Just a tip you said “these sofas turn in to a bed”. They are seats in English. A Sofa normally seats three or more people, though sometimes two. But a two seater is also called a “love seat” at least in the United States. I’m English not American and can’t remember if the English use the word “love seat” lol 😂.
Another tip, if it helps… with your bread roll you said “I got a refill” in English that’s usually used for beverages, like tea, coffee or soda. Hope this helps. 😎

It would seem to be correct, not a typo. But from what I have seen its not just the train, most deals depart Ueno and return but Shinkansen to Tokyo and include accommodation for one or 2 nights, and some meals. Still not cheap though.
This isn't a regular service, it's a chartered ride for nostalgic train enthusiasts, so without the frequency (economy of scale) of a regular service it costs a lot more to maintain the old carriages in tip-top condition, similar to the Orient Express.

I got to ride this train when it was still running in regular service - I felt very lucky as an American to do that. Really cool to see it running again at all, even just for excursions. The bed actually isn't as big as you think... remember that these rooms can accommodate two people. One person sleeps perpendicular to the window at the back of the room while the other sleeps parallel to it on the side. So you end up banging a lot of heads or feet together during the night because you're sharing one corner. Still was a really fun trip when I took it. They did used to turn the train around somewhere in the middle of the night so that people in the lounge had an unobstructed view out the back. (That meant people in the suite room had the locomotive view for the rest of the trip.)
@@kastandlee Oh no! Was it still attached, or completely missing from the train? (And if it was attached, what would make it "out of service"?) I can't imagine what this train would look like without its rounded ends.
@@ModernClassic The car was completely missing from the train. When we went down to that end of the train looking for the lounge, all we found was a notice in Japanese that my wife (who had learned some Japanese) was unable to puzzle out. It became obvious, though, when a couple of crew members came through the door and all that was behind them was noisy machinery from what I thought was a generator car to power the train services. While we did not get the full experience that we wanted (including the Cassiopeia Suite), we are still very happy that we were able to ride the train as intended, as an overnight sleeper train.
I like your personal style how you describe your travels. Your movies are very interesting and well edited. Japan must be a wonderful country, indeed. Thank you very much!
My wife and I rode this train in regular service Sapporo-Ueno in 2007. I would have been delighted to be able to get the Cassiopeia Suite, but as you said, it's nearly impossible to book. Even the higher-end sleepers at that end of the train were already booked by the time we reserved. (You couldn't reserve them more than 30 days in advance, and only in Japan; that is, we couldn't book them until we arrived in Japan.) We were also traveling on a 3-week JR rail pass, so we only had to pay for the sleeper upgrade and for portions of the travel running over non-JR lines. (The cost was less than what you had to pay for this trip.) Unfortunately, the lounge car was out of service on our trip, which was a shame, as we were really looking forward to seeing the countryside from it. It was still a wonderful trip. It's a shame that there is only the one paired sleeper train left in Japan. I think that if we travel to Japan again, we might be more likely to take ferries for the more relaxed overnight trips. Nice to see you enjoyed the "Haute Cuisine" style lunch. :-) This style is really all about quality food, artistically presented on large plates. The motto is "food needs to be as beautifully presented as it has to be tasty."

That is a BEAUTIFUL train, possibly the most stunning coaches I've ever seen in Japan. And it's loco-hauled! I wouldn't be able to justify the price though, it's almost £1000!! even the shinkansen Gran Class from Tokyo all the way to Aomori costs less than £200, though I do get that is a special tour.

God, I loved your meal. The presentation of each plate was stunning (and seems the food was delicious, according to you!). I think the large plates are used mostly in formal dining. The portions were simply lovely, and each plate brought out to you was magnificently presented (almost like a work of art). The ambience (*chef kiss*). And the music was so appropriate. If I lived in Japan, I'd definitely take a trip on that Luxury Sleeper Train. So worth it.

Great trip. And yes, locomotive Haulage passengers train in Japan, something rare to see in current time. I hope in the future, this train can be resurrected as regular train like Sunrise Express, and running to Hokkaido directly or indirectly (stopped at nearby Ferry port cities and transferred to Ferry to Hokkaido).
It's a shame that the Tokyo to Sapporo night train was retired, I would totally book a ticket right now if it was still in service. Let's hope that, along with the current revival of night trains (especially in Europe), Japan can get some more night trains back into service.
From what I remember from 2018, the shinkansen ran from Tokyo to Hakodate, and we had to change to a local train from there on to Sapporo. I believe it was a narrow-gauge track for that section. There were plans to extend the shinkansen all the way to Sapporo - don't know how that's going.
With Shinkansen and cheap flights there isn’t really room for anything other than luxury trains overnight, which are indeed getting more popular. Cruise-ship style ferries overnight are still common at a low price though. David: Construction to Sapporo continues, will open in 2030.

