I wanna thank you for doing these, I’ve been playing the games in the series I haven’t beaten yet, and I always get to the final boss and watch your videos BEFORE I go into the boss room. As like a sort of recap, It has allowed me to throughly ingrain myself into the story and world before I finish the amazing games :)
The fantasy genre of the 80s crossed over into sci-fi, fallen high tech dystopia civilisations, and time travel quite often. Ultima 1 had you taken a rocket to the moon, as did FF4.
so incredible that all this plot was a plan by jack garland to train the warriors to be able to defeat darkness, and the real bad guys are the lufenians
Woahhhh bro. Ive played this game since i was like 7 and you just exploded my mind. The Lufenians always struck me weird but yeah, theyre into some sadistic shit
Remember it was a prequel, the first ff1 still doesn't have a story, the first fledged was ff2. They have to completely remake 1 to finish it. Thanks to origins and I'm all for it
Watched 9 first... now going through the whole series. Well done again, sir. I will be sharing this list with anyone I know. Great start. It's going to be an amazing adventure.
Used to give up trying to play the original final fantasy out of frustration until I listened to Blue Ankylo's channel and he outlined much of the theory that went into the game's design, and it finally clicked in my head: FF1 is meant to be an open world exploration game like Dungeons & Dragon, not a strict narrative-driven game like the ones that came after. Essentially I was growing frustrated with the lack of buildup. Now it's honestly one of the funnest and most enjoyable ones to play, and there are elements to it that I wish still existed in modern games, like short, concise text when you talk to NPCs
Just finished SOP, and it made me teared up. Came back here to refresh on the lore, played FF1 the year it came out, so lots were lost through time since. Thanks for putting this together sir.
I originally beat FF1 in Dawn of Souls and again when the Pixel Remaster came out, I am watching this video as I am about to dive into SOP as a refresher!
Final Fantasy needs a remake. I know Strangers of Paradise exists, but I want an original release of this. It would be so cool to this story come to life in beautiful movie cutscenes. Thank you for making this video for us to enjoy.
Strangers in Paradise is an alternative universe prequel to FF1, not a remake. But true. I imagine they do what the 3D remake of FF3 did and give the protagonists of FF1 actual names and backstory
Just beat Final Fantasy IX, I've been making my way through the mainline games since the pixel remaster of 1 first landed on Steam. Was curious to see if anyone did a complete story of FFIX and found this channel... May aswell start at the beginning! Love the presentation and voice.
@@BirdsOfPlay I haven't had any issues with them. People have been complaining about font but from what I know it's changeable with a little file manipulation. It's been like 15 years since I played the 1/2 for GBA and I never played 3 so it all feels like a new experience. Auto battle is wonderful for farming mindlessly with one hand while watching TV. My only gripe with it is they are not graphically different enough and feels like a marathon of the same game just a different chapter if that makes sense.
The epilogue at the end of the game choked me up in FF20th anniversary for the PSP, and it still chokes me up to this day. Why would all those civilizations vanish though? It's not like breaking the chain would wipe them all out.
Been running a D&D campaign based on this story. I have to add alot of dialogue, new locations, and more realistic situations. How do level 2 PC's defeat *the finest swordsman in Cornelia*? They don't. Instead, Garland paralyzes them, finishes a ritual, and goes back in time with the princess(who will be the one who starts the prophecy). I also made it to where my PC's DONT have the crystals because the fiends guard them. The Lich, in fact, uses the Crystal of Earth as its phylactory. My friends have been having such a great time and I've really been enjoying giving them a retelling of FF1, my favorite FF.
Working on it! I already have the script for Final Fantasy II. Looking forward to closing the gap between this video and our Complete Story of Final Fantasy VI video.
Love this video! After playing (and loving the heck out of Stranger of Paradise) I wanted to know more about the story of FFI. Thank you for this amazing video!
So the Four Fiends were created when Garland’s hatred merged with the energy derived from the four elements. He then sent them to the future, but what did he do then? Did he just remain in the past? How would that lead to him living forever?
I wonder what next FF Game Square-Enix will remake next after FF7 Planned Trilogy. I don't mean to add too much worry and stress but I thought that this question is worth the shot of thinking about, even if there's gonna be more new FF Entries like XVII, XVIII, XIX, XX, etc
The game was entitled Final Fantasy because Square Enix (known as Squaresoft/Square at the time) had made several computer games that people just didn't buy. Final Fantasy was their LAST project, if it didn't sell, Square would have shut down as a company. It was, quite literally, their Final Fantasy.
@@argetistalrí SO Final Fantasy was Square Enix's "Final Fantasy" because it was their last idea to test the ultimate fate of them, right? And it sold well, keeping the gaming studio alive. Interesting. I'm keeping that in mind forever
The Pixel Remastered version is basically based off of Origins since the graphics are similar to Dawn of Souls, but you get spell charges up to 9 per level like the NES version of Final Fantasy. Cool.
I've played the first one until I got stuck on some bat boss. It is definitely on my to-do list since I am actively trying to get as good a grasp on the JRPG genre as I possibly can. Aside from playing and replaying Final Fantasy games I am currently playing Grandia for the first time. I'm almost done with it so maybe I should check out an Ys game next.
Almost all of the FF games aren't directly connected. They're separate universes in a shared multiverse, which is how some characters like Gilgamesh can appear in multiple games
Incredible video, FF1 does not get the credit it deserves in regards to creating such an amazing story and paving the way for many games to come. The story may not be as intricate as the later games but for a NES game from 1987 this probably was insane to see at the time.
Boy the comment about Garland once being a respected swordsman sure hits differently in the wake of a certain darker prequel that came out this year that revealed Garland was a man named Jack who was consumed by such an urge to kill Chaos that he became its current embodiment. EDIT: Also, apparently he's still the good guy because he did it to break an endless cycle of suffering. No, I'm not gonna play that game. Well, only if I'm curious.
@@BirdsOfPlay I just finished it, and the storytelling in the game itself is very VERY confusing and it takes the entire game for any semblance of cohesive narrative to come together. Wow, I always thought FF1s story was going to be generic but this is pretty damn good for a game made in 1987. Friggin time travel??
