paper! Teachers/professors add in extra information and tell you what will be on the test! I read before class so that the class time is just a review of what I've already learned and I can use it to ask questions and fully understand the subject. You retain more when you are listening and getting involved, not when you are rushing to scribble notes to get the lecture in your notes verbatim!

I write my notes in different colors too. It is very very helpful. It allows your eyes to focus only on one color rather than being overwhelmed by a page full of black pen.

Totally. I take my notes in class real sloppy because I always have professors who cover a lot in lecture and they go fast, but when I get home I re-copy them neatly and with different colors. My husband thinks its crazy and a waste of time, but it really does work. Im an alcohol and drug counseling major, so there's always a lot to memorize.

I love that you use one direction notebooks! I just bought one today for my freshman seminar class this quarter ^.^ it makes me happier studying when I have cuties to cheer me on hehe
One thing I found to be effective is after you study at night, stay away from social media afterwards before going to bed.
I feel ya on that one. That's a good way of looking at it! But yeah, it doesn't feel worth the drive sometimes lol.
Also, it helps to study the same material in different places. For example, just studying in different rooms in your house. It's supposed to help you remember information better.

I live off campus this year too and its a lot harder to motivate myself to go on campus just for a 50 minute class... BUT I MUST. SCHOOL IS EXPENSIVE :( I just motivate myself by thinking of how much money I'm wasting by not going to class. It kind of helps lol
