I enjoyed the riveted jon over the welded jon I once owned.A riveted jon will weigh several hundred pounds less than a welded jon, therefore you can manhandle the riveted jon with ease.
I would where a life jacket and use the kill switch. If you hit some underwater deb-re at 25mph you might go sailing.I got caught in a storm once. I wanted to put on my life jacket and remove my boots. That was not possible because I had to keep the bow pointed into the waves and I had to keep my hand on the tiller to do so.That storm front killed about a dozen boaters in 3 states.

Excellent! Perfect for that boat. I have a lowe1440mod v and I have a 1999 merc 9.9hp and a 1987 merc 20hp . Both 2 bangers obviously. I get 21-22mph with the 9.9 and 29-30 mph with the 20hp. Big difference in hole sgot and ability to move a load. With 2 guys and some gear I get 18mph with the 9.9 and 27mph with the 20.

  • @Stu650Zuk

You can't beat an older 2 stroke small outboard for tin boats. Lightweight compared to new 4 strokes and faster holeshots and top speed and great longevity. OMC or Mercury for me and I've had several 9.9 and 15 of both makes on 14 semi v rowboats and a 1440 flat bottom jon boat...I honestly have more fun on them most times than my fiberglass full size bass boat...A whole lot cheaper to own too!

I had a 14ft alumacraft with a 25hp mariner 2 stroke and it went every bit of 50mph. Had to be careful with it tho cause even if you weighted the front end down she could easily get outta control on you. And I'm talking OUTTA CONTROL LOL. I ended up building a casting deck on the front and man that made all the difference in the world

I have a 1987 Evinrude 15 on a v14 Alumicraft. 75# and it’s a great match. What ever you don’t run it a 100/1 premix. Use 50/1 with Tc 3 two stroke oil. The 50/1 does not foul plugs and helps your motor have your a long life. The 15 is same motor as the 9.9 except for a bigger carb and tuned exhaust from the factory.

  • @webmasterbou8be

I’d love to try my Chrysler 15 HP on a flat bottom Jon boat. 26 mph top speed seems crazy to me! I top out at 19 mph on a soft inflatable 10.8 ft boat by myself and can cruise 15-17 mph with 2-3 people. Maybe my motor isn’t made to go that fast. Or maybe my boat has too much drag.

Cool vid many are the gearheads that think 20 is better than 15 but the extra weight often cancels out the benefit and lowering the aft makes the boat plow rather than flat plane. you may ger five mph more with the 20 perhaps not and that's not even considering the full economy. I like smaller and lighter... short shaft is better and a jack plate will let you surface prop wee!

Just as a tip, don’t put high octane gas in your outboard because it has ethanol in it. Anytime that you can, put 100% gasoline in it. Ethanol will eat up your fuel line over time. The engine may run better with high octane gas for a time but it will become dependent on it and again could damage fuel lines later on. Great video tho overall. Just bought the same motor

Not gunna help UNLESS the heads have been shaved or something to increase compression. If it's not high compression you're wasting the high octane. Just run stock gas.

grate motors my Alumacraft 14/36 has a evenrude 9.9 basickley the 15 tuned down to 10hp and the boat fly's down the river infact i just odored a Suzuki 4hp 4 stroke for using wile cat fishing as the old 2 stroke is way more motor than we need for running trot lines and drop lines ...and the Suzuki 4hp DF4 is a DF6 tuned to simply run at lower rpm than the DF6 so will will have the torque of the 6hp but for $180 less and going threw automartmarine.com i got it shipped direct to my house for $880 but the DF6 would cost $1066 ......and the DF4 will sip fuel and can be used on lakes with clean motor rules ....