Gorgeous train. But with the price tag, I'd simply be content with watching this video. So nice though to see Cassiopeia get revived albeit with a different setup
Very nice train, but that ticket-price! Goodness! The food looked good though, and having your own toilet is pretty special. Thanks again for a beautiful trip! Either this year or next, I'll be visiting Japan - taxes hit me hard this year. In a positive way though. 🙂
It's cool that the railroads in Japan cater to train buffs. The room reminded me of Amtrak as well as the cars. I am surprised that the track in Japan is not welded rail. Also, it was nice to see the freight cars. TY for the video. The tickets were too expensive for such a short ride.
I think I saw this train on Shota no Sushi or other TV dramas and felt sad that I couldn’t try it myself. It’s still no chance for me as it’s pricey! Thanks Kuga for ‘taking us on board’ with you 😊
Thank you for the lovely ride. You would think that if they're going to use plates that size, they would put something on them. Not 'Social Distance Salad' and the main meal. Haha! 😅.
Thank you so much for taking me on this beautiful trip. Youre plate is so big because you are eating high quality 5 star. The way the present it, makes it tasted more beautifull. I hope you have great times there. I love orange juce also!
Social distance salad- so funny....I was reading and said out loud "social distancing salad, is that a Japanese thing" -then I looked at the food and started laughing hard and to comment - thanks for the laugh and these videos- I have some health issues and can no longer travel so watching these is almost as good
Excellent presentation. Very good review of Cassiopeia transportation system. Wonderful accommodation, food, sleeper room, enjoyable scenery. Thank you
I see the name and all I think is the 1970s jazz band Casiopea which I first heard of like ten years ago. They're very good if you like late-mid-century Japanese jazz. (I do.)
The style of the food is noval cuisine ,it's like an upper class French style of cooking and plating as there are around 6/7 courses and the portions are small so every course can be eaten without filling up in the first few courses .
19: 13 I would say that the 'pillow thing' is to be used as an armrest, for when the seat is a seat ( as you found it when you first entered the room). It is certainly of no use as a pillow!
The plate is so big, because of trick - same food portion on big plate makes you eat more, because you starts to thing, that this portion is small and you have to eat more :) Very old trick.

The big plate well it makes the food look small so that when you finish and are filled up it fills you with joy
I hope you have some money left over for other trips now. That was quite a haircut you took on that ticket price!
Well Done.
1st class train.
Amtrak is chuggin along while Japanese trains are Smooooooooth!
太好了 有你這樣介紹 才知道有這樣的火車 謝謝😍
I think I saw this train on Shota no Sushi or other TV dramas and felt sad that I couldn’t try it myself. It’s still no chance for me as it’s pricey! Thanks Kuga for ‘taking us on board’ with you 😊
Thank you for the lovely ride. You would think that if they're going to use plates that size, they would put something on them. Not 'Social Distance Salad' and the main meal. Haha! 😅.
I really enjoyed joy these videos. Very relaxing
Thank you so much for taking me on this beautiful trip. Youre plate is so big because you are eating high quality 5 star. The way the present it, makes it tasted more beautifull. I hope you have great times there. I love orange juce also!
I thought this had been taken out of service and scrapped!
This is brilliant news!
Awesome job, keep posting ❤
That was quite an impressive meal, and quite apt for the decor.
“Scallop with social distanced salad…😂 !
You should consider doing Stand-Up comedy in Japan!
Social distance salad- so funny....I was reading and said out loud "social distancing salad, is that a Japanese thing" -then I looked at the food and started laughing hard and to comment - thanks for the laugh and these videos- I have some health issues and can no longer travel so watching these is almost as good
This was an awesome video! I still am amazed at how clean Japan is. It’s really cool to see that. Here in the USA there is garbage everywhere.
Yes Same here.
The more stars at the door, the bigger the dishes and the smaller the serving. Very easy to explain 🤣
You ARE cool...I like your gentle humour. And I'm glad you didn't press the Death Button 😆.
❤️ from 🇬🇧
Excellent presentation.
(I do.)
Wow thats ten times better than Sunrise
Dude pls make 100000 more of thesdse u are so funny the way u said CLP CLAP CLAP got me rolling down a hill 🤣
The style of the food is noval cuisine ,it's like an upper class French style of cooking and plating as there are around 6/7 courses and the portions are small so every course can be eaten without filling up in the first few courses .
Dinner looks like a snack to me .
19: 13 I would say that the 'pillow thing' is to be used as an armrest, for when the seat is a seat ( as you found it when you first entered the room). It is certainly of no use as a pillow!
Beautiful
Japan, God’s own country 🙏
Really great nostalgic ride! It’s expensive but totally worth it for people who enjoy trains
Thank you for making me travel with you , in such a classy and comfortable way, to Yuzuru Hanyu's city.
Incredibly interesting trip, thank you for sharing🤝
Lovely. I wish we had trains like this in Canada. I don't drink alcohol either.
Funny looking trains these are. I like how Japan has the best trains with all sorts of shapes and colours.
The plate is so big, because of trick - same food portion on big plate makes you eat more, because you starts to thing, that this portion is small and you have to eat more :)
Very old trick.
I enjoy your videos very much!
個室にしてもかなり高額ですね。😮😮
驚きました。お皿はスペースの関係上多く積めないので、同じ大きさのお皿を使うのだと思います。
I'm not cool enough for alcohol, either. Don't feel bad, Kuga.
Yeah but orange juice bleh have sparkling water. I bet it was an option with the dot of food plus swirls!!
